The owner was incredibly kind, charged me half the price I was quoted here, and was able to repair my boot the same day. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this business. Customer service goes a long way, and no one should leave feeling disrespected for asking a simple question.

However, when revisiting this past week I was disappointed in the new cobbler and his lack of customer service. When I asked could he repair my sandals, he stated with reservation he could. At which point I cautioned against proceeding but I thought maybe he was just having a bad day. Well this is truly his demeanor, because when I went to pickup my shoes and I asked him were they ready, he pointed to the shelf and asked me if I saw them on the shelf? I thought to myself, why am I looking for my shoes when I pay for a service you should go and get them! I looked for my shoes, saw them I grabbed them and then when I asked him why the heel of my shoe repair was not identical on both shoes? He proceeded to argue with me about the shoe repair. I told him this is not how you treat your customers when I ask you a question about my shoe repair, do not argue with me about it when I am paying for a service! Needless to say I will never take anything to that shoe repair shop again nor will I recommend anything he does because his service is deplorable and his repair work is shoddy!!

As somewhat of a snob when it comes to good cobblers, I can say that Louis the owner, really knows what he is doing. I have brought many pairs of dress shoes, Mostly my Allen Edmond's into his store and have never been disappointed with the result. They take the extra time to make sure that the job is done correct, and it really shows in their end product. One of the big marks of the good cobbler are the finishing touches they put on a pair of shoes when they are re-sewn; they take the time not just to sew the bottom stitches on but also make sure they cut a groove before stitching. This adds about six months of life when having a pair of shoes resoled. Aside from dress shoes, I have also taken my Sperry Topsider's in to have the insoles replaced, and Luis seems to be able to add new life to a pair shoes that I would've thrown away. The products that they stock or a top-quality, and I often buy most of my polish, conditioners and shoe trees from their shop. I am a big proponent of supporting local businesses, especially people who have a skill, and take the time to do the job right. Give this little gem of a shop a try, you will not be disappointed!

I took a pair of boots on 10/9 to Leon that needed repair after my dog got to them. He came highly recommended from a trusted friend. He required payment up front, which usually I won't do as a first-time customer, but made an exception since he seemed like a good guy and my friend had excellent work done here. He promised an estimate within a few days. I waited a week before getting in touch by text, and got a very hostile response. We later talked on the phone and apparently he thought I was trying to scam him because his information has been "hacked", even though we'd already communicated in the same text thread. We cleared the air and he apologized for the misunderstanding. He got me an estimate 5 days later (for those keeping track it's now 10/21), and I went to the store immediately to pay. He took my money and promised they'd be done by the end of the month. He's just one guy, after all! Can't fault him for taking his time, especially if the work is good. I got in touch on 10/31 and he said he needed another week. I got in touch a week later and he says he's still not done, but says I can come by the store at 8pm that night to pick up. This doesn't work with my schedule, which is fine. That's on me. So today, 11/8, rolls around and I ask about when I can pick up. He texts to "come by 3pm", which means "come before 3pm". A typo, i realize in retrospect, and so when I showed up at 1:30 expecting him to be there I was surprised that the shop as closed. I called and was met with a stream of profanity about how he had told me to come AT 3pm. We bickered for a bit, I'm frustrated, and so I come at 3 to find him just starting the work on my boots. The resulting work is really bad. The patch leather is cut poorly and messily, the thread isn't properly sewn in, and there is glue all around the perimeter of the patch on the boots themselves. A cherry on top: when I was trying to leave the store, which is quite cluttered and small, I tripped over some detritus, and he laughed at me and then texted me "up yours" as I was getting to my car.

Unfortunately, this experience raised a serious customer service concern. When I dropped off my shoes, I specifically asked how long the repairs would take. Both the gentleman working at the front desk and Pete told me they would be ready in one week. After eight days, I called because I was leaving town and needed the shoes for my trip. I was then told that the standard turnaround time was actually one and a half to two weeks. Had I been quoted that timeframe when I dropped them off, I would not have left the shoes because I knew I needed them before my trip. When I returned to town, I stopped by the store to pick them up. The gentleman at the front desk immediately asked whether I was the person who had called. When I confirmed that I was, he responded, "Well, your shoes were ready last week." His tone was unnecessary and dismissive. I explained that the shoes were supposed to be ready by Wednesday, based on the timeframe I was originally given, and that I had been out of town since Thursday. There are several cobblers who repair high-end and designer shoes. I have continued choosing Pete, not because he is the least expensive, but because he consistently does excellent work. I am happy with the repairs to both pairs of shoes, but the quality of the customer service at the front desk does not reflect the quality of Pete's craftsmanship. I have referred several friends to Pete for repairs to their designer shoes and bags because I trusted both his work and the service I had previously received. Unfortunately, based solely on this interaction with the front-desk employee, I am now apprehensive about returning and will likely need to look elsewhere for future repairs.
