Homemade egg sandwich on a plain bagel
    Charles E.

I'm very picky about my bagels when it comes to size, texture, chew, taste, and how well they hold up in sandwich form. I've gone to many bagel shops in the boroughs and on long island in my decades of New York living. Forest Hills Bagels is one of my go-to spots. The only knocks I have are some of the bagels aren't consistent in shape and when the server blindly gives me one of the misshapen bagels. Otherwise, they are solid bagels and they even have a juice bar for those into a healthier lifestyle. They're renovated the inside relatively recently and it's a nice upgrade

This bagel shop felt like an authentic NYC bagel shop, not a social media famous spot. There was only a few seats, so this is more of a grab and go kind of place. On the weekend, there was everyone from moms with kids to individuals there wanting to grab bagels. This spot was bustling. It wasn't too crowded and while there wasn't a wait to order, there was a bit of a wait for our orders. I ordered the toasted Everything Bagel with Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese. Although the Chocolate Chip Cream Cheese was good, it felt more of a dessert filling than a sweet cream cheese. The Everything Bagel itself was perfect, chewy and soft at the same time.

Got a couple of moldy bagels the first time we came here :( The place is located in a weird place by the side of the blvd too, not easy to walk to

Forest Hills Bagels is really great and I am glad that they are open 365 days a week (albeit I hold their employees get vacation too everyone needs it). This place deserves all the hype that it gets- it's solid fresh bagels at fantastic prices, what's not to love? They also don't skimp on the lox and capers if you order a classic lox bagel and you can tell the salmon is fresh quality. Coffee could be better but I could care less about that to be honest. Every employee is super nice too despite how busy it gets. All in all, I will seemingly always go to Forest Hills Bagels whenever I'm in the area (and rightfully so)!

I stopped by Sunday afternoon, and I could tell this was a neighborhood favorite because the parking lot was packed. Fortunately, it is a high-traffic area so you will not have to wait long for a parking space. I ordered a sesame bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese ($5) and a toasted egg bagel with butter ($2.50). These bagels are definitely on the softer and fluffier side and while they lack that thick crust, I thought they were very easy and delicious to eat. I wasn't a fan of the sundried tomato cream cheese though, as it had a strange chalky mouthfeel.

I'm a fan! This is a real NYC bagel spot. We got a sesame bagel with egg and cheese, everything bagel with 2 eggs, cheese, HASH BROWNS, and a plain bagel with scallion cream cheese. It was so good, this place deserves a higher rating than what it has in my opinion. Service was attentive, fast, and delicious. Iced coffee also hit the spot, what more can you ask for?

if you have dietary restrictions do NOT order from this place. I haven't eaten meat since 2007 and i ordered an avocado, egg, and cheese on a bagel via Grub Hub. I got my order and it had meat that i NEVER asked for on this. I could get sick if i eat this. i dont even understand how this happened. It was my first time ordering and NEVER again.

    Can you spot the bacon?

Ordered an BEC w/ s,p ketchup and I go to eat and it literally looks like only two pieces of bacon was slapped on there. I paid close to $10 for this! Smh never again!

I really enjoyed lunch at this place! They've recently rebranded to Austin Street Cafe/Bar & Grill…read more- and they have a sort of diner-esque vibe with a full-service bar ($7 happy hour cocktails!!!) They started us off with a croissant on the house, which was pretty good. Nice attention to detail as it was served with a heart-shaped side of butter. Also part of their happy hour menu are a couple select bar bites. I went for the chicken quesadillas, and it was a hearty portion at their price point. And it had a great flavor - chicken was nice and juicy. Natalie was our server, and was very attentive and friendly throughout our time here. And just when we thought it couldn't get better, Natalie and the manager brought us some cookies on the house to take home. Nothing but praise to be sung about this spot - I hear they're looking into possibly incorporating live music next. Will definitely be back - two thumbs up!

I heard him making jokes with customers and asking people for feedback. Now to the rest of it: service is weird and slow. When we were seated, we had to wait a little bit until receiving menus. Water wasn't automatically given to us also, so you have to ask. A woman took down our order, but later asked if we got waffles, even though I said pancakes - overall took 25 minutes to get our order of a salad and pancakes. Pancake platter came with two pancakes, two eggs, and a couple berries on the side. There's also an option to add sausage or bacon but no price there, which adds to the confusion. When we pointed it out, they removed the charge from our bill. There were maybe 3 people who stood behind the coffee bar which is kind of around a corner, making it hard to get service if you're not in their field of vision. Kind of strange there isn't a clear welcoming desk or something like that. Also, I think the menu uses AI as photos - there's a picture of a burger with fries and chips, but I don't think they serve chips. There's also a picture of cake with garlic next to it, which could be an artistic choice. We didn't get any drinks, but there was a table next to us who abandoned their full cups of Nutella lattes which was interesting.

In addition to the AMAZING BRANZINO, we enjoyed steak frites, oxtail croquettes, fried calamari and a Boston wedge salad. Everything was amazing and delicious. The calamari has a sweet honey sauce drizzled on it. The salad was fresh and crisp, delicious dressing and crispy bacon included. We were very full but there's always room for dessert. The Food The cooking…read morehere is the real thing -- not the flattened, one-note version of Indian food that so many places settle for, where everything arrives tasting vaguely of the same sauce. At Tikka n' Talk, the spicing has genuine architecture. Each dish has its own personality, its own balance, its own arc from first bite to last. You taste individual spices rather than a generic wall of heat, and there's a depth underneath that only comes from someone who actually knows what they're doing. The tikka is outstanding and lives up to the name -- properly charred at the edges, smoky from real high-heat cooking, and still tender inside. That combination is harder to pull off than it looks, and getting it right every time takes skill. The curries have body and complexity. Sauces that have clearly been built rather than assembled, with layers that reveal themselves as you eat. Nothing is greasy, nothing is heavy in the bad way, and nothing tastes like it came out of a can. The bread deserves its own mention. Fresh, blistered, warm -- the kind you keep tearing off pieces of long after you're full. The Room and the Service The name isn't accidental. This is a place designed for lingering, and the atmosphere delivers on it. Warm, comfortable, and genuinely welcoming without being fussy. It's the kind of room where conversation flows easily, where you settle in without noticing an hour has passed. The staff are a huge part of that. Warm, attentive without hovering, and clearly happy you came. They know the menu cold and will steer you well if you ask -- including on spice levels, which they'll actually calibrate to what you want rather than defaulting to whatever's easiest. That kind of care shows up everywhere in the experience. Food comes out hot, timed well, and exactly as ordered. Basic things, but plenty of places fail at them. The Bottom Line Tikka n' Talk is the rare restaurant that's excellent on every axis at once -- the cooking is skilled, the room is inviting, and the people running it obviously care. It's become a regular for us, and I recommend it without hesitation to anyone who asks where to eat. If you haven't been, go. Order more than you think you need. Stay a while -- the name is an instruction, and it's good advice. Highest possible recommendation.

I ordered the goat curry special which came with a side of dal, bread rice and a sweet kulab gaman for $17.
