Had a great experience with For Eyes near 13th and G NW. Went for a regular eye exam (for glasses only) and was able to do the exam without getting my pupils dilated. Tommie Lee (optometrist) was great. He was really talkative, friendly, and thorough. He seemed competent and gave me some new advice on how/when to wear my glasses. I've never had an optometrist take such care to get the right prescription, and I feel confident that we got it right this time. I am so grateful for For Eyes. I'm visiting in the city and my prescription sunglasses break. I'm missing a leg and I can't really use them effectively. I walk into the store and Kevin quickly takes the glasses, goes into the back, finds a replacement piece that really compliments the Marc Jacobs frame, fixes them, cleans then, adjusts them to my face, smiles and has me on my way in minutes. I ask how much I owe him and he says nothing.... wow, this rarely happens in business. I would definitely check them out if I was local. read more

While I no longer get eye exams here, unfortunately, I have to use this place in order to get my discount for contacts through my insurance. I've just spent three weeks calling every few days to get my contacts filled. They accused me of using an expired prescription although the doctor's office told them twice it was not. Whatever you do DO NOT DEAL with Cindy. She is clearly not trained in customer service and seemed to relish in telling me "we can't sell you contacts." This entire experience is inspiring me to get Lasik. read more

TLDR : It's been 2 weeks and my refund is nowhere to be found , they now have the glasses and my money . UPDATE : about 4 days after writing this i finally got my refund check in the mail, still a ridiculously bad customer service experience . This has to be the worst run discount glasses chain in DC . I've been to America's Best , Mr Eye DR , Lenscrafters( BEST , you get what you pay for and you pay a bit more here ) and Hour Eyes . So here's what happened , I noticed my prescription was a bit off , and I decided to return my glasses . Originally I wanted to just trade them in for the new prescription , but the sales rep was absolutely bewildered and told me to just take the glasses back and get a new order . Ok, so about 2 weeks ago I take them in on a weekend for a return . Simple right , nope . The manager wasn't their , and only he could authorize a return , I couldn't go to another Foreyes since the glasses need to be returned to the same store . Now like an idiot, I leave the glasses and the receipt with the clerk and she assures me that the manager will process the return on monday , ok . I call that monday , giving the manager the info he needs to "process" the return , and he claims that they'll send out the check( since I paid cash ) . That was about 2 weeks ago , I've yet to see a refund check and when I called last Friday and asked for the manager the clerk literally told me "He prolly be back in Monday" . AWESOME , I'm now out about 230$ and the manager doesn't f**king work Saturdays or Fridays . Hour Eyes and Lenscrafters are both far better choices , both were able to help me purchase and return glasses if I had a problem with them . Stay away from these clowns and America's best . read more

These folks sent the kit in the mail after a complaint so I have to up them one star and appreciate their effort.

I should have read these before I went, but I was in a hurry and it's close to work. But it's bad enough to warrant my first ever post. Avoid this place. 6 staff were milling around talking with each other, none of them were helpful. I arrived on time for my 3:20 appointment, and was presented with a document to fill out. They asked me to sign a privacy notice release without providing the privacy notice, then looked offended when I asked to see the release. I was told to take a seat. Ten minutes later, I asked how much longer it would be (need to get back to work), and was told a doctor would come out shortly. I asked if they needed my insurance info (I'm a new patient...) and she said yeah, that would probably be good. I provided it. Ten minutes later I inquired again about when I would be seen and was again stared at like I had asked her dress size. Screw it, I'm out. No services rendered, 35 minutes of life wasted. Try someplace where they actually care about their customers. read more

The only good part of my service was after five visits, two eye exams and three separate pairs of glasses being made, I was given a full refund so I could go elsewhere. Like other reviewers, I found it took everyone a long time to do anything. Some of the staff was extremely nice, some very rude, as if the blame was on me for not being able to see through glasses that -- in the end -- were not the right prescription. Kudos to them only for accepting that my patience had come to an end, and promptly refunding my money. It seems like a trend - the two Optometrist are GREAT - but the rest is run shoddy. I went to Dr. Lee and I would go all the time to him for now. But as a Paying customer why will they not give you a PD - an EYE Prescription is useless without it. It takes 60 seconds!! I only give it stars for the Docs... the rest is crap.... read more

This review is for Dr. Lee, who is terrific. I've seen several optometrists during my lifetime, and Dr. Lee is my favorite. He remembered everything about my vision, even though I hadn't been to see him for a few years. He was extremely thorough with the exam and interested in the health of my eyes overall, not just my vision, and asked a lot of questions about my lifestyle, computer use, etc. so he could give me advice about glasses/contacts wear. He's really friendly and definitely made me feel at ease. Prices here for exams and glasses are definitely very reasonable compared to other optometrists I have visited. They aren't pushy at all about buying glasses and frames, which some shops are, and the glasses I got have been really durable (in fact, I showed the glasses I got here to another place, and they were shocked at how thin the lenses were for my strong prescription). Although you won't find any frames from small independent brands here, they carry a decent range of frames (both designer and non-designer), and at the time they offered 50% off the second pair of glasses. read more

Like the other review said, some of the staff is pleasant, some isn't. I explained to the woman who did my basic tests that I was in because I broke my glasses and needed a new prescription for a new pair. Knowing this, she made me go back out to the waiting room when we were done without my contacts...didn't even lead me in the right direction when I couldn't see a foot in front of my face. I thought Dr. Lee was great at first. He explained the basics about the eye and nearsightedness and was very friendly. Unfortunately as I walked back to work with the trial contacts he gave me, I noticed everything was blurry out of my left eye. When I went back for a follow up, he mentioned a slight astigmatism in that eye that he didn't tell me about the first time. It was simple to fix, just go back to the type of contacts I previously used. Now, a while after my visit, I've noticed a prism measurement on my prescription. After some research online, I'm realizing it would have been very useful if he had explained this to me. I declined getting prisms in my glasses because they cost more and I didn't know I needed them. Now I'm reading that not correcting this can cause headaches. I specifically asked him if my eyes could be causing the headaches I frequently get. Looks like I'll be going to a new optometrist with plenty of questions. read more

Dr. Lee was absolutely AMAZING! He was kind, knowledgeable, and professional. He explained everything he was doing as he was doing it which made me feel really comfortable. I was also very impressed by how nice his staff was. Further, I felt no pressure to buy glasses from their establishment (which is a first because usually they hover over like vultures until you buy). I cannot express how impressed I was with the practice. I will return to Dr. Lee every year from now on. read more

Customer service contacted me immediately after I posted my original review and Dr. Lee sent me a refund for the $60 charge. Apparently it was not a new patient fee, but a contact lens fitting fee. Contact lens fitting is definitely covered by my vision plan, so this must have been an erroneous charge. Otherwise they would have been charging both me and my insurance for the same thing. I appreciate that they were so quick to resolve this. They obviously care about their reputation in the community to respond so quickly to one customer's review. Thank you! read more

Dr. Lee is great - he's seen both me and my children and he is very personable, professional, and answers questions well. However, the staff is weird and needs better training. I was really taken aback when the person who gave me my contacts refused to provide me with solution as I picked them up. In the 20 + years I've worn contacts, that's a new experience. read more

Nice doctor. Bad fitting of my progressive lenses. The most difficult thing about this spot is that they don't have their own lab for cutting lenses. They send their frames off to Florida to be fitted with your prescription. Takes too long when you consider that there are a lot of vision retailers with labs in the city. Dr. Sutton was nice but the prescription she wrote for me was not accurate. It didn't seem to align with my previous prescription, so I asked my two optometrist friends to look at it. They compared this year to last year, and the computer prescription didn't align at all with last year's prescription and with the regular prescription for this year. One friend told me to go to another place to get another prescription, but my health insurance will cover one visit per year. I have to wait until January. It's a huge hassle and a waste of $40 copay. I also didn't like that they try to upsell you to the fancy 3D eye exam that doesn't require dilation of the eyes but costs more on top of the copay. read more

Dr. Lee is fine, Which is unfortunate for him because the shop is so bad. I was first told my glasses would arrive on April 16, then April 20th, then April 22. It was so frustrating that I called Vanessa at corporate customer service. She told me she would call me back in 2-3 hours. She didn't. I sent a note to customer service. A regional manager named David called telling me the glasses would not arrive until April 26 (he might have said the 28th). At that point I started yelling at him. I totally lost it and demanded a refund. Which David agreed to. I went to 1304 the next day at 10:10 AM for the refund. The store is supposed to open at 10:00 AM. That is what it says on the answering machine when you call as I had earlier that morning. By 10:25 or 10:30 AM the store still had not opened. A woman arrived, unlocked the door and said "We're not open yet." Then ignored me when I told her she was supposed to open at 10:00. When she finally opened, I asked about the delay. She said it was because the doctor wasn't coming in. No apology. It was an awful experience from start to finish. One other thing. The manager Alex seems nice enough. However each time I called he said he would look into the situation and get back to me. But he would not. This occurred at least twice. I would have to call Alex back as a follow up. THEN Alex would place me on hold and relay information. It was only when David, the regional manager got involved that Alex would follow up with me. My advice -- Go to Lenscrafters or Visionworks. They are very close by. read more

Not a pleasant overall experience.I ordered glasses for my frame and they came out with incorrect readings.I had prescription with doctor at same place and had to re-do the prescription to learn the initial measurements were taken incorrect. Overall,I had to wait 16 days to get my frame back with right glasses installed. read more

For Eyes scores again! I went back for frames after getting my prescription there a few months back (I was highly satisfied with the optometrist and staff overall, though I was equally displeased by a surprise 'fitting fee' that they suddenly charged at the end - that full review should be on Yelp as well and you should definitely grill them about it in advance if you go there for a prescription). This time, they did not disappoint. I walked in the door and was immediately greeted by a specialist (Sylvia?) who came out from the desk to help me locate frames. Rather than asking me the typical questions (metal or plastic? round or rectangular? color preference?) she honed in on a great question: what size frames are you looking for? She then made the rounds, collecting a wide variety that matched my specifications - a number of which I would never have selected for myself. Long story short, she is *very* good at her job, and I fell for two pairs that she picked out. She then worked with my budget to make it possible for me to purchase *both* pairs, and I'm so excited I feel like a kid waiting for Santa to come and drop them in my stocking. Erica the Asst. Manager was terrific, as well as the other front desk staff. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. I will be back! read more

I have been going to this store for several years and the service has always been fine. But two weeks ago it was out of this world. It was efficient, fast and helpful - and an incredible bargain to boot because they were having a great sale! And as far as I am concerned, all the credit goes to store manager Paul Allen. He helped with my 1) frames, 2) lenses - including which package was the best for me - being helpful, but not at all pushy 3) fitting. And when I came in to pick them up, he also did the adjustment. I had an overall excellent experience here. Yes, some of the front desk staff are inattentive, but once you do get their attention, they are very helpful, courteous, and professional. My insurance gave them trouble, but they remained pleasant and got it taken care of for me. Dr. Lee was great, and really took the time to get to know me. He also gave me some new information and tips on an existing eye condition, before my exam. Nobody pressured me at all to buy new frames, but when they saw me browsing, they came over to help me. I got very good advice on what worked (and didn't) for my face shape and coloring. I just got my glasses and am very happy with the quality of the lenses, too. read more

The front desk and Dr. Sutton at For Eyes are PHENOMENAL. The front desk was incredibly kind and helpful, and arranged a way to hold my payment on contacts until the next day so I could use my FSA card I had forgotten at home. Dr Sutton was very attentive on my first visit; she was very polite and explained things in a way I understood but didn't talk down to me. I needed to come back on a second visit and it was no charge to try another set of contacts. She needed to prescribe a specific regimen of eye drops and when I called to be reminded of them the next day she immediately remembered who I was, what she prescribed, and walked me through what to buy at Walgreens. Absolutely a life long customer (as long as I'm in DC) and recommending Dr. Sutton to everyone I know. read more

I have been going to Four Eyes stores up and down the east coast since 2007 and have never been disappointed. This store was able to fit me in this week to get an exam. During the exam, the associates were already working on helping me pick out glasses that matched my search criteria so that right after I was finished with the exam we could continue trying on glasses. And Dr. Sutton was so kind and attentive during the exam. She answered all my questions, made me feel comfortable, and thoroughly advised me on steps I should take to maintain good eye health. I can't imagine going anywhere other than Four Eyes. If you haven't been, I highly recommend taking a stop here. Their frames are not only reasonably priced but the service you'll get from the associates is beyond wonderful. Unlike some stores which are just trying to get you to buy their product, these associates really care about their customers getting the frames that they want. They will help search with you and are kind, courteous, and most importantly honest when it comes to picking out frames that match your face and personality. They were beyond amazing on advising me that I walked away with three amazing frames and am anxiously awaiting to go back to pick them up. read more

I am not quite how I'd like to give this place a review. I was disappointed with the lady from receptionist because she was choked when I informed her that I am deaf and gestured "paper and pencil" she wasn't very communicative nor gave lack of instruction when she was checking my eyes. Didn't expect to be even more disappointed when I met with dr tommiee Lee - he thought I was joking when I told him I was deaf and we would need to write back and fort to communicate. He was like cmon and wanted me to lip read him. The reason why I refused because I do take my appointment seriously I only have four senses so my eyes are extremely important to me. I had to be straightforward with him and told him if he cannot accept then I want another doctor who would be willing to write back and forth. During the eye exam he was alright with writing back and forth. Finally I met with a lady who was helping me out to pick out glasses - I liked her the best! She had a great common sense and started writing down a piece of paper about my insurance and what I'd need know about buying a pair of glasses. I don't think I'd come back here again I've never met a doctor nor assistant choked about my deafness and were not willing enough to write back and forth for my communication needs. read more

Be careful calling For Eyes for an appointment. The receptionist won't even talk to you about an appointment, she just puts on a recording where they tell you to schedule your appointment on line. But then if you need an appointment within the next 48 hours you have to call the receptionist who won't talk to you. read more

Absolutely avoid this store like the plague. Purchased glasses - the frames broke at the hinge at about 5 weeks. Purchased a replacement pair and also insurance. Broke at the hinge in 3 weeks. Changed frames and paid the difference. The lenses popped out of the frame about once every 5 days. Took it back. One lense stayed in for a month, but the other popped out about once a week, then once every few days. Superglued the lenses in. Then the screw fell out of the hinge. Took it in to this store. There were 4 employees behind the desk, one customer and myself. We were told to take a seat, while the employees went about their business - one was putting stamps on a stack of about 50 envelopes, two others were on computers, and the 4th was finishing a phone call. After waiting about 10 minutes, and being late for work, I gave up and left, leaving the glasses behind to be "adjusted". The one person who say me looked at the broken frames and said "Oh, you need an adjustment." No,I need a replacement screw put into the hinge. I expect they will try to charge me for an "adjustment" when I pick them up. I will never never never go back to this store. Defective projects, price gouging and terrible customer service. If I could give them zero stars I would. read more

This review should really be two reviews, a five star and a one star review. As you'll see, I've averaged them to a two because I think the badness of the one star review is more significant than the goodness of the five star review. In chronological order: Five stars: Last December, I got my glasses through this For Eyes. After spending an hour or so looking at glasses on my own, one of the clerks picked out a set of glasses for me. I had already dismissed the glasses as too flashy, but when I tried them on, they looked fantastic. In short, the clerk knew what he was doing -- better than me -- and my experience with the store was fantastic. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. One star: I was on vacation and noticed that my glasses were a bit crooked. Last week, I took them in to For Eyes for them to readjust the fit a bit. Instead, the store rendered the glasses unusable. First, the salesman (a new one) took the glasses to the back of the store. When he returned them and I put the glasses on, the lenses seemed like someone had smeared vaseline on the front of them. I assumed the inexperienced clerk had just smudged them up and so asked him to take them back and clean them. (I didn't have any cleaning solution on me.) When he brought them back a second time, the view was a little better, but it still was obscured by something on the lenses. I told the clerk they still weren't clean, but this time, my suspicions aroused, I followed him to the back of the store. I asked to see the cleaning solution and cloth he used, and they were fine. I also re-examined the glasses and found a network of fine lines scoring the front of the glasses. They looked like I imagine they would look if someone had rubbed them around on some fine-grained sandpaper for awhile. The other clerks then jumped in to emphasize that the cleaning solution couldn't have done that, etc. I responded that I didn't know WHAT had caused the problem -- I wasn't in the back when the clerk destroyed my lenses -- but that it happened under their control, and it was their fault. The head clerk then asked the clerk "helping" me if he had put my glasses in heat, to which he said he had, and she then noted that the lines were likely my anti-reflective coating seizing up in the heat. I then stated that the store would be replacing my glasses, for free, and she agreed, although she noted they would do it regardless of who was "really" at fault--as if the clerk's incompetence was somehow my fault. I can no longer recommend For Eyes. I went in to get a simple re-adjustment and, instead, they destroyed my glasses and insulted me in the process. From the way they were acting I'm not sure they would have offered to replace the glasses of a customer who was a little less aggressive than me. Overall, I give For Eyes 2 stars because my first experience with them was so fabulous, but my second was so terrible. I think one's experience with the store depends entirely on the competence of the person helping you, and the store appears to have very little quality control. As glasses are both expensive and vision is crucial to my work, I can't afford that kind of variability. Don't go here unless you can. read more

I had an awesome experience at For Eyes Optical. Erica was especially helpful. She was funny and friendly and VERY VERY helpful. I bought progressive lenses for the first time in early 2016. I was a little nervous about it but Erica put me right at ease with her sense of humor. I came in a year later to buy a new pair of glasses and SHE REMEMBERED ME BY NAME! Erica also gave me a very good price on an extra pair. She was very flexible in offering me different types of lenses with the option to bring them back if they didn't work well for me. I now have 3 pairs of glasses that I love. This kind of customer service is hard to find, and it goes a long way in my book, so I will be using For Eyes Optical for my glasses needs for now on.
