The pizza was amazingly good for the location. Definitely worth trying. The Shed is built with repurposed shipping containers and well executed. The washroom was well heated and comfortable. Stepping into others' imprinted snow footsteps trying not to slip and fall onto the newly fallen snow, we made it into Cafe Crema in West Vancouver. The first thing with this place that gets you is the vibe. Mood lighting, lovely high tables and plenty of space. You can sit there, and daydreaming in this place is highly encouraged preferably with a glass of bold red and a slice of Margherita Pizza. I didn't really know what I wanted, which rarely happens, but this was one of those special occasions where you just let spontaneity take over. I was going to just have a coffee, but as I approached the register area to order my Americano, I kept seeing this glimmer in the corner of my eye. It was quite bright, but just a glimmer, so I looked over and it was just this muffin sitting there in the display. I asked the cashier what muffin that was, and I was told that it was the Vegan Banana Chocolate Muffin. "Vegan?" I asked. He said, "Yup." I almost walked away trying to find something else, but the damn thing looked so good. So, reluctantly I decided to try a Vegan Muffin. I said to myself, "well, what's the worst that could happen? I'll just throw it out if I don't like it." That winking-luring Vegan muffin was so good that it actually trumped many of the dairy based muffins I've had in the past. I'll tell you how and why. First, it was rich, creamy, dense, moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. You could taste the Cocoa and hint of Banana and nuts throughout. As much as all the ingredients together gave the muffin its wonderful taste, you could also taste each component individually. I don't have a sweet tooth at all, and it's rare to find me ordering desert or eating muffins. I ate this damn thing like I just discovered the taste of sweet for the first time. Between this awesome Vegan muffin, the great Americano and this cozy little lamp on the table and the beautiful glowing white snow on Bellevue Drive, this indeed was a memorable experience and a one time love affair with a Vegan Muffin. Sorry Starbucks...you are further away from ferry terminal and you also have a bad reputation for selling foods with toxic chemical ingredients... therefore, boycott continues. I like Blenz not only because it's 100% Canadian. Also, I appreciate that they serve organic whole-leaf teas that are thoughtfully sourced from around the world -- as a tea lover, i like to drink whole-leaf healthy teas. I buy Blenz teas because it's a brand that I can trust to have natural teas that are ethically traded, and free from artificial flavours and fillers.

The person taking our order offered little help in the way of ingredients, so we rolled the dice and got the Bombay Wrap on a whim. It was one of the few savory vegetarian lunch items. Thankfully it was quite good! The cashier was friendly, and the barista made an excellent oat milk matcha latte. I wish I'd gone with a larger size so I could have enjoyed it longer. All in all a good experience.

I really wanted to try one of the chicken dishes, but I'm not into thighs; I know they're trendy but I hate the texture. So I went for the Buddha Bowl, which was an amazing combination of spicy rice, stewed chickpeas, and fresh vegetables with an avocado-lime dressing. Oh my goodness, it was so interesting and delicious! My husband got the fried chicken bites with two different dipping sauces and loved them. My toddler requested avocado toast, so rather than ordering the $19 entree that came with fancy toppings she wouldn't eat, I asked for a side of toast, a side of avocado and a lemon wedge. She loved it, especially paired with a mango smoothie. Our server, whose name I sadly don't remember, was so . . . normal. She did not seat us directly in the blinding sunlight when there were tons of empty tables in the shade, or say "I'll be right back" and then disappear, or try to talk us into eating dessert at the table because it would be too hard to pack it up for us. (All of those things happened at other restaurants on the island that same week.) She was just genuinely interested in making our experience pleasant, which made it truly wonderful. Bonus: they have a stash of fleece blankets for the outside seats, which is perfect for overcast days.
