I would give a zero if I could. This is absolutely the worst funeral home ever. My mother passed in January and they never ordered her memorial tablet (headstone that goes on the memorial wall inside of a mausoleum). An item which they wanted immediate payment for and still have yet to deliver. Please do not choose this place to service you and your family. Losing a love one is devastating and during a time like that you want people that are caring and compassionate and this place is not it. It all started with a discussion about where Michael Jackson was buried - which is here. And that lead to finding out about the other celebrities who chose this lovely place - most notably, Walt Disney. So please - make time to stop here if you are in LA or traveling on the I-5! And the best thing - it is free! When you check in with the security guards, please ask them for a map. The 10 miles of roads in Forest Lawn bend and twist and it's easy to get turned around. I recommend at least a day since The Hall of the Crucifixion and Resurrection (built in the 1940s and dedicated in 1951) and the Forest Lawn Museum (opened in 1952) take about an hour and there are several exhibits that require at least a 25 minute block of time. Forest Lawn isn't just a cemetery. Currently it has exhibits of Legos, art work, Arts & Crafts furniture - hardly things you would expect at a cemetery! Am I right? And did I mention it was free and Disney is buried there? But don't expect to see Michael's grave. His mausoleum is off limits except to other people with loved ones buried near him. read more

Beautiful location for a wedding (no, I am not joking). My husband and I were married here in 2006. Many people don't realize this but people have been getting married at Forest Lawn since the 1930s. They have gorgeous chapels that are modeled after historical chapels in Europe. We got married at the Wee Kirk 'O the Heather chapel, which was gorgeous and pretty inexpensive, considering how expensive most places in Los Angeles are! It felt like we were in Europe and was not creepy at all. It is truly a hidden gem and I highly recommend anyone who is planning on getting married in the Los Angeles area to consider checking out Forest Lawn. The only weird part about it is telling people that you got married in a cemetery. ;) read more

My former boss is buried here and thousand of people come here to see where he was buried. The stories about him being frozen under an amusement park is all a myth. It is not easy to find but I think they want it that way. My partner and I came to Los Angeles for the first time and I was looking forward to visiting this cemetery. I must say it is a STUNNING place, from their views, to the way it's kept impeccable, it's definitely a work of art on its own. I loved how heavenly it feels there, the views alone are breathtaking. The following is the reason why I am ONLY leaving them a star. I must say I was beyond disappointed with the fact I was not allowed to visit Jean Harlow's grave who is One of my favorite actresses of all time. I waited almost 29 years to finally make it to L.A & looked beyond forward to at least viewing her grave & paying my respects but the security guard didn't allow me to. I felt like almost begging her but then I realized I should never have to do that. I understand that no photography is allowed & it wasn't even about taking a selfie or none of that but no matter what I left that mausoleum heartbroken & with tears in my eyes. I was not able neither to visit other golden Hollywood era celebrity graves & pay my respects because the doors where they were laid to rest are locked. It's really annoying for us "Fans" of these Big Hollywood stars to not be able to visit their graves at least since some of us were not born when they lived. read more

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL guests service and security supervisor. I drove 4hours to visit my Hmong General Vang Pao that accordingly to ABC30 and CBS News he is buried there at Forest Lawn, Glendale California. I drove into the cemetery for the first time and it was busy with cars coming in and out. I drove up to the information front office window and asked do I need to pay, and is there alot of celebrities here or something because it's busy for a cemetery? The lady in the front, I didn't get her name told me yes there are some celebrities so if you walk around you might run into a few. After that I asked her if it's OK for me to fly my drone here and I have my license. She doesn't have a yes or no answer besides I'm not too sure but it's a private property so the security might tell you something. I got the whole conversation on video with my gopro as I'm excited to visit General Vang Pao for the first time and creating my video for recreation purposes. I drove off and realized I don't have alot of time as it's my last day before returning home. So I decided to come back around and asked the lady where can I find General Vang Pao so I don't waste time driving around. She drew out a map with lot number and its in garden of honor section. Then she told me I'll need to go to the lobby to get a key. So I went there and pick up a key. As I'm heading to the section I realized a security was following me and there was also another one at the section waiting for me. Soon as I parked and got out with my flowers, gopro, and drone case the security approached me and said drones are not allowed so I simply said that's fine and putting it back away. He then said Catherine at the lobby wants to speak with me about my visit for me to return back to the lobby. As soon as I got back inside the lobby and asked for Catherine. Deborah at guest service came up to me with no respect and demand for the key back then said I lied that I don't have any love ones there. That my reason there was to take videos of celebrities grave site and they don't allow videos. Catherine along with Deborah said I lied about General Vang pao that he's not there and they can't find who I'm asking for. I explained myself that it's a misunderstanding because I asked the lady in the front why is it so busy, is it because of celebrities? And I don't know their policy so I asked politely are we able to fly drones here ? They didn't want to listen to what i have to say and told me to leave the property and security will escort me out. This is INSANE. Very unprofessional how Deborah and Catherine handled the suitation. I left the property and called to speak to a manager about the suitation but was told that there are no managers on site on the weekends so they can't do anything about it. Again, I'm 4hours away and I came to visit and got mistreated at Forest Lawn by guest services. So I called the international number on site to help me with the suitation and the lady name Monica transferred me to Nick, the security supervisor on site. Even more unprofessional how Nick as a supervisor security handled the situation. He told me over the phone that they do not tolerate with arguments and that my wife was arguing with them when my wife has never come in contact or speak with anyone on property. That's a BIG LIE and falsely accused because I have everything on camera. Then he said they don't allow drones so I told him I didn't know the policy that's why I asked. Then he asked me what do I want from him? At this point I realized no one is going to have any real professional guests service skills to help me out. So I'm filing a complaint on Deborah, Catherine and Nick for such a poor job on handling guest service with the international as I don't know if any management or president at this specific location can help me out. Who can I contact on site? Deborah and Catherine could've went over the policy with me about no drones or videos allow then we all go on with our day. But I believe they expect guests to know their policy before entering and mistreat guests. read more

I was here with my mom few weeks ago for our neighbors mom's funeral. Let me tell you something, I like it!! The church looks so white and more like heavenly not like scary. There are few churches here, not just one and they are all unique in their own way. You drive up and down the hills and it's just like a huge park. It's been a little over a year since the passing of my brother in which, UNFORTUNATELY, the funeral arranger that we had was beyond terrible. Ms. Maricar Lavarro! **Ask for someone else if you get her!!! You CAN ask for a different arranger!!** I leave this review because I see that we aren't the only family who had a poor experience with her and it needs to stop! Forest Lawn reps., I know you see these reviews... do something about it please. I work at a funeral home with families and the whole time I found myself saying "I would never do this to ANY family I'm taking care of." Here are a few of the worst moments: On the day we went in to sign paperwork 1. She had us waiting for her to finish with a family for about an hour (we had an appointment). 2. She was not prepared. 3. When my mom would ask about what words like "embalming" meant she looked at her like she was crazy for not knowing. 3. She was not explaining the forms she was asking my mom to sign. THANKFULLY, I go over these exact forms with my families so I was able to explain to my mom what the forms and words meant. We were there for over 4hrs!! AND she still forgot to have us sign a form so she email it to me to sign. What made our family the most upset was when she insisted on the viewing service to be the night before between I forgot the time it would start but it would end at 7pm. I explained that my parents and I wouldn't be able to make it until 6pm because of our work schedules and I asked to have it the day of the burial in the morning. She said it wasn't possible but I asked her to call and see what was the earliest we can do the viewing on the day of the burial. She said she'd call be back, at about 4:30pm I had not gotten a call back so I called her and she said she spoke to the guy who works in the morgue and he said the date and time we wanted weren't available- I didn't believe her (she had such a bad attitude very dismissive since the start). I decided to call myself and I spoke to a very nice guy in the morgue who said the date and time WERE AVAILABLE and he didn't recall anyone calling him that day to ask about it. I explained the situation and he said to call her back and let her know it's available and that it'll be scheduled. She LIED! To say the least she was not happy when I called her to give her the news... at that point I asked her, "is there someone else who can help me? I don't want to speak with you anymore." She said there wasn't so I said, "fine transfer me to your assistant because I'm done talking to you. You have been no help and our family doesn't want you as an arranger anymore." Thankfully I didn't speak to her again. From that point forward we only spoke to the assistants. Thank God she wasn't present the day of the service!! I feel like I was pretty much the arranger for my brothers case, as I was making all the calls to the coroner for release, the morgue for scheduling, asking for fingerprints (cause she didn't notify my family of that service). This isn't a service that you can just say "sorry we'll do better next time. Or, sorry here's $10 off." During the hardest time a parent and a sibling could go through you provided the worst experience imaginable. With your poor attitude, dismissiveness, tardiness, lack of attentiveness (before I asked for someone new), maybe it's time for a change in job cause this isn't for you Ms. Lavarro!! She has no compassion and that's not something that can be taught, training won't fix her poor service. Forest Lawn, maybe it's time to take action with this arranger, don't you think? Two families have complained and who knows how many others there are who haven't spoken up about her because this memory is too painful. read more

When I made my Yelp account I never thought I'd ever review a cemetery! I don't get creeped out like some visiting cemeteries, death is a natural part of life. I find cemeteries to be serene and peaceful and Forest Lawn is no different. I come here to visit my grandfather. As weird as it sounds, I look forward to coming here. It's a surreal experience! It isn't a sad experience, he's in a better place and I get to enjoy the beautiful grounds. From the entrance gates to the statues and fountains, you'll feel like a million bucks just being on the premises. When you're here it's hard to believe you're in the middle of a hectic metropolis. Unfortunately, I just come here to visit so I can't say anything about the services or facilities. Even if you don't know anyone here it's still a great place to visit. Gosh, what can I say about this place? It's the nicest cemetery you will find yourself in LA. It's so nice, I want to come for a jog.. daily. It's not at all scary, like the cemeteries you saw growing up in movies. It's very expensive to have loved ones here. I'd say this place is top of the line. You're pretty much paying for the convenience of keeping loved ones close, what with the price of real estate in LA. This place is a prime location, a short drive from Hollywood Hills and Los Feliz. There's always security making their rounds. I get approached by staff members who ask me from time to time, if everything is ok with the way they're taking care of things. The place used to be greener until the recent water shortage scare and all, but for the most part, it's very well maintained and I only have good things to say about this place. I visit about once a month, and have been going for more than 5 years. read more

When you are gripped with grief and can not think straight, the last thing you need are people and events that would take you to the brink of no return. But the outstanding service from The staff of Forest Lawn specially Leticia, Emily Edge, mortician Mike Hernandez, counselor Sandra, Gabriel at the crematorium, Robert Wehrle - all lifted my family's sorrowful spirits. They were very attentive, friendly, professional and accommodating. Many of our extra requests were granted very willingly. Though a little expensive, Forest Lawn Glendale's ambience was very elegant and so comforting. I'd only be going out to Glendale for 1 of 2 reasons. Either seein' my sweet dear Grandma at Forest Lawn or hanging out with someone who is Armenian. Since I don't have any friends with the last name that ends with "ian" or "yan" in Glendale. I guess all clues will point to the former. Location: Glendale, California (LOTS OF ARMENIANS!) I don't go to many memorial parks often but this one holds a very special place in my heart. I really enjoy the lay-out and it's pretty tranquil. It's ginourmous. Even if you were tryin' a tank I would imagine that you would find a hard time findin' the exit if you were drivin' aimlessly around. However, just look at the signs. To steal from Marjan G. "It's very Green, very peaceful and very well-kept"... Very well said. **The only thing that I'm not a fan about is that you're unable to burn money in a can. I understand due to safety regulations it's probably not the best idea..... However, in a lot of Chinese families we burn items in a can/pot to show respect: Fake Money, model planes, houses, coins.... These items are burned so that the loved one can use these items to in the afterlife. *If you drive aimlessly around of if you're tryin' to relive the "Beat it" days. the King of Pop is buried here and you can see a wide variety of flowers, notes, and posters dedicated to the King. ** There is a flower shop near by Forest Lawn or you can purchases flowers by the main gate. ***I make it a point to go at least twice a year. There are nine Forest Lawn cemeteries in metro L.A., but this is the oldest and the biggest (it must also certainly be the most beautiful [we visited the Hollywood cemetery many years ago and it was certainly pretty, but it can't compare to this one]). Tucked into the oddest place in Glendale, south of the 210 and west of the 2, it's actually amazingly beautiful once inside. It's winding roads and beautiful views are amazing. My grandfather was just buried here, and as hard as it is to lose a loved one, I felt at peace here. I think the next time I come back I might also do some walking around, there are many beautiful headstones, and grave sites. It doesn't look like much from the street, but I was pleasantly surprised by the tranquility it has to offer. RIP Gramps. We miss you, but we know we'll be with you again one day. XO read more

Our entire service for our grandmother was purely transactional to them and proves that death is all about the money. Staff was in a rush to finish up our graveside service so that they can probably be onto the next one. They didn't give folks enough time to get seated and situated before they already began the funeral. They didn't even have our flowers or photo of her set up yet by her gravesite yet did it DURING the funeral. Staff had their walkie talkies going off. Pulled up the truck to begin the burial before the family even had time to lay a flower on the casket. How are we supposed to grieve during such a vulnerable time when there was such a disregard? The only reason we had her funeral here was because she bought her plot 30 years ago and wanted to be by her late husband. Otherwise, I would never utilize them for services again. read more

This place is beautiful but the customer service and the way they deal with issues is awful. My family has a love one here we bring new batch of flower's every weekend. As February we've notice the flowers and base was "stolen" , so we reached out to maintenance and someone up in management about our flower and base being "stolen" they told me they'd look into it and so the following week we brought a new base and flower. Maintenance guy saw us setting up the new flowers /base and we asked if it was OK to have our base and flower their he had no problem , cool. Months passed by ! We've had multiple bases and flowers gone , i reached out to management and the to some nice ladies on the front desk. They had no answer for me , it wasn't until recently that I really had to find out the supervisor in charge of the maintenance that I had an answer. She said that we weren't allowed to have personal bases and flowers , so all this time they just been tossing out our bases and flowers for our love ones. I'm disappointed on how she handled the whole issue , she was the least apologetic and more along the line of the policies they have there. My family could have been OK with someone letting us know of the beginning especially when we had security guards , maintenance, and even management know about our base and flowers. This was drag on for way to long and flowers and bases that were thrown out only because management did not train their associates on their rules. I'm extremely disappointed. read more

I went to FLG this morning to the Great Mausoleum to take flowers to my friend/father for his birthday. Roger picked out this niche in 1984 and was very proud to know that's where his final resting place would be. As his NOK/only family. I did just that and he left me the niche to use for others if needed. He paid for 12 burial rights. I'm not a fan of the corporate owned cemetery/mortuaries. They upsale so much crap to the families. Been in the funeral industries over 20 years so I know the routine. I deal with families everyday at my cemetery. If I had talked to anyone the way the security talked to me this morning. My boss would have reprimanded me. I rang the intercom at the door where his niche is (Holy Spirit) and then was questioned with the tone of basicly "What do you want." I stated my name, whom I was visiting and the location. She asked me who I was and was I related. Yes I'm his daughter. (I am his only living NOK/POA) and property owner. She asked me twice who I was visiting and spell the name. And then she asked me again how am I related. It just wasn't the questions that ticked me off. It was the condesending why she spoke to me. And then she told me not to wonder around and buzzed me in. I proceeded to get my vases and arrange my flowers and sit for a bit and visit my friend. It was his birthday today. Yes I know Michael Jackson is entombed in the great mausoleum. And I could give a flying F. But have some sympathy for your other families who came visit their loved ones. And Forest Lawn train your damn employees to have a little empathy for the families. And I get that you have the crazy fans who try to get in and visit him. And your trying to protect the beauty of the mausoleum and artwork. This has been a rough year for all of us. Even as a funeral employee we have been worked into the ground with Covid deaths and burials. And yes most of us are little on edge. But have some flipping manners and empathy for others. I would never question a family like I was questioned today. By the time I left I was pissed off by the spanish inquisition I got from your security. I don't know what her name was but I would talk to your security team and give them a little training to be a little nicer to people. There are so many people in this world who have lost a loved one. Take a step back, because a kind word goes a long way. You catch more flies with sugar then vinegar. read more

I am giving an update to my last post one month ago about my father. His location was unclear from the negligence of Forest Lawn and their employees. Their management team has absolutely NO follow up at all. Met with Angie Ray , the VP over a month ago and she promised to personally see this through. I have received no called or indication anything has been done. 9 months later, my father still has no plaque for his "niche". It's just a blank box. I was there yesterday and the flowers and flag was gone I left just a week before. They were fake flowers! No need to come down at all, let alone a week later. And the flowers promised from FL for my dad on Vets day? Never happened!! I realize Forest Lawn does not need business, it comes to them naturally. There is no sense of urgency to the "passing" as let's face it, they are gone. But what about the families left behind? For such a beautiful peace place, their unprofessional staff has made this nothing but a stressful heartless experience. And they offered my mom $250.00 for the inconvenience. Are you kidding me??!! No money could replace what I have been through and having to tell my 87 year old mother. read more

Paying a tribute to Michael Jackson was the reason why I first began coming to this cemetery. It has been many visits and eventually I realized that Forest Lawn Memorial Glendale is even more than a dear resting place - it's somewhat profoundly moving, enriching experience just to be here for a couple of hours, in these beautiful surroundings. I am a visitor from Northern CA. And it was pleasant to find out that there are some local Michael's fans that come here regularly - just to sit there on the bench outside of Holly Terrace, talk and chill out at the end of a day... I met two nice beautiful ladies in such circumstance during my last visit to Michael's resting place at 2015 Thanksgiving. Amazing that still so many want to come and greet Michael Jackson, and leave him a message... There was a couple of times when I had to turn to staff at the main office for assistance. The reception girls were always exceptionally polite, positive and helpful - whether was it a question about directions or a restroom request. All the premises are very well maintained. This beautiful place has some positive enriching energy, not very common for such places as cemetery.. read more

Dealing with the passing of a loved one is difficult in itself, so it helped that the service and quality of care provided by Forest Lawn Glendale was extraordinary. It should be noted that my loved one, or grandmother, had previously purchased her burial plot and funeral services with Forest Lawn Glendale many years in advance. When our Forest Lawn advisor, Jean Kim, met with my family and I, she patiently went into detail explaining the prior arrangements, and never once tried to upsell. In addition to being organized and detail oriented, Jean was compassionate and personable. We walked away from the meeting with having made only a few adjustments, but this was done either on our own accord (wanting to enhance a detail) or because of changes incurred over time (taxes and clergy fees). I'd also like to recognize a night attendant for Forest Lawn Glendale, David Guerrero, who assisted on two different occasions. David was always personable and eager to help. The outcome of both my grandmother's viewing and funeral services at Forest Lawn Glendale was beautiful. First off, they did an amazing job primping my grandmother for her open casket. She looked exquisite and as if she was sleeping peacefully. As for the services, every detail was fully executed and all went as planned. The services definitely would have been to my grandmother's standards, and had been a celebration of life that she would have been proud to be the center of. read more

I just happened to be in Glendale area for auto service when I realize that Forest Lawn is nearby. I have a relative who is buried there in the 80's and just thinking of checking his grave. First of all, I forgot that the cemetery property is sprawling huge and located on the hills, so I thought I'm going to ask information for the location of his grave. Forest Lawn often ridiculed as the dead people Disneyland due to manicured state and numerous copies of European buildings, landmarks and statues like David, Moses and many others. Since the size itself was overwhelming, I decided to head to the Great Mausoleum (another copy of a building in Italy). There's no clear marking on where or if parking is allowed so I parked on one of the green painted curb, assuming it's the parking. I went to the mausoleum and there's a security guard. She was asking if this is the first time I visited this place, I said yes, and she gave me direction of where the main attraction is, the Last Supper window. I actually asked her where my relative is located and she found it on the computer. She also told me that Forest Lawn has a GPS to locate the grave. I think that is cool. The girl DID NOT DISCLOSE to me the one rule in Forest Lawn that a lot of people might miss. They are ALLERGIC to people taking pictures inside buildings. So I went my merry way to look at crypts and some real size copies of Michelangelo sculptures like the Pieta and the Medici tombs. I found the Last Supper stained glass windows and start taking picture of it, when the girl suddenly appeared and asked me to leave. Before I asked why, she said that picture taking is not allowed. I was going to asked her where the sign but my mood is already distraught. (Mind you, barely a month since I lost my partner and buried him, so my emotion is still raw). I saw a dinky notice, looks handwritten by the entrance, which easily missed about the prohibition of picture taking. As an art and architecture enthusiast, I always like to take picture to document, as I already seen all the ORIGINAL sculptures in Rome and Florence and the Last Supper itself in Milan. Even at the Milan Duomo, I got yelled at because I took picture of the interior without paying for the permit (of course the notice on is in Italian!) BUT I never treated like a criminal in Italy for taking pictures. AT LEAST they have guard you can ask or signs indicating just that. She can just told me that picture taking is prohibited and please refrain from it. Instead, I was escorted out. It feels like I'm going to vandalize the place, or maybe they 're afraid Michelangelo and Leonardo's descendants will sue them for copyright infringements and for making such tacky copies? I hope they will! After that incident, I was going to leave immediately, but then, since I'm there might as well try to locate the grave and pay my respect to my cousin for the last time because this will be my last time stepping into any Forest Lawn. Using the map and the GPS, I found many of the roads are blocked and the only way to go the grave is climbing the very steep hill and then still have to look around. I had enough of this place and headed for the exit. The place is very well manicured but it's has no character and felt phoney/fake. At that time, I felt relieved that I buried my love in a Catholic cemetery, because I know their properties are consecrated and there's a mass offered daily for the repose of the departed. They might not as manicured as FL but at least they have character. Also knowing the segregation history of FL, I will stipulate in my will, that hell will freeze over first before they put my remain in any of their properties, or I will haunt my relative forever. read more

The cemetery itself is tranquil. Just make sure you do your business directly with the company. While it should not be something to gawk over, this cemetery is very much a must-see in LA. It's gorgeously morbid and invokes uncontrollable emotional bursts at the thought of lovers, family, etc. buried or cremated together, for eternity. Supremely ornate, lush and spacious, and an overall beaut, not to mention a killer view. read more

My farther passed away in February and I notified FL of his passing the same day. Someone by the name of Joanna contacted me and we started planning out the funeral service. I told them that I already had a different mortuary pick up my father(because their prices are outrageous!) I was told that we needed to fill out paperwork which I completed and sent on Feb 18th(a 6 day turnaround from when we got it...because heaven forbid that we're mourning the loss of the patriarch of our family!) So I don't receive any email to confirm receipt of the documents but I figured it might be cuz of covid. I was having a hard time coordinating a day for the viewing, church service, and the funeral to take place so I asked Joanna if it would be possible to use one of their churches and she said "since you didn't use our mortuary then you can't use the churches"...wtf!? Because I decided to save myself $5k in mortuary fees they refused to help me by making a church service that would be max 30 mins available to me. 3 days before my father's funeral(March 1st)a representative named Tanya emailed me and said that she would have to cancel the funeral if she didn't receive the documents. Wtf! I called her and she was so cold and said that she said "might cancel" like that's any better! That stupid document was signed a total of 3x because apparently ppl don't know how to read emails. Anyways I forwarded the documents to her....again! Every single request or accommodation I asked for from this company was denied. I ended up talking to the vice president or president, and when I told her about everything all I got was a so sorry, but the one request that I asked of her was because of where my father was laid to rest is so steep that if there's a way to have my elderly mom use a different way to walk up to the plot, she said she'd look into it but when she got back to me she gave me a long drawn out explanation that basically was still a "no" and gave me another option to have her walk from a further entry point. I swear if my grandmother wasn't buried there I would never do business with them, if I was a millionaire I would exhume my grandmother and bury them both elsewhere! They pray on your wallet at the most vulnerable time in your life. The president said that it's all how you say things...sometimes it's not hiding behind "policies" and give clients what they need to make a difficult process as easy as can be. I'm dissatisfied and disappointed in the way I was talked to but also how my complaints were handled. read more

All Saints Day is November 1st and in my cultural tradition this means we celebrate by paying respects to our departed ones and praying for their eternal peace. So, my immediate family and I went to Forest Lawn to clean the headstones of our past loved ones, lay some flowers, and say our prayers. I really don't like going to Forest Lawn because it reminds me of my grandmother who I dearly loved and I become solemn. However, it's comforting that the cemetery is very well kept and so peaceful. The place is huge with rolling hills and quite picturesque with green grass and trees as far as the eye can see. There are also several statues and sitting benches where you can sit and recall fond memories of your loved ones. Rest in peace Nona. read more

As the end of Holy Week spins into full Catholic frothiness, Good Friday inevitably means two things to me: a hard and fast day where I continue my decline into hell for not bothering to even acknowledge Lent's Fast, and a trip up to Forest Lawn to clean my grandparents' headstone and bring spring flowers. My grandparents weren't born in this country. The day my grandfather passed away, I became acutely aware of the delicate predicament dying in a foreign country created for my grandparents. Ukraine would always be home. But due to circumstances of political unrest and war, their final resting place will be under American soil. My grandparents, like so many other immigrants, carved out a place for themselves in this melting pot of a country I call home. In their own unique way they became American. My grandmother would take it upon herself to point out on Friday night's - while my grandfather drank cognac with the Uki intelligentsia in the living room - that she, in fact, had a hot date with her boyfriend Michael Jackson. My grandfather, in turn, would become a strong supporter of Mr. Hefner's ambitions, and as such I would go on to inherit a smashing set of 1960s era Playboy Bunny shot glasses. And so what makes Forest Lawn such an amazing place isn't that it's well kept. Or that it's peaceful, has cool architecture, or fantastic half naked Grecian statues. Forest Lawn is not about "being" at a cemetery. After my grandfather passed away, I would regularly take my grandmother to visit him. She would always point out the peacefulness of the ducks and swans near the pond (while I selfishly wanted to chase after them). We'd point out various parts of the park and note where so-and-so had purchased their "condo" for future occupation. We'd joke about the ridiculousness of a medieval castle located in the middle of LA, all the while admitting that it was in fact beautiful. When my grandfather's "neighbors" finally moved in, and they turned out to be Armenian, we couldn't help but laugh. This is Glendale after all. Going to Forest Lawn isn't really about dead people. It is about those of us still here. And the people who run this place understand that. At once peaceful and tranquil, Forest Lawn is very much a living space, with a tremendous amount of history. My grandparents now reside just walking distance from the Court of Freedom where Walt Disney, and a token statue of Mickey Mouse, can be found, as well as my grandma's boyfriend who moving in just up the street. While I miss my babcha and dido, it won't be long before I'm back in the truck with a small arrangement of flowers and cleaning supplies to go visit them, ready to spend some time admiring and reflecting upon the space that Forest Lawn has created in my life. read more

I wish there was a 1/2 star to give especially to this place. My mother in law had passed away January 2021 and I asked Forest Lawn for cremation services and for the body to be picked up from the hospital since the hospital she was in only allowed 5 days until we had to recover the body or there will be extra charge. As we tried to negotiate Forest Lawn Glendale in picking up and storing the body for us we were told they were over capacity and they were unable to take the remains and we were told the wait time for them to take the body from the hospital would be until February 2021. We then decided to use a different company to transport the body as well as cremation services. By February 2021 we were able to buy a property from Forest Lawn Glendale for a niche - we paid 25% as a down payment and a 4 year payment plan. The time came when my mother in law was cremated and ready for the remains to be buried into the niche. I called Forest Lawn 4 TIMES from February until NOW (it is now March 26 2021) and were told we would have to call back April to TRY to get a schedule for burial services. I decided to call the cremation/burial services today for the 5th TIME and now we were told we would have to PAY THE ENTIRE AMOUNT BEFORE WE CAN PUT THE REMAINS INTO THE NICHE! This is absurd!!! We can't even put the remains into the niche property that we paid 25% down payment as well as the 2 months we have paid for (February & March payments)!!! My suggestions for everyone is to find another location or company because Forest Lawn do not care about anyone except taking your money and leaving you out to dry! read more

PEACE & LOVE to the ones we lost... This cemetery is very peaceful and well organized. The facility here is well maintained and very kind to the ones who had lost ones. Since my grandfather passed... we have noticed that the maintenance they have provided was impeccable. During the time of my relative passing... we were taken upstairs to pick and choose which coffin would be convenient (price wise). They have a huge selection of statues, benches, coffins, the outside which the coffin is placed in (all different qualities and types.) Thumbs up to the staff that helped us through the hard times we went through. Crazy as it may seem, but I highly recommend buying the location of the ground before anything else. The price we paid back then was much cheaper than today. Was around $7,000... now its around $15,000. YUP BIG PRICE DIFFERENCE! and it is still going up. A+ 5 Stars read more
