Let's start at the beginning- Just because the roll-down door is closed doesn't mean the bagel shop is closed. That was my first error as I went by this place a handful of times. It's wasn't until I saw someone emerge from the double doors to the left of the roll-down that I realized that the business was open. Not that they need any help getting people inside (it was HOPPING) but a sandwich board outside perhaps would show that the business is open inside? I went in and immediately everyone was friendly and chipper. Ordering was simple enough but be prepared, they sell through some things, understandably as this place is very popular. I got an espresso and a toasted herb bagel with plain cream cheese. Ive been all over Bath, Brunswick, Rockland, and Camden and was convinced that the New Englander's palates were shot. Not a single business has served me a decent espresso. Not a single one until I stopped at Dutchman's. FINALLY a bright, clean shot that doesn't taste like someone put a cigar out in it. Everyone needs to take notes. THEN we get to the bagel....didn't think I was about to have the best bagel of my life, yet here I am. Light, toasted, slightly chewy but not heavy... jeez. Can we talk about the space? It's gorgeous. Airy, cool, industrial...but the people running it make it feel homey. We can talk about the restaurant they're putting in next door too but let's be realistic, if they use any of the blueprint they're currently operating off of, they're not going to have any issues (Omg the pizza oven!) The view alone will stop you in your tracks. I'm all in on Dutchman's. I bought the merch. This is a cute bagel/coffee shop located in the Fort Andross building (on the back side). I was kind of confused as to where it was based on where my GPS took me, but you can park in the back, or just walk through the building to find it. As soon as I walked up I was bummed to see they had no egg or cheese, which is what I was planning to order. Instead, I went with the Turkey Lurkey. It's not something I'd typically order but it was delicious. It was a bit messy so eating it in the car was a mistake lol. I also got a cold brew coffee. My order was $17 for those two things, which is expensive, but the quality of the food and coffee was very good and I'd much rather give my money to this business than a large corporation like Starbucks. I saw another review give 3 stars because they are comparing their bagels to NY/NJ style bagels. I'm originally from NJ, and yes I prefer those style bagels, but that is NOT what Dutchman's is going for. These are Wood-Fired bagels, and yes they do have a more bread like texture but I thought they were delicious and made for perfect sandwich bagels. Dutchman's was worth the stop while in town. There was a huge line by 9am on Saturday, so clearly it's a favorite among locals. The space is very unique, a very comfortable, open place to enjoy some coffee and a bagel. The bagels were decent for the area, but not my favorite type of bagel (a little bready). I thought it was a little pricey for what I got, but with a line as long as it was, Dutchman's can justify the prices. I'm picky when it comes to bagels, so my rating is reflective of that. I am of the opinion that New York/New Jersey bagels are the pinnacle of the bagel world, and the further away from New York you get, the harder it is to find somewhere that gets close to meeting that standard. I'd still stop by if I'm in town again, as long as I get there before the big morning rush. Not sure it would be worth the 20+ person line. read more

Great sandwiches, great bagels, and nice staff. We stopped in here about an hour from closing and split two different sandwiches: one breakfast and one turkey. Both were delicious and offered the opportunity to try two types of their bagels. The Turkey Lurkey was piled high with turkey and fresh vegetables and paired well with house ranch and a sesame bagel. For the egg and cheese, we opted for the za'atar bagel (and the sauce on the side) and it was great. We ended up leaving as they were cleaning and preparing to close, so they asked if we wanted to take some bagels to go. As I was driving down back to Boston I became hangry and I found this place. The bagels are great with many different options. You can build your own bagel, order the pre-selected. They have great coffee and the service was friendly and efficient. The ambiance is good because there is ample space. They have a full section with unlimited space. The only downside it is the location but you can walk over if you miss the entrance which is right in the construction area but worth the walk. read more

Absolutely the best bagels I have ever had. We typically drive up to Belfast 2-3 times a year from Southern newhampshire (4 hour trip) and always make the point of stopping here. Adding lox is always a great idea for a breakfast sandwich and my personal favorite is the za'ahtar or Italian herb bagel. Traditionally I would always pick an everything bagel but lots the fennel and season on these two more, still cant go wrong with plain or poppy seed if that's your style too. Ironically I think every time we come it takes me 5-10 minutes to process tbe menu but ultimately always get close to the same thing. Bagels so good that you can eat tbem without toasting them, as a 45 year old i never experienced that before coming here. I heard so many good things...friends texting me and seeing the reviews on Yelp, I knew I needed to try it. First of all - The weekends here - OMG - cray cray! If you must stop here on the weekend, I highly recommend you place your order online and bring a lot of patience with you. The parking situation on Saturday with the Winter Market people, made it almost impossible. Luckily after the 3rd round, we found someone was leaving. There is a small lot near the entrance on the river side, however, it is a very sloped and small lot. You may get blocked in by poorly parked vans and large trucks. With that said...I love their bagels! We enjoyed bagel sandwiches and brought a dozen home to share with family. My niece (3) and nephew (5) loved the bagels as well - they each ate their own bagel!! I have had my eye on Dutchman's for quite some time so i would say i went in with high expectations. And i must say..... completely blew me away! First of all the service was amazing, the employees were so helpful with recommendations and really kept those bagel orders cranking out fast. Onto the food, i ordered the garden. I did an everything bagel, horseradish dill cream cheese, pastrami smoked lox, cucumbers, capers, heirloom tomato, and pickles onions AND WOW. This sandwich was absolutely packed, they do not skimp on the fillings which was greatly appreciated. Absolutely every vegetable in that sandwich was so fresh it made such a difference. The lox were incredible but i didn't have doubts about that. The bagel was the perfect texture and i love that the everything bagel is coated all over with seeds. This is definitely the best bagel sandwich i have ever had. Such a spacious interior and plenty of seating with lots of table room to even do some work. I just wish the parking lot was better! I enjoyed the meal, but I was surprised by some items. Keep in mind, it could just be the day. Ordered takeout and ate it right away, I expected my toasted bagel to be hot or warm, but it was room temperature when I picked it up, and I was there when it was ready. My friends and I ate in the car, so it wasn't a matter of it cooling off in transit. I also was surprised by their ingredient placement. While the bagels were large, there's not a ton of room on a bagel, and before I moved everything around, there were chunks that had some meat, no meat, onions, no onions, etc. That being said, you can tell the ingredients are homemade and good quality. Their bodega sauce was a little hard to find, but probably because they loaded it up with garlic herb cream cheese, which was delicious. The bagel itself was great, I got an everything bagel and it wasn't too dense while being nice and filling. Online ordering was ready in 41mins, but only because they are so busy. I did enjoy the meal, but I wasn't wowed by it. It definitely scratches the itch, but there are a lot of great options in Brunswick, so it's hard to say it was great. The hardest part is getting into the lot and figuring out that Dutchman's is in the same location as Nomad Pizza (they use the same wood-fired oven). After that, it's easy (especially if you park in the front lot and go through the main mill building entrance), with an attractive display case or online ordering helping you decide. Plenty of seating. Good coffee. Good lineup of bagel and cream cheese flavors. My Garden State #2 delivered ample cream cheese and even more ample smoked salmon. Nice complementary flavors from pickled onions and capers. Didn't taste as much wood as hoped or as much seasoning on the Everything as hoped, but the bagel itself was solid and the overall composition was very solid. If you can't get NYC bagels, Dutchman's bagels are the next best thing. These wood oven bagels are crisp and sometimes a little charred on the outside and chewy on the inside. They don't have a lot of styles, but the ztar is definitely my favorite and is flavorful without having garlic or onion on them. Staff is great. They also have excellent cream cheese. Warning, they open at 8 and generally sell out before they close. They are open Thursday-Sunday. So get there early or order online. The only disappointment is that you cannot order cream cheese online, so you have to wait in line. It was just announced that they took over the Nomad space, so some of this may change soon, but I am sure the bagels will still be spectacular. read more

Once you're able to actually locate where Dutchman's is (Hint: it's in the Mill building, just park in the lot right in front of the building), follow the signage inside to bring you to delicious wood-fired bagels. My first experience there was a simple plan bagel with house cream cheese as a baseline experience. Clearly fresh and a generous portion of cream cheese on a cute branded paper, I would say Dutchman's is worth the trip to have a fresh bagel. I did try warming up the bagels once I was home and noticed the texture didn't hold up as well as other bagel locations might do). There's a ton of seating in this industrial (but aesthetically pleasing!) looking space. I wasn't sure if I ought to mention this, but I would agree with another customer review: there was someone behind the counter who both times was so miserable that I wondered why the Dutchman team would place this person immediately at the cash register and interacting with customers. I figure some people are just having a bad day! While it won't stop me from going, it's certainly worth mentioning as some guests may take it personally and impact their overall experience. read more

Hello and welcome to my review. Today I will be reviewing.....drumroll please......DUTCHMANS!!! But you probably knew that already (from the title of course-silly goose!) It was a rainy morning as we drove through the fog, five of us all packed in. Weird amount of space when we arrived, would strongly recommend a mural on some of the walls. In the back there are several tables, but not nearly enough to fill the space. I would recommend more fish tanks. Have you ever seen the movie Zootopia? I thought so, sly dog. As there are so many empty rooms, we were thinking that every room could be a biome. Jungle theme anyone? Count me in. My bagel and my girlfriend (birthday!) came fairly quickly. My masculine compatriots, however, had to wait almost thirty minutes! They said they lost the order, or maybe they just don't like testosterone....A little kid was yelling and crying almost the whole time, sitting at the table(more like running around) right next to us. Shut him up, please. The woman who took our order was also very nice, and asked us our favorite movie before going crazy on some water. Some big gulps going on there. Overall, a very solid experience. Some better decorations and timely service would make it five-stars. After reading the write up in a past issue of Downeast, I added Dutchman's to my list of must-try places in Brunswick. It did not disappoint! The bagel was crispy-crunchy on the outside and dense and chewy-soft on the inside. The cream cheese was herby and the perfect complement. I also ordered a cold brew, which was bold and some beans to go. The staff were super friendly and service was fast despite it being a busy Saturday morning. The inside is nice, with ample seating, although I didn't stay to eat this time. It was slightly intimidating to find from the outside of the building, but a helpful video on their instagram page helped me navigate. While their bagels don't quite live up to the ones I ate while living in NYC, they are pretty dang good for Maine bagels. Plus -- they have some decent height to them! They often sell out before their official close time, so be sure to check Dutchman's Instagram account for updates and try to either order ahead online or go before 10:30/11 am to avoid disappointment. I really, really love a good bagel, and, thanks to my granddaughter, I now know that Dutchman's is the place to go. She and I tried to go one day, but it was late in the day and the line was long. I then decided to order online - and yay. Although, I ordered six single, and would have saved a couple of bucks if I'd ordered a half dozen, but couldn't figure out how to do it. The very nice server who handed me my bagels mentioned that, and I let her know that it wasn't easy. EvOr it could have been me. It was easy to park, the people were nice, it was great! Real bagels with flavor. At long last but we need another location closer to Portland/SoPo. Perfect texture. (Hard to find if you don't know but it's in the far back corner of the Cabot mill building wher Frontier used to be. As you face the building go in on the right) by the way burying the poppy bagel in seeds is not exactly authentic and rather messy but I can deal with it. The rosemary are lovely, eager to try more. Next time I hope I can stay there to enjoy on the spot. I'll need to grab at least a half dozen for home (I'll slice in my authentic bagel slicer waiting for perfect bagels then wrap individually and freeze. But of course for many of us fresh and promptly eaten is ideal. And yes I used to live and work in Philly NYC area. We do know true bagels. read more

The bagel itself was very good, as was the whipped cream cheese. Too bad they only had white bagels, no whole wheat or multigrain options. Service was very slow considering there were like 4 or 5 people working. It took 20-30 minutes to get a toasted bagel and it wasn't that crowded at the time. The coffee was good, but cold by the time we received our bagels. I believe their toaster is a major bottleneck in their process - and it doesn't really toast all that well. Great bagel place off downtown Brunswick at the mills. Lines were moderate but they moved. Although, order on line for pickup if you are in a rush.
