the massage was okay but they didn't do my hands, or face, or anything like they used to. then at the end they charge for using your card which I am okay with but then proceeded to inform me that it is a 30% tip minimum before I could even get my wallet out. I was planning on giving that anyways, but requiring a certain amount for a tip leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. That's not a tip, that's part of the price, so don't sell the massages at 45 when they are a required 60. I'll go to another one instead. read more

After paying for two 90\-minute massages, I left what I believed to be an appropriate tip, and was then informed that there is a **mandatory $20 minimum tip** that had not been disclosed beforehand\. I was asked to adjust the gratuity, which made the checkout experience uncomfortable\. If a minimum gratuity is required, it should be clearly stated in advance or included in the service pricing\. I think so many of these reviews are entitled and give colonial vibes. You're paying less than $100 for an hour of hard physical labor on your naked body and you're upset that you have to tip more than $15? Also, yes, there is a language barrier, but the way that you interact with people to begin with matters. The massage is here are cheap and thorough, and works out your whole body. I've had $50 massages, $100, $200, $300... And I keep coming back here because it's such a deal. The place is clean, the massage is good, and there are no frills. You get exactly what you pay for, and if you have super specific needs, you need to be paying more to go to a specialist. To go for a discount massage with multiple demands and special requests is asinine. It's also asinine and classless to expect to tip less than $20 for something of this nature. If you can't afford to spend at least $100 on a service like this, you shouldn't be getting it. It's 2025. Get a massage gun off of Amazon if you want to be cheap. read more

This is a very clean, legitimate spa. I always try to get the same massage therapist, (Yu Yu). I had scoliosis growing up, and I work on my feet sometimes up to 14-16 hours a day. It takes a toll on my back, neck, and shoulders. Every time I get a massage from Yu Yu, I feel completely different. All the pain, pressure on my joints, all of it, gone. I love this spa. read more

Disappointing Experience, Unprofessional Staff: I've been a loyal customer of this spa since its opening and have always recommended it to friends and family. Over the years, I've had several favorite masseuses, but unfortunately, many have left. The front desk staff has changed as well, and the professionalism has drastically declined, particularly with newer employees. On my visit on 4/8/25 around 1 p.m., I was greeted by Anna at the front desk (short hair). I explained to her, as I always do, what I needed for my 90-minute session: a female masseuse, focus on my glutes and inner thighs (with palm massage, not fingers), and 20 minutes of foot massage at the end. In the past, the front desk staff always clarified this for me, but Anna didn't seem to do that. When I was escorted to the room, Lucy (the masseuse) came out with another customer and another masseuse. I couldn't understand the language they were speaking, so I wasn't sure if my requests were communicated properly. Lucy had a very unprofessional attitude--she rolled her eyes and made a sarcastic sound when I asked if she was informed about my preferences. This made me uncomfortable right from the start. To make matters worse, Lucy started the massage in a way that caused me significant pain, contrary to what I had asked for. I had to stop after less than 10 minutes and asked for Anna. I explained that I wanted to switch to a male masseuse because Lucy's technique was painful and uncomfortable. Once again, Lucy and Anna giggled and exchanged looks--very unprofessional and off-putting. David, the male masseuse who came in, didn't seem to have received the correct information either. I had to repeatedly ask him to adjust his technique to use his palms instead of fingers. He seemed frustrated, sighing and huffing throughout the session. However, his technique was definitely better than Lucy's, and I eventually completed the session. At checkout, I noticed David had a disgusted look on his face, which was strange given I was tipping him and paying the full amount. I gave him a $20 tip and paid Anna. Unlike the previous front desk staff member, who would ask about the massage or say thank you, Anna ignored, looking down and acting busy until it was time to take payment, after which she quickly returned to looking down. When I asked Anna for the names of the masseuses in the end, she was again dismissive, blinking rapidly and answering with an attitude. I am deeply disappointed in the decline of service and professionalism at this spa. Has the owner changed? Are staff members being properly monitored for their behavior? It feels like no one is paying attention to the quality of service anymore. I'm not sure I'll be coming back, and I'll no longer recommend this place to others like I once did. I've gotten a total of 2, maybe 3 massages in my life, counting my experience here. I decided to treat myself after having a couple rough weeks and found this place not too far. I didn't make an appointment but showed up midweek right when they opened. I asked for an hour long massage and they were able to accommodate. The "rooms" itself aren't fully private, they are little alcoves in a long hallway partitioned off only with curtains. There was a few occasions where another guest would be loudly chatting away that I found quite disruptive. The masseuses would 'shush' them but still, it takes away from the experience. My masseuse was very good but didn't have the best bedside manners. She entered the curtain without a sound (didn't even say hello!) and after moving some of my belongings got to work. Umm unfortunately I was not very impressed with my massage, came in from a recommendation but for me it was just ok and I've had many much better... we each received 60min massages for $40 each, I personally only wanted a top body / back massage and the lady I noticed felt lost since it seems she only knew how to perform her hour massage as entire body and did not know how to allocate a back massage for 60min... seems silly I know, but she was attending to places I DID NOT have knots and ignoring places where she clearly felt the knots in my back and neck! Receptionist is deceptive to get an appointment with you just to get you in the door. I requested 90 minutes but masseuse finished after just 60 minutes. I wanted a full 90 minutes. My body was not satisfied after just 60 minutes. I asked why it's so fast and she just said next time. I told them I scheduled a 90 minute appointment and she said they were too busy. She did not tell me on the phone that there is only 60 minute slots available. So, I made my 90 minute appointment. She didn't do her job as a receptionist on the phone confirming the time and length of massage, or getting my information for contact. Then when I asked the receptionist why I didn't get my 90 minutes she told me I requested a 60 minute massage. She lied because it's a fact I asked for a 90 minutes. Never coming back to this place! One bad experience is enough. The massage was not up to par today. I've been here 4 other times. The first I gave 20% and they ask for more saying this isn't a restaurant. Hustling me. I checked and the total tip (20%) for the service came to a little over $8 each. So I went through my wallet (as they very deeply watched me) and produced $16, $8 each. Once I gave them their optional tip which I don't have to give, one of the therapists leaned and said something to the receptionist. The receptionist then said oh no sorry you need to give $10 that's the minimum tip, and with that she produced a poorly printed paper in a frame outlining the 'policy' (of which the term I use very loosely) like WTF you're EXPECTING A TIP? Sorry that's not how it works. I explained they both got $8 and that's 20% which she didn't want to hear. I left without succumbing to their entirely rude and frankly ridiculous request for more tip money. Note to business owner: Tips are not required and are only provided out of the kindness of your customers heart. (ZERO STARS) First, I have been coming here for years and have never had an issue- until recently- and I will absolutely not be going back. After a two hour massage (one hour foot and one hour full body) to get ready for a marathon, I handed my masseuse a respectable 20% tip. I had specifically gone because I had been having tendon pain after doing my long runs in training for the marathon and was expecting to come out feeling relaxed. After I handed him the tip, the receptionist- LISA- then proceeded to admonish me for my allegedly sub-par tip and pointed to a sign stating that they, in essence, demanded more of a tip for the services I had received. I told the receptionist that I would not be bullied into tipping someone more for what I felt was a sub-par service and that I felt her comments were completely inappropriate and rude and she could post whatever sign she wanted but by law you cannot coerce a tip from someone. When I asked for her name, she initially did not respond. I had to ask her several times- after I mentioned to her that I knew she was not the owner and had been going there for years, she finally stated her name. I indicated that I had never had any issues with whom I believe to be the owner/receptionist (an older Asian lady). I told her I would not be returning, as this was not the way one conducts business and there is no law requiring a minimum tip-- that it was merely a suggestion. She did not seem to be listening as the only thing she responded was that I should sign the receipt-- multiple times. As if I would have left without signing it. (?). Silly me- I thought the purpose of getting a massage was to relax- not be instigated by a massage mill parlor receptionist. If you would like to charge people more, then that is your prerogative - but this is the USA (NY mind you!)- where I am free to tip you (or not) for services deemed satisfactory (or not). Through the years New Garden Spa has lost its appeal in my eyes. The new management (taken over a couple of years ago) just isn't the same. The last time I went with my friend, I called ahead and requested a male and female masseuse for the two of us. We weren't told that there were two male masseuses till AFTER our feet were soaking. At that point, someone came up to us and said, 'sorry, only male masseuses now' and after our massages were over, the manager said, 'how was the massages? Sorry, we only had men left'. This time I went in with my husband and called ahead to request a male, anyone but Thomas, and a female. I had Thomas the last time and to say my massage was painful, it would be an understatement. So as I sat down soaking my feet, who do I see ... yup, Thomas. I know I should have stopped the massage when I saw him but I gave him the benefit and told him to massage lightly because it hurt the last time he gave me a foot massage. Well shame on me cuz I definitely regretted not just getting up and leaving. I really don't know if he didn't understand 'massage lightly' because whenever I pulled my foot back or flinch due to the pain ... he rubbed my foot, said sorry and then kept going until I flinched or pulled my foot back again. When I was asked by the manager at the door how it went, I told her that Thomas needs to listen to the client and when someone pulls their foot back and flinches in pain .. it means he's massaging too hard. I had a rough Thanksgiving weekend driving back from Texas and couldn't get the knots out of my back with stretching. Read the reviews and was very pleased with the strength of the massage. I had so many knots along my shoulder blade and really needed someone to rub it out. I admit it was a little painful at times, but I needed that level of strength. This place is ridiculous. I wish I could leave a 0 star review. They have the nerve to post a sign by their desk complaining about the tips they receive. Tips are optional and by choice of the consumer for exceptional service. Customers are not responsible to pay your employees while you take all the profits for yourself. I pride myself on doing the right thing on waiters, barbers, nail salon, etc. I usually lookup via internet what is the recommended tip for the type of business. For a massage it recommended 15 to 20 percent. The bill was $70 each for my wife and I so I gave them $30 tip $15 each, which is more than 20 percent. The girl behind the counter had the nerves to tell me it's a minimum of $20 each, for the service. I was shocked. Never been so insulted. The only thing I regretted not doing is taking my tip and leaving since I never plan to ever return. I still gave them their $30 tip and told them it's not right to hustle people out of there hard earn money. I left there very angry. The massage wasn't even all that great. Got the 60 minute full body massage and not even 24 hours later my back feels like it's bruised and sore all over. I had a guy do my massage and he was very very rough the entire time, to the point where i was squirming and never felt truly relaxed (the whole point of getting a massage!). Not only that but about 4 hours after I got the massage I had a splitting headache that would not go away and I think it's because of the rough neck massage the man gave me.
