I think I went there once like 15 years ago and it was fine). My mom made the appointment and specified that we wanted 2 female massage therapists. They obliged. A scheduling conflict came up so we rescheduled the appointments. The employee who took the reservation asked my mom "Do you want the same set up with 2 female therapists?" My mom confirmed and we showed up at the specified time. My mom's therapist brought her into the treatment room while I answered intake questions. When my therapist appeared, he was a man. I specified that we had requested female therapists. An employee told me they did not have any other female therapists available. I understand that human error occurs and I did not make a big deal about it but it was a disappointment to say the least. I killed time while my mom received her massage and we left. I figured I would reschedule for another time. About an hour later I received a voicemail from Massage Envy, I assumed they were calling to apologize for their screw up and potentially offer me compensatory services (a simple apology would have been appreciated), instead someone whom I assume was a manager demanded that I call back with my credit card number so I could be charged for a service that I did not receive. She claimed it counted as a "cancellation" and that the therapist would need to be paid. I whole heartedly agree that the therapist should be paid for showing up (it certainly was not his fault that the person who reserved our spot fumbled so royally), but I am not the person paying him. I almost called back just to laugh at this awe inspiring level of audacity. In the past when I have made reservations for a massage (literally anywhere else) even before I specify the gender of the therapist, they always ask "Is a male therapist okay?" If that's who is available. I always say "no" and they either arrange it so a woman is available OR they tell me they don't have availability for the day and time I am asking and I schedule accordingly. It's really not that hard. What an awful business completely devoid of customer service. I would steer clear of Massage Envy in the future. There are a lot of very reasonable places out there, so it's far from the only game in town.

Overall, I was not too happy that my masseuse left the room three times (although one time was to bring the hot stones) to attend to walk-ins or take care of some logistics in the front. But she made up for it by working a few minutes after the timer. I would say if you want a good deep tissue where they grind your bones a bit, this is for you. Instead of leaving relaxed, I left tense and uncomfortable. What made the experience even worse was the checkout process. This massage was a birthday gift from my friend and had already been fully paid for in advance. Despite that, I was initially told I owed the full balance. After clarifying that it had already been paid, I was then asked about gratuity, which my friend had also already authorized. The interaction became awkward enough that I ended up putting an additional charge on my own card just to get out of the situation. Any relaxation I might have felt was completely erased at checkout. Overall it was a nice experience and I would have given it 5 starts, but below is my honest feedback and if these things were fixed I would have given it 5 stars: I was lead to a women's locker / bathroom where I was given a bathrobe (a little too small for me- I found out later there were different sizes and could have requested a larger size). It was folded strangely in the locker and at first sight I wasn't sure if it was used. I secured my things and we were lead to a couples room. We lay on the tables and had an "80 minute" massage which they didn't realize (thought it for 60 mins) so after they checked , it was more like 70 minutes total. I'm usually quiet during my massage and would have liked my masseuse to ask for more feedback (harder/softer/ how does it feel?) My boyfriend was very happy with his masseuse. (Her name was Terry). I was confused at the end of mine when my masseuse applied cream all over my face and gently rubbed it in for quite a few minutes . Wasn't sure if I was getting a facial as well, never had that done before. Would have preferred she could have washed her hands and done a scalp massage instead. When done I went back to the locker room and took a shower in the oversized shower which had complimentary shampoo conditioner and body wash. They brought me a bath mat and a small towel. I would have liked a changing room as there was a small padded bench in the room but there were two other ladies in there so I changed in the toilet stall. I know space is limited but even another curtain just outside the shower area to separate it from the rest of the room would be nice for modesty reasons. Walking out they were very sweet and let me take photos to share. Physically I felt very relaxed and feeling good. We also spent a few minutes in the sauna with a cup of cold water they provided before showering.
