Recently, I came into Forest Family Dentistry and was greeted with care and compassion from the receptionist. She listened to what I felt was wrong, went to the back to tell the doctor, and Dr. Dara immediately took me in to check on my tooth. We took X-rays and found a fracture in my molar. Dr. Dara told me my options (root canal & crown or tooth extraction) and allowed me time to process. No pressure. We scheduled for me to come in a week later to do either procedure I would choose. My tooth began to give me a little more pain so I decided to have my tooth extracted and Dr. Dara was able to fit me in a few days earlier. Before starting the procedure, Dr. Dara prepared me by thoroughly explaining step by step what he would be doing. During the procedure, he would constantly check to see how I was doing and communicated what step he was at in the procedure. The extraction went very well. Yes, he applied pressure when he needed to. No, there was no pain because of the local anesthesia. After, Dr. Dara explained what I needed to do for recovery and asked me to come in if I feel anything was wrong. If you're looking for a dental office who are thorough, no pressure approach, and lead with care, come into Forest Family Dentistry. * Just FYI, this is a very busy office for good reason. Both Dr. Shervin and his son Dr. Dara are very likable, personable people. My first few appointments with Dr. Dara to fill cavities went fine. Dr. Shervin did my root canal and I came in for one of four appointments to complete that singular root canal, and he almost started injecting me on the wrong side of my mouth for ANOTHER root canal that I did not need. Not only did I not need a root canal, the tooth he was referencing was actually a cavity that had already been filled by his son weeks prior. I asked if he just maybe didn't look at the x-ray images and he responded "haha we don't take x-rays every time. It was my notes I should have looked at." And he said all of this without taking any accountability for the fact that he almost started drilling into my mouth without referencing the notes that clearly show this tooth has been done. He glazed right over it. I'm so glad I asked what we're doing that day, as he had his injection in hand ready to start on a tooth that needed no work, even though I assumed we had an understanding that we were continuing work on the same root canal. I've been horrified that this happened ever since. I'm not sure how an experienced dentist 1) doesn't look at his notes before starting a major procedure and 2) doesn't communicate what he's doing with the patient until the patient specifically asks. The lack of communication has happened multiple times, I come in and I don't know what they're going to do. I've been to a handful of dentists in my life and I've never had to wonder what the procedure of the day was. I came in for one final appointment to get my permanent crown on the root canal tooth and I called ahead of time to make sure that the crown had come in, since it has to be custom ordered and I don't want to be in a situation again where Dr. Shervin starts doing a filling or other procedure that is not the permanent crown. I'm coming in for the crown, I called ahead to make sure they had it. The lady who picked up the phone laughed at me and said "why, did Dr say it wouldn't come in? If it's a crown appointment then you're getting the crown." Keep in mind, I'm not a Karen and I hate confrontation. I called ahead specifically SO I wouldn't have to confront Dr. Shervin in person if he didn't have the crown. I could just reschedule or they could call me when it comes in. I asked very nicely if the crown had come in, and that was the front desk lady's response to me. I explained that I called because Dr had almost performed an unnecessary root canal on me last time without checking his notes, and she didn't offer an apology or empathy whatsoever. She said "yeah it's a crown appointment" and that was the end of the conversation. Dr. Shervin is also oddly affectionate. I'm a girl in my twenties so maybe this isn't everyone's experience, but it's left me puzzled so I thought I'd mention it. He compliments my eyes and calls them/me as a whole beautiful almost every appointment - I come in wearing baggy oversized clothing, I'm not asking for this. He's also leaned down and put his face against my forehead and honestly, I chalked it up to cultural differences. I believe Dr. Shervin is Iranian and I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe that's more common in that culture. However, the more I think about it the more I realize that no, that's not professional behavior and it's worth addressing. My own parents are Indian immigrants and I can't imagine them doing/saying these things to strangers at work. Take that with a grain of salt, maybe I'm wrong and it's purely cultural differences. TLDR, I'm extremely disappointed and I'm switching dentists. I'm doing this without drama, I'm not even telling Dr. Shervin I'm switching dentists because I just want out of here. I can't have a dentist who is this careless and I won't force myself to deal with rude receptionists. I wish I had known this kind of experience was possible at this office before coming in at all, which is why I'm writing this review. I hope it's helpful to someone. read more

I got blessed to find my new dental office at Forest Family Dentistry. Dr. Dara has been exceptionally helpful since day 1 and I've felt comfortable & at ease going to see him. I've had a few fillings done with him & a partial root canal / root removal that I had to get done out of emergency because of the level of pain I was in-- (I finished the root canal today with a endo specialist as I had to see a specialist for my super curved root) he took me last minute and did me a big favor and it relieved a lot of pain & severe distress for me, I look forward to keep going to Dr. Dara and keeping my teeth healthy & strong. The reason I had to get the root canal in the first place is because I had neglected the tooth for a long time after it had cracked & I genuinely should have gotten it fixed sooner. 5 years, I held off going to the dentist because I was afraid. Doctor Shervin is magic. He is safety. He is the most caring person that makes your inner child feel so loved and safe. I had a cavity I had to fill, he made sure that I was very comfortable. He does not rush into anything. He takes his time and he makes sure that it is painless as possible. I want to emphasize that there is no pain no pain at all, and that is because of this man's energy is filled with love and lightness that fill you up with strength and courage. What. A. Joke. This dentist has gone completely downhill the last few years. My family and I have been making the commute here from SD county for years because we have had a hard time finding a reliable honest local dentist. Months ago, the last time I was in I had a filling that needed to be done. I came and got the filling and had an allergic reaction 3 times to the filling and what I was injected with. Each time they were pretty dismissive of it even though it was their mistake each time. I then called again to make my next routine cleaning appointment. Once again they had the wrong insurance on file and I had to have them update it. They were supposed to reach out to say the insurance was set to go but never did so I had to call again (last time they got it wrong 3 times and it took so long to get it through). Today was my appointment at 3pm and it was my final straw. There was a ton of traffic on the 5 as one would expect, so I left giving myself over an hour. However, between construction and accidents I would end up being there just about ten minutes late. At 3:08 I get a call from them that they are not going to take me anymore. I explained how far my drive is and that I am in the parking lot about to head in. I can not even count how many times I have waited for them, even as long as an hour or more when I was on time or early. I have even threatened to leave due to their constant negligence on respecting appointment times. I am without words being within ten minutes late for them to say they can not honor my appointment despite them more often than not being late and being late by quite some time. I can no longer justify coming back here. Between the drive, terrible customer service and poor quality of service...I'm not sure when this place started to go downhill but they are no where near what they used to be. My whole family has been seeing Dr. Shervin since I was a kid. I'm all grown up, moved further away, and still choose to make the drive. It's important to have a dentist that does good work (which he does), but also someone who is kind and personable. He's practically family at this point. It had been a few years since my previous cleaning, so I was well overdue~about 3 years (but I take good care of my teeth on my own). I rarely get cavities and know I'm not a dentists dream customer. That said, he'd done 2 prior root canals for me years back, and a few fillings. This review is specifically regarding my visit a month ago for a simple routine cleaning, and my follow up visit today to try to rectify the damage done. Unfortunately this is not a positive review, and is a great example of how "technology" can effect business negatively. It's also about having tech's that lack the required training, and using tools that can damage teeth. Businesses change too, as well as the people in it. He's always had this one gal (a bit older now) do my cleanings, and for over 20 years she strictly used a dental hand scalpel. Now she uses what is called a Cavitron Ultrasound machine to do most of my cleaning. Right away I was nervous about it, as it seemed to vibrate a lot, and felt highly abrasive. While doing my bottom row of teeth I saw a look of panic in her eye, and she called out Shervin's name. I thought i'd heard a strange noise, but Shervin never came and she just continued on. I didn't feel any pain so I just rolled with it~my mistake and I immediately should've asked for a mirror. This is definitely the precise moment when my tooth got chipped! Never again will I let anyone use a Cavitron tool on my teeth! After the cleaning, Shervin did the normal post exam and reviewed my X-rays. He said I have 1 cavity on a wisdom tooth, but didn't mention that his technician had accidentally chipped one of my lower front teeth with the Cavitron Tool. I was never offered a mirror to see my new clean teeth. From my picture I've posted, you'll notice that I have 1 lower front tooth that sticks out a bit, it was pushed out by my wisdom teeth when I was in my 20's. Its the one that got chipped. His Tech chopped 1/16th of an inch from the height of what the tooth used to be. Also the tooth is now jagged along the top (not matching any of my other bottom front teeth), and angles in differently than before. It's also very white along the top of this tooth, to the point where the color is much whiter than my other teeth~cuz it's a fresh chop!!! When I got home that day I noticed the chipped tooth when I looked in the mirror. I called the very next day and spoke to one of his office gal's (the nicer one with brown hair), and told her that the Tech had chipped my tooth during the cleaning with the Cavitron machine. She asked if I still wanted to come for the filling in a month, and I said yes but that l want Shervin to fix my tooth that his Tech chipped, and she said okay and that she'd jot it down. I actually told her to tell Shervin what had happened too. Today I went back in. They only wanted to talk about me getting the filling. At no point did they acknowledge what I'd discussed with the office gal about them chipping my tooth. Suddenly now I have a brand new technician who has never worked on my teeth before. The Tech who'd chipped my tooth was nowhere in sight. I told the new Tech that i'm holding off on the filling, and that I want Shervin to try to fix up the chip as much as possible (not really possible to do much as once 1/16th of an inch of tooth is gone, it's gone). Shervin then came in and of course he only wanted to talk about the filling scheduled. I told him that the filing is off the table and that I want my tooth fixed that his Tech had chipped. At no point would he acknowledge that his Tech chipped my tooth with the Cavitron machine. He actually tried to sell me and he put some weird little wax strip on top of the tooth and had me bite. He then said "you see, that's the normal angle of your tooth"!?!?!? A Jedi mind trick of some sort? Really we only needed to review the 20 full mouth X-rays that i'd paid for and were taken before the cleaning. These digital X-rays/images were right on the screen in front of us, but conveniently the image of my lower teeth was cut off well below the tips of my lower teeth so was unusable as proof! There were many other X-rays taken years back and we could've reviewed those too! Definitely a cover up. The number one thing for me in a dentist is trust. That required trust is now gone. In parting I'd say the Cavitron machine is quicker for them, but as a customer I'd say that it's not as thorough as the hand scalpel. I'd say about a 1/2 hour difference. So yes they can push more cattle through the line and in a quicker fashion. The downside is that if you're chipping customers teeth you're then losing your client base, losing referrals, and getting bad Yelp reviews. It was an extremely disappointing experience to say the least!! I'd been going to Dr Shervin since the mid 90's with no prior bad experiences. Insurance-wise they won't take yours unless its PPO or cash. hmo won't work for them. read more

I've been with them for 15+ years now and I can say this with the utmost honestly, Dr. K is my guardian angel! All the staff members, from Sherry the technician to the wonderful ladies who coordinate the front-desk, strive to make you forget its the dentist and make you feel like you're with family. They always told me the truth, best prices for the services, let me know what to expect, never tries to 'sell' anything. She is all about Your health and well-being. Example: I have a fear of needles, and until age 14 I never used novocaine because of it. Dr. K actually broke that fear with her gentle hands. It felt like a hair was caught on my gums, then a few minutes later I was completely numb and able to do the crown without flinching. you guys lied, so i need to tell everybody that their service is bad. I am amazed how many reviewers here know how to spell doctors' last name. I am sure you are neither his family or buddies. First all, the x-ray technician is not well trained and it is PAINFUL. I never had such a painful x-ray before. Second, their hygienist refused to rinse my mouth while working on my teeth. said she is not comfortable to do that. the most rediculous hygienist i've ever met. I've been going to Dr. Shervin for as long as I can remember. Maybe 15 years +? He is amazing. Somehow he always remembers me and is always extremely pleasant and funny. He is as gentle as they come and has made even my cavity-filling experiences fun! The only caveat I have would be his office staff. I found Dr. Shervin Ahmadnia on Yelp when my dentist was unavailble I had had a tooth that was really hurting. I called the office, explained my situation and they saw me 2 hours later. Everyone was so nice and Dr. Ahmadnia was all about making sure I wasnt in pain. I am so happy and relieved that I finally found a genuine and knowledgable dentist after searching through a handful of different doctors for my 16 yrs old son.
