I want to preface this post by saying we have not had our final appointment yet. If there is no update then that experience was consistent with the empathic and caring experience we've had thus-far. Our sweet girl was diagnosed with bone cancer. The vet has incredible bed side manners and has been more than accommodating to our questions/concerns as we grieve this loss. He and his staff met me on a personal level, sharing their own stories and empowering me during the hardest decision I've ever had to make. I cannot thank them enough for being a listening ear on my hardest days. I have probably spoken to everyone in the office and they never treated me as though I was too much work. We moved to the Cottage Grove area about 2 years ago. Prior to that the vet we used was decent but the prices of general care just kept going up and up and UP! We could no longer afford proper vet visits..it is UNREAL the prices compared to just 10 years ago. We started going to Forest Valley with little hope of decent care for our 8 dogs and two cats. One by one we took them in for a general check up. Next we set up dental for FOUR of 8. We have even visited them for trips over the rainbow bridge. Two years of, shots, dental, general issues and saying good-bye etc...I am writing this review. I have over 40 years experience with Vets to compare them to. I will say we are LUCKY to have you, LUCKY you care as much as you do and LUCKY that every single stage of life that we have need you for has not let us down. Yesterday, I took THREE pets in for one visit. It was involved and each pet was given ample time to check, research and review with me the findings. It took an hour for the Doc to cover all three. It has been a LONG time since I felt the cost of meaningful care was fairly priced. These guys have taken great care to ensure the prices we pay are fair enough to allow us to give our pets the care they deserve. Super disappointed. I have been coming here for years and every single time I have to wait at least 30 to 45 minutes after my appointment time before we finally get into a room, and then another 15 to 20 minutes before we finally see a person. Today I waited with a sick stressed howling cat in the car for over a half hour. My time is valuable too and when I'm paying $150 for basic appointment, they should be on time. I love my pets, but this is ridiculous! When we had to put down our 17 year old dog a few months back, we had an appointment and still had to wait two hours with our dying dog in the back of our car. I'm so sad to say I think it's time to look elsewhere for a vet. read more

Tried to get flea meds for my dog but had to make an appt for a check up first. My dog has high anxiety and I have to medicate her for vet appts. Since she has been perfectly healthy we missed her appt in March. So hey appt was today at 5pm. Right after I got there, there was an emergency so I had to wait. Dog was medicated but still very nervous. A couple came in the office with their dog in their arms that had just had a stroke and was screaming in pain. It was an old dog and had had a stroke. The couple was there to have the dog put down and were told that they couldn't help them because they were closing soon and already had an emergency and that they would have to drive to Eugene 20 miles away to an emergency vet. I told them that they could have my appt but was then told that there weren't enough vets. My dog was freaking out for to the distress that this old dog was in. I felt so bad for that screaming dog and the owners and there was nothing that they would do to help. I couldn't wait around any longer so asked if I could get the flea meds and reschedule my appt. They would not give me the meds so I asked if they had anything non prescription that I could give her. I was told to go to Walmart and that my dog had to be seen first for the other meds. I asked for the next available appt and was given the 28th which is 2 weeks away. I was there for my appt, I waited as long as I could before I had to leave, had driven 15 miles to get there and medicated my dog. I really felt a lack of empathy for not only my situation but for those people that were trying to end the suffering of their family member. I will be cancelling my next appt and going to a different vet from now on. I thought that this was a good establishment but from what I saw today I was wrong. My 15 year old Pit Bull Sara had a giant tumor on her neck which ruptured. we came home to a bloody mess (literally!). I took her to Forest Valley Veterinary Clinic and they were wonderfu! First, no judgment about why the tumor hadn't been looked at earlier (Sara's 15 and didn't act like she was in any pain so I saw no reason to cause her stress), that was huge since I was feeling guilty. They gave me an estimate of cost before doing anything and let me know the cost for surgery. It took me a couple weeks to come up with the money, and I'm so glad I did! Within one day of having the tumor removed she was up and out patroling our yard, letting the wild turkeys and deer know they had to stay away from the chicken feed. She had lost interest in that over a year ago! I had thought that, like me, age was requesting naps over walks! But no! it wasn't "old age" slowing her down. It couldn't have been because she is so much more engaged now than she's been in over a year! Thank you to everyone at Forest Valley Vet! We recently had to say good-bye to our beloved little dog. Everyone at Forest Valley was so very kind and compassionate. As a retired veterinary technician, I have never been so disappointed. We were told to sedate our cat with gabapentin before every visit. Just crazy! Also, we had our cat spayed and were not given appropriate instructions on aftercare. We were later advised from another source that she should have been put into a crate for several days and given some sort of pain medication. They gave us nothing and advised us to just keep her on a leash? A cat! Due to surgical complications we are now having to follow up with another veterinarian. read more

Took my dog there & they had us set out in the good in our truck. They said they would come & get us as soon as they had a room open. We checked back 4 different times throughout the day & you always had excuse after excuse - oh you're next, next time was on there is one person in front of you- well excuse me but you're waiting room is empty & there is no other vehicle in the parking lot. You don't care one bit about a sick animal one bit so i Give you a MINUS 10 STARS ( -**********) There is no excuse for the 4 different excuse you gave us sitting there for over 4 hours from our appointment time and having the poor animal sitting in the vehicle for that long or even longer cause the HELL with you for not Helping out a sick animal. The staff has always been nice during the harder times with our pets. Regular appointments are a nightmare though. So many staff members and the wait time is always ridiculous. The wait in the lobby leads to another, even longer wait in the exam room. It makes me feel rushed when I finally get to see someone. The first couple of times I thought maybe it was because of an emergency appointment or something. But it is EVERY time. I will remember snacks and a good book next time. read more

I brought my rabbit, Cow, in today after an illness scare. Dr.Behrends and the vet tech, Chris, were beyond helpful, incredibly understanding, and were very gentle with my rabbit. After a previous poor experience at a different vet, I was very nervous, but Dr.B was amazing. Will definitely be seeing them in the future read more

I am NOT impressed by this vet. Pro-they fit me in on short notice. Cons-the vet was super unfriendly to my dog (he kept pushing her away when she'd try to sniff him -super high priced by the time I left the office my bill was $524.00 (we went in due to vomiting and diarrhea) -they literally carried a dead dog (that had just been euthanized) through the lobby into the back. My regular vet wasn't able to fit my girl in today which was the only reason I was there. I will not go back ever. read more

Wow, just moved here to Cottage Grove. We have 4 cats and need a veterinary home for them. It's check-up time for all 4. This Forest Valley website looked great, so I called for info. First call I was on hold for 10 minutes, then they hung up on me. Called right back and the lady who answered was extremely short and almost RUDE, I think she wished she didn't have to answer the phone. Must hate her job. I just wanted some basic information. This is the vet I chose when my wife and I got our dogs. They've always been friendly, helpful and supportive. I had to take one that wasn't doing great in last weekend...I called, and despite already being double booked, they said to bring him in. After doing some X-Rays, I made the soul-crushing decision to end my best friend's suffering. The staff was tender and supporting as I sobbed until well after he had crossed over the rainbow bridge. It felt like the whole office mourned with me. He wasn't just one of their patients, they made me feel like they thought of him as *their* dog too, and it was touching. Yesterday, as I was going through the mail, I found a card from the clinic expressing their condolences and was signed by everyone...and inside it was a small card with his paw print on it. I immediately started crying again (heck, I'm doing it *now* writing this), but I was again touched at the effort they went through. I didn't ask for it, but they'd done this and sent it to me. I'll miss my constant shadow for the rest of my life...but these fine people have given me something of him to remember and cherish along with my memories. This vet will continue to get my business for as long as I own pets, and every *single* person I talk to who ever speak of needing a vet or pet care will be sent their way. read more

Forest Valley is the only Dr's office that is never too busy to help your pet, because they understand that your 'pet' is more than a pet they are your family. I have had a few emergency's over the years and they have always said to come right in. They have always treated them like they were their family too. Then to get that little hand print in a card is more precious then you could imagine it is something that I will keep forever. I would not take my pets here!!! They killed my cat.. I took it in to get spayed they called me 5 hours later to tell me there were complications BEFORE she went into surgery... Do they not know simple math ... Cats weight to anesthesia ratios! Are you kidding me. My other cat was taken here previously for an eye surgery, which they botched the first time and had to do again... and they still messed it up and billed me twice for it... Should have learned my lesson the first time, I would have saved my cat from death due to this veterinary clinic malpractice... Absolutely the worst experience. I took my dog (my beautiful German Shepherd) in for diarrhea and pain in his legs. They did a full work-up on him and charged me $583, and told me they did not know what was wrong with him. They gave him pain meds and something for his stomach. After that was done, my dog did not improve. I called back and asked for a second prescription. They provided it. Again, no change. I took him back and we saw a different Vet who said my dog had swollen anal glands and that it was probably cancer. They gave him about 5 more meds and charged me another $150.00. My dog did not improve. A week later, I had to put my dog down because he was so sick and suffering. The Vet, who euthanized him, received the records from his Vet in Louisiana who put in the notes that my dog had prostate cancer. The Vets at this clinic had those records. The Vet in Louisiana and here never told us that my dog had cancer. I was told he had a mass on his prostate and neutering him would help. All this time my dog had cancer and nobody was honest with me. My dog suffered and we paid a lot of money to try and save a dog that was dying. Vets care more about their paycheck than the animal and the people who love their pets. It was a horrifying experience. I strongly suggest going to another clinic if you care about your animal and your wallet. read more

I've had appointments with each of the vets here, and like all of them! They can get pretty busy and sometimes run 15-20 minutes behind, but once you are with the vet they are thorough and don't make you feel rushed. They don't push products or procedures either which I appreciate. I've also called with a possible emergency which was handled over the phone (dog tried to eat a bee and got stung), gave him Benadryl and didn't need to spend $$$. Both my dogs seem comfortable there and all the staff are kind to them. Definitely give them a try! read more

Been going here for 15 years and pay before we leave every time. We called on a Saturday to make an appointment for our sick cat and were told they refused to see her because we went to collections. They could not tell me anything about our bill or the date of service that we went to collections for nor are they willing to accept a payment to see our animal. I have not received any bills from them or a collection agency. They couldn't even give me the dollar amount. Heartless policy. Horrible way to run a veterinarian clinic. Their policy just lost them a 15 year paying customer. read more

Had to leave this vet clinic because they tried to charge me for a visit that didn't happen. I refused to pay so they sent me to collections for a $35 visit that like I said...didn't take place. I went in to get a flea pill and the desk girl said I would have to be seen NEXT time so I think she must of wrote down that I had been seen. Too bad because I really liked 'em there. read more

I would give no stars if it was an option! The most neglectful Doctors I have come across in 38 years. They did not address the issue I repeatedly brought my pet in for and did not put this problem in his chart. They addressed some minor issues and when my pet needed to be brought back for the original problem I get charged for another visit. I pay my bills in full every time I go in and try not to get to upset about the additional charges. This last time was unacceptable. I was in 1 week ago for the original issue that started 1year ago and yet it has never been put in his chart or fixed. They treat him for something but not the main issue. After spending over $230 last week and hundreds more previously, on whatever they decide to treat him for, they would not treat him today for the issue I keep bring him in for without at least another $200 paid today. The Doctor said it could be very dangerous if untreated and yet refused to treat him without payment. Again I brought him in last week for this issue and have tried to have them address it many times prior. Now he is very sick. If you choose to still use this clinic I strongly suggest you read your pets chart before you leave. Do not trust these Doctors to have your pets health as a priority. Their passion is not in animals it seems to be in money. Note: I wasnt asking for an extended period of time to pay. This was Wednesday and I just needed until Friday to pay the balance in full. I was told I would have to bring him back Friday then, they could not teat him without payment. My pet was sent away sick and in pain! read more

Been going to Forest Valley for over 30 years, starting with Dr. Bill. Ever since his passing the practice has never been the same. The current crop of vets and support staff have pretty much zero client warmth or concern. I don't go to my vet to get a dose of that "corporate culture" vibe. Today, I think, was the last straw. Took my pooch in to check out some scabbiness on her head. They kept me waiting in the exam room for an hour. When I finally came out to ask what was going on, they said they had an emergency. Well you could have come and told me that and asked if I wanted to reschedule. Ya' know, my time is worth something too. Then the doc finally comes in, spends five minutes with me, shaves a small spot on pups head to get better look, says it's probably allergy related and sends me on my way with some antibiotics. For that I was charged $110; outrageous. That's it. No more. Taking my business elsewhere. read more

Dr. Behrends and the staff here are wonderful. They are attentive, friendly, experienced, and compassionate. Not to mention affordable -- you can tell they're dedicated to making good healthcare accessible for as many animals (& their parents) as possible. They don't make you feel rushed, even when they're busy or things are running behind -- they take their time to sit down with you and your pet, answer questions (even the silly ones!), explain conditions and care and procedures, and make you feel confident that your best buddy is in good hands. I was really nervous about anesthesia and our dog/fuzzbaby going under for the first time. Dr. Bruce, the technicians/nurses, and the front desk staff were incredibly understanding, accommodating, and reassuring. We've been to vets that were super expensive but not nearly as awesome as Dr. Bruce and his team. We're total overattentive, worry-wart dog parents, and we left a previous vet for these folks because, even after our very first appointment, we already trusted them to do the best job. And that's exactly what they did, from start to finish. Our little dude is doing great, thanks to these guys. I consider us lucky to have found them! Thank you for what you guys do! read more
