Wish I would've seen the reviews first. After buying here, I realized they were severely inflating prices (profiteering), upcharging by 70% -100%. Yes, you read that correctly, increasing prices by 100%. As in, I found several products, including wigs, that I had bought from this store (same exact brand, style, and color) and realized this store had charged me almost DOUBLE. All the stickers about the regular/retail price and sale prices, are LIES. There is sometimes a bit of an increase when you purchase an item in store, SOMETIMES, MAYBE 10-15%, but it should NEVER be as high as 70% or 100%. Some of their sale prices, are higher than the FULL retail price online. This is called profiteering. (Similar to price gauging). Any style or item you see, you can find at Sam's Beauty online or other stores, for almost half the price. It's obvious they do this based on the race of their customer base, as it is mostly black. When I came back here a second time, I did notice what the other reviewers are saying was true. They DO follow black customers around the store, or hover over them as they shop, especially if they are buying hair, wigs, etc. This is what made me leave, decide to shop online, and ultimately how I found out that they were profiteering, excessively inflating prices. DO NOT SHOP HERE. Don't give your money to businesses who treat people of color like this, and don't make excuses for them just because you may have had a good experience, when others clearly did not... I'm a little shocked reading quite a bit of these reviews because I haven't had this experience at all. Clearly African-American and a woman, and all the Asian employees have been really nice and friendly to me. I have definitely been to a couple of beauty supply stores that are EXACTLY how the rest of these reviews describe, but the team here is pretty chill with me. Either I'm catching them on really good days or it's the products I buy. I don't go in here for anything other than relaxer, various facial wash, hair oil and then a couple random things like eyebrow razors. I bring this up because the odds of me returning anything are slim to none. I'm not trying to discredit these other reviews. I've just never been put in a position where I had to return anything. This place kinda reminds me of Kohls. They're forever trying to give me a discount on something even if I didn't ask for it. And that's before I can punch in my rewards phone number. I think they've been here a couple years now. I used to visit a separate beauty supply store on Howard, but this one is larger. The aisles are still congested if two people are in the same aisle, but traffic is fairly light. About the only time I had a problem was with a non-Asian employee. I asked if she worked there because I needed to find something, and she rolled her eyes at me and said "No." I kept walking, and she stopped me to tell me she did indeed work there. No name tag. No kinda uniform. But she was putting things away, so that's why I thought she was either a really neat customer (I worked in retail before so I'm the type to reorganize shelves as a customer) or an employee. I saw her one time and never again, so it seems like they get rid of rude employees. Again, I don't discredit what any of the people in this comment section are saying. But my PERSONAL experience with them over the past couple of years has always been pretty easygoing and polite. They don't play about their metal detectors going off and will stop you, but I saw that in my childhood (black-owned) beauty supply store too. read more

I want to start by saying this store has almost everything you could need for hair care. I also want to say that I've spent LOTS of money at this establishment. Yesterday 11/24/24 I went in as usual and bought some products. When I got home to use one of the products the bottle broke. I immediately called the store and spoke with someone named James. He told me I could bring it back and get an even exchange as long as it was within 7 days and I had the receipt. I went back today 11/25/24 to exchange the product and was met by an associate that immediately told me "you dropped that! We can't exchange it." I was taken aback because I knew I hadn't dropped it and I was now being accused. I told her that I had spoken to James yesterday and he told me it was ok. After accusing me and telling me should couldn't exchange the product. She then took her cell phone out and said "let me call him to see" after speaking to him for about 2 minutes and examining the bottle she went behind the register and said "you wanna exchange it right? Go get the product" I said "yes I'd like to exchange it" and went to get the new product. Once I made it back to the register she proceeds to say "don't bring this back again and don't break this one. I won't exchange it again." I then expressed how she had accused me of dropping the bottle and LYING about being told I was able to exchange the product. She then says "Show me you can use it because if it breaks again I'm not taking it back" I then asked her to show me as it was her product in her store. SHE DIDN'T KNOW HOW AND THE BOTTLE DID NOT WORK FOR HER AT ALL. She continued to stand her ground about not taking it back even though she couldn't show me the proper way to use the bottle! Staff is very rude. I have been shopping here for years and the last two times I was 1st chased down because the alarm beeped while I was entering and this last time I was told I can't spray a mousse as I was heading to the register. I can understand policy but the clerk ran over to my daughter and I like we just committed a felony. Next thing you know there was 6 employees yelling at us. As we were leaving one lady comes to the door to say something else and I asked her if she wanted to step outside...she said no! This beauty supply store opened in the former Unique thrift store building and I was so happy because the one I used to go to had a fire and had been closed for months now. This space is quite large and has a great selection of a wide variety of beauty products. My daughter and I went in looking for 2 items and we came out having spent over $60! Prices are very good and they're offering 10% off right now for their grand opening. They also have a rewards program that the cashier was happy to tell me about. Everyone who works there was very nice and helpful. I bought their reusable bag for 7 cents and I'm keeping it in my car because I definitely plan to return. read more

Love this store! I always come here for any beauty or hair supplies I need whenever I'm running out. Price wise this is a lot cheaper than Target, Walmart, etc. and the quality is just as good. I used to come here all the time but I had one experience that made me look into other beauty supply stores around the area. I had an experience where I went in 15 minutes before closing and they closed the lights on me right at 7:30 pm. I had grabbed some red extensions, but since the lights were off I couldn't really see the shade was completely different from the hair color. I asked if I would be able to return if it doesn't match my hair color, and they said yes as long as it's in the original packaging. I didn't remove not one wire, or plastic, I simply pulled out a strand to see the color from behind the plastic. I came in to return and the cashier told me I would not be able to return them because they were used... like are you serious. You might as well say all sales are final so that people will not waste their money thinking they can return if they "adhere to your rules." Ontop of that I had to dye the extensions to match my hair, and it is the worst crappiest hair ever. They don't even deserve one star!!!! I am not only contacting the BBB on this business but since just getting hung up on by the male employee because I asked for a manager, he said there is not one. I then asked for the owners name so I may contact him at which time he told me he's too busy and sorry, nothing he could do. I simply wanted to know if they were going to honor the reward I received for spending the amount that I have spent since they opened. In return he stated " I can not, it's not a profit for us and that 5-star program that they have is its own business " . I then informed him that your owner had to have implemented this and paid for it so customers like myself and others who have spent upwards of $200.00+ per visit get text messages with special rewards for their spending at this establishment. He then said he was busy and they would not honor what was sent to my phone and has forever beauty in the reward earned. This is an illegal practice and he should have been more aware of whom he was so rude to. Not only is my career in politics but as a Proud and strong Black woman who has only shopped here since opening, I feel after being hung up on that I need to see this through. Not for any type of reward or rudeness but for the principle of the issue at hand. Not only is it false advertising, it's breaking 4 federal laws that are just at the top of my head and as far as state laws, well the owner should really have a word with his employees about how to treat each customer according. For those of you who do shop and spend you money here , I would stock up because I plan on making sure this never happens again to anyone no matter race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation etc.... To the owner Mr. Yang, Sir it would be in your best interest to make sure you're there on Monday 12-17-23 around 11:30am when I make one final attempt at reaching you. Hypothetically, you may have an inspector at your business before Friday and even one infraction can cause them to shut you down until fixed. Sir, that's just the start hypothetically to your doors being shut permanently. No one likes a tyrant nor to be treated as if your customers are thief's..... maybe you should consider some sensitivity training for your staff which is rude, intrusive and ultimately uninviting for current and future customers. I really wanted to give this five stars all the way but as an African-American women, I find it insulting that they follow you around in the store even though they have closed- circuit television... they follow you. They do have a vast selection of beauty products but they are mostly selling wigs and weave, i am natural so I can't comment on the quality of the wigs. I went into this store to purchase eyelashes. I paid for them and tried to leave. As I passed through the detector it started beeping. The guy behind the counter took my bags i had with me and passed the through the detector no beeping. Then asked me for my purse and waved it through the detector it beeped. He gave me the purse back then asked me to look into it. Before I could he snatched it from my hands and proceeded to look. I even hate to give them this one star. I purchase a pair of $100 Andis Liners. Got home and they didn't work. I brung them back the very next day the owner changed his fake customer service friendliness as long as you buying something, to a rude and condescending manner, Accusing me of maybe dropping them. They open a new box after twisting their hand and began to show me that the new ones (exchanged) worked. The owner was bending down to put the supposedly exchange one's back in the box which I believe he put the ones that I brought back in the box, I get home and the exchanged ones didn't work either. I bought the reddish water wave wig 24 inches for$181.00 it was the worse wig I had ever bought in my life. It is not human hair it tangled a and natted I wore it 2 times I had to put it in the garbage the only good thing I can say about it is that the color is very pretty I would never buy hair form this company ever again. I came into the store and bought some items. When trying to pass through the door the beeper happened to go off. My bags where checked, my jacket was checked and they found nothing. The man from the register still accused me of stealing and tried to call the police on me even though he literally found nothing!!! As they were calling the police they found that what was beeping was a sensor on my dress that wasn't taken off. The sensor wasn't caught when I first entered the store but started beeping as I tried to leave. They scolded me to go take the sensor off and dismissed me without apologizing for trying to call the police on an innocent person!!
