One of the most consistent places around for real bbq, above average brisket and pork along with excellent sides. One of my favorite stops.

When you walk into Johnny's you kinda feel like you've been transported back to the good ole days when you were a kid. It's the same. It's comfort. You walk in, they take your order at the counter, you pay at the register (cash only but ATM on site), you give them your name and go find a table. Once your name is called you head back up to the counter to grab your food. It's just a cool, back in the day vibe. Your order comes on a standard red tray. Which is an added touch I just love. The owners are the same family owners since the beginning and I LOVE THAT! I love the food but I could not eat it everyday. Well, then again, maybe I could. I always order 1 with E. Which is one texas hot with everything. I add the texas fries to my order and I'm a happy girl. You CAN NOT do JAMESTOWN or LUCY'S HOMETOWN (her childhood home is down the street) without a visit to the Famous Johnny's Lunch!

I have so many fond memories of meals in the classic diner - hot dogs, burgers, root beer floats, milkshakes and fries - everything on the menu just hits and is so comforting. Despite busy lunch rushes, the staff at always greet you with a smile and work quickly to deliver your order. There is a reason this small family run restaurant has thrived for decades and it is a must stop for everyone visiting Lakewood.

We typically always order the New York style hot dogs - mustard, onions, chili, and pickles. The potato salad which reminds me of my mother's. They do have other options for lunch and breakfast. I can always count on a smiling face and the ladies are always giving great service. The price point is good here.

My best comparison is that it tasted like a hotdog you'd get at the concession stand at a high school football game. The hotdog looked and tasted like a standard Oscar Meyer, the bun like Wonderbread, there was almost no chili on it. They truly made no effort to make it taste good. My wife got a Chicago dog. I'm not sure any part of it resembled a true Chicago dog. The fries were McDonald's style, They were OK but not quite as good as McDonalds. My wife asked for cheese on hers. They slapped a piece of American cheese over top the fries. That's a first for me. The only good part of the experience came at the end. We were waiting for our check (no one told us you have to go up front) when a younger waitress came over and was very friendly, as was the owner who was there at the counter. The bill came in at an affordable price too. I don't enjoy giving such poor reviews, but I don't think it matters here. These guys obviously have a loyal, regular clientele. They cater to them and not intruders like us.
