I went to Footwear because I needed to find some shoes for my flat feet. They had a very good selection of shoes that would accommodate most folks from hiking to running and lifestyle. Tanya was extremely helpful and while I wasn't able to find the exact shoe I wanted, I was able to narrow down the selection thanks to her help. Tanya was never pushy, was extremely polite and professional! Unfortunately, they didn't carry any men's shoes in my size I'll be coming back in the future for my running shoes. First off, my feet were killing me and I knew my shoes had to go. I usually order online and that seemed to work but my feet are especially neglected. Went in to the store to get serious and try something on for a change. Cameron was quick to point me to a couple of candidates, given my requirements, and within minutes I had a new pair that my feet are still thanking me for. Went in today around 5:15PM. There was one vendor, busy with a family. My daughter and I waited 15-20 minute, sitting in a chair. The vendor didn't even look at us once. After this long wait, we decided to leave. Won't go to this store anymore - I had a similar experience previously. Thankfully, there is the San Mateo store! Please do talk with your vendors and train them on how work in parallel and take care of customers. Nobady should have to wait 20+ minutes and not even be greeted. We would have been fine with just getting the shoes in our size and could have tried them on by ourselves. Very disapointing, we were just ignored. read more

What a delightful experience here! After recent foot surgery I came here for some roomy shoes because they have a solid selection of shoes for people with special foot needs. First thing--completely unrelated but not--my absolutely most hated Christmas song came on and I shared my thoughts about it, and Tanya--the most awesome shoe sales person I've come across in years--skipped the song for me. :D Great start!! She also guided me to a few possible options for accommodating my lopsided foot situation--one normal, one in major recovery mode--and found some Birkenstocks that worked perfectly. I drove from San Francisco to come to this store. I walked in and the store was busy. I just wait a waited a few minutes. When I was greeted, I was asked what I needed, I told the guy I was looking for a pair of HOKA shoes and wondered if they had it an a 13 wide which is really hard to find. I was expecting a no but to my surprise, they had it! They didn't have the full black but had this other black with a white sole. When he took it out of the box, I actually liked the pair he took out more. Tried it on and was sold. It was a little cheaper too than I thought. Small store (chain) located on the main drag in San Carlos. Great selection of shoes and the like as one would expect. In fact they pack a tone of shoes into such a tiny store. Mostly medium to high end brands, and of course accessories. Friendly attentive staff and they had the Tapitio Socks my son was looking for (don't ask). Parking can be really bad depending on time of day. That being said there are tons of other shops along the street so its easy to cluster your shopping needs. read more

Stopped by after finding parking near Laurel Street, not always easy, to find the store closed with a note on the door "OUT TO LUNCH" at 1:40pm on a Saturday. The note did not say when they would return. I did not have an hour to wait around, hoping that they did not just close and would be back soon. Will not go to this location again. The 3rd Avenue location had always been great, and I regret that I thought to try the one on Laurel Street as I was near it. I completely understand having to close a small business for breaks, but a note on the door saying when they would open back up would be very helpful to customers. Thank you Jocelyn for terrible service!!! We came to store to get help about my hoka which had many issues. I explained the situation and the gentleman told me that they can not take the shoes after 1 month. That s okey for us because that s a policy. Than we asked the slaes staff can we get the reciept if i give my number or e mail. She was so straight and rude to us. Even she did not want to look at my face while we were talking. Love your feet. They take you everywhere all day every day. I love my feet. I take care of my feet. If you work for hours on your feet like I do - footwear is extremely important. I have pumps and flats that are "comfort" brands I purchased at Nordstrom and Macy's that aren't comfortable after a few hours. I find my toe box burning, my baby toes swelling, my foot pad area on fire and why does my leg bone feel like it wants to puncture through my skin? Yes, the disappointment of shoes that were supposed to be comfortable and help me power through 9 hours of walking and standing at work. Interestingly enough - what I just realized, the brand is the deciding factor in how comfortable the shoe is based on your actual foot. Just because it's labeled comfort doesn't mean it will be for you specifically. Rocket science all day every day. I tried on so many great styles and brands of comfy shoes. Then I decided on 2 pairs. Your girl is quality driven. No one is surprised. I walked out of the store wearing my new shoes and I scored a nice discount! The service was outstanding. I didn't feel rushed or pressured. I had so many boxes of shoes at my disposal to try on. He slid my foot into each pair I wanted to try and told me the benefits of each brand/style. I felt well cared for and I really love my shoes. I came in over the summer prior to a trip to Europe. I'd purchased some Birkenstock sandals from another place, and I needed holes to be placed in the straps I called and was told that they could add new holes to my straps. The thing I noticed was the nice job San Carlos has done to give their commercial downtown area a hometown feel, so my going to try on some walking shoes turned out to be a pleasant experience. I prefer buying shoes in person. There is no way on God's green earth that you can purchase shoes online. I've tried and the shoes received did not come close to what was shown, nor the fit or quality, let alone the returning of said items and dealing with customer service. I called ahead to make sure there was someone there. There was. Alex was my salesman and walked me through the options on hand. He was friendly and thorough but here's where it gets sticky. The shoes I picked for their width were sold out in all their stores in my size. I ended up choosing a pair of Hokas. They come in extra wide, have a good reputation, and are highly sought after. I spent more than I expected for a pair of walking shoes but they're excellent, high end tennis shoes. The only negative is selection. I sought slip ons because of back issues but they lacked in this area, so a specialty shoe place it isn't. But still, I highly recommend this place because of the ambience the area affords the buyer, so consider having lunch or dinner after finding a new pair of shoes. You'll be back. The other day I found a pair of shoes online that looked perfect for summer wear. Comfortable, stylish. I've had mixed results with online shopping, but both Amazon and Zappos are great with returns and exchanges. And both usually offer the lowest prices. This time, though, I did what I usually do: I Googled the make and model of the shoe in question. Lo and behold, Footwear Etc. came up quickly with a much lower price than their online competitors! I called my local store, and the manager located the shoes and put them on hold for me. The next day, I went in and tried on said shoes... which turned out to be incredibly comfortable. The same manager was on duty, and he couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. It felt great to support a local vendor--especially now. Footwear Etc. has a lot of shoes available from popular brands, and there is nothing better than being able to try on shoes first. My husband kept borrowing my Orthaheel flip-flops, the most comfortable sandals I've ever found. Orthaheel shoes were designed by a podiatrist and recommended by my podiatrist. For Father's Day, I decided to get him his own pair. Yes, we wear the same size shoe. When I walked into Footwear etc., the store manager asked me what size I needed. I took off my sandal and showed her, and told her I was looking for the same flip-flop for my husband. She beamed at me warmly, "Oh, you're a 10+!" She wasn't referring to my runway looks at this point, but my shoe size. Yes, I have big feet, which got even bigger after having my son. She then told me she was also a 10+, and we high-fived each other. She informed me that this particular location of Footwear etc. carries a lot of shoes for women size 10 and higher. And, she was throwing a party with bubbly, food many, many shoes, all size 10 and up. She handed me a flowered invitation that announced, "You're Not Just A 10...You're A 10+." I like the positive spin on big feet! Would I like to come? Why not? It was interesting to see how crowded that 10+ shoe party was. It was hard to walk around and see the shoes, since it was packed with so many fabulous 10+ women. There seems to be a need for shoes in larger sizes, and Footwear etc. is filling it. Good for them and good for us. There are lots of comfortable, high quality shoes in this store. Just some of the brands they carry include Dansko, Naot, BeautiFeel, Clarks, MBT, Mephisto, and UGG® Australia. While the prices aren't cheap, I feel that you get what you pay for here. I like supporting this store, which is not a franchise, but independently owned. There are nine Footwear etc. locations, plus an online store (free shipping on U.S. orders $60 & up, and no sales tax), and this San Carlos store is now my favorite. I bought my husband his Orthaheel flip-flops, and now he doesn't need to steal mine anymore. Oh, and I bought myself a fancier pair of Orthaheels that had sparkly bling on it.
