Walking up i saw a sign that said NO ICE! I decided to go in anyways. They didn't say anything to me. They took my order and brought out my breakfast sandwich. It was tasty, just needed a condiment. We love Forage and come pretty often for bagels and the occasional breakfast sandwich! The salt bagel with veggie cream cheese is my favorite! It has a cute interior with lots of seating and the staff are very friendly. The parking can be a little challenging but not too bad! The only unfortunate thing about this place is the coffee is just not very good. I've tried it a few times and haven't been a fan. The food is amazing though! read more

Cute! Super old building, which apparently you can tour the old original bakery on the bottom floor (according to a sign). Not many choices for food - bacon egg and cheese (lots of bagel choices, no cheese choice, egg either over easy or over hard.) that being said the bagels were amazingggg my bf said it was the second best lox breakfast sandwich he's ever had! It's seat yourself, table was dirty.. oh well. It was over $30 for both of us with drinks, so expensive. But my chai was absolutely next level delicious! I could have taken home a gallon! Do stop in! I hadn't encountered an everything bagel with caraway seeds before ordering a ham egg and cheese on a quiet Friday morning but I now think that it would be improper to refer to a bagel as "everything" without them. I was impressed by the crunch of my bagel, which held up despite a drippy egg conundrum, and is likely a result of the wood-fired brick oven used in the baking process. Had a quick little visit to Forage Market after leaving a dentist appointment near by. This is such a cute little shop. I was craving the cinnamon dolce latte they had for their drink special but due to being pregnant, I try to limit my caffeine intake. The kind woman working was able to make a variation of the drink with half decaf and half regular coffee for me. It was delicious-- not overly sweet at all with the perfect amount of the cinnamon dolce syrup. I wish the market had a bit more options for their lunch menu (only saw a BLT) but I believe it is just limited menu due to Covid currently. (I assume it's the same reason behind there being no indoor seating as well.) Overall, my first experience to Forage was great. Super friendly and accommodating staff in addition to a warm and tasty beverage. A great spot in downtown lewiston. read more

First visit here and I was very impressed. The restaurant is well set up for sidewalk sales with lots of COVID precautions in place. The staff was friendly and service was prompt. I ordered a lox bagel with a sesame bagel and it was fantastic. The bagel was chewy and dense with tons of sesame seeds... just the way I like it. I hate sesame bagels with a skimpy amount of seeds. The lox was from Browne Trading and it was decadent. Add in onions, tomatoes and greens and it was heavenly. Definitely a bit on the expensive side but definitely worth it. I grew up in Lewiston (1970s-80s) and remember when no sandwich shop even close to the likes of Forage existed on Lisbon Street, so I was eager to try it. The atmosphere in Forage is spacious and very relaxed. It's a bit funky, with local art on the walls and all the vintage ('40s and '50s) tables and chairs different from each other. Big windows face two beautiful mosaics across the street, created (2019) in homage to artist Marsden Hartley. The late-19th-century tin ceiling has been preserved. The restroom is attractive and well-maintained. I ordered the smoked whitefish salad sandwich on 7-grain bread. It included very fresh greens, pickled onion, and tomato. A delicious combination! The amount of whitefish was scant but still flavorful enough to make it a real treat. I would order it again. I believe it cost $8 or $8.50 (no sides). My mom ordered a build-your-own bagel (starts at $2.95) with a once-over-easy egg ($1.50), fakin' bacon ($2.75), avocado ($2.00), and one slice of tomato ($1.00). I'll do the math for you and tell you that the total for this BYO bagel was $10.20 (!!). The bagel itself was tasty but incredibly chewy -- distractingly so (As the ingredients spilled out the bagel's sides and she wrestled to take a successful bite, Mom said, "This would *not* be a good first-date sandwich..."). The real turn-off, however (and the reason I have given Forage a two-star review instead of four stars), was that the fakin' bacon and the egg were served very burned -- the fakin' bacon was burnt to a solid-black crisp (I had a sample bite and then picked all the burned bits off for my mom). It is amazing to me that whoever made the sandwich served it this way; if you'd asked them, I am *sure* they would not have eaten it themselves. Was it because it was 2:30 pm and they close at 3:00 pm? No excuses. It's carelessness, for sure. And for $10.20? Wow. Bad news. It makes me not want to go back. Mom's not going back either, and she's the local. read more

We each got lattes and they were served so beautifully in a mug, and I got the forage bagel sandwich. It was so good, just slightly messy, but who cares about that when the flavor is amazing. Seating is limited, so grab a table before you go up to the counter to order. After a business meeting (in which I whined about my lack of caffeine), I was encouraged to check out Forage Market for their "amazing coffee drinks" and "possibly one of the best bagels you'll ever have." How could I NOT check out a place after a pitch like that, eh? When I inquired why their bagels were so amazing, the person responded starry-eyed and drooling a bit, "They make them themselves AND they make their own cream cheese, too!" I was a bit skeptical, because I had previously been to Forage Market years before when they first opened. Truth be told, I was relatively unimpressed with them then (steep prices, haphazard layout, inattentive employees). I'm not sure if they've settled into their space and role in the L/A area or if I'm just less of a curmudgeon now, but... I love this place. I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. I love it so much that I want to drive an hour north out of my way just to come here. Forage Market seems like a warmer version of some of the small, locally-owned grocery boutiques in Portland. It's both inviting and approachable, and boasts a variety of handmade breads, soups, baked goods, and other treats along with fresh produce, a variety of beer options, etc. I had a soy latte and a wood-fired everything bagel with Kalamata olive cream cheese (yes, both are made on site). As I waited, loads of people came through, and the employees knew all of the regulars by name - they even had orders ready to go before some people even asked. I love that attention to detail, consistency, and thoughtfulness. My soy latte was great. Nothing revolutionary, but the espresso seemed perfectly pulled. This will now be my destination in town to grab one. The bagel was also very good - probably the best in the Lewiston/Auburn area actually. It was supremely dense and chewy (my jaw actually ached) and I could have been perfectly content with just half of it - that's how filling it was. They are very heavy-handed on the cream cheese (the Kalamata is tangy and divine); so if you don't like that (I do, so no complaints here) be sure to say something. What do I want to come back for? All the other bagel and cream cheese options. And to try some of their unique lattes. And on Monday, the Falafel Sandwich (Maine made Papous falafel with Israeli chopped salad, shredded carrot pea shoots, and vegan tzatziki on fresh organic ciabatta); on Wednesday, the Beet Burger (house made golden beet veggie burger with whipped feta, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, and spinach with sun dried tomato veganaise on house ciabatta); on Friday, the Tempeh "Chx" Salad (marinated roasted organic tempeh in house veganaise topped wwith local greens on organic wood fired ciabatta); and, early in the morning for their myriad of amazing breakfast sandwich options, and... and... and... I'm so glad places like this are redefining the Lewiston/Auburn area! read more

Well then get yourself over to Forage and try one! So delish especially with the honey lavender cream cheese. I also LOVE a coffee shop that has copious amounts of milk alternatives- soy, almond, coconut, and oat- forage has the works. The bagels are to die for. Experienced the everything bagel with veggie cream cheese for the first time today and it was ultimate. Airy and soft and even had fennel in the seasoning. I'm hooked! Forage also has lots of local kombucha, yogurt and yummy refrigerator items if you need to pick something up quickly without dealing with the grocery store. I've heard the BLT is also great, so I'll have to try that next time. read more

It's national bagel day so we decided to finally stop at the place I've heard has the best bagels in the L/A area. Forage was so much bigger than I had expected and it was really busy! The line was long but it went quick and the menus are in a good place where you can decide while waiting. We decided to share The Squealer on a salt bagel with bacon. It was the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had.. the greens on it added an unexpected freshness and both the bacon and egg were cooked to perfection. It took all my willpower to not order 3 more bagels with a variety of their cream cheeses and a blueberry muffin.. but now I just have an excuse to come back again soon! read more

I'm an attorney and I used to work at the Lewiston Court about ten years ago. When I rushed out for lunch, I always hung a left and frequented the restaurants on that end of Lisbon Street. Today an attorney friend invited me for lunch up the road. She said "Forage has opened back up, let's go there." So there we went. Since I hadn't been there before, I asked at the counter what the closure was about. She told me about the rearranging of the decor and a more intuitive placement of bagels, coffee and other parts of the restaurant. I don't eat bagels, I don't drink coffee, but I really liked the spacious design, the eclectic furnishings, the well-preserved antique architectural elements and the overall feel of the place. It was really a fun place to go for lunch. It was a really cold day, so I ordered the tomato soup (the other soup, a vegan chili, had run out by the time I got there at noon), and went off menu for a grilled cheese sandwich on gf bread, a request they were happy to indulge. The sandwich was really nicely grilled, but somewhat bland, and the soup was very thick - it was really more like a hearty marinara sauce in a bowl than a soup. It was good for dipping the sandwich, though. The highlight was the beverage I ordered - I wanted the golden milk, but they were out. So I asked if they had anything comparable, and they made me a cup of their "chai-like" tea (I forget the name) and steamed it through coconut milk (the choice was cow's milk, almond, soy, coconut or oat) to froth it up, and added a bit of turmeric and a sprinkle of nutmeg and cinnamon on top. WOW. Delicious. And a perfect cuppa for a cold day! I would have loved a few salad options, but it was January - maybe they'll make an appearance in the summer. All in all, a nice experience. Best downtown spot, easy. This place is a diamond in the ruff that is Lewiston. Their bagels are delicious, as are the egg sandwiches. I've had their decaf and normal lattes, both of which are delicious. Next time I'll try the matcha latte. Tons of seating, and they have a small bar! They also have lots of small goodies for sale, including coffee, harabo gummies, chocolate, chips and kombucha. Best coffee shop 20 mins from bates college and I highly recommend. read more
