It was my first time exchanging money myself. Usually I just exchange it at my local chase bank branch, but I was running late and saw all the good reviews here and I completely agree with everyone. I came to exchange my dollars for Japanese Yen and I had no experience in buying or selling currency. I quickly googled the exchange rate and it was 113 yen per dollar. At this place they gave it to me for 112 yen per dollar. I'm incredibly surprised at how good the exchange rate was at this place and will definitely be back. The guy that helped me was really friendly and validated my parking (which was free after the vakidation). There wasn't anyone there when I went in at around 1pm and so I didn't wait in line. I work in the heart of Downtown LA and after searching for all the local places here to buy Mexican Pesos, Foreign Currency Express seems to have the best rates for this area. I've gone as far as Broadway and 8th streets and those other places give less pesos for the US dollar. I've even gone to the place in the Biltmore Hotel and they also give less than FCE. I need Yen for my trip so I called serval places for the exchange rate. Yup, yelp reviewers are right that this is the best rate ( just 2 yen off per dollar from current rate with no fee). As usual, I did get lost in downtown but finally found their parking spot. The exchange transition was super fast. I see other reviewers complaint about their parking situation but c'on ppl - you cant have everything. I parked at their spot and able to get out from parking for free with their 15min validation. My friend made the trip for us before our trip. I researched many different locations to change USD to Euro. This place had the best rates. I called and wrote to them on yelp and they responded very quickly. No fee, so easy. Parking is easy as long as you can follow the directions to the free 15 minute parking space they own. The storefront is tiny and depressing but the lady inside is cheerful and helpful. They even exchange Euro coins, for a fee, but not other coins, so just give them away before you leave that country. read more

I just read the negative reviews and think that the customers who do not like the service needed to ask more questions to ensure they were getting the right rate (buy versus sell) and securing it. The woman in line ahead of me was confused about the buy versus the sell rate and the agent was very patient and explained the difference a couple of times. I've been using this place since the early 90s. For years, it was located next door in the Bonaventure Hotel, but moved into the World Trade Center. The service has always been excellent. I have gotten money for countries around the world. I like to arrive into a country with some money on me and especially since many times I'm arriving, very jet lagged, off of 18-24 hour flights, and around midnight or later. Upon landing, I just want to be able to get my transportation and be off to either my rented apartment or hotel. Michelle White, the manager, is great. For years, I've just called her ahead of time and told her what I needed and how much I needed and she would have the money counted out and packaged and ready for me when I got there. The last time I was there was in the fall of 2009. Many years ago, one time I couldn't get there by closing, so Michelle stayed after hours until I got there. I had been to another exchange place, in Glendale, to get $40.00 worth of foreign money. But, the exchange place, in Glendale, wouldn't accept my money. They hinted that it was counterfeit. HUH? I had JUST left my bank and withdrawn the money needed for my trip and took the SAME money that I had JUST withdrawn to the Glendale money exchange place. So, there I stood with no foreign money and then the place closed for the day. I think they just wanted to go home. I then drove home and called Foreign Currency Express. When I got there, the foreign money was waiting for me. And my original money wasn't counterfeit! read more

I went there earlier today to get Euros because of the great reviews on Yelp and was disappointed because: 1. the parking at the WTC was $4 instead of $1.50 because the guy was alone in the office and took phone calls while I was waiting at his window and therefore cost me time and money; 2. I had called beforehand and told him I wanted small denominations and he said he had them and then he didn't (I called at 9:30AM and arrived at 11AM); the conversion rate was lousy. Like everyone said, parking is a pain around this area, but I figured, good review touting great exchange rates - maybe it was worth the parking ha$$les? Boy was I wrong! I just got ripped off at this place exchanging US dollars for Canadian dollars! Today's exchange rate for Canadian dollars is 1 US dollar = 1.02205 Canadian dollars. This place that so many others touted as such a good deal? Sold me at a rate of 1 US dollar = 0.98 Canadian dollars. That's right! Nearly 5% lower than the market. So, of course they don't charge a fee, or a commission - they don't have to because they get you on the rate! Granted, it's my mistake for trusting the yelp reviews without looking closer before I buy.
