We have been going to 'the dock' (a part of this place) for years for a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner but today without a doubt was the WORST excuse for a Thanksgiving meal we have ever had. How the HELL do you dry our dark meat turkey? The ' cough cough ' ham was shoe leather and the 'Brussel sprouts were hard as a rock. We left hungry even after desert, what a disgrace. We have been to 'the dock' Thanksgiving for more years than I can count and ALWAYS had an amazing meal and took home some great leftovers. I am sad to say we will NEVER be back again after this ' again cough cough ' meal. I stayed at this establishment this past Friday for one night and I'm very happy it was just one night. I tried talking to someone there after processing my experience. My understanding is there is a company/person that owns all the hotels in Hawley and really jacks up the prices and makes it hard to find something affordable and nice to stay in. Luckily I was "treated" to my stay by my traveling companion but I feel I need to write this review as I hadn't heard back from the manager. It was not worth the $400 that was paid. It advertises some beautiful snapshots, it looked gorgeous on the website and we were excited at the prospect of staying there. It was an old room. There were two tv channels. There was no view of the water from the room. To see it you had to walk down. The room was just "ok" for what we paid. It was really worth maybe $150-200 at best cause u can get a glimpse of the water just need to take a walk. There was nothing special in the room, no robes or nice amenities. Old place. Good paint job. The breakfast in the am was not set up. The poor guy who was setting it up when people were getting there looked harried and stressed. I was just happy to have some coffee and got out of there and left to go somewhere else for breakfast. I did reach out to the hotel and said I didn't want to leave a bad review. Maybe something could be done. Maybe I could stay at the overpriced Ledges hotel nearby which is a bit better and has a nicer feel. I stayed there at the beginning when they had just opened years ago and rooms $ were reasonable. Now their price point is up there in the $300's. Look I was just happy to leave Silver Birches and never go back. And we ordered take out next door from The Dock. Congealed cheese on my cold pizza. Never again. read more

We came here for a weekend for our anniversary and I wish I could have stayed a week. We stayed in a king deluxe room. We had a balcony overlooking the lake. The two pools were right next to our room with the pool bar right there. One pool was family oriented and the other was 18 and older. Both closed at a reasonable hour so not to bother us at night. The restaurant on the property was pleasant. The menu was limited but we both loved the steak! There are also seafood and chicken options. The amenities were outstanding! They also have three other properties nearby where you can enjoy their amenities. There are lots of attractions nearby. I will be back to the Silver Birches soon! read more

I'm in my 70s and have done my share of dining out. This place ranks #1 at the top of the list of worst places I have ever been... Overpriced, poor service and the worst food I have ever attempted to eat. I could go on and on about my experience there but I probably don't have enough life time to finish this review. We just returned from a really disappointing stay at Silver Birches. We booked "the Big House" at a hefty price tag of $3,000 for 3 nights over Memorial Day weekend. The condition of the house left a lot to be desired. Several of the blinds were broken in the DOWN position so we could not see the lake (we used rubber bands to try to tie them up again). Many of the window cranks were broken so the windows didn't open, and many of those that did open had missing or broken screens. (Why rent a lake house if you can't see the lake or open the windows?). Stains on the carpet, water marks on the ceiling, not enough flatware in the house to accommodate the 10 people the house sleeps, closet doors that were off track, deck furniture dumped in a pile and not set up for us, a grill that was so dirty it caught on fire when I tried to make dinner, broken furniture, nametags still stuck on doors I guess indicating assigned rooms for the previous renters??... I could go on - but the most upsetting part was the response from senior management. The manager on duty and the groundskeepers informed us that a group of college students had rented the house just before us and held a house party with more than 50 people sleeping over. They said the kids "destroyed" the house and Silver Birches wasn't able to address all of the issues before our stay. I told them that I understood their predicament but that I didn't think I should be expected to pay full price when the home was not in the condition it should be. The manager understood and called the CEO (COO?) to see what could be done. According to her, his response was, and I quote, "Absolutely not...things happen...there are no refunds or reimbursements." She reminded him of the house party and he said, "I will not take that into consideration." I'm sorry, what? Seriously? Other notes - communication around the place is problematic. When you call the "front desk" you are first directed to a call center not on the property and then bounced to the main desk (where frequently no one answers). When we called about the scheduled live music we were alternately told "it's happening outside now" (it wasn't); "there is no music scheduled this weekend" (there was); "it was canceled" (it wasn't); "it's been moved to the restaurant" (bingo). The one and only restaurant reservation we could get mysteriously disappeared from their books and I had to beg them to accommodate us on our final night. The place is dog-friendly and not all guests pick up after their dog so in addition to all the geese poop there's dog poop lying around too. If you are mobility-impaired and not staying at the Inn or the close-in cottages, you'll have a lot of trouble navigating the extremely steep hill b/c there are no pathways. The place boasts a lot of activities but heads' up that they own multiple properties and not all of the activities actually take place at Silver Birches. The sunset toast which was scheduled to happen never took place (I waited for it). Again, I could go on. It was just overall an (extremely costly) disappointment with a shockingly rude COO. On the positive side - beds, sheets, and towels were comfy. Paddleboards and kayaks were fun. View from the bar area was stunning. Too bad we couldn't really see it through the broken blinds from our overpriced lakefront house. read more

We went here for the New Years Eve party 2023. Large crowd (which is fine) with ONE appetizer station, waited in line for apps for 30+ minutes only to have nearly nothing left. Dinner... stood in line for "hot" sides then in the line for the carving station, by the time we hit to the table with the plate EVERYTHING was cold! Food was sub-par. Let's talk about the bar.., 1 VERY miserable bartender and 1 that had no clue what she was doing, and also miserable! The setup was terrible, the dance floor way too small for that crowd. This place is a little hidden slice of heaven. My boyfriend and I found this place on Groupon for his birthday weekend, and it was one of the best decisions we ever made. We were ready to book our next trip within an hour of being there. Rose and the rest of the staff went out of their way to make us feel as comfortable as possible. We were even upgraded to a king suite free of charge that had the most spectacular view of the lake, as well as a patio to relax on. And don't even get my started on the beautiful room with the fireplace and giant jacuzzi tub. Honestly, I would've been okay just staying in the room for the whole weekend. That being said, as an athlete, I would expect that they would have had even the smallest knowledge about the logistics of the event, its participants and thus, their guests. The place looked nice initially. We stayed at the retreats at Millbrook, and the two bedroom two bath condo was lovely and spacious. They had king-size beds and a fold out couch, it easily fit our five guests. However we did have issues in that the ceiling had obviously gotten wet before and there was mold on it. We were quite concerned about this. The fold out couch were also stiff and you could feel the springs and the blanket was too thin. We did love that they included paddle boards and kayaks at the main lodge at Silver birches. Whoever does the housekeeping needs to change the ceilings for alert the owners, however we would stay here again as long as the mold is addressed read more

I made reservation for 07/11-07/15, 2022 ref# 2279021487 and had to cancel my reservation because both my wife and I had tested positive for Covid19. I canceled my reservation on 07/09 and called Silver Birches Resort. As I found out in an email I received, fees in the amount of 1/3 of all cost ($557.00) will be charged for my cancellation and this is resort cancellation policy doesn't matter what is the reason to cancel. I called Silver Birches Resort 4 times starting 07/09 and nobody wanted to help in my matter. Every time I have an answer - this is our policy. Email been sent to the Silver Birches Resort management to waive fees and reply was negative: "As discussed with the Silver Birches Resort they have not agreed to waive off the cancellation fee due to their policy." Came for my cousins wedding, and as a catering venue, which is all I can speak about for this review, Silver Birches was as perfect a setting for such a celebration. The views of the lake were spectacular (DYK there is a sunken town at the bottom, 60 feet below the surface??), the grassy lakefront where the ceremony was held was quaint. I would suggest that the SB management space the seating rows a little further apart next time - tough for even the average sized people like me and petites like my girlfriend to squeeze down the rows! Honestly though, this was the only issue I could find and that's really not a big deal. Cocktail hour was spread out amongst the outdoor patio (beer and wine bar plus passed finger foods). The highlight was definitely the fig and cheese puff pastries - ate about seven of those. The gumbo shots were nifty, and my girlfriend liked the ahi tuna shots and Mac-n-cheese wedges. It is unusual to see the main dining room open during cocktail hour but Silver Birches has it set like this, with a sprawling main hall, and five steps above it, a veranda overlooking the dance floor containing a full service bar, a crudités platter, fruit board, warm spinach and artichoke dips with a variety of accompanying crackers and bread, warm chips with salsa and guacamole, and bold beef empanadas. The full service bar was womaned by three fast moving, friendly, efficient bartenders who didn't say no to a single drink - bloodies? Check. Mojitos? Check. Blueberry Collins? Check. Melon Balls? Yes they knew how to make them. Solid skill sets here. After a Caesar course, Dinner was delish - there was a salmon option but we chose the flank steak in a delectable demiglace with potatoes and mixed veg. The service throughout the night was superlative, especially from a friendly young woman with two French braids in her hair who constantly checked in on my girlfriend and I and even shared with us that she was working on her 23rd birthday - we never caught her name but she was so wonderful all night long. Dessert was holy crap breathtaking. A serve-yourself Viennese by the main bar included cannolis (Addictive), Gluten free brownies (more addictive), dream bars, mini carrot cakes, and more, plus, an ice cream sundae station with mint chocolate chip (like they read our minds), and wedding cake as well. The venue was stunning, the service was super, can't say much of anything else except this was one of the Best weddings I have ever attended. We stayed at Silver Birches in the Premium Deluxe King suite. The facility is nice, but a bit pricey for what is included. The view of the lake is wonderful. The stay included a credit for the dock, but we ate elsewhere after having dinner the first evening and breakfast the next morning. The food was terrible and there are a few choices that are much better in the area. Covid has impacted the area and many places are closed, short staffed or limited. So many flying insects all over the resort. It was a swarm. Could not enjoy the outdoors. These insects come around April and I don't know when they leave. But don't book anything until you are guaranteed there are no flies around. You'll be swatting them off you your entire stay...when you get out the car, when you enter your room, when you go to a restaurant, and while your trying to make your own coffee in the kitchen. I hate to give a bad review especially to a place that my family has had happy memories at in the past. I don't know if the new owners are City Slickers- but they are not improving the Inn by having a large unpaid group of people coming to see free music on the lawn every Saturday afternoon. This Inn and the Lake side cottages are rich in history and families pay to come here to enjoy the peaceful scenery. As a paying customer who has stayed here several times; I am shocked by the owners new idea to have a bunch of freeloaders come who bring their own food/ drinks and trash and who also use up all the parking and also have dogs running around pooping everywhere!!! I am shocked That the owners would think this is a great idea for their paying customers. I couldn't use the WIFI for hours and the parking problem and noise takes away from beautiful scenery. Why would you ruin the ambience? Why would you cater to people not staying at the Inn? This family Inn will be ruined if these crazy ideas continue and I am very sad today writing this. This was a place to be cherished by families, not a 20 something hang out for people who didn't even pay to stay at! Cater to your guests first Silver Birches or you will lose them. read more

The room was very dated. .Unfortunately, there was a wedding that day on the property and from around midnight to 3:00 am super loud partying right next door to us. Our room was right over the office, so there is no way the staff person did not hear the loud banging and noise coming from above! I barely slept. The room was super pricey for what we got. It was our first time there and don't plan on returning. When we returned the keys the next day, no one asked us how our stay was. I think I know why! read more

The unit at Millbrook Cove (part of Silver Birches) was clean, roomy, warm, with a well equipped kitchen and a fantastic lakeside view. The registration staff at the office and when we called for anything were super friendly. Access to the site is very easy, but our unit was not wheelchair accessible. Not a problem for us, just mentioning it. One downside....even though we were given a WiFi sign-in, it didn't work. We could connect, but our devices said connected with no internet access. Not even the TV's worked. They said no internet access. (We were able to mirror our phones to the tv and stream a movie that way.) Lol. Ok. A lesson to focus on the here and now which we did with local hikes. Nevertheless, we're coming back. Nice place. read more

I booked this place on VRBO thinking it was a bed and breakfast ( that's how it was advertised) and when we got there it was a family resort. Very nice place considering that i was somewhere I didn't expect to be. The room was clean the bed very comfortable and the view was beautiful. There are also cottages and houses you can rent. ( kinda pricey)At night they had fire pits that were very relaxation air at. The people where very friendly too. A lot of families go back year after year. The restaurant on premise was ok nothing to brag about. They also have canoeing and swimming fishing and a pool too the families seemed like they were enjoying themselves. read more

Has a pool with pool bar and lake Recreation ( wakeboarding, canoe and kyacking). Has fire pits by the lake and 1st night brought out comp champagne for the sunset. Hotel restaurant called the Dock is great and has nice bar as well. Very friendly staff I definetly would return. Like any resort food and drinks are pricey as expected. read more

We stayed here last weekend with two kids and a dog. We picked it because of the location, the cabins were pet-friendly, and it looked, from the website and reviews, to be beautiful. Unfortunately, it was not what we expected. Pros- as the photo shows, the view from the main "resort" was gorgeous. We had a relaxing time sitting back there most of the day. The drinks at the outdoor bar were great. Because we had a dog with us we could not eat at the Dock restaurant, but it was very easy to order food online and pick it up to eat outside. The lobster roll was the best I've ever had. The kids had a great time running around the lawn and playing games. Cons- we arrived pretty late (and note, it's not easy to find in the dark!). We picked up the key from the resort and then headed half a mile away to the "lakeside cabin." The cabin was very sparse (indeed, pet friendly since there was next to nothing in there), the bedroom could barely fit the bed that was in it, and the air felt extremely stuffy. We couldn't get the a/c to work, but since it was a nice night we opened all the windows - BIG MISTAKE. We quickly realized the "lakeside cabin" was actually a "roadside cabin" and motorcycles frequent this main road all hours of the night. No one slept. In the morning we were able to see the lake through a sliver of trees and could walk down to the docks, which was peaceful. We called about the A/C and we're told that it just takes a while to turn on....it never turned on and the air remained stuffy, and again, motorcycles kept us up all night. Our neighbors in the cabin next to us had similar issues. Over at the resort, the the pool is quite small and there is only a tiny area of the lake for to dip your toes in. The bathrooms for the pool are high-end port-a-potties. Bottom line : the word "lakeside" is very deceiving here. Yes, it's lakeside, but it's also roadside. On another note, we loved the Wallenpaupack boat tour and highly recommend Seth as a tour guide. read more

Very loud property, not recomended for peace and quiet at all, the wifi is hit or miss (it goes down for hours at a time, the room itself was clean but noisy as in the floors were super loud, i woke up and went to bed listening to the people in the room next door yelling in spanish at each other and running up and down the stairs for a good 2 hours, the shades in the windows at night do not block ANY of the incoming light from the outside spot lights that are pretty much right outside the window, the door to the room iself is an interior door and you can hear everything from the other rooms and all the lighy from the hallway comes right into the room. Only gave it 2 stars because the room was clean and had a good view of the lake. Oh, and the food in this area is absolute trash, i didnt eat at one decent place the whole time i was here. Wont be back to this area unless it is to camp in a tent. read more

I booked the condo/townhouse through Airbnb. It is a townhome on the lake, but a few miles away from silver birches main property. However, same owners. I found the booking process to be confusing because I kept getting emails from Airbnb saying I needed to pay again, but silver birches (through email) told me I was booked. When I tried to call the hotel, I kept getting a voicemail rather than a live person. Once we got the silver birches property, the directions to the place a few miles down the road was confusing and when we called, no one answered the phone. The property where the townhomes are located are currently undergoing renovations. The property itself had a dumpster and appliances taken from the townhomes outside. I was disappointed in the inside and outside, but it was clear they are renovating. However, we were given a complimentary upgrade, which was a nice gesture. The townhome was okay, but the bathroom downstairs had sliding bath doors, which were very old and dirty. I also saw two big spiders, but realize we were in the woods on a lake. With that being said, it was a good rate, the upgrade was a nice gesture, and I think once the renovations are done, both inside and outside, the property would be nice. I also found the staff and owners to be very nice. We needed a blanket (missing from the bed) and ice and WiFi password, and they were quick to respond. The silver birch property was beautiful. Great pool bar, and lawn to hang out on. I would recommend staying at the property, rather than the townhome, unless it was fully renovated. I also wish people answered the phone more often. Most of the servers, the woman managing the event, and those who greeted us on arrival had poor attitudes. I am certain that the event was quite costly. Better training (any training) of the staff would go a long way. I know that we are in a rural area, but this place bills itself as a resort. We stayed in one of the motel-type of rooms over the summer and were very impressed by how updated the room was. We were expecting something a bit more shabby being on a lake but we're pleasantly surprised. The property is large and they have many conveniences like lawn games, a pool, a lunch/alcohol bar, and fire pits. The view of the lake is beautiful and you can enjoy it from your balcony. There is a free shuttle provided to take you between Ledges Hotel and The Settlers Inn where there are other activities to participate in. A buffet breakfast at The Dock restaurant next door is included each morning for 2 guests per room. The food was good but I thought the staff could have been friendlier. This place included a lot so you don't feel like you're being Nickle-and-dimed. The staff running the place are very nice and accommodating. My one complaint is that the place is dog-friendly so there are dogs doing their business around you. read more

I booked the resort and I selected from their bookings page a cabin on the lake with a lake view and queen bed. when my wife and I arrived to celebrate her birthday surprise we were given a cabin not on their immediate property with no lake view and on the woods with no view at all. my wife and I were devastated. when we questioned why they were doing this to us a very rude and intimidating man told us that's too bad that is what he has . take it or leave it because it's not his problem. we had to drive 4 hours from Connecticut to get there and our time was ruined we finally stayed an hour away in Monticello. no this place scammed us they have all nice pictures and offers to lure you in but don't trust them. by the way while I was waiting in my truck at their office I noticed a father and mother giving their two young boyk beer and the hostess did not stop them. read more
