This is definitely the hot spot of Mukwonago. During lunch it's pretty slow and dinners and pretty crowded. But no matter what time you come it's probably noisy. The place does not do well with sound: while eating lunch here I hear everyone's conversations and at dinner time all you hear is a muffle of voices. As far as waitresses go, the few times I've been here they haven't been the greatest. They do their job but they don't do any more. And sometimes they don't even do it. I've had glasses empty on the table and no waiter near by and I've waited for my check for a longer than normal time. The check ups by the waiters aren't the greatest. The food here is okay. I think I depends on what you order. The all you can eat fried chicken on Wednesday's is good. The chicken is hot and crispy. The melt I had wasn't anything above and beyond. The macaroni is really good though! And the wraps here are alright. Average food with a high price though! ($22 for a half rib) The interior inside is pretty nice. The place looks clean. The food was tasty enough. Huge portions but splitting items worked out well for us. The low rating is because of the hostess - she was rather rude and "snippy". We were a party of three (one being my 89 year old mother), and our party was missing one person upon our arrival at 5pm. (I tried making a reservation earlier in the day, however, the restaurant only offers a limited number and none were available for our requested time of 5pm). Since our party was not complete, we were told that policy restricted us from being seated until our 3rd person arrived. The frustrating part was the restaurant was fairly empty, so why make us wait? To the hostess - sometimes bending the rules goes a long way to providing excellent customer service. In our case, you failed miserably. read more

We are locals so we've given the new ownership quite a few chances to impress. I feel like the only thing that impresses me are the waitresses/waiters... especially Lori.. she is our favorite. The owner seems to hate life standing at the hostess station. I have yet to see her smile and for us to feel welcomed. We gave the place another whirl last night. Happy Pants was at the podium and flatly said "we don't have any tables. We stop seating at 7.30p (it was 6.58 and my husband mentioned that).. you can see if you can find a spot at the bar if you want to try and eat." Miserable lady. Always cold food too. Every time we eat there.. I have to be ready to eat cold mac and cheese if I want it. When Dennis owned the restaurant.. he would always smile and greet customers and make sure everything was great. I get that owning a restaurant is stressful and keeping great staff is hard.. but for the love of God.. don't let your customers see that stress on your face the second they walk in. We will NOT be back (unless you turn your frown inside down or Dennis comes back). We went to have the most lovely dinner at Castaways... food was amazing, the staff were incredible and welcoming. Visited today for the first time. I had heard so many good things. We got there right as they opened so we chose a table outside far away from everyone. They did a nice job distancing the tables. Our server came over quickly and he was friendly and respectful of space. He also had his mask on correctly, something I have not experienced at many restaurants. We got drinks and took a look at the menu. I chose the spinach and artichoke chicken sandwich. Our drinks and food came out in appropriate times. The sandwich was very good. I also go the Apple salad as my side and highly suggest that. The two I was with got the cheese brisket sandwich and the pork sandwich, they both got the Mac and cheese. Their reviews of their food was good as well. We went nuts and got dessert also, I got the eclair cake. It was very good and certainly large enough that I should have shared. I was recommended here by a friend, and it lived up to expectation. The restaurant is very cute and spacious. The staff all wore masks, there were extra hand sanitizers around, and they spaced out the tables. The service was excellent, very quick and helpful. We ordered the wings for an appetizer which were delicious and could work as a meal - you get so many. Their cherry old fashioned was a great addition to our meal, such a Wisconsin establishment. I had to order the Mac n Cheese for dinner since people rave about it, and it was so tasty. A huge portion and so much flavor. It also came with their house salad which was out of this world. I had their Saturday special, the prime rib for dinner. It was the best prime rib I've ever had! The au jus was perfect, the garlic mashed potatoes were good, and their specialty house salad was a good portion and delicious! And their chocolate eclair torte was sweet and tasty too! My mother had the ribs and she said they were tender and fell right off the bone. She said the sauce tasted a little too vinegary but it did not stop her from eating all of them. She got tons of sides-coleslaw, mac n cheese, cornbread with cinnamon butter and fries. How can you beat that price for all that food? I would definitely recommend checking it out. They have a nice outdoor eating area out back with umbrellas. The owner also came out and asked us how everything was going and tasting, which is nice to see they care about their patrons. Samantha their server was wonderful along with their hostess staff. Their brandy old fashioned was excellent, which really rounded out a beautiful night outside in the summer. read more

We used to love going to Fork in the Road, but won't be back again. They now have a little sign on the tables saying that $1 per person will be charged extra to give a tip to the kitchen staff. Now it's not enough to tip a waitstaff person, we also have to tip the kitchen staff. Why don't you pay your staff what they should make and stop expecting us to supplement their pay? It's not like they even ask if you would like to add extra for the kitchen staff. You just get charged whether you think they did a good job or not. At least with the waitstaff you can give what you think they deserve for the service you got. read more

There's a lot of history in this building that houses this casual restaurant. There is a parking lot however street parking is easy to find as well. The restaurant has a bar area as you walk in and a large dining room to the left. Both the hand breaded chicken and short rib were excellent choices for our entrees. The full bar has a nice variety of cocktails, martinis, wines, cider, and beers. Our server was attentive and provided great service. We'll be back to try out the rest of the menu. read more

Used to love it. Not so much anymore. Went for lunch on 9/7 at 11am. There were 6 of us. We were waiting on 2 people. There were maybe 4 tables total. It wasn't busy. We convinced hostess to sit at an outside table as their policy is you can't sit until your entire party is there. (IMO That policy makes sense when it's a weekend or busy time). Then we got up, went inside and asked for menus and water. Within 5 minutes all 6 of us were there. The hostess was SO rude I couldn't believe it. She said she was the manager. We actually left and ate somewhere else. I feel bad for people that work there. I've never experienced anything that rude. All 6 of us work in a restaurant (we are servers so we understand). Went on a Saturday night with no reservation. Love that they take your number and you can get live updates online for your place in line. Got drink at bar and didn't have to wait long. 3 drinks, House salad (with amazing warm bread), entree (I got fish and husband got prime rib) & dessert was amazing! Agreed that the fork is not what it used to be. Was always my favorite stop when at the lake but now there food is not as good, the menu has changed and the hours of operation are ridiculous. To order two salads to go it takes over 2.5 hours before it can be picked up. I understand that they may not be able to accommodate to go orders but then no longer offer. In addition they now only seat till 7:30. I walked today in and was told I couldn't sit at a table because of this new policy come to find once getting to my car it was only 7:05. Continually disappointed more and more by the fork over the last 3 years. read more

Had lunch there with my wife today. Her salad was ok not very much for the price though. I ordered the Rueben and Fries. The food came hot and plate appeal was good. Starting eating both and at first i thought i was coming down with Covid as the sandwich had no flavor. The fries were overcooked and tasted almost to the burnt state. Will never be back. read more

Waited 20 minutes for a server and no one showed up. We saw them outside taking selfies. I asked one of the bus people if we had a server. She went outside to get one and still no one came. After 25 minutes, we left. We had stopped going here because I never really liked the food. It is expensive for what you get and everything is gloppy. We went back today because my daughter likes it. I only get to this part of Wisconsin, maybe once a year, but this is a great stop. I had their short rib special, that came with a delicious salad, mashed potatoes and small steamed carrots. My only complaint was the gravy. It tasted a bit too much like wine and had a purple grey color that was not very appealing. My hubby had their pepper cheese burger. It was also quite good and HUGE. The restaurant is quite plain, but the walls are decorated with black and white portrait photos of famous people from Wisconsin, ranging from Liberace to Frank Lloyd Wright. Simple, but cool. Will return next year on our annual trek to Southeast Wisconsin. read more

Family and friends out picking apples near Mukwonago and we were hungry. So we fire up Yelp.com on the iPhone and find this place nearby. Mukwonago is a cute enough town and so we slip in with four kids and six adults on a Saturday afternoon. We soon have our seats and menus and all of the adults are looking at each other and are stumped. Sooo many great looking choices and prices to match. Didn't know it when we walked in, however, we'd met the owner Dennis at the door and his punchy sense of humor shows on the menu. Better yet, the selection is followed by quality. Everybody had great meals, from homemade mac n' cheese, the blue cheese chips (think nachos) homemade french onion soup, and his own homemade aoli for the fries. Mine came with a habenero-lime...he even shared his recipe....how often does that happen? In fact he offered it and we were again so happily surprised. Good thing our friends have a home near this place, it will become a regular place in the near future. One of the nicest surprises we've had in restaurants in recent memory. read more

What a gem to find in a small town. I visited Mukwonago, from almost two hours south, to refill my Elegant Farmer supply. Searching for a lunch spot on Yelp, Fork seemed intriguing so we dropped in. The interior was incredibly inviting as it was homey, but not over the top. Also, I like the framed photos of famous Wisconsin residents on the wall. Good conversation starter. Danielle, who is ridiculously pretty, was our server. I asked about free refills on the Arnold Palmers and she mentioned that they were free on iced tea and Arnold Palmers, but not the flavored teas or the lemonade. So I appreciated her honesty. We both got the all you can eat fried chicken special. First, we got plates with a piece of cornbread, cinnamon butter, and cole slaw. I didn't like the slaw much, as I'm not a mayo fan. But the cornbread was so good, I willingly paid for an extra piece. And I would gladly buy a container of that cinnamon butter if I could have. We each got a half chicken. I liked the batter, it wasn't too bready like some chickens can be. The skin was crispy and each piece was really juicy. I finished my plate and was absolutely finished. Also, the mashed potatoes were really good, they had a nice garlicky flavor to them. When I return to this part of Wisconsin, I'll be sure to stop by again. read more
