Wow, rarely have I been treated so rudely at any kind of store. I got in one of the lines where a guy was cashiering (maybe he was the owner) and watched as 3 people at the other side paid for their goods and left. Meanwhile, this guy is happily chatting away with the customer in front of me while I'm waiting. Even after she paid, they were still talking so I went forward and asked if I could pay because I was in a hurry . He then proceeds to tell me that I was rude! Even as I explained that I was waiting while several people went ahead on the other side, he asks me "Why didn't you go on that side then?"!?! And then he tells me again that I'm rude. Well, that's the end for me. I'll never go back again. read more

We love this place, and never fail to stop by whenever in the area. However, we are super disappointed at the service my mother received today at Foothill Produce. She waited in a long line and paid for all her groceries as usual. When she was leaving the store, the cashier came running up behind her and said that she hadn't charged her for the strawberries (which were a whole crate, so my mom put them on the bottom of the cart, obviously). Mom said ok, let's go back inside and pay. Now, even though it was the female cashier's fault she started to treat my poor mom like some kind of thief, acted extremely rude, and asked her to get back in the long line again! Since my sick dad was waiting in the car, she asked politely if she could just pay the balance quickly and go. At which point, some other rude guy in line started yelling at my mom. Between the two of them, they reduced my poor, non-confrontational mother to tears. I just think, whatever you have to say to a customer, no need to be rude about it. And you'd really better not act like you're accusing them of stealing, when it's not their fault at all! Way too much drama for fruits and veggies, guys. read more

Not sure what the hype is about. This store is so hard to navigate and it is lack of common sense that the store owner has done nothing to clear aisles or reduce clutter to make for a better shopping experience. Are we a third world country or first world? The produce is not as fresh and have found Sprouts store to be a much better environment and reasonable to shop and they take things back if they are not ok too. This is a nice to have convenience store for a quick stop but then the lines are so huge without any clearly marked cashier line so that makes for frustration and hardly anyone understands English. Have noticed lots of mistakes on the receipt and they charge in a hurry whatever they feel like. A small Persian cucumber was $1 when u can get an entire regular cucumber for less than 50 cents elsewhere. Apples were rotten and all spoilt from the inside, so be careful what u buy. read more

I really wanted to like this place. A nice mom and pop store, just around the corner from my house. I tried and even kept coming back, but I am calling it quits. First of all, the place is not clean. There is usually a stench of rotten produce, and the meat cooler usually reeks as well. Let's face it people, if it smells like a dumpster, it should be in a one! Now the produce itself, walk in and take a look. It looks old, and bruised. The apples are wrinkled, red peppers have icky black spots, the onions are soft because they are too old. Basically the inventory is OLD and crappy. The final straw for me, is that more than once I have been charged more items than I purchased. This store is just gross and sad, I am not sure why people go there. Seriously, just look at the produce and let that make your decision. read more

Ran in here to get one zucchini, so as to avoid 7 rotting zucchinis in my crisper because you have to buy about 8 zucchinis in a pack at Trader Joe's, and am so glad I did. This place is fantastic. It's like a permanent farmer's market stall. Everything is fresh and shiny and the whole place just smells fresh. I'm planning to make this a weekly stop. read more

really inexpensive produce. sometimes can be hit or miss because it's on the cusp of spoiling. but tasty and quite a variety and extra star for great prices. just have to know how to pick out your stuff by smell, texture when you give it a squeeze. and eat it right away. overall though, not better than Sigonas. read more

I don't understand all of the positive reviews. I eat a lot of produce. I am a produce junkie. I usually buy my produce from the farmer's market but couldn't make the market this weekend so when I read the reviews for Foothill Produce I decided to give it a try. My first impression was that I found the produce to be old-looking. But I'm not a produce snob so I hunted around until I could find the best-looking fruit of each item I needed. I was shocked at how cheap everything was so i was really excited when I walked out of the store. The excitement was short-lived. The next day I made my weekly fruit salad. Both cartons of strawberries had some mold (they had been stored in my refrigerator) and the cantalope tasted rotten so I had to throw it out. The plums and nectarines had no flavor or were rotten so most of them had to be thrown out. Everything had been stored in my refrigerator. I think I forgot an important life lesson: you get what you pay for. I would rather spend $35/week at the farmer's market for delicious produce and no waste than $20/week at Foothill Produce for produce that has no taste and/or has to be thrown away from mold. read more

I fortunately discovered this market about 8 months ago. Felipe, the owner, is a gem, and his staff are very helpful and knowledgeable about the produce the market provides. You can find anything you want here, at very competitive prices, lower than in most major supermarket chains and other specialty grocery stores. read more

First and foremost, a simple opinion on the service, and offerings of this...establishment: 1. Striking first impression...lots of produce, but was it locally grown...? Maybe-but we were unable to confirm with any certainty the origins of the food due to the lack of openness from many of the staff members. When approached, the workers just got busier and spoke to you while "on the run" in very vague, short, half-answers... 2. Prices were good in some areas, excellent in others in comparison to the Trader Joe's next door, but where it counted for us, in the Organic section...oh, but wait, there is no "Organic" section...you have to pick out the organic food one item at a time, as what little of it there is is mixed in with the non-organic food...thanks for the time-saving service, Felipe...! 3. If I'm going to buy non-organic food, it's because I have a certain amount of assurance that the food is grown locally, pesticide & fertilizer free, etc... As stated above, I was clearly unable to establish this after polling staff-member-after-staff-member. 4. Logistics were very poor. Parking was pretty good, but inside the store...look out! Even with their "down-sized" shopping carts, this place makes Trader Joe's seem like a Costco when it comes to aisle space...most uncomfortable, especially when it gets busy. I also noted lots of frustration on the faces of those waiting in line. Conclusion: After being made to drool by the sheer volume of what looked like one of the best presentations and selections of fresh produce in the valley from a seemingly "independent" family, I ended up being moved by my sheer disappointment to write this lengthy review. Nice try, but I think I'll just keep supporting the Farmer's Market growers instead...! read more

Love love love this produce shop. It's a vast improvement on the earlier owner's offerings (though they were really nice people--and you can still run into the husband as he now works in Trader Joe's). The store is bursting out onto the sidewalks with fresh offerings, and the variety reflects the other thing I love about it--this stand recognizes the huge international community in our area and stocks both produce that isn't common in America and some other European and Middle Eastern food staples. They have a great cheese section (I found paneer there one evening when I was scheming to make Indian food, and I almost cried!), a wide offering of cookies, condiments, and other packaged foods from around the world, juices with totally foreign labels on them that look delectable, and breads that are fresh and interesting. Their freezer case stocks obviously frequently rotated and refilled ice creams, and they have a good selection of sausages. And I haven't even mentioned their bulk beans and nuts, or their spices. No wonder this store is thriving. Shopping here is a third world experience in one way, that the store is almost always crammed with people, and the carts can be quite difficult to navigate. However, I love that aspect of things, and trying to speak Spanish with the clerks. They are always nice about that. ;^) Did I say that the prices are great? When I'm in and out for just the veggies or fruit I need, I am always surprised that I can easily pay in cash, and it's a sum that's far less than I was expecting. I completely agree with other reviewers that it has become a much better place with the new owner. The price is right and the variety is excellent. However, read your receipt. It's been a few times that I was charged for things that I didn't buy or higher price than listed. They ran the cash register so fast that I couldn't keep up. The line is often so long that I hate to hold it up to check the receipt. I shop there every weekend and it really put a bad taste in my mouth when I noticed it once I got home. I think it has always been a female cashier who did it. Now, I try to buy fewer items and avoid the female cashier if I can. read more

I normally get my fruits and vegetables from Whole Foods / Andronico's / Ranch 99. When I first walked into Foothill produce, I was pleasantly surprised and shocked by the prices. The fruits/vegetables there are really fresh and it feels like shopping at the farmers' market, but it is cheaper than Ranch 99! I once found Rainier cherries at 2.49 (or 2.99) / lb. I would be able to find similar quality cherries at Whole Foods / Andronico's but I need to pay more than double that price!!! read more

Great prices, great quality, and so many interesting finds! Any time I am in the vicinity of Cupertino I will make an extra stop here to stock up. My friends and I talk all the time about how much we love this place. This store and the sister store Felipe's Market are undoubtedly the best grocery stores for fresh fruits and vegetables in the South Bay. We have enjoyed there fresh, reasonably priced groceries for over 4 years, earlier at Los Altos and now at Sunnyvale. Salute to Mr Felipe! read more

Avoid this place! These people are dishonest. You'd better check you receipts if you do. When I asked to confirm whether the mini watermelon was seedless since the sign did not indicate it was and I've ended up with seeded watermelon before, the guy working there told me how amazing the watermelon was and he would sell it to me for a special price of $1.99 each. I told him the sign said it was $1.79 each. So he said, "Oh, well you look rich. That is why it is a special price for you!" Really?! So at checkout they ended up charging me a per pound price so the mini watermelon ended up being over $4. I told them the mistake and they fixed it. By the way, the watermelon wasn't even sweet! When I got home, I realized they also overcharged me for the mangos. Counting 3 instead of 2. When I went back and told them, they said, "How do we know you didn't buy 3 and tell us you just bought 2." Apparently I needed to scrutinize the receipt before leaving the store because they charge whatever the feel like and they don't match their listed prices. As I look at past reviews yelp, it looks like this habit of overcharging has repeatedly occurred with past customers, which makes me wonder whether these were accidents or intentional on their part. Why would anyone want to shop there? They trick you with low prices (and the produce isn't even that fresh or good!), then overcharge you at the register. Never returning. read more

I love this place. The produce is fantastic and very inexpensive. It has a good selection of sausages, cheeses, grains sold in bulk, and also Acme bread. The people who work here are very friendly and give a great neighborhood feel. I like this place so much more than the Milk Pail. read more

i love this market. The prices are amazing and the employees are so nice and helpful. I usually go to Trader Joes also for other items and find that between these two, I can get a lot of my marketing done. I am trying to buy more locally (makeing me think when I buy certain things at Trader Joes or other markets) and love that the produce here is local, fresh and very innexpensive. Nothing negative, just do not over buy as things may not have as long a shelf life as supermarket produce. read more

Last Friday when I shopped in the store, one of the carriers of goods hit me hard in the back with his cart. The cart was full of the boxes with vegetables that is why the hit was so strong. I had to make an appointment to the doctor and I've been prescribed painkillers and two months of physical therapy. In short, shopping cost me two month coming to physical therapy. However, not this one touched me on the raw but as the indifference of the manager Saira Diaz to the accident. When I applied to her for assistance, she instead of expressing sympathy for me and readiness to help began to explain that worker had to move fast and the incident is nothing to care about and that may happen with everyone. She refused to give me her name (I found it from the shoppers) and tried all ways to diminish the significance of the incident. I became so upset that in future I will avoid shopping in your store. read more
