My dad is a former Vietnam Veteran and I am going to look for some of his artifacts to donate to the Museum. This is a great event for the whole family to enjoy!

I recently came to House of Shine to attend a junk journaling class. The environment was friendly,…read moreinviting and the space was beautiful. Before the class starts, one of the staff will discuss the vision behind House of Shine and ways to get involved. They have a yearly rotating exhibit with interactive activities throughout the space. Amanda the founder of DFW Junk Journaling Club was our instructor. Amanda provided information on junk journaling, showed examples through her own journals, provided supplies and answered any questions we had. The journaling classes are low cost ($10) and they have ample parking available on site. We were encouraged to bring our own supplies for junk journaling which includes receipts, stickers, pictures, cards etc. The class was casual and you could come and go as you pleased. There are meetups throughout the year for those interested in junk journaling discussed on their Instagram page or on linktree. I left the class inspired and look forward to expanding my creativity through journaling. I look forward to attending another journaling class in May.

Visit offers a 15-minute educational video that walks you through how U.S. paper currency is designed and produced, followed by a 10-15 minute self-paced audio tour along an enclosed walkway overlooking the actual production floor, where you can watch billions of dollars being printed in real time! The exhibits on currency history and security features were very interesting but it's a bit too serious for little kids to enjoy. I'd say 8 years old and up is the best audience.

The public entrance is clearly labeled and easy to find. Once you turn into the parking lot, you'll see the building where security checkpoint is and be sure to leave all the prohibited items (including cellphones) and other unnecessary things at home or in the car before entering. We found out only women were allowed to take a handbag or purse in and men who have any sized bags of any sort are not allowed to take them in. Not sure why, but not going to question that either. It feels safe to leave everything in the car because it is federal land that is secured with lots of cameras and security. After security checkpoint, you'll be asked to wait for the next shuttle to arrive and you'll be shuttled to the actual engraving and printing facility. It is just a short ride (maybe a few mins) and then you're there to see all the history and everything you need to know about how currency is made and how it works. The two floors were plentiful in providing information and fun facts about money and the self-guided tour upstairs will let you see the money being printed, sliced, and packaged. Lots of reading material if you're into that. There is also a small gift shop to check out before boarding the shuttle back to get your car. The gift shop has many little knickknacks and souvenirs one may find interesting enough to buy. There is also unsliced currency and shredded currency for purchase. If you want certain dollar bills with certain numbers on it, you can also ask to buy it. Pretty cool place to visit overall!

The only issue I had was not getting everything in writing, so make sure you specifically get everything in writing so you can look back on it if there are any miscommunications. We were told we would have a rehearsal the Friday before the wedding (the wedding was on the following sunday). We were also told we could decorate after the rehearsal was over because no one was going to be in the room. On friday we called to confirm the time which was 7pm. They said they did not have a rehearsal scheduled for us and that we could not come to decorate because Firemen were having a meeting in there at the time. This was the first thing I wished I had in writing, because I know we had confirmed for that previously. After this we had to arrange for everyone to come in early on Sunday so we could still decorate and do a quick rehearsal. When we were going over the contract Royal who is their event planner said that we could stay until 8pm. When we got there suddenly it had changed to 7. He ended up later allowing us to stay until 7:30 because I think he realized he had messed a few things up for us with the rehearsal and all. We were also told by him that he had a bar tender for us and 2 servers. He ended up being the bar tender and we only ended up having one server. All and all it all worked out in the end. The decor was beautiful in the church. I was pretty relaxed for a bride so I didn't have a huge freakout or anything, but I am sure some people in the same situation would. If you are looking for a nice venue, with affordable accommodations where you have a lot of availability to provide your own things such as decor, music, food, alcohol ect. this is a good place for you. Just please do not make my mistake, whatever they offer you get it in writing! We are also pretty sure we paid the bar tender fee twice because during the contract signing we had paid for everything we agreed to, then once the wedding was wrapping up my husband was told he didn't pay the 150 bar tender fee. Side note, check their hours because it was hard to reach them over the phone when we needed something. We had to call multiple times to even schedule to make payment for our wedding.

I walked in, during typical lunch hours, to about 4 parties ahead of me. I could literally sit in a row of chairs all to myself. Numbers started being called shortly, between to representatives and soon folks were walking out the door. Finally, my number was called and I approached Miranda's desk (window 6). Miranda is no Roz, Monster's Inc. In fact, my 7 minutes spent with Miranda was enjoyable. She kept me informed and looped throughout the entire process. If she was making a copy of my DL... I was aware! :) She even directed me to my next stop for the actual passport. I walked out of that office in a whopping 30 minutes. My parking came out to $7 and I got what I needed without feeling death on my shoulders. Can i guarantee that your visit will go the same? No, but I have no doubt that you'll be taken care of :D
