Let me start by saying that Antonio, the Director of Operations, is absolutely amazing. We stopped…read moreby Nunzio simply to ask a few questions about hosting our rehearsal dinner there, and he immediately came over to greet us, answered every question we had (and more), and even took the time to show us the room (which is beautiful). From that first visit, he has been incredibly responsive to every email and question, always going above and beyond to make sure our rehearsal dinner will be truly special. His kindness, professionalism, and genuine care have made this entire process so easy and enjoyable. If you're looking for authentic Italian food/drinks and an atmosphere filled with people who truly care about creating a memorable experience, this is the place to go. We'll be hosting our rehearsal dinner here in August, and Nunzio will absolutely be a must-visit every time we visit Hilton Head. I truly can't say enough wonderful things about Nunzio, Antonio, and the entire staff. We are so grateful for everything they've done to make this such a special experience for us!

Turns out we made a friend, Chef Nunzio himself. We were there early in the day which allowed us to enjoy 20+ minutes visiting with and speaking with Chef Nunzio. My career was in restaurants as well and we had great conversations about food, preparations and different restaurant. Chef took time to make my wife, the Mother of our children feel very special, what a gentleman. Thank you Chef for our fantastic appetizer you prepared for us, that was special indeed. The Scallop Rigatoni Mezza entree was delicious. We've never been disappointed when dining at Nunzio's and this day was absolutely above in all regards. Ah, and that appetizer I took home for "dessert" was just as amazing at home as in the restaurant. Thanks Chef Nunzio and staff, thank you very much. You made Sharon's Mother's Day over the top!!! Update (2 weeks later): We came back one last time before…read moreheading home, and somehow it was just as good--if not better. The staff continues to impress--attentive, warm, and they actually remembered us, which made the experience feel even more special. We even saw the young gentleman from Croatia again who had taken care of us on a previous visit--he was just as pleasant and even stopped by our table to say hello, which was such a nice touch. We dined later in the evening this time, and it was really special to see the staff, managers, and I believe even the owner all still there together. It felt less like coworkers and more like a family--which says a lot about a place. Food-wise, everything held up to our first visit (which is rare!). I couldn't resist and ordered the beef bourguignon again--still absolutely incredible. We also had escargot (note: it comes with béchamel unless you ask otherwise), and that amazing cassoulet loaded with different meats from the evening--it was spectacular. Safe to say this place is officially our favorite on the island... and yes, I'm still tempted to keep it a secret .

Lots on the menu, but the Oscar goes to Travel Tip: Order SOUPE A L'OIGabNON. Yes, Russell Crowe should have been nominated and won the Oscar this year - Perhaps, the younger generation is ill-informed on WWIi. Chez Georges requires a designer's update. Always, the service is best in Hilton Head. Always, the kitchen is among best in Hilton Head.

The Chilean sea bass was delicious. I dined with many Italian Americans--everyone was happy with sauce, meatballs, eggplant preparation, etc. The decor is dark and intimate and I love it all!!

I was excited to try Piatti after seeing pretty good reviews. We finally got around to trying it…read moreout this week. I am not sure if we just caught them on a bad night, but overall the food was "meh". We arrived around 6 and were seated immediately. We started with a bottle of wine and they brought bread and garlic butter. The bread was nice and crusty and garlic butter was very good. I ordered the pear & gargonzola salad, which is normally one of my favorites. Unfortunately the baby mixed greens were not very fresh, when I was about halfway through I noticed browned leaves on my plate, which was not very appealing. Hubby ordered a ceaser salad and his lettuce looked much fresher and more appetizing than my salad. My next disappointment was when I wanted to order the Rotola di Spinaci. Our server said it was not avaliable. :-( I was in the mood for something with red sauce and there really weren't many options that sounded appealing to me since I dont eat beef or pork. The only other option I saw was eggplant parm, so I ordered that. Unfortunately the eggplant parm fell short for me. The eggplant was bland and tasted unseasoned. The homemade marinara was a little disappointing as well in that it wasn't a rich flavorful sauce. I would definitely not order this dish again here. My hubby ordered one of the specials - some sort of chicken with broccoli & green beans and pasta with a creamy white sauce. Hubs was pleased with his meal. Overall, the service was good, but not outstanding. I told my hubby after we finished that they probably just don't specialize in southern Italian dishes (with red sauce) because so many of the menu options were creamy or cheesy or butter/white wine sauce. If we decide to give them another try, I'd definitely stick to one of the white sauce options.
