Listen to me please if you love your animals with clearly all who care enough to take them to the vet do, this is a wrong choice. Everyone was so nice until that disgusting vet walked in & I already knew something was off. But this guy never even introduced himself or told me his name or asked me what's wrong before he hurt my cat in front of my face! I was in disbelief of what just happened, his lack of care, concern, sympathy, empathy, DECENCY my God I'm still sick over this. My poor cat who was already hurting & terrified never has even been outside before was standing on the table he walked not welcoming or professional at pokes her 3 times in between her eyes before she moves & I'm talking skull tapping taps with a thermometer ( not taking her temp) just hard jabs, naturally she moves jumps off the table, & inside I'm thinking wtf is his deal, then he reaches down grabs my full grown indoor cat who I hold on my shoulder all day like a baby trying to do dishes ect. Lol like she is so sweet & he grabs her by the nape of her neck dangling her 4ft in the air with a fist full of her skin he's squeezing with a fully extended stiff arm & she's squirming everywhere terrified & I am like wtf are you doing what is wrong with you, he then discarded her basically throw dropping her on the table & says she's feral , she's aggressive & feral. I looked at my cat & the fear & sadness in her eyes literally made me grab my baby & tell him I wouldn't leave any living thing in your Care & he tells me you need to leave & I said not fast enough let me tell ya, but you need to be held accountable, I can't even imagine who has suffered by your hands. We've been taking our dogs (pugs) and cats to this clinic for 33 years. Unlike most vet clinics now that overcharge and oversell services, I appreciate Doc's straight forward and honest approach to care. They are extremely busy and can be difficult to get into on short notice because of all the people that adopted pets during the pandemic overwhelming all vet clinics. Wish I could give negative stars. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!! We had just moved to Winlock (2023) and this was the only vet who could fit us in quickly. Took 2 of our cats: one was skinny, not eating well the other had a bare patch on his back. I'm guessing all stress related due to the move. Remund was very rough, didn't introduce himself to the cats, just stuck a thermometer in the first one's rear and yes she yelped. He wasn't personable, didn't ask the right questions, didn't take time to get to the know the cats or us. The whole time we were there he kept pushing an expensive flea control med that we didn't want. I kept repeating that we are happy with the topical that we're using. He decided to sell us that flea med anyways and a dewormer for the first cat (they didn't have worms) and a steroid for the second cat. We never received the steroid and I didn't want the flea med and they didn't give the right number of dewormer pills. I don't care if this is the only clinic with an emergency service I'll drive to Seattle if I have to in an emergency. I will NEVER go here again. I have never posted a review of any business or service, but my father (75) asked me to warn everyone about Fords Prairie Butcher Shop, aka Fords Prairie Animal Clinic. His words. The short story is... they killed my dad's cat. On Monday, April 3, 2023, my dad brought in his long-haired orange tabby, Sam (age 3) to have some mats cut/shaved because my dad couldn't brush them out. Sam is a bit high-strung, very anxious, and does not like to be brushed. It stressed my dad to inflict pain and discomfort upon his otherwise healthy companion. I suggested that he take Sam to a groomer, and I have to live with my guilt. Dad couldn't find a groomer to take Sam because he was too aggressive. My dad was told to find a vet to have it done, so Sam could be sedated. Unfortunately for Sam and my dad, Fords Prairie Animal Clinic was the closest place to their house in Rochester. Dr. Robert Redmund said he wouldn't treat Sam unless he was caught up on all of his shots and only if dad allowed Sam to be neutered. My dad thought that sounded reasonable, so he agreed. The procedure was supposed to take some time so dad was told to leave Sam overnight, and pick him up at 10:00 the next morning. My dad said he could hear Sam wailing and growling in the back, but he agreed and went home. He regrets that decision and may never get over feeling guilty for it. The next day, they picked Sam up from Fords Prairie. They cut his hair like a lion, but Sam was lethargic & had bruises all over his body. Dr. Redmund said that was normal because he gave Sam a 3-day time-release pain medication, so he would be like that for a couple of days & not to let him drink too much water. At home, Sam remained motionless. He could barely lift his head and it kept falling in the water dish. Dad called Fords Prairie the next morning and told them Sam wasn't okay. They said to bring him back so he did. Dr. Redmund tried telling my dad that Sam wasn't like that when they released him the day before. My dad became angry and told Dr. Redmund that Sam was exactly this way when they picked him up, and reminded him about giving Sam time-release pain meds and saying not to let him drink too much water. Dr. Redmund said he would give Sam a catheter and put him on an IV. He told my dad to give him a couple of days. Dr. Redmund made some unusual comments to my father about Sam being overweight, saying Sam was an older cat and his kidneys were failing. BACKGROUND: This is how my dad knew exactly how old Sam was. On October 21, 2019, Sam and another kitten were abandoned on my dad's porch when they were just a few hours old. My dad bottle fed the kittens every few hours trying to save their lives. Sadly, the other kitten died within a few days. That whole week, dad called for status reports and tried to visit but was brushed off until finally, he was told to come in at 9:30 Friday morning. Dad was almost to the clinic when Dr. Redmund called at 9:00 am to report that Sam didn't make it. My dad arrived within 10 minutes of the call and demanded to see Sam. Surprisingly, Sam was wet, wrapped in a plastic bag, and had already started to become stiff. Dad asked when Sam died, and Dr. Redmund said he passed that morning. If that were true, why was he already stiff and why was he wet and wrapped in plastic? They hadn't even bothered to remove the catheter or IV from his body! My dad asked the doctor for an explanation and Dr. Redmund again said Sam's kidneys failed, said he was overweight, and was much older than 3. He tried to pass responsibility for Sam's death on to my father! Then he said, "Well, he was a mean cat anyway. He even bit you." Dad wanted to take Sam home to bury him, and paid the final bill which was now over $600! Looking at the charges, they billed for Sam's annual license & tags, (which they gave to my dad with the bill), all of Sam's required shots/vaccines, the sedation haircut, forced castration, ICU stay, and new patient visit. My dad brought his cat to Fords Prairie for a haircut. Now, Sam is dead and Dr. Redmund has no explanation for how or when he died. This clinic should be shut down. Please do not allow this quack anywhere near your pets. Our next step will be filing a complaint with the Department of Health, in hopes of preventing anyone else from going through the terrible ordeal my dad experienced. read more

My elderly cat needed a booster shot. No big deal. With very little introduction the Vet pinned her down and administered the shot. I've never heard our cat yowl like that followed by growls and hissing. This was not her first time at a veterinarian's office but it WILL be her last to Fords Prairie Animal Clinic. Dear Fords Prairie veterinarian: My dog died in my arms tonight. Forty five minutes after you told me to call you back if she still wasn't responsive and I told you I'd had to give her CPR to get her breathing again. Two hours after I called you and said she couldn't breathe. That her condition was worse. Three hours after you told me she was healthy and not to worry. 24 hours after you assured my husband that if it were your dog, you wouldn't bother with the expense of labs. $492 later you sent him home with a pile of medication, no written instructions, no directions on what to do if she got worse, no offer of hospitalization. You brushed us off, delayed treatment, and when we insisted on bringing her in for emergency care, you took your time. She died in my arms on the way to your clinic. You weren't even there when we got there. Then you blamed her, and lied to our faces about giving us options when none were ever given. Maybe you assumed we didn't have money because my husband was in his work clothes. Maybe we didn't matter because we weren't already established clients. Whatever you thought, the bottom line is that you have terrible bedside manner and you failed our dog. Maybe she would have died anyway, even if you HAD offered hospitalization, even if you HAD told us to bring her back in right away instead of putting us off. Maybe we would have spent thousands of dollars and she still might have died. But we'll never know now. read more

I am also not one to write awful reviews, but in this case, it is an absolute necessity. On Saturday, I took my 1.5 year old Tuxedo kitty up to this place to follow up on what I knew was some kind of bladder or urinary infection based on his behaviors. Initially, I must admit to being thankful that immediate space was made to evaluate Mr. Fozzy. However, it would tank from there. Dr. Redmund manhandled the guys belly, gave him his updated shots, tried to sell me a $65 bag of cat food (the only appropriate thing he did) told me he wasn't blocked and gave him an "attitude adjustment" narcotic and sent us home. A few hours later, I noticed significant change in my cat; I called this man the next morning to which I was dismissed, strongly encouraged to "continue giving him the medication, it will make him seem depressed but he's fine." I did this Sunday morning. And for all intents and purposes, at this time, my cat was dying. Thankfully, I regained my better judgment and took our guy up to my previous veterinarian who immediately referred to Olympia Pet Emergency, where Mr. Fozzy remains in what amounts to the ICU with a "Critical Blockage" which would have ended his life by this afternoon at best. To say that I would strongly advise that you move on and away from even considering this place would not even cover the pain, anger and the cost to save our pet's life after this incompetent jackass told me he was "fine". Seems to be mixed reviews but I'd figure I'd add my negative one as well. Our cat enjoyed drinking stuff that wasn't water and licked up some stuff that gave him a parasite that gave him diarrhea and pee blood. After a short inspection of the cat and a longer seemingly rant about random stuff induced by ketamine I can only assume he gave us pills... yeah didn't work. Gave us different pills... yeah didn't work. Took him to another vet, gave him a blood test, found the cause, gave him meds for the test results, cured... Crazy! We call him Dr. Death as he is great at putting your pets to sleep when his prognosis don't do the trick and if you care about your pets take them to chehalis or anywhere else. I took my 17-year-old cat there because he had been losing weight. The vet treated him roughly and brusquely, almost brutally. He managed to make my sweet lovable old kitty cat growl and snarl, and get really upset. He took him to draw blood and came back and said my frail old 11-pound geriatric cat had gotten the better of him and he couldn't draw blood. He offered to put my good old buddy to "sleep" for no particular reason. The needed blood test didn't happen, but they charged me anyway, without doing anything to help. Now I'm without $150, and I still need to find a vet for my cat. If you love your pets, keep them away from these crazy people! read more

My family and I have gone to Dr. Remund for 20+ years. Always helpful with the health of our pets. Tests are done there, so it's really nice to get results as soon as possible. No problems with spays and neuters, our pets are back to normal quickly! Also had to call for a farm call for my family's sheep and he was on time and was able to fix the problem quickly. Technicians are helpful as well. Showing my dad how to re bandage so it would make it easier to do at home. Prices are good, very understanding of budgets. My Yorkie started throwing up and not eating. I called her regular vet who couldn't see her for a week. I called the pet ER who stated I would have to wait for up to 6 hours to be seen. Neither was an option for me. FPAC was kind enough to get me right in. He gave her something for vomiting. Two nights later she started having bloody diarrhea. I once again called her regular vet who now states they can't see her until August 16th. FPAC was kind enough to give me antibiotics for her current condition. Yesterday my daughter had an apt. to put her dog down. She and her friend went their for a very emotional event. Dr. Remund gave nor offered them any sedative to give to the dog prior to the shot. He yelled at her friend for not holding the dog still while he administered the shot. Her dog was blind and had no idea what was happening. My daughters last memory of her dog is him crying. this vet needs to be put out of service and is only getting a one cuz there is no 0. read more

I have been taking my pets to Ford's Prairie Animal Clinic for years. Dr. Brett Bower is welcoming, warm, helpful, and gentle towards my animals. It's obvious that she truly cares about your pet's well-being. However, she no longer works at Ford' Prairie Animal Clinic. Ever since Dr. Bower left I've been consistently disappointed with the clinic. Dr. Robert Remund is cold, and was actually very rude to me on one occasion when I was inquiring about oral flea medicine for my dog. He seemed very irritated that I wanted a prescription to purchase Comfortis online (for convenience and cost). My brother had a similar experience when he went to the clinic concerned about a tumor on his dog (who is like a child to him) and Dr. Remund blatantly unconcerned, told him most likely it will end up cancerous and he will pass within a couple years. The staff up front has been extremely unhelpful as well. I've explained to them on multiple occasions that they have the wrong name and contact information for my pets. This has still been unresolved. When I had my dog neutered, I went to pick him up the next morning and they tried sending me home with someone else's cat. My dog had been there multiple times in the months leading up to this incident for vaccinations and well-visits. Not to mention, I dealt with the very same lady the day before when dropping my dog off. If they cared about their relationships with their customers & patients, they should have known which pet was mine, or at the very least they could have looked at the chart. Another time, I watched a man bring his elderly dog in to have it put down, and while filling out the paperwork and making his payment another lady was unsympathetic and all business. I almost cried for the man, as he struggled to find it in himself to say goodbye to his friend one last time and the lady just hauled him away. Dr. Remund may be a "good" veterinarian, but I wouldn't recommend his office if you want any compassion for your pets or appreciation for your business. I will not be returning. read more

Took my kitten here to get his ears and chin checked out. The doctor spent no time actually evaluating my cat, he said my kittens chin problem was flea poop and that he would check his ears for ear mites. I thoroughly questioned him about the flea poop idea because i didn't think my cat had fleas and he insisted he did without looking any further. He didn't even bother to clean my cats chin, and he never came back to tell me the results of the ear mite test. I got a second opinion on everything and just as i told him.. he did not have fleas and it turned out to be kitty acne. My cat was also visibly terrified and on edge when being evaluated and the doctor was patting him hard on the head. Any animal person would know not to treat a scared animal that way. Overall a bad experience as i didn't feel comfortable with the way my kitten was being handled, as well as having to get a second opinion on everything because the evaluation seemed so off. i would not recommend this place. not to mention the older receptionist is not nice. read more

I really need to leave a review for this veterinarian clinic. It is the worst I have ever been to. The receptionist at the desk has no compassion for people calling about bringing there sick and dying animals in. It was "doubled booked" just about everytime I called. Even when I needed to put my beautiful muffin cat down because both the vets saw her and didn't have a clue what was wrong. I can't believe when an animal first comes in with an eating problem you wouldn't look at the digestive tract first before anything else. I brought my girl in twice because she was starving to death and all they did was concentrate on other things that could possibly be wrong and just couldn't figure why her tests came back okay but was starving and not eating. My poor girl was so skinny and dying when I noticed her stomach was growing even though she was fading. When I brought this to Dr. Remund attention he finally felt her tummy and saw she had a major mass in their. Probably cancer. I asked how him and his college could have missed that and he said that everyone makes mistakes and that he has missed things like that too and animals have died. Could not believe what he was saying. I had to have her put down and he was very uncompassionate and talked to me about his latest vacation and his mother dying while hurting my muffin with this huge syringe in her skinny little arm in order to put her down fast. I am so mad at myself for not reading the reviews about this horrible vet office before I brought her in. I would never have done it if I would have known. Please don't bring your pet to this vet office. I am very broken hearted about this. My poor muffin. I hope someday she will forgive me for the horrible treatment she received. read more

I have rarely completed an online review however I feel compelled to do so after our experience with Dr. Robert Remund over Easter weekend. Our young cat developed an abscess at which time I called our normal veterinary office. They could not squeeze her in as they were overbooked. We took her to Ford's Prairie Animal Clinic. Dr. Remund scarcely looked at her wound and spent the majority of our time talking about immigrants and illegals. In the process of the visit he called my children parasites and swore in front of them. His recommendation was to drain her absess and keep her until Monday. It was Saturday 10:15am at this point. I asked if we could please take her home after as he confirmed she'd be alone for 2 nights as it was the weekend. He refused my request which I understood as this was his policy and what he thought best for her. He stated he didn't know when he'd get to her procedure since he had other appointments throughout the day. I told him I felt that my hands were tied as there were no other clinics available to see her that day and it was indeed an urgent situation. He pressured me that it was the right and ONLY thing to do.. and in the moment I went against my instinct and signed the permission slip to treat. My children and I left in tears. After calling my husband from the car, he called the clinic within 15 minutes (at most) of us leaving. He told the staff to stop all treatment and he'd be there immediately to take her. Dr Remund got on the phone and told my husband the procedure was done and we couldn't touch her. No way could he have shaved her, sedated her and drained her absess!! My husband let loose on him regarding his behavior during the visit and the vet denied it all. We were in shock and felt absolutely helpless! After a sleepless night, my daughter and I decided to drive over there to see if anybody was in the office at all. We were going to beg at this point to have her cat back. Sure enough he was there trimming the trees and we walked up to him as nervous as we were and asked him to please consider "out of the kindness of his heart" to release our kitty to us as it was Easter and we wanted her with us. He refused to release her to us on the grounds that my husband called and said some pretty terrible things to him. At this point I honestly didn't even know if our cat was alive or if she had been well taken care of. At this time I felt that I couldn't trust him at all since he had lied so many times throughout this experience. We returned the next morning and other than him giving her an immunization that I had I told him not to give her and clearly starving for food and affection, she seemed fine. I truly felt like my cat was being held hostage because he was prideful and an arrogant ass quite frankly. We will never return there and I will never recommend anybody to this Clinic. The visit was so surreal as he seemed over the top narcissistic and delusional quite frankly. read more

I called after hours with an emergency and the vet was extremely rude and when asked if there was anywhere he knew of closer to my location I could go to since it was an emergency and I live 40 minutes away he laughed at me and said "that was for me to find out." A simple "no I don't know of anywhere" would have been sufficient. He didnt have to be so insensitive. The remark led me to believe he possibly knew of places closer but just wouldn't say, which is definitely not in the best interest of the animal. I would hope a veterinarian would always have the best interest of the animal in mind but thats not the case at Ford's Prairie Vet; at least not when you have an emergency and need it the most!! read more

I was in Safeway in Centralia on Saturday, and heard two women talking about Dr. Remund. I used to go there, so I hung my ears over my shoulders and listened. I must have missed the main part of the conversation, but one of them said that she wouldn't be going back there, and that Remund was 'creepy'. That's what I remember about him, too. That, and how he took x-rays of my old cat and said she had stones in her bladder that needed to be surgically removed. The day after the surgery, I went in to pick her up. A technician or someone gave me the news that my little furrpurrson hadn't had any bladder stones. Anesthesia and surgery and a sore tummy, and there hadn't been a problem. Remund was nowhere in sight. Yes, they did charge me for the surgery. No, I didn't go back. It took her about three weeks to get back to normal. Every so often I check his reviews. If you look at the bottom of these reviews, you will see a clickable line that says "5 other reviews that are not currently recommended". Guess why?............... And for those who don't keep up with the local news, maybe you didn't see the bit where Remund was charged with 'unprofessional conduct' (multiple counts) by the Washington State Dept of Health (they oversee both human and vet medical personnel). Yesterday while driving with my sister a little orange kitten was hit on Harrison just up the road from Fords Prairie vet clinic. The little guy was still alive and still fighting. We quickly drove him to the vet clinic and because he was a stray and we didn't have the money to pay them. They wouldn't even touch him. They had no compassion for this little fur baby. We ended up driving him all the way to the Olympia animals services and they took him without question. Sadly he was put down because he had to many injuries, but I thought people should know that Fords Prairie doesn't seem to be a good vet. When knowing there was nowhere close to take the kitten to save him. ( it was 4:02 when we got to the vet and the no kill shelter was all ready closed. ) You know how a community treats its members by how it treats the ones that cant take care of themselves and I would never take one of my animals to a place that was concerned more about money than about the care of an animal. No I know that money doesn't grow on trees, but they could be had done a lot of things differently. They are not somewhere I would take any of my pets. read more

I took my cat to this animal clinic to get fixed. Just a simple procedure that should have had no complications. Well I get my cat back from the vet and he has one of the WORST kitty coughs you will ever hear. My heart is broken. I called the vet about possibly getting a free exam because it's their fault my poor kitty is sick with what it looks like kennel cough (not asking for free treatment just the exam) and they refused to call me back. I won't be taking my cats here anymore. I could've gotten low income vet assistance to get my kitty fixed for less but I wanted to make sure he got good treatment and a good experience. I got the opposite. My cat is so sick I'm devastated. Not to mention my mom took her two cats there and now their also sick with what appears to be the same thing. We can barley afford to treat them all. And also when I called trying to voice that they got my poor kitty sick they lady's were extremely rude. I paid in cash for one of my moms cats and mine and the lady was still rude and didn't want to hear that they were doing something wrong in the vet. There's something wrong I don't think their cleaning out the cages right. I don't think the doctor really cares about animals and is just in it for the money, holding sick animals as collateral for payment when their owners are distressed is also wrong. I think this is has to be the worst vet I'm so disappointed I wish I would've taken my poor cat somewhere else. read more

I will not be returning to this clinic - ever. Dr. Remund was very unprofessional when I brought my sick cat to him. He used foul language while conducting his examination and looked as though he'd never heard of a comb. He vanished from the room and returned with a colossal list of tests he said should be conducted on my cat - to the tune of $485. When it became obvious I wasn't prepared to pay that kind of money, he relented, saying he could start with a couple of things that wouldn't be so expensive, yet he still charged me $228 to run a blood test?! And my daughter and I were able to overhear his staff asking, "So.....blood work, that's got to do with the blood, right?" Um......... I probably should have headed for the door and searched for any other vet then and there, but I didn't. The vet returned to inform me I could take my cat home for a couple of days, but there was no hope for her; she was going to die, and that was that. He never showed me the test he supposedly conducted, never explained what he felt was wrong, just told me she was going to die, and I only had a couple of days left with her. Well, this was over a month ago, and my cat has returned to normal. She seems to have recovered from this fatal illness Dr. Remund predicted, somehow. So, heads up, people...don't bother going to this clinic, unless you are prepared for heartless, unprofessional, excessively expensive, and completely wrong treatment of you and your beloved animals.
