Ordinarily I don't write reviews but this was such A horrible experience I feel obligated. The host met us at the door and warned that they would not be taking food orders for 25 minutes because the kitchen was backed up. We were happy to wait and have a drink since they were able to seat us. We were ready to go with the flow. What a mistake! The cooks stood at the window seeming to argue over the tickets while all the waitresses stood in a line waiting for food. The counter was full of plates and we saw food sit there over 20 minutes. I watched my Caesar salad cook under the lights waiting for the crab cakes (the cc were the best thing we had) The dining room was loud, the place was dirty and food was terrible. The manager was rude and out of control. The waitresses were friendly but were rushed and constantly apologizing. Don't go!! read more

Just had dinner at the Foolish Frog. The staff was extremely friendly and the service was as advertised. Charity was our server for our party of 12. We sat down at 5pm, Charity greeted us and we had our drinks within 5 minutes. We had the frog legs, pickled chips, calamari, and stuffed oysters for appetizers. The oysters and pickled chips were incredible. Recommended entrees vary from the shrimp and crab quesadillas, half shell oysters, peel and eat shrimp, snapper special, and crab cakes. You really can't go wrong with any of the entrees. They have a decent selection of beers on tap as well. The highlight of the night came at the end of dinner as we held a competition with the ring toss on their deck. Adults had beers in hand and the kids were just as excited as tensions built as the ring continued to bounce off the hook until my five year old nephew Carter drilled it. Overall, a very good experience and would suggest this to all who pass. read more

Great place if you are headed to not from the beach/lighthouse. Good food and good service.

Great experience. We had Valentine's Day dinner and enjoyed the entire experience. Our waiter Thomas was very good. Make sure to try the Nawlens seafood. It was vey good. Will definitely be back. read more

Food was great! Family friendly and good portions. Best crab cakes I've ever had! Waitstaff was young but it was ok bc the food made up for it! read more

We went at lunch time, tried the special gator po boy and it was delicious. Also had the shrimp basket and crime brûlée. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. Nothing fancy but good food! read more

Lunch for 7 on a Saturday afternoon fast and fresh. Shrimp are local. A great non-pretentious local restaurant for a good price. Great service. read more

Like other people visiting....we came to the island to visit another restaurant. Unfortunately, that restaurant was overloaded with people, so like so many others, we thought we are here on the island, lets just try it. Bad mistake! On a holiday weekend, this small restaurant seemed overwhelmed by the amount of people there tonight. When we arrived the parking lot wasn't very full, so we thought we would get fairly quick service and some great seafood. Wrong again. Out of only a few tables and a small bar inside, the tables were full except two small ones pushed together. The hostess never offered to separate them and we were told there was one table left outside. We said that was fine, and walked ourselves over to the table that was both wet from the rain, and hadn't been cleaned. We moved ourselves over to other tables that were also wet, but clean. After our hostess appeared again after a few minutes, she wiped down our table and left us with a menu. The prices were fairly high, but we had already been to one other restaurant, and this our second so we just decided to stay. After being here for over half an hour all we had were watered down drinks. After we chased down the waitress, we were able to ask about the food. She said it would come out shortly, and after another 15 minutes, our food was delivered to the people beside us, and if we hadn't said something, they would have eaten it. Then the bugs came, the flys, the nats, it was horrible. We asked if we could move inside, inside we had crab legs and corn on the cob and steamed potatoes and a steak with mixed vegetables. There was still no silverware, nothing to crack crab legs with, they ran out of butter/or drawn butter. No napkins, no steak sauce offered, no refills on the watered down drinks(coke, tea). The corn on the cob looked 3 days old as did the potatoes and mixed vegetables. Everything for the sides was cold. Crab legs and steak were good, but you don't go to a restaurant just for meat or fish, the sides, the service, the utensils, the drinks are important. read more

A weak gumbo with stale rice; undercooked frogs legs with old sauce (surely the Foolish Frog should get these right), uninformed stoner waiter who had to be asked for everything including silverware. All that and a beer - $30. This is a bad version of a tourist trap. Not nice, good, tasty or authentic. Go to Gullah Grub across the street - which is all of that. read more

If it was possible to give this place no stars that would be too high of a rating. This place is a joke of a business and the manager really doesn't want your business. Go somewhere else that actually appreciates having you there. read more

You can't beat the service and the food is tremendous. Entertainment nights are well worth the experience. Highly recommend.

Really cozy atmosphere. A little pricey but the food was good. Our server Haden took good care of us and was very knowledgeable on the menu.

Was in the area for business and stopped by for lunch. I ended up ordering the fried flounder basket and it was excellent. It came out piping hot and perfectly cooked, the breeding was light and perfectly browned. The waitstaff and manager (owner?) were really nice and attentive. They have a nice outdoor porch with great marsh views. I'll be back again. read more

I've eaten here three times now under the new owners and have to say that on the whole I am very disappointed. The 1st time, the calamari was greasy and we just didn't care for the dipping sauce. I got shrimp and grits which was okay but the tails were left on so I had to put our hands in the food to remove them. I know this is the trend these days but everyone I know thoroughly dislikes having to get sauce all over their hands to remove shrimp tails or mollusk shells. My husband's whole fried fish was tasty but greasy. I don't think they had their oil hot enough to quickly cook the calamari and fish. Service was fair. They completely forgot us after we got our meals. The 2nd time, we ate outside to take advantage of the entertainment. We got the mahi tacos which were a good portion, quite good and had a flavorful sauce drizzled over them. The sauce is really what made them. We also got the pickled shrimp which were nothing special at all. They really needed some herbs to flavor it more. The service was good. Last night we went back outside, again for the wonderful entertainment - the Bullgrapes were playing. We got the fish tacos again since we really liked them the last time, but they really skimped on the sauce so they were not nearly as good. We also got the the fried okra which came with a wonderful hot sauce. Very good appetizer. Our friends got the calamari, which they said was good and the pickled shrimp which they did not like at all...no flavor. The service was absolutely TERRIBLE. We sat at the table with friends who were already there and had been served, but they completely ignored the two of us altogether...I guess we were invisible. We had to go INSIDE to get something to drink after over 40 minutes of being ignored (in spite of waving at the 3 waitresses and trying to stare them down to catch their eye even as they tended to the other couple we sat with). Eventually we blocked one of the waitresses to get water and a menu. It took forever to get these. We ate most of it and we left it during one song to dance and they took what was left of it! The prices are high, the food and service only marginal and very inconsistent. I know I will never get my husband back there for food again. Never. The friends we sat with agreed the restaurant food is a huge disappointment. We all really want a good place on the island to eat so we don't have to travel so far for a good meal. The location is wonderful, the entertainment has been great. But that's about all this place really has to offer. We'll go back for the music, but we'll eat elsewhere. read more

I had a stuffed flounder. It was a flounder cassarole. I found bits and pieces of flounder and have no idea what the other was. Very expensive $23 for what we got. Is the worst seafood I have had in Beaufort. Wine was $7 a glass beer was seven dollars.. Good price for a high end restaurant. This was not a high end restaurant. My wife had shrimp and grits. Very average. Very over priced for what you got. Will not go back. read more

My husband and I dined early on a Friday evening, about 5:30. We were greeted and seated quickly. Our server was friendly, courteous and knowledgable about the menu items. The food was excellent from the appetizer to the dessert (to-go since we were sufficiently stuffed from the meal). The appetizer was the Shrimp and crawfish Yum-Yum - shrimp & crawfish, tasso ham over a wonderful grits cake, & butter/tobasco sauce.....absolutely the highlight of the meal. Our two entrees were unique and combined different tastes that were definitely pleasing to our palates! The fresh green beans were perfectly cooked & seasoned as a side. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for the food and atmosphere! read more

Really good food, I had the Cuban. Really enjoyed it. Our server David did a fantastic job. We will definitely return.

The parking lot seemed full, so we decided to stop. The setting is lovely, if you sit on the deck. This would probably be an okay place to stop for drinks and maybe some nibbles, but I wouldn't go again for a meal. My daughter had some seafood chowder and fried okra, which she said was good. I do not eat wheat or seafood, so my choices were limited. I ordered the spinach salad, and asked for a few potato chips on the side. The spinach salad was not amazing. I think the bacon crumbles were from a jar, there were hardly any walnuts on it, ditto the blue cheese. I sent the potato chips back because they were stale. I didn't think you could screw up potato chips, but they did. Won't go back. read more

Fooled By the Frog! Lived in town for years, decided to take some family in who were in town. No steaks right now? Ok, I'll look at the menu. No oysters because it's not in season? Steamer and Dockside are doing just fine with them. Common sense should have told me to round everyone up and run, but I wanted to say we tried. We decided to start with 3 cups of seafood soup, two with what looked like strands of white fish at some point, mine was literally white broth. Fried pickles were terrible and sweet. Sweet tea made from the swamp out back. Enjoy my 30 bucks FF, you'll never see another dime. read more

I have tried this place three times. The first time the best thing they had was not a menu item, The Sweetgrass Angels were performing. A fantastic blend of three local voices. Service was far from quick or accurate. My second and third visits were much the same, nothing favorable to report. We called for reservations for 11, then when we arrived asked if they could accommodate 3 more. We were told we could have the table next to us as soon as it came available. Well THAT didn't happen because Thad Lane said loudly no that table is reserved for someone else. Oh Thad brought us 2 baskets of 3 bread sticks, a total of 6 breadsticks for 12 people. The M'grita were made with orange juice, we sent them back. The next ones tasted like sweet and sour. Thad told us the bartender was from Ohio so we should order something simple. One person told us Thad is the owner, another said he is just the manager. Things that make you go hummm. Our check was over $300 and it was nothing worth writing home about and certainly nothing worthy of another chance or for me to go back. read more

This is the worst restaurant I've ever been to, and it is not cheap! We have been to Fripp three times and we had the exact same experience a few years ago but decided to give it another chance. Vacationers and second chances, this is the only way this place stays in business. We were there tonight. Fully one third of their menu, they are out of. Service was extremely slow and when it FINALLY came it was nasty and cold. The place is not clean. Don't even dream of wanting your drink refreshed or wanting more ice. The food was gross and the service was terrible. Very nice view from the deck, if all you want is drinks, but that is the ONLY nice thing I can say about this place, and our experience was the EXACT same a few years ago. Lots of nice restaurants in Beaufort, no need to go to this dump. read more

After leaving Hunting Island, we sought a local seafood restaurant that was laid back and dog friendly. The Foolish Frog covered all those bases. Although the atmosphere was casual, the service was better than 5 star. The food was amazingly fresh and delicious, the deck provided cool breezes and scenic views... But it was our server, Tommy, that delivered an experience that far exceeded any expectations. As a party of 7 with 3 children and two dogs, we can appear a handful, yet Tommy handled us with great ease and patience. Sometimes the meal makes a lasting impression, other times it's the ambience. Well, this time it was Tommy that made the dining experience unforgettable. He mentioned he was an employee of the establishment for only a month, but it was not evident in how he treated us. Seriously, he even took the time to teach my child how to cut and eat her ribs. So kudos to you, Foolish Frog, for ensuring your great food and charming restaurant was supported with quality service. read more

Foolish Frog is a wonderful place to eat! We ate there on 7/2/17 at the end of the lunch service and service was wonderful. The food portions are large and super fresh. We ordered the Frogmore Pot (which is big enough for two to share, (but there is an extra charge of 3.50 for those who share), the Seafood platter, the fried pickles, and the island seafood supreme soup (a cream based soup like she crab was out of this world good). All Ingredients for all dishes were perfectly cooked and locally sourced. The wait staff are all very nice (especially Gloria our waitress. Love the personality and the hair by the way! This made our visit more enjoyable.) This restaurant has a bar/pub feel kinda place, but nice none the less. Dinner service begins around 5pm, but the lunch menu portions are enough to carry you thru the afternoon. There is seating both inside and outside. I think we have found our new restaurant when we visit Beaufort. This place for our taste, surpasses other area seafood restaurants (i.e. Johnson Tavern) by a mile! read more

Hands down, the best local restaurant we've tried in the 8 months LI, SHI, Frogmore, Harbour Island, Hunting Island, etc . Food is fresh, HOT(*!*!*- HOORAY:) and flavors are wonderful. Place is clean, upbeat, and wait service is excellent. We have gone 4 times, taken guests , etc.. and have always gotten a very good meal. LOVED our first Tuesday night jam session out on the deck this past week . The atmosphere was fun, and the guys declared the local steaming oyster buckets some of the best they've EVER had . Our local favorite! Moved from the nation's capital ,have lived all over - and after soooo many (too, too many) disappointing meals out - we are very grateful to have this gem close by. THANK YOU Foolish Frog for delivering !! This is what a meal out should look like. Try it, and you will be hooked. (Only worry is , they have limited seating and we want to be able to get a table) It IS out of the way.... read more

My husband and I recently drove from the Washington DC area to Florida and decided to get away from Rt 95 for the night. The Foolish Frog was right across the street from the hotel we booked and had good reviews so we decided to have dinner there. We got there a little before 8:00 pm. The hostess greeted us immediately and started for a table on the far side of the busy restaurant. There was an attractive patio dining area right by the door that had several empty tables. I asked if we could sit there. She said "sorry those tables are for people who made a reservation" and proceed on to the table right next to the very busy kitchen. I spent the next 45 minutes sitting in the booth watching the woman who must have been the head waitress handle the business of receiving food through the window from the kitchen and getting it to the customers. She was amazingly efficient. Our food came quickly, the waitress was nice, the food was okay. When we left I noticed that about half the tables on the patio were empty and there was nice live music playing. It just wasn't the experience I was hoping for. After driving all day, we would have been more than happy to sit at the bar and have a drink while waiting for a patio table. Instead of having a lovely night out, we had a quick bite in a hectic setting. read more
