    Perfecto M.

Foothill Feed & Mercantile is great place for your small chicken farm, ranch, dog and cat food, etc. If you're in need of chicks to raise for eggs or meat they have some here for sale. When we came in here there was a chicken running around. Apparently, this particular chicken had a concussion and they were nursing is back to health. Really great place. They have everything from dog toys, cat toys, dog and cat food, also chicken feed, water feeders, feed for horse, etc. We went in there to trade in our propane tank. They also have that as well. I will say from the street if you dont know what your looking for you might miss the turn off for this store. But if your looking to get into raising live stock, chickens, horses, etc; you should really look into this store. There is plenty of parking. No parking on the street. Make sure you drive into the lot because it's to busy to park out in the street. Also, it's a local business and I always say support local businesses. I will definitely be back. Staff is helpful and friendly. It can be a bit understaffed but you will just have to wait your turn. They got to us with in a reasonable amount of time. When we went in here it felt like a small town feel. I like that. Thanks for reading my review.

Sierra Feed & Saddlery has become our number one place to buy wild bird seed. We love our wild…read morebirds and enjoy helping them get through the winter, by feeding them for the winter months. With that said it has been harder and harder to justify spending the money on seed because of the increasing prices or lack of quality at the big box stores. We normally buy the no mess blend from Moana Lane Nursery but at $59 for 20 pounds it hard to swallow. On a whim today we stopped here and took a look around. The very helpful gal at the counter pointed out the extensive selection of seed and yes they had a no mess 20 pound blend with a wide verity of seed in it. But how much is it? It is only $33, that's it. We will definitely be back and highly recommend stopping in.

This store has a lot of bulk bins for bird needs, such as chicken starter, scratch, meal worms, different seeds. I also saw some things for rabbits in the bulk bin area. It is a good way to try things or take care of your pets without buying everything in large packages. For example, if you are going to make a rare trip to chickadee ridge and need some bird seeds, you can use the bulk bin to get the amount you need for the hike. They have black oil sunflower seed in the bin too. This store carries organic chicken feed and also in a corn free soy free formula. They also sell poultry bedding which I didnt notice at another store. It contains de and zeolite already mixed in there. They sell stuff for horses and dogs too.

Glad to see this business finally is complying with what they have posted on their website about…read moretheir having a Military / Veterans Discount. (See my previous review) I am updating my previous review because I got a call from a fellow Veteran that this Big R was now finally honoring their web site advertised Military / Veterans Discount. Off I went to verify. Lo and behold, they have a sandwich board outside the front door boasting of their Military / Veterans Discount. So, I went in, scored a free bag of popcorn at the door, was directed to the merchandise I wanted, went to pay where I presented my US Department of Defense Military Veterans id. I received a Veterans Discount. NO employee thanked me for my Service. I'm not sure they even know what a Veteran is beyond that I get a discount there, nor why we are important. https://pullingforveterans.org/blog/why-are-veterans-important/ PROS Building is old but was clean, neat and not cluttered. Selection was adequate for the type of store it is. Organized Customer service was adequate. Disabled-friendly as aisles were clear and wide enough making them easy and safe to traverse. By that I mean the isles were not filled up with encroaching merchandise, and that merchandise in the isles was stacked low enough that I could see traffic. Child-friendly Family-friendly The always engaging and entertaining Horse Tails newspaper is available here. See my review of them at https://www.yelp.com/biz/horse-tales-publications-gardnerville No one here offered to commit fraud to reward us, pay us or compensate us for posting positive reviews of this business CONS Has many above average prices and has many items or products that lack durability, craftsmanship, or overall value as made with inexpensive materials and less attention to detail, resulting in a shorter lifespan or lower performance than more quality alternatives. In all fairness, so do big boxes The Home Depot and Lowe's. Not a hardware store (Ace Hardware was previously at this location). UNKNOWN Don't know about public restroom. Don't know about pet-friendly. I rate 'em 3 stars. According to Yelp ratings' definitions, that's "Ok". I added another star for their finally complying with their website boast of having a Military / Veterans Discount. A Military Veterans Discount is a token thank you and powerful gesture of earned respect to Veterans and GIs as it provides resource to ensure Veterans (rare 6% of the population) and GIs (rare one-half of one percent of the population) opportunity to participate in American Dream Veterans and GIs' sacrifices have made possible for 100% of the population. https://www.londonmiddlebury.com/blog-resources/the-history-strategy-behind-the-veteran-discount I'll be back. For my Customer Rule is: Always patronize again a business that has treated you okay AND publicly and consistently supports Veterans and Active Duty with a publicly disclosed daily Military and Veterans Discount. P.S. Don't message me because in spite of several complaints to yelp, for years now I am unable to open up any messages in yelp to me :-(

The store is organized, but my experience was so uncomfortable that I refuse to go back…read more About 2-3 weeks ago, I was shopping with my Caucasian husband. He received all the help he needed, but my experience was completely different. The moment I picked up an item in the camping aisle and handed it to my husband, who was carrying the basket, I noticed employees watching me. One employee kept their eyes on me for over 10 minutes. It got to the point where I had to make eye contact and stare back because I felt so uneasy. As a brown Asian customer shopping with my Caucasian husband, I couldn't help but feel like I was being singled out. The employees were constantly talking on their radios while watching me. They may have thought they were being subtle, but it was obvious. Whether intentional or not, I was left feeling as though I was being treated like I was stealing, and it completely ruined my shopping experience. No customer should leave a store feeling singled out or uncomfortable. This happened roughly 2-3 weeks ago, and I haven't been back since. Even though the store is only about a minute from my house, I refuse to shop there again. There are plenty of other places that know how to treat customers with respect.

**NEVER SHOP HERE...TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!**…read more This is an example of a business that is only surviving because they have no local competition in a small town. They have HORRIBLE customer service (or, more accurately, NO customer service and NO MANNERS). They expect people to shop there regardless of all employees being RUDE, NASTY, and UNHELPFUL. They also DO NOT ACCEPT RETURNS OF ANY KIND and do not stand behind their products or quality. They would not take back a bale of hay ridden with mold on the inside 1 DAY AFTER PURCHASE, and denied any responsibility. They also REFUSE to accept items WITH A RECEIPT for return or exchange, even when the product was broken upon purchase and it's THE STORE'S FAULT FOR SELLING IT. I would rather drive the distance to Reno or Fallon before wasting any of my hard-earned money on this AWFUL business, AND SUGGEST YOU DO THE SAME!! In addition, my friend went into this store with her 2 year old WHO WAS BITTEN BY A RAT in a cage for sale. There was no signage near the animal to beware. When he was bitten, he was bleeding heavily from his hand and the employees made NO EFFORT TO HELP, APOLOGIZE, OR ASSUME ANY RESPONSIBILITY. They begrudgingly got a few tissues for her ONLY AFTER SHE ASKED. They did NOT OFFER ANY HELP FOR HER INJURED CHILD and NEVER APOLOGIZED NOR ACTED LIKE THEY CARED. They are legally responsible for this accident. They never made any mention to whether the animal who bit the baby was vaccinated or whether the child would need a shot to treat the wound, never offered assistance or payment for the incurred injury, and still NEVER APOLOGIZED. TERRIBLE BUSINESS, DEPLORABLE ATTITUDE, THEY SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS!!
