He apologized for my…read moreexperience and took the position that "unfortunately their Regular Security Guard had called out sick...and well some parties get out of hand...but we are top rated with Holiday Inn...Sorry no can't comp you a free night, besides we're fully booked". Way to drop the ball--i originally gave 2 stars for the Sales Manager who took ownership & immediately refunded my first two nights stay and delivered a hand written apology note. I'm currently staying at this Holiday Inn while my father is in hospice care, and although the property itself is new, clean, and nicely updated with decent amenities, my experience has been extremely disappointing. This hotel caters to large wedding parties, many of whom treat the building as a second party venue rather than a hotel. Despite being assigned to the "quiet floor" and being warned at check-in about potential noise, my first night included what felt like a full-blown frat party in the hallway. After a sleepless night, I suggested the hotel consider simple courtesy signage--similar to what some bars use--to remind guests to respect others as they return to their rooms. This is a reasonable, basic step, and it shouldn't fall on guests to propose it. An even more concerning issue was the front desk service. When I asked for matches to light a candle to say a prayer for my father, I fully expected a polite safety-related decline. Instead, the employee said, "100% no problem--promise you will burn this place to the ground." Whether meant as a joke or not, it was wildly inappropriate, unprofessional, and deeply unsettling given the circumstances. When I asked another staff member the following evening if I should expect another night like the first, the response was simply, "That's how people are these days." No reassurance, no ownership, and no sense of hospitality. Overall, the lack of guest control, poor handling of disruptive events, coupled with shockingly unprofessional staff interactions have made an already difficult time even harder. I hope management addresses these issues, because the property has potential--but right now, the guest experience falls far short of acceptable.

Mini omelets, pancakes, oatmeal, cereal, sausage, yogurt and fruit. They do a lot of wedding parties here and the 4 nights I stayed there was always a party going on with a lot of drunk guests. The hotel quieted them down pretty quickly after the front desk was called but still a bit annoying.

Cons: -heat/thermostat isn't consistent... it blows directly on the bed closest to the window so that part of the room gets super hot while the bathroom area is still cold. You have to turn it way up to get the room up to warm and then turn it down. -tv is limited as far as commercial-free channels and you cannot stream or mirror. -the black out curtains did not reach the windowsill so light crept in right at eye level in the morning. Also they did not overlap and we had to close them with a hair-clip. -No snack shop in the lobby- just vending machines that only take singles. The front desk kindly made change for us. -The saline pool smelled weird... -we booked another night and I called the front desk early in the morning to keep the same room, and they said it was ok, i checked-in online and all looked good, so we went back to sleep and then the front desk kept calling because it wasn't going through on her end and said i had to come down... so i did and then showed her that it worked on my app and she said oh, ok then. Especially, after you've seen the amazing photos of the way Cobmin Ridge Motel looks TODAY - THIS MINUTE! Stop & go look at them if you haven't, then come back to me, please. How can I say such a statement with such determined conviction? Because it's where I'm staying - right now - at this very moment!! Let's see the CALENDAR; It's Sunday, October 30th - and what year is it ladies and gentlemen? Correct; it's 2022! Let me REPEAT THAT: 2022!! (How do I Capitalize Numbers) My room, #8, is as you'd find at a 5 star hotel! You think hyperbole? Even a high priced Marriott doesn't have gorgeous, multi-colored fluffy, soft and enormous towels! What do you find at a Marriott? Plain Jane, boring, white towels from Macy's! Crap! Cobmin Ridge Motel is totally underrated. Take the amenities that other tauted properties have in their bathrooms. Crap again is what they have! Not Cobmin Ridge Motel in my room number # 8 - where, if you can remember back to the beginning - is where Mark Doyle, US Army Pilot ret - is at this very moment! In what YEAR! No - NOT 2016 - Pay Attention Please - the Year is 2022 - soon to be 2023 - Happy New Year Travelers! in case I forget. The soap is top of the line - you actually get lathered up! Not scratched, as in most 2 & 3 star properties. The proprietor Marina - provides special, womanly, face creams - that you'd find in a first class SPA!!! At this moment, I'm feeling a bit tired, and I want to go to bed. Did you people see the photos of the bedding? And pillows? The gorgeous colors? I don't want to mess them up!! A WALL MOUNTED, ENORMOUS, FLAT SCREEN TV!! BACK to the BATHROOM. The shower pressure will knock you over - and the water is - __HOT_ HOT & HOT_ that stays HOT forever!!! Allowing you to lather up with quality soap, and with designer shampoo & conditioner!! BTW - SAVE WATER - SHOWER WITH A FRIEND!! I'm always thinking GREEN! CHECK OUT COBMIN RIDGE MOTEL, AND YOU'LL WANT TO MOVE IN!!! THE END

I would say Cobmin is a worthy alternative consideration to the typical lower cost motels available in the same region, given the balance of the factors above. Here's what I liked: - convenient location to supermarket, restaurants, and downtown Branchville, and oh, the beautiful parks in the area. - free self parking. - free WiFi which was respectable. - amenities including a full-sized fridge with a freezer (came with a king bed room), gigantic flat screen tv, and comfy bed. - easy, contactless check-in and checkout. - fair nightly rate given all of the above. - responsive host immediately available via SMS throughout the process. Here's what I think could've been better: - it took several minutes for water to warm up. It's a good thing we weren't traveling in colder temps. - while the toilet is super efficient and the limited bathroom space is well designed and equipped, I so badly wished for more room in the shower. - a button or two on the AC machine appeared to be out of order, because despite high humidity and fluctuating warmth in the room, it was impossible to keep the air on. We saw a few state police officers knocking on the doors of some of the rooms as we pulled into the parking lot for check-in. We don't know what it was about but nothing catastrophic happened during our stay, and I hope it's not a sign of anything particular. Overall, I would recommend Cobmim to fellow travellers. I hope they keep improving and listening out for guest feedback.

The second morning, we had stuffed french toast with bacon and fruit. Can I just say that I still crave both dishes, even after a month? They were the tastiest pancakes and stuffed french toast ever! Plus, we had a cute little view of the pond from our room. Long story short, I would highly recommend taking a weekend trip here. The only down comment I'd like to make is that if you are a big person or are claustrophobic, do NOT book the Fox and Hound room. My house ran out of power and heat due to the BAD snowstorm and in the middle of the night I booked a room for 90$ with this motel, and they WEREN'T EVEN OPEN!!! My cellphone battery died and I was left stranded in the middle of a snowstorm AT 3AM!!!!!! Thankfully a stranger at a nearby gas station guided me towards a highway that would lead me to more hotels that were actually 24 hours. Later when Sussex Motel opened, I called and explained my situation to the representative. The woman I spoke to cancelled my reservation as we were on the phone and said I would get my refund within 10 business days. That was January 28th and it is now March 2nd. After 10 days I called for weeks, and they refused to answer the phone. When they finally answered I was told that I should have received it and that they will speak to their superior to see what happened. When I called again for an update, I was told that I would not be getting my money back and that there was some sort of mix up with my name which made absolutely no sense to me. I paid 90$ for a room I never even stayed in, for a motel that doesn't even stay open for 24hours. After telling me for more than a month I would get my refund they turned around and said that I wasn't and stole my money, claiming my refund went against cancellation policy. If that were true, then why was I told that I would be receiving a refund to begin with? DISGUSTING AND BEYOND UNPROFFESSIONAL. I reported this motel to the better business bureau, The Advertiser News North, and Sussex County Court for stealing my money and having misleading information online. My lawyer is reaching out to them as well and they aren't answering. I hope this review protects others from having a horrible experience with Sussex Motel.
