Earlier today I brought my elderly friend in for shoes. She is extremely overweight and had Alzheimer's and limited mobility. We were helped by Jason the salesman. He went above and beyond to take care of her. He saw she had difficulty getting out of the chair and got her a cushion to make it easier for her to get up. He suggested shoes, got her peds since she doesn't wear socks, put them on her scary feet. He went above and beyond to help her. Although she didn't find any shoes I wouldn't hesitate to go back there again if Jason was there to help. Footprints is lucky to have an employee like him! I haven't visited this store in a number of years but saw it across the street while having breakfast at the diner and decided to stop in. It was completely empty on a Sunday morning. It's kind of off the beaten path so I hope they get more traffic. It's a cute store and they have a nice selection of shoes for kids. I found a nice pair of new balance sneakers for my daughter as well as socks, a winter hat and gloves. My mom wanted to check out their Clarks selection. Our 5th time here. We used to go to a stride rite in NY until we moved to CT. This place is just as good attending to the childrens feet. My one son has orthotics in his sneakers and they know how to find shoes to properly fit it. We love Mr. Joe and how he talks with the kids. We will come back as long as it is here. The shoes are a lil higher in price than at generic stores, but better quality. I learned working in schools (former teacher turned homeschool mama) from the PT and OT therapists that shoes are vital for proper development and posture. I saw the difference in their sessions with different shoes... I will always save so they have good footwear. The selection is very limited and honestly disappointing. After traveling quite a distance, I mentioned my disappointment to the staff, who admitted this wasn't the first complaint and that the owner has been aware of the issue for quite some time but hasn't bothered to address it. DO NOT GO THERE! Customer service was terrible. I explained what I needed and what size I usually wear. Instead the individual brought out shoes that were too wide and inappropriate for the occasion. She was snippy and clearly irritable. The selection was poor, and when I inquired as to why she wasn't bringing out my size she replied that they didn't carry them. What a complete waste of time and energy.The young women at the checkout was rude and couldn't even manage a smile. On our trip to the best grocery store in Connecticut, we decided to stop at 79 Costello Rd. in Newington to see what our long time favorite shoe store had in stock. We were pleasantly surprised to see that they did have a good selection of sandals and sneakers available for the summer . We were however disappointed when we walked in, no one greeted us which is very unusual. After asking for assistance, we were helped. Like everywhere else, their prices have gone up about 20 percent. I was pleased to see they did have my aetrex sandal size in stock. It's unfortunate that with the economy being the way it is now, you never know if a business has the inventory and staff you would expect from day to day. I purchased 3 pair of excellent shoes from Footprints yesterday. The entire experience was wonderful, thanks to the very professional and knowledgeable sales assistant, Dorothy. She went above and beyond to help me find just the right shoes that would fit me properly. She understood that I wanted to get very comfortable (but good looking) shoes at a reasonable price, so she found me several on sale. She did this despite the fact that my feet are hard-to-fit due to a very high instep and other irregularities. Well, the selection is fabulous, there is no denying that, but the store is pricey! If I'm here, you better believe it's because one of the semi-annual sales is going on. When the sales are going on, you can also find coupons in the local papers, which make it even a little more palatable. I came here with my $10 off coupon to look for a pair of brown boots, and left with a new gray pair and a brown pair. Both were half off, and I may have had two $10 off coupons since the person I was with didn't find anything, so I got both pairs for less than the original price of one! Not the deal you could have found elsewhere at this time of year, but very good for this store. My only complaint is that I noticed on the receipt when I got home that the boots were a final sale, I'd strongly urge the store to start advising customers of this at the register. I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money for both pairs, but figured I'd return one if I found a better deal elsewhere, but now I realized I don't have that option. Good thing I tried on both pairs and really loved them, or I'd be quite upset. Many times when you buy something that is a final sale, the salesperson or cashier makes sure you know this prior to making the purchase. COVID-19 era review: The staff was masked, and hand sanitizer was by the entrance. This is how shoe stores used to be--you take a number from the department, and they find your size. The kids department lets kids try out shoes with a slide/peep hole play area, perfect for testing size and keeping kids entertained as they wait. Sal was super patient with my rambunctious little one, who was a little wound up after the first day of school. Five stars for the guest service! Four stars for the prices. Though there are sales, you'll pay more than Target prices...but again, no size guess work, and the shoes we got last time are still in great shape. Longer life than target shoes is the trade though. Let's say 4 1/2 stars. Technically, there are also pricier shoes out there, and they carry Merrill, New Balance, and other "good" brands. Good selection overall! Go in the weekday if you're distancing, because the weekend, pre-COVID at least, gets pretty busy. read more

I wish I had better updates for Footprints, especially when they often have $25 for $50 groupons. But I don't. One of my biggest pet peeves with the store is that you walk in and there's never any way to get helped if everyone is busy. You end up waiting around for a while and hoping someone is around and notices you. The employees at the desk tend to be be more engaged with talking to each other than helping customers. It's incredibly frustrating but maybe some day I'll remember that instead of buying the groupons. Finally this time I asked someone how to be helped and they snarkily told me that someone could double up and take care of me. The person I ended up with was wonderful. I just wish the process of getting to that person was easier and more friendly. She showed me the shoe I wanted to see and a bunch of similar ones and I ended up going with a suggestion instead. I went to Foot Prints to see if I could find a nice pair of casual shoes in size 12 N. The gentleman helping me brought out several pairs that were too wide, and 2 serious ugly pairs that almost fit ( not his fault they don't make nice shoes in my size.). Then we tried sandals. Again, no luck until one pair was close. I said I would buy it, but would need to return it a shoemaker was not able to shorten the straps. He said, no problem, you can return them if they don't work. So I bought them, took them to the shoemaker, he said no, he can't adjust them. So, o take them back to the store (30 min drive) and they say I can only get store credit since I bought the sandals 10 days ago. The salesperson should have said that I only had 5 days to return them for a refund, I never would have bought them in that case. He should have said that when I told him I'd have to return them if I couldn't get them altered. When I returned them and said "the salesperson didn't tell me ", they said "it's on the receipt " -- I wouldn't have a receipt if he'd told me because I wouldn't have bought the too wide sandals! Now I'm stuck with a store credit for a store that doesn't sell shoes in my size. I hate that store and will never go back. read more

I usually use yelp to find new places to try. Very seldom do I have an experience so terrible that I need to write a review. Footprints gave me an experience that I won't soon forget and have told all area people to beware of. I came by on Saturday morning, knowing what I wanted and needed- a pair of Birkenstock Arizona's size 42, medium. They are apparently the best summer shoe for us flat footed pregnant ladies. I must have drawn the short straw upon walking in because immediately, the saleswoman who approached me and asked what I was in for, proceeded to talk me out of my selection. Now Birks aren't cheap, but she was convinced just by looking at me that what I needed were 300$ orthotics. I told her no thank you, I'm here for the sandals, size 42, preferably brown or tan, whatever you have in stock. Nope, she continued to list the reasons why they were not what I would be looking for. Sensing my frustration, my husband interrupted with, "could she please just try them on? She knows what she wants" which was met with a petulant, "fine, Fine" I say again, "size 42" and she crosses her arms and says she can't bring me the shoes without measuring me first. I say "no thank you, I've tried them on before, I know what size I need". Again, she says, "I need to measure your feet!" This time irate and other customers start looking up. "Look," I told her, "I'd really rather not have my feet measured, I'm not a fan of people touching my feet". Now call me persnickety if you want but this peeve isn't exactly the most unusual of requests, nonetheless, she claimed that she had never had such a request and that she simply did not know how to help me. Surreal as this whole experience was, I couldn't possibly anticipate her simply throwing her arms up in frustration at ME! I just wanted to try on a pair of sandals! However, once I realized she wouldn't help me- I just told her, that I would be ordering the pair online. My husband and I turned around, and began to walk out. Well the shoe fits and it's from Footprints! So I needed to find a reputable shoe store that could properly fit a 9 Month old overachiever who is already walking....OMG! Well soon I'll be getting alot more exercise chasing after her because I think she'll be running by the end of the month. So, I decided to go on a Thursday since they have later hours and they are usually swamped with customers on the weekends. As soon as we walked in we were promptly greeted and directed to the children's shoe area of the store. There were two employees one very nice women sized Laurel's feet....2 1/2 wide. She then went in back and pulled several different shoe options from the rack. They had a few other various shoe styles that were not on display hiding in the back which made me vary happy since I was afraid that I wouldn't find anything since the shoes on display were more boyish looking. We ended up finding a cute pair of Baby Clarks. The store filled out an info card for Laurel so we could keep track of her size and they could send a reminder card off to us every 3 months since she shall need a new pair approximately in that time sequence. read more

The store was empty, and there were two employees standing inside the door talking to each other. Neither made any move to acknowledge our presence, so I went over and made a little joke about how they looked important and could they help us? The gentleman mumbled something under his breath about "not in my home". I asked a second time if he could show us a specific shoe. He pointed over there someplace. After hunting for five minutes we finally found a small display and picked up a shoe. I waved it in his direction and he came over. After several normal questions about color, size etc, he went out back and came back two pairs, wrong size, wrong color. No attempt to suggest something comparable etc. that was it, take it or leave it. He had the personality of cold oatmeal, and was as helpful as a rubber crutch. So we left quietly never to return. I've shopped at Footprints before and had a great experience, so when it came time for new sneakers I came back. Today's trip will be my last visit. After waiting for about 20 minutes for help, the employee " helping" me rushed through the entire process. I measured one size, but because I have an extra wide foot told me I should go up half a size. That size was way too big! He didn't even lace the shoes properly. During my first visit the employee showed me a special way to lace sneakers..today's employee had knowledge of that way of lacing, but said he couldn't do it. I also wanted new insoles and asked if he could trim them to properly fit the new shoe. This was done during my first visit which is why I asked. His response was that he "wasn't trained" to do that. I even have a doctors note saying they were too small. Just walked out of footprints aggravated. The saleswoman didn't understand product. I need a good sneaker to walk and jog in and she insisted all sneakers at footprints were equal in function. I told her I did not want black sneakers and she continued to bring black sneakers my new balance out, when asked if she had another brand name she said now and then all of a sudden brought out a black Nike. She then was rude with me grabbing the sneaker out of my hand telling me she'll bring out a white sneaker but was huffing away and then I came to my senses, deciding I don't need this aggravation either I have other stores I can choose from. I'm sorry but closing at 5:45 means closing at 5:45 not 5:40. Door locked at 5:40 with a security guard letting the last customer out. I had to run in to grab one thing, not try anything on and it was an emergency. And to make sure all the customers were gone and door locked at 5:40 they most likely stopped letting customers in a lot earlier. read more
