I'm updating my review, We went to this Big R location only to discover it is back to AGAIN making false advertising claims used to gain business. We finally found the merchandise we wanted. We went to pay. We showed our valid government issued IDs which has our age on it verifying we're also Seniors, and our Veterans ids which documents we are also disabled. Clerk, robustly unapologetic; says NO Military Discount or Senior Discount. YET, we had gone there ONLY because Big R publicly boasts their ruse that they have a "Military Discount" and a "Senior Discount" with: "Do you offer a Military Discount? Big R is proud to support our military. Everyday, enlisted and veteran military personnel with valid ID will receive 5% off their purchase of clothing and footwear and 3% off everything else at Big R. This discount applies to regularly priced items only. We also offer a verified Military Insider program that allows you to shop online and receive your discount. To create an account visit one of our locations." "Do you offer a Senior Citizen Discount? Yes! Every second Tuesday of the month is Senior Tuesday. On this day, customers 62 and older with a valid government issued ID will receive up to 10% off their purchase. Available in stores only." We boldly left the merchandise and walked out because I believe that I as a customer have a lot of clout. I WON'T be back as I do NOT support business that doesn't support our GIs and me as a Veteran. This Big R location is AGAIN doing false advertising and AGAIN doing a Bait-and-Switch which is a Nevada NRS 598 illegal Deceptive Trade Practice. NRS 598.0917. Violators face penalties such as civil fines up to $10,000 per violation. Penalties for violating NRS 598: For individuals: Penalties can range from a misdemeanor for a first offense to a gross misdemeanor for a second, and a category D felony for the third and subsequent offenses. For businesses: A civil penalty of up to $10,000 for each violation can be imposed. For consumers: An individual who is harmed by a deceptive trade practice can bring a civil lawsuit and may be able to recover damages and attorney's fees. This place is huge and has a bit of everything from ranch supplies, automotive, clothing, home hardware, gifts and gardening supplies. I was welcomed upon entering and asked if I needed assistance three time in my stroll through the store. A friend suggested checking this store out. I thought it was going to be like Cabella's or other outdoor stores. While it is clean, well organized and stocked well it is not for me. The staff was very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to help but because the store is not a hardware store they didn't have what I thought I needed. I've come here multiple times from picking up chicks to buying feed. Today I was driving by on my way to Lemmon valley and saw they offer propane refill so I stopped. Service was quick and efficient! IM SO MAD I REALLY CARED WHAT TYPE OF BREED MY CHICKS ARE AND THEY LIED TO ME.. About a week ago, I bought what I was told was an Americano chick for my new flock. I went in today to get some mealworms and saw the chicks I had bought were relabeled New Hampshire chicks and moved into a bin. I asked what was going on why was I told the chick was an Americana when it was not. They also denied me the buy one get one free due to it had to be the same breed to get the deal and I didn't want the same of two breeds (which the lady today said should not have happen breed should not evict the deal), she said she has no proof of purchase and I pulled out my bank transaction. She didn't believe me and would not give any reason for selling me chick telling me that it was something that it wasn't. I was lied to about the breed then called a liar that I even bought a chick at that location. It was horrible experience I don't care about the $12 for the chick. I'm never going back to the big R! This store had one lonely, miserable-looking injured chick wearing a bandage. I am experienced in poultry rehab (felt sorry for it), so I was willing to purchase this lone chick and raise it in my brooder with my own newly hatched chicks. The clerk boxed it up, and I was headed for check-out, when the manager intercepted me, saying she wouldn't sell it to me. I assured her that I am experienced with injured chicks, and she said, "I won't sell to you because I don't know you." She said that she was planning to take the chick home and take care of it herself. Fair enough, but why make it personal? And why have it on the sales floor where soft-hearted chicken lovers would want to adopt it? Many farm stores will not sell injured or sick chicks per policy. I understand this may be Big R's policy, and it would have been easy for the manager to deny me based on that policy. Saying that she didn't want to sell to me (2x) was the most unwelcome feeling in a farm store, and I've been raising livestock for over 40 years! I've shopped at Big R in Fallon and Fernley for almost 30 years. I understand that the store manager wanted the chick for herself. Why not say so? We don't need to argue over a sick chicken. I was looking for a very small item, a rivet to be exact, to repair a safety cable. First I went to RV Country as they are a distributor of the brand of cables. RV Country didn't have anything that would work but suggested that I try BIG R as their selection of screws and rivets is HUGE. I made my way to BIG R and not only is the selection of screws and rivets HUGE, it is overwhelming. Bryant was able to help me out with a workaround. Instead of a rivet, which would have required a rivet gun plus they didn't have one this small, he found a screw small enough along with three tiny washers and two bolts. The cost of these items was $2.15 plus tax. I was so thrilled with the great customer service that I will drive the extra distance to Big R instead of using the Spanish Springs Home Depot. I stopped in to get small plastic pieces for a project I am working on and this place is impressive. Not only a hardware store but they have clothing and even baby chickens and ducks. These are available from February to April and I spent so much time looking at them. I was pleased to see that prices throughout the store is as good as the big box stores which I was not expecting. I have fallen in love with this place, whether it be their pricing on things like dog toys and treats, or exploring the whole store like a flea market, or the super friendly staff. You can score everything here from My Pillow, to wonderful artisan soaps, to just about everything down to fencing supplies. Who the heck sells fencing supplies? Absolutely worst customer service ever! We used to shop here frequently for household good, just because Lowe's and Home Depot can get pretty crowded. Came here today to return a chain saw chain that my husband purchased and they wouldn't accept it because the packaging was opened. The manager was a complete asshole about it and made snooty remarks about how we should have read the packaging and how they have something posted "everywhere" and all over the cashiers counters explaining as much. Spoiler alert: they don't. Unless it was hidden in the fine print that customer typically put their stuff down on. Convenient. I'm not sure what the manager said when he walked away mumbling something about due diligence under his breath, but we will never be coming to this place again. Aside from that unprofessional experience, the store isn't even fully stocked and there's no help to be had anywhere; the "stockers" never know where anything is and ignore you half the time. read more

I went in on July 5, 2023 and purchased a replacement water pump for my Champion cooler, which is just 4 years old. I got one and when I went to pay for it I mentioned that one I had purchased less than 1 year before at this store in Sparks had gone out, and I wished I had kept the receipt since it was still under the one year warranty period listed on the box. The person behind the counter said, "That's too bad. You better hold on to this receipt, and bring it in if it fails." Today is September 12, 2023, and it failed. I got the receipt out and took the pump back to where I purchased it, and was immediately told that they did not replace pumps on warranty, and perhaps I should write the manufacturer and see if they might honor the warranty. She said she was sorry, and I agreed. She's a sorry person, and I will never go to this retailer again. read more

I have been in all but the Burns Big R West locations, and out of the six, Sparks is the best so far. It's very similar to Coastal and Wilco in Oregon - they have everything you need and then some for your farm and home. I wish this store participated in the Do It Best ship to store program, otherwise, it's worth the trip - even from Dayton - just to avoid the big box hardware stores. This Big R also carries paint, which the other Big R's don't. read more

Real customer service is still alive and well in this store. Called before making the hour trip to town to be sure they had what I was looking for - a water pump and all the various hose parts and pieces. It was kind of an emergency, we had 10 inches of water under our entire house. They answered the phone first thing in the morning, went and looked, confirmed what they had, set aside what we needed, put together all the misc. pieces we would need, and helped me load it. They sold me a 5/16 hitch safety pin for my trailer that they recommended cuz they were out of others took it back yesterday unused with the labels on because it didn't fit and to get the correct one that fit finally in stock. Took it up to the cashier and she called an assistant/or manager come down. He asked me if I had a receipt from 6 weeks ago, I did not. The cashier told me it's the same price for each of them I just wanted a direct exchange them or screw up the inventory. He said sorry I can't do that without a receipt. Got in line with my purchase with one customer being helped. Only 1 register open. Because the line is building up and the customer is slow another line was open, credit card only. 10 minutes and the customer still has not paid and 3rd register is open. I'm next in line so I mover over there and was asked how I was paying, I said cash and was told this is credit cards only. First why didn't you say that when you opened like the other cashier did? Nobody moved from the original line because these 2 register only take credit cards. I guess they don't like cash there. No worries for me as I won't be spending my cash there again. I walked out and the customer was still trying to pay for her purchase at the first register. All that time wasted trying to make a purchase only to be told no cash, credit card only.
