As I have become a serious runner over the past year, I've been investing money and time in finding the perfect running gears. I've been to Niketown and Super Runner's Shop but the associates there haven't been as helpful as the ones at this store. The great thing about this place is that they do the foot measurements for you with this computerized software, which helps you pick out the right sneakers. It's almost like taking an X-ray of your feet. They have a huge selection of sneakers and they're reasonably priced. The associate I spoke to knew a lot about running injuries so he was really helpful in making sure I get the right fit. I recommend this place for all pro and amateur runners. read more

Horrible experience here. This place does not know what it means to have proper customer service. Upon entering the store, I was not greeted. After walking around for a couple minutes to find what shoe I wanted, I still was not greeted or asked if I needed anything. I had to go search one employee down and ask them to pull a shoe size for me. She gave me an attitude and said "hold on a second, I'll get it". Ten minutes later, still no shoe. Others were waiting as well. There were 4 employees working that day and 2 were standing by the front door chatting away about their personal lives, while 1 was trying to man the register and the other was running back and forth to get sneakers from the back. When the shoe finally came out (20 min later), I opened the box and immediately saw that there was an ink mark and glue mark on the shoe. I tried to find an associate to see if there was an alternative one that was without any markings, but again, had to go hunt someone down, and wait an additional 15 min. At that point, I gave up, put the shoe down and walked out. I then walked 2 doors down to the Foot Action and had the opposite experience-- was in and out of that store in 5 min with the shoe I wanted and exceptional customer service. A friend of mine had a similar experience at this very same store. Some other lady in the store had been waiting there for 20+ min as well while they scrambled around to find a shoe she ordered and had delivered to the store. They told her they lost the shipment and she had to reorder, or they'll have to refund her. DEAR MANAGER - TRAIN YOUR STAFF APPROPRIATELY and get your sh*t together. Had a fantastic experience here. My partner and I came in to take a look, after a long day of walking in the city (one of many) left me with sore ankles and blisters on the arch of my foot. We both worked with the manager of the store--Mike, I believe--who is basically a superstar. He assessed both of us and was a professional and polite as could be. There was no pressure whatsoever, and I was treated with tremendous respect. I will take a moment to point out that I am a plus-size girl, and staff in these types of stores can be rather dismissive of folks my size. This was in NO way the case with Mike, who was absolutely fair and clearly explained the reason behind my sore ankles (flat feet, a family trait). At this point, he had me try on several pairs of sneakers, and to my delight, recommended the least expensive in the bunch! My partner was next, and got the same excellent treatment. High arches, totally different needs, great recommendations. In the end, we both made our purchases, and six months later, can both say there has been a tremendous shift in comfort and exercise routine. My ankles are supported and I don't get any of the pain I previously had--making me exercise with much more frequency! I really like this place as I'm always greeted by a cheerful, helpful staff and the running gear is definitely more cheaper than other stores in the area. The numerous accessories I've purchased have been a fuel belt for $30, Timex basic running watch (no GPS) but has an 3 alarm settings, timer, chronograph, start/ split settings and indiglo ($30) and Adidas running climacool running shorts for $25. I wish they had more Brooks running apparel but they're definitely geared towards adidas, under armour and obviously Nike. There's always great deals here and I check in on a monthly basis for new stuff. read more

After two unsuccessful attempts to find running shoes that fit me correctly at the Jack Rabbit store up the block, I decided to give RUN a try. A friend of mine who is a serious runner and a running coach suggested I go see one of managers at RUN named Mike. Mike gave me more insight into my particular running issues than any other salesperson to date- which I really appreciated. He was patient and laid back. I've been on a couple of runs with the shoes he recommended and I'm pretty happy with them. I also found a Timex Ironman watch on sale for a good price. Best customer service I've seen in a shoe store. I had a very negative experience at the Foot Locker on W 34th by Broadway and came here on recommendation. The staff here was unusually friendly (in a good way), and could explain the differences between shoes in a much greater level of detail. They also actually have a greater selection of wide sizes, despite being a smaller store. Finally, and most importantly, my sales rep happily said I was better off going to a Nike or New Balance store for better selection! Even after they knew they weren't getting a sale they continued to answer all of my questions patiently. I only give a 4 star because it is, as they suggested to me, for variety you're better off going directly to the Nike and New Balance stores in the 20s in Manhattan. I could still easily see myself coming back here as a starting point for any shoe purchase, though. read more

As the title suggest, the store is geared towards all things running. They have most types of running shoes (barefoot, hiking, casual, track etc) and the store manager is really friendly. Very helpful when i was making a return and were genuinely answering questions about the shoes i was going to buy. I had a great experience at this location because of the excellent customer service. At first, no one approached me, but perhaps they were giving me a chance to check things out on my own -- I did come in when they were busier. Once I determined what I wanted to look at, the staff member who helped me was knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. We did the "test" with the mat (where you place your feet on the mat and their computer displays where your pressure points are, arch is, etc.) and it didn't seem too accurate, but he took a look at my feet and gait and gave me some suggestions -- highlighting things I've noticed myself in the past (and helping to explain something I was unsure of). He was also patient. They have a wide range of running shoes and while they didn't have my size for my preferred shoe in the store, a second staff member helped me look online to see if it was on footlocker.com. I ended up getting another shoe (which was on sale) because footlocker.com also didn't have my 1st pick, but overall this was a great experience. The staff member helping me even brought up an additional color in my size that they didn't have on display (because they only had larger sizes left in that color) and that was the one I ended up getting! I'd definitely recommend this location to someone. Only downside is I wish selection (esp. size) was greater and there were cheaper prices -- but that's my wish for most stores! read more

Given the choice, I would make all my purchases online from the convenience of my own home but after ordering and sending back 5 pairs of sneakers that didn't fit properly, I decided to go to an actual store so I could try on a pair before purchasing. After I explained to the sales associate that I wanted something primarily for running and cardio related activities, he asked me to run on a treadmill for a minute or so while a camera recorded the feet motion. The recording was played in slow motion and the sales associate made a few recommendations based on his analysis. He was extremely knowledgeable and explained what kind of shoes would be appropriate for my feet and running style. I learned a lot about running and injuries and even picked up a few running tips! I tried out a ton of shoes in different styles and sizes until I was happy with my selection. I never once felt rushed or pressured into buying a certain shoe. I've now been running in my Mizuno Wave Riders for 2 months and am very pleased with my purchase. read more
