I Love Lustre Skin Boutique! Jennifer is a warm and kind person. She has a lot of knowledge about skin care. There are many excellent products for sale and services available. It is so valuable to have someone who knows products, who can refer you to the products that can help your conditions. I have wasted so much money on products that don't help me. My condition is related to rosacea and using the products and the peels I receive from her, you can't tell I have any such condition. I always look forward to going to see her. The boutique is comfortable, relaxing, clean, and beautiful. When you go there you are her one and only client at the time. You get one on one treatments and consultations. I have been to a good number of spas but I will never let anyone touch my face except Jennifer! I'll get other treatments but never facials from anyone else. MY STORY 10 years ago I had a horrible skin condition. I went to a dermatologist who told me that they really couldn't do anything about it. They said the only thing they would suggest was to give me antibiotics for the rest of my life! That was unacceptable to me. They didn't have a specific name for the condition but it was in the realm of rosacea. My skin was very red and irritated on my cheeks. I had whiteheads, extremely dry skin, all over my face at the same time plus my face was burning in pain. I used every product I could find at Whole Foods and wasted a ton of money. Anything I put on my face seemed to make it worse. If I popped the whiteheads, they would come back within hours. This was a horrible condition and I was at the point of never leaving my house again. It was really that awful. I happened to stumble across Jennifer, the owner and the only provider of services at Lustre Skin Boutique. She knew exactly what to do. I started getting a number of peels on a regular basis. My condition got better right away and within a few months I couldn't even tell I had it! I was very angry at the doctors who told me there was nothing that could be done. I'm not sure why they don't know about these kinds of treatments but this was very serious, in my opinion. It wasn't just about how I looked but my face was in a lot of pain. However, if I go too long without the peels, the condition does come back. During Covid I was unable to see her for almost 2 years. My skin almost went back to the original condition it was in. I called her and asked what I could do and she sent me products that kept it at bay. However I knew I needed some peels. I also want to add that she does not push products on you. She has a lot of knowledge and can tell you what each product does and if it will be beneficial to you. I never feel like she's trying to pressure me to spend more money. If you have a skin condition that you are struggling with, I highly recommend her. She will work with you one on one and find a solution. I read the great reviews about this place and it was as great as everyone said! Jennifer is super sweet and the boutique is really cutely decorated. It's right across the street from Federales. My friend and I booked facials- my friend did the custom facial and I had an ultimate custom facial. Since Jennifer was the only one working that evening, my friend and I had our facials booked back to back. We sat in the waiting area and brought our own books while waiting for each other. If the weather had cooperated we could have gone upstairs to the rooftop! It was my friend's first time getting a facial so Jennifer asked her what she was wanting to get out of the facial/what problems she wanted to address and explained to my friend what her plan of attack was. Jennifer also went over with me what my facial would be comprised of- mine was a glycolic peel followed by microderm abrasion and extractions. But here it is: I love Lustre and highly recommend it and think that it is one of the best places, by far, to have skincare things happen to you. And yet I purposefully did not review it because it was a hidden gem and I was scared that if it got too popular it would cease to be the perfect place that it was. And is. It's probably because I've been traumatized by it happening so many times. A place is great for awhile. Then it gets a write up in whatever blog/mag, people start flocking, stuff starts changing, and soon all the good is gone. But that's no reason not to give credit where credit is due. Because of Lustre, people actually think that I have good genetics. I don't. What I had was a facial and mild peel once a month for a year. By a knowledgeable and skilled professional who knew what the hell she was doing and didn't play around (she's also really nice). I've received multiple treatments and services at Lustre which include body waxing, facials, a variation of peels (I suffered from cystic acne as a result of using birth control), micro-needling, and microblading. My skin has greatly improved and thanks to Jennifer, my acne scars are almost impossible to see! For the past few years, I've been treating myself to a biannual facial from Jen at Lustre and I'm not kidding when I say I look forward to it for weeks. The Boutique itself has an amazing electric yet calm energy. Pure white walls, dark cement floors, and huge windows that allow you to watch the Green line pull through the West Loop. You easily sense the pulse of the city, but fortunately the inside is a quiet well-designed temple. The facial procedure is a dream, held in a cozy private room. Jen is a master at knowing just the right product to use for any skin type. She balances extractions and peels with beautifully cooling spritzes and moisturizers and she gives a shoulder massage that is to die for! I have a tightly wound personality and I was so relaxed during one facial that I fell asleep! I also always appreciate talking to Jen after my facial to discuss skin maintenance. I will not have a chance to check out their services since they will not honor my living social deal. This is really my only recourse since I am not going to waste more time for $40. Here is what happened: I called to cancel and reschedule my appointment. I specifically asked if that would be a problem since I know some salons have a policy about 24 hr cancellation. The woman told me no problem, so I went on with my day. Later I got a phone call from another woman telling me I lost the appointment and $40. I am fine with policies, but how is it fair to inform me after it was too late? They must be the only or best salon in the city to feel justified in being so inconsiderate. I am reviewing Jennifer's microblading service. This is LONG. Briefly - Jennifer is awesome. MIcroblading is awesome. Jennifer is awesome at microblading!! If you need a place in the West Loop to get microblading, just go get a consultation with Jennifer, because she's really really sweet and very talented :) Ok here goes... Had thought about microblading for a little while, but wasn't sure if it was right for me so I booked a free consultation with Jennifer online, which was easy to do. I met with Jennifer and we talked for a while. We discussed the process - the before, during, and after. She spent a lot of time figuring out what kind of look I was going for and easily picked up on the fact that I was a bit apprehensive. It was really comforting to hear her say that she tended to be more conservative, since you can always add more at the next treatment. She explained that there are two treatments - the initial treatment and then one 6-8 weeks later. We went over what medications you can't take beforehand. She definitely spent as much time as I needed getting my questions answered and so I booked my first session for a week out. During that week Jennifer and I emailed back and forth a couple of times. I had a few questions about if I was allowed to work out before or after the treatment (yes you can but not a lot of heavy sweating, stuff like yoga and barre is fine). She also asked that I send her pics with and without makeup so she could get an idea of what results I wanted. So the day finally came and I was NERVOUS!!! I filled out the paperwork and we spent a lot of time talking. I wanted to talk through the healing processes, since she does dry healing. We discussed that the use of ointment can possibly pull the pigment out of your skin and so that is why she preferred the dry healing. She was so patient and answered all of my hundreds of repetitive questions She has a nice relaxing spa treatment room and everything is set up. She uses sterile equipment. First she places an adhesive ruler to your forehead and makes lots of measurements and markings. She shows you the markings and makes sure you're happy with it. Then she does this thing called "stippling" where she uses the microblading tool to poke your brows and then puts on numbing cream and plastic wrap. Then you hang out for a while and she mixed the color. She picks the color based on your skin tone, hair color, brow hair color, etc. She puts one dot on your forehead so you can see. If you're happy with it then after the numbing has set in, she goes to work and does one brow at a time. She goes back and forth from brow to brow and you can take breaks to see how it looks as she goes. It does hurt a bit when you get it done, but it's bearable. It's a little worse than getting your brows threaded. By the end there is a bit of throbbing. After it was done - HOLY COW! It looked amazing!!! She really is an artist!! I was so pleased. Definitely looked a lot darker than I want them to eventually turn out, but she warned of this beforehand and assured me that in the next two days it would get even darker and then finally start scabbing and peeling and would lighten. Throbbing went away by the time I walked home and it didn't hurt at all the rest of the day - I almost forgot I had it done! Over the next few days I didn't have any pain, the itching was minimal and the flaking was not noticeable except to me. I found it so hard to stick to the dry healing, but I did it!! It felt so good to finally get my face all wet after 10 days! I am so happy with how it turned out and I cant wait to get the touch up, as there are some areas I want filled in a bit more. I will say everyone has commented on how good my brows look - they're bewildered by how good they look :) read more

This salon is super cozy and you'll always receive a warm welcome with your unbeatable service. The custom facial is great for trouble skin, or any skin for that matter. Their skincare line, Eminence, is completely organic and free of chemicals. These products are used for the facials. You will love/buy them. Cynthia gave me a handful of samples for products she thought would work well with my skin type (the epitome of combination skin) , so I didn't have to buy them then stick them in the 'not-exactly-what-I-was-looking-for-but maybe-for-another-season' drawer. They also do some top-notch waxing. Of course it hurts, you're ripping hairs out of your skin, but they're quick, sanitary and give great maintenance tips. My roommate loves their massages as well, so that's next on my list. It definitely beats every other salon in the 'hood, including the pricier/snobbier ones. Great facial in a super cute and cozy little space! Had the 60min Custom Facial with Cynthia last week....I just wanted to relax during my treatment so I asked her not to give me a play by play of everything she was doing to my face. It seemed pretty straightforward.....some cleansing....a mask or two....steam.....extractions (which were quick, easy and painless....yay).....and a fantastic shoulder rub. I really liked the products that she used....they smelled great and felt good.....I believe it is an all natural organic line called Eminence. The table that they use for facials is incredibly comfortable....it was the very first thing I noticed when I laid down.....more like a bed....mmmmmm! Afterwards.....she gave me her opinion of what my skin needed etc....but wasn't at all pushy about products....which I definitely appreciate.....she did give me a few samples to take home of things I was interested in trying.....which I appreciated even more :) I've been getting facials for the last 15 years.....I've had some pretty horrible experiences and some pretty fantastic ones as well....this one falls towards the latter. I have been going for 3 months for facials and microdermabrasion. I have become a fan. The place is tucked upstairs in a cool loft space. There are two people who would do facial treatments, Jennifer and Erin. I got Erin to start and have been happy with her. The environment is soothing and relaxing and she focuses on using natural products. This place is everything I need to slip in a midday facial. Not quite a big spa place with locker rooms and waiting room, more like visiting a designed conscious loft to see your friend who will also give you a facial. I went to see Jennifer after finding her on lifebooker Message me if you want the code. I had an appointment for a facial that I booked online from above. I showed up and used the buzzer. I realized this is one of those places that its just the facialist and you. No front desk, etc so if she is with another client, it might be a second (learned that from calling like 3 times on the buzzer, ha) The space is super swanky white and bright. I loved it. The room/table is excellent for relaxation. Jennifer asked me my concerns and then told me her plan. She did a Jessner peel and then extractions and massage. I have to say, the peel took me by surprise. After a few minutes, my face felt like it was burning off. But she neutralized and all was well without me even saying anything. Hey, I will do anything for great skin. Next up the extractions. I had some acne that was hormonal and very deep :( She did an excellent job at getting this out. I was really impressed. While she was extracting, I was extremely hesitant because there was a lot of pressure. Alas, this chick knew what she was doing! She got everything under, out. I was extremely pleased. Great massage and pressure for the facial after as well. She really did a great job. I am definitely thinking about having Jennifer be my new facialist. I think with her skills regularly, I can get rid of some skin problems I have been having. I am sure after next time, I will be updating my review to 5 stars. Spoke to Jennifer. Rude over the phone and rather condescending. The upward inflections at the end of every sentence plus the attitude and ego were just too much. She was miscommunicated information from the owner of the business and called me with a "what do you want?" attitude. I'm not even bothering going in person. I don't need to be your customer at all. Delete my number. You can be the most highly skilled person in your craft. However, if you do not monitor your attitude, it will catch up with you in the long-term. Customer care involves not making your potential customers feel uncomfortable, interrogated or as if they have done something wrong by contacting you. Beyond the spa space being so beautiful, relaxing, and spacious, more importantly, Jennifer is such a lovely person and so very talented and professional. She explained the process thoroughly and is a perfectionist. She made sure every step of the way to show me the shade and shape before she started microblading and also made sure that the numbing was in full effect before starting. Jennifer is amazing! I have gone to her for the last 6 months for regular facials to prepare for my wedding. She really takes the time to understand your skin, goals and timeline and I really appreciate that! I know that when I go to Jennifer, I will get an awesome facial with no upsell because whatever she wants to do (extractions, peels, microderm, etc) is all included in the Luxe Custom facial. She also does an awesome massage and I leave feeling so refreshed! In between facials with Jennifer I tried out a hotel spa in the suburbs with my Mom because it was convenient but this facial was NOTHING like Jennifer's! It was much more expensive and they didn't even do extractions which for my acne prone skin is the most important part! I had no idea how spoiled I was at Lustre until this experience.
