I'm a vegetarian and I went for a friend's party and was not surprised to find no vegetarian options. No problem. I have cobbled together a meal of sides before. But honestly, these sides were super disappointing. The fried okra was unseasoned, doughy, and there were only three balls in the cup, and the rest was fried batter; I cannot begin to explain how small this portion was and how little okra there was. The fries were okay. The seasoned vegetables were decent but again a very small potion for $3.99. My seafood loving friends had far more compliments for the seafood, especially the grilled salmon. So if you are coming for the seafood, I think you could still have a good meal. But vegetarian or not, I would pass on most of the sides. read more

I give this a 3 star for 2 specific reasons. First being that the food was amazing! My friend and I both had the Gilligan's Crabby Patty and it was amazing. I also tried the Oysters Rockefeller for the first time and I really liked the bread that came with it. Secondly, the location being near the water and having awesome artwork on the walls was definitely a treat! I would have given this a five star if our server, Nikki, would have been more attentive. She wasn't very interested in our table, she never came back to check on us and ask how our food was. She also didn't pay much attention to our refills. And lastly, I myself am a server, you never ask someone how much change they want back or if they're going to leave a tip. Telling my friend that I left a tip and asking how much she was going to leave, was super unprofessional. And to act snotty after my friend said she wanted her change back after giving her a $100 bill on a $50 dollar order was not acceptable. read more

Our server, Nisha, was the highlight of the meal! She's a proud momma of 3, got our order 100% correct, followed up well, gave us a sample of she crab soup (which we then ordered a full bowl of), ray of sunshine, and made us feel so welcome to the area. She works Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Nisha is the BEST server I have ever seen and had. We even got hugs at the end of the meal! Food and the view were absolutely perfect. We ordered hush puppies, she crab soup, grouper fingers, calamari, dirty martinis, the banana alcoholic milkshake, fish and chips, honey blackened salmon, side of sausage, and a salad with salmon. Hush puppies were so good, we ordered two of them. Sweet, crunchy, perfectly fried, not dense at all. All the fried fish was tender and battered wonderfully. Fries with them were fluffy, crunchy, and well-seasoned. Honey blackened salmon was good portion, tender, glazed wonderfully, came with delicious red rice and fried okra. Salad was huge and looked delicious as well. The bartender nailed the drinks at our table and even came by to ask specifically how the drink wanted to be made. The blackened salmon ( wild caught ) was delicious and the best tasting salmon I have ever had; I ordered it without the honey. It had the right amount of seasoning and was cooked perfectly, tender. The server said it tastes really good with the honey too. The grilled asparagus was cooked well and flavorful. The red rice was really good too -- it had sausage and tomato, I guess. Did online order. Seemed slow. Walked in and was not greeted. Man behind the counter too busy on his phone. When I was handed my order I asked was this everything he said yes. Get all the way back home to find I didn't get any of my 30 dollar crab I had ordered for my wife's birthday. Called the restaurant to see what happened. Was told to come back and they will put a discount down for my troubles. Drive all the way back. Give the piece of paper that comes with my order and phone number. Notice the same brown bag that the plastic bag was on top of. She hands it to me saying she sorry for the mix up. Didn't offer to remake them or warm them up. Then the woman says she would text a discount to my number. I still have not received anything from them. Also come to find out my wife woke up sick in the middle of the night after eating it. We're from Georgia on vacation for the weekend. I searched many different restaurants and this one popped up. It had everything on the menu that my family members wanted. We ordered appetizers which was on the chefs menu and it was a triple dip. It had these weird chips and the 3 dips was shrimp with cream cheese? Artichoke dip with crab meat which was my personal favorite and pimiento cheese dip. Overall the food didn't have much flavor and I ordered the crabby burger which was a piece of crab cake on top of a burger. The burger was very well cooked so it was dry the crab meat was the only thing I ate from the burger. I give this place overall a 2 because of the food. The service was nice and friendly. Tony and I stopped in at Gilligan's Seafood Restaurant in Beaufort, SC. The service was really good and the food was amazing!! Tony and I ordered the Shellfish Steam Pot. It was so great, we had Snow Crab Legs, Dungeness Crab, Shrimp, Potatoes, Smoked Sausage and Corn on the Cob. Tony had a couple of Budweiser from the bar and I had a sweet tea. I asked if I could try for the first time in 58 years a Fried Oyster and a Raw Oyster. The manager agreed and brought it to me himself. This was so nice. The Deep Fried Oyster reminded me of a Chicken Liver, not bad at all. The raw Oyster I added Salt, Pepper and hot sauce. I ate it! It wasn't as slimey as I thought it would be, once you get passed the sea water taste, not bad. Our meal was wonderful, $60 included $7 tip and taxes. We came here after years of not being in- now we know we didn't miss anything and we know why the parking lot is always empty.... We were one of three tables and it was fairly early (before 5 on Monday). The waitress seemed to be in a hurry despite not having any tables. We asked about hush puppies, one of the reasons we came, and she said we'll get them once we order. When I ordered my salad I asked about dressing and the lemon vinaigrette to which the waitress said I wouldn't recommend it. I've never heard a waitress dissuade someone from getting something before. Well we waited a really long time, another table that came after us for hush puppies and we still didn't. We got our food including my salad which should have come out first and when we asked about the hush puppies, she said they weren't ready and then came back and said here I managed to grab some for you - they were barely room temp - who are you kidding?! My husband's shrimp and grits were rubbery and he couldn't even eat the shrimp. I got crab cakes and they were ok. The dressing was fine too, I'm not sure what her deal was on that. She never came back until we done eating and we just wanted our check. Our stomachs hurt (rumbling already!!!) and we just wanted to get home before they were really bad. We were very disappointed as we used to love going here when our kids were younger and loved the fish tanks. I have been to many a fine restaurant where I live in Portland (and neighboring Seattle), yet never have I been to a restaurant as fine in so many ways as this one. We arrived at Gilligan's in rough shape. The previous day, we had travelled from one end of the US to the other. My daughter was graduating from the Marines, the base of which is close by Gilligan's. Our first day was hijacked upon learning that a taxi would cost close to $200 a day, and wouldn't even drop us off in time for the first event of the following day. Defeated, hot, and hungry we stumbled into Gilligan's. We were greeted by the most charming waitress and immediately seated. Brittany patiently explained everything on the menu to my elderly mother. Brittany continued to exude the utmost southern hospitality throughout the meal, including some much needed comic relief. The view from the large windows was magnificent. Right next to our table, we enjoyed an aquarium with live fish. For two seasoned seafood connoisseurs and one newbie fish lover, the food did not disappoint. Our starter of steamed oysters was succulent and not a bit over cooked. We were new to the complimentary hush puppies yet gobbled them up as if they were a staple. My mother and younger daughter ordered fried fish, both devoured in much the same fashion. Myself, a newfound shrimp and grits fan, was awed over their version of this signature southern dish. Of course we didn't pass up the offers of Kentucky bourbon pecan and key lime pies. They were the best we'd ever had. As for the taxi issue? The waitress told the manager our problem. The manager Johanna, herself part of a Marines family, promptly came to our table. We were on the verge of tears when Johanna offered to bring us not only to my daughter's Marines graduation, but also to liberty ceremony and even back to the airport if need be. Folks, this kind woman answered my call the next morning at the precious hour of 2am!! She picked us up around 5am, and repeated this the following day. Words can never express our gratitude. This restaurant has never been on our radar. Every time we drove past it, the restaurant parking lot was mostly empty, so we assumed it was closed. I also found out that Gilligan's is actually part of a mini chain with other locations located North of Beaufort.. Three stars reflect the menu and the food. The extra star was for the exceptional service we received. Unfortunately, I never got our server's name, but she was truly outstanding. Our group consisted of residents from an assisted living facility, who had both mobility and cognitive issues. The server's patience, professionalism, and positive energy made for a seamless experience. She didn't even wince when we told her that there would be multiple checks involved. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Entrees ordered included fried shrimp, fried flounder, chicken strips, calamari, shrimp and sausage gumbo, a crab cake and shrimp tacos with a pineapple salsa. We were served several baskets of hush puppies as we waited for our meals. Now these were the super crunchy light and sweet nuggets that I remember during my numerous childhood road-trips from Chicago to Florida as we stopped at the various Southern style eateries along the way. Delicious. Only two members of our party ordered an appetizer. Both opted for the cup of the she crab soup. Often times, this soup will yield mostly just a creamy base with tiny shreds of the crustacean, but this was chock full of crab meat. A touch of freshly ground pepper and a tiny bit of sherry could have elevated this soup to another level, but what was served was perfectly acceptable. The entrees arrived hot (often times an anomaly these days), The decor of the restaurant was pretty minimalistic. Lots of windows and wood with some tropical decor thrown in at the bar. Nothing that really says hey, let's have another refreshment and stay awhile. Gilligan's actually sits on a prime piece of real estate overlooking the small creeks and marshes of Beaufort with expansive views of the skies beyond. This place could really become a go to restaurant if it was updated and if it utilized its prime location to offer an outdoor space where folks could gather and even dance to some music from local musicians. I won't be running back that soon to Gilligan's but I won't be running away either. read more
