From the outside, it's hard to tell that Forman's has an awesome bar and outside patio. Inside, you'll find a full service bar with seating in the middle and on the sides. Specializing in whiskey, they also feature local brews from solid brewers like Paperback Brewing from Glendale. I tried the Bunny With a Chainsaw from Paperback - very smooth and easy drinking despite it being a double hazy IPA. If you're not into hoppy beers, this is the one for you. There were nine of us, so we used the outside patio area. Each table comes with its own QR code and you can have your own tab which makes it easy to order when you're in a large group. Lit up with outdoor patio lights with a cork oak tree in the middle, it's scenic enough with a casual, yet lively atmosphere. I ordered the fish tacos ($11) which came with two tacos, the fish itself was a frozen deep fried fillet, a bit on the tough side, however the rest of the taco fillings were fresh. Also tried the Brussels sprouts with balsamic reduction ($12) - these were done right! Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. This used to be our neighborhood go-to, but after the strange interaction I had today, I probably won't be back. I approached the bar to order at three minutes before 3. This is notable because lunch ends at three, happy hour begins at three. There was no acknowledgment of my arrival, but no big deal. There was a man seated at the bar who was ready to order. Also fine. He asked if "this was a bar" and "do you have beer," and then said "it's happy hour, right? What's a minute or two." The female bartender with glasses says, "yeah, no problem." She pours his beer, processes his payment. Then, instead of approaching me to take my order, begins a bizarre conversation about middle schoolers having intercourse on school trips. Weird choice to make in our current social climate, but to each their own? While I waited for a break in their conversation, my dog said hi to another patron. As soon as I found an opportunity to speak, I asked if I could still get the lunch special. It was literally 3:01. I was told that since it was a minute after, it wasn't possible to even place the order, that the "button changes." So, the minute mattered for lunch, but not for happy hour. I am a Forman's regular. I absolutely love coming to Forman's on a Sunday night and wrapping up the weekend here. If you need something to chase away your Sunday night blues, you've got to get down to Toluca Lake and come to Forman's. This is an upper crust, high-end whiskey tavern with excellent food and sumptuous alcohol and a beautiful beer garden. There is really no place like it. I just sat outside on a beautiful Sunday evening in the balmy weather, with a cocoa and coffee infused old-fashioned with a fig in my hand, watching the game and savoring a fried chicken salad with chunks of avocado and sliced red grapes in a buttermilk ranch dressing. I had generous bites of my husband's Hickory burger and seasoned fries. Service is friendly and the setting is relaxed and comfortable. You won't find more creative whiskey cocktails anywhere. Food is outstanding. It is elevated far beyond your usual bar. Some of my favorites include the following: - Ahi tuna salad - rosemary nuts - turkey club - fried chicken salad - Louisiana wings Other entrées include the beet salad, the grilled cheese sandwich, and the fish tacos, not to mention other burgers and sandwiches and salads and starters. They have a couple of spots dedicated to the bar in the surface lot. You will have to walk to to the front, the back door isn't open. If all of the spots are taken, metered parking is your best bet. Ambiance (4/5): My type of spot. A chill bar with some cool decor. They have a small patio out front. We sat inside at a booth/chair combo. They also have some high tops and some seats at the bar. Service (2.5/5): I ordered drinks at the bar and there was only one bartender working at a peak hour on a Friday. As you'd expect, it took 10 minutes or so to get my drink. The type of bar experience where you want to close out after ordering a drink, so you don't have to wait in line again. Food (N/A): I had dinner plans after, so it was just drinks for me. Drinks (3/5): Since Forman's is a whiskey tavern, as you'd expect, whiskey is the focus of the menu. Unfortunately for me, I'm not a whiskey guy. They do have a decent number of cocktails that use other spirits, but the vast majority of the cocktails were spicy. Again, bad luck for me, as I'm not a spicy cocktail kind of guy. Unfortunately I've never eaten here but the food looks just as solid as the drinks! On Monday through Friday they have happy hour. Happy hour is from 2-6 where there select cocktails, wine beer and food items on the menu. Drinks are 6-9 dollars. The bar can get busy at this time. They do also have a patio area out back. Whiskey bar located in Toluca Lake with a very impressive selection of whiskey (my favorite). They have cocktails, beer, and bites as well, but of the times I've been here, I've mostly gone to get pours of the different whiskeys they usually have on hand here at more than reasonable prices. The decor has kind of an equestrian stable theme (I think) The folks here have always been really friendly and fair in terms of serving you in the order you come up to the counter. I've been here later in the evening a couple of times, but it gets a lot more busy/crowded as it gets later. The vibe in the early evening and during the day on the weekend is chill usually. Great happy hour deals and bites. I got the charcuterie board here and it was nice. I've had some of the other small bites as well and all have been solid to great. Okay, if you read this far: I would say this is my favorite place in all of LA to drink whiskey. Part of me wants to gatekeep, but they deserve all the business they get. Not only do they have an excellent selection, but they consistently get some rare gems that are not necessarily white whale status, so the prices are still in the mid teens to low twenties for some really quality pours. They do have higher end rare bottles, but of course you're going to pay up for that. The fact that these ultra rare bottles are there is another bonus if you have the funds and you want to partake. Recently, they changed the seats in the front and put uncomfortable short tables with no back rests, and less room. Please change the seats back to how it was and i will change my review to 5 stars. They don't have servers here, you'll need to place your orders at the bar, which can get a little old for drinks when it's busy... But the bartender was very friendly and helpful navigating the menu. I recently spent an evening with friends at Formans and it was an experience that exceeded my expectation. The outside of this Tavern doesn't match the charm of what awaits inside. The whisky selection is truly outstanding! From rare single malts to small batch bourbons and beautifully aged blends, theres something here for every palate. The bartender took time to ask about my flavor preferences and introduced me to a few options I might never have tried otherwise. Each recommendation came with a bit of history and tasting notes that made the experience even more memorable. Every pour was thoughtfully chosen and perfectly served: just the right temperature, no rush and plenty of time to savor each sip. Of course, there is Beer, wine and coctails.... although it is limited in comparison to whisky choices. And while the whisky alone would make this place worth visitng, the food adds to the experience. The menu is concise; however, the standout for me was the Tavern hamburger. Hands down one of the best I've had! Perfectly cooked, juicy and layered with just the right combination of toppings on a freshly toasted bun. It's the kind of burger that instantly makes you stop mid conversation to appreciate how good it is. The fries were just as impressive, from the crispy fries and brussle sprouts. Sitting outside in the backyard takes away a little bit from the charm and the service can be disapointing. It took a bit of patience to get a drink, but once I made it to the bar, the bartender was friendly, quick, and mixed up some seriously good cocktails. If you're an Old Fashioned fan, this spot is a must--they've got some fun variations on the classic that are worth trying. I've been here before for an event and remember the food being solid, and I've even ordered from them on DoorDash with great results--so they definitely hold up outside the bar scene too. While most of the seating looked first-come-first-serve, I did spot a few tables with reservation signs, so if you're planning to come with a big group, calling ahead would be smart because this place gets busy fast. One of my favorite bars! It's such a cute place to hang out, whether you're sitting inside or relaxing on the back patio. The food is amazing, definitely not your typical bar food. My go-to is the turkey club, and it never disappoints. Drink selections are great too, and my personal favorite is the Smokey Irishman. The only downside is that you have to order at the bar, and on busy weekends the line can get pretty long, which makes it a little tough to reorder drinks. We went to Forman's Whiskey Tavern on a Saturday evening with a group of four and were able to grab a table in the front. Ordering was easy using the QR code at the table to browse the menu. I ordered the Jalapeño Burger ($16), Tallow Fries ($5), and a Forman's Old Fashioned ($17). Others in our group had the Patty Melt ($15) and Michelob Ultras ($9). The food was excellent--definitely a step above typical bar food. Everything was well prepared and full of flavor. The Old Fashioned was especially well done and perfectly balanced. The place was clean and well kept, and the noise level was comfortable. Even on a Saturday night, we were able to have a normal conversation at our table without any trouble. I was going to give 1 star but decided on 2 only because of how professional Mark the manager was. We (my family & I) have been coming to Forman's for about 4 years now since my cousins moved in down the street. Every year since then, my cousin and her husband have celebrated almost every birthday here. We had a reservation yesterday for my cousins birthday and upon arriving we noticed an empty table next to us and we moved a reservation sign over to that one. At some point some guy very rudely approached our table and said "Did you guys move this" so we responded with yes and he slams the reservation clipboard on the table and walks away. We went to the bar for more food and drinks and as we're standing there waiting to order this guy is behind the bar talking about how "annoyed" he was with the group outside who moved the reservation sign and was now going to keep checking on us as if we were outside causing trouble. Throughout the time we were there this guy whose name is CORY was being extremely rude and aggressive with us. My cousins husband is a bartender himself, he's been in the industry for over 15 years and finally decided to speak to a manager after CORY very rudely told us to move while we were waiting to order some drinks at the bar. Mark the manager heard us out and apologized for the situation. We come to find out CORY is the "FLOOR MANAGER" here. Which made it even worse. He's extremely rude, passive aggressive, and unprofessional. To be talking about customers in front of other customers over a reservation sign is simply ridiculous. read more

I have been continually impressed with Forman's! It's a great gathering spot for coworkers, friends, or family. The happy hour is incredibly reliable and satisfying. It's the perfect way to start your evening with an old fashioned and some fish tacos. One of the reasons I know every drink at Forman's will be great is that they don't batch make any of them, like many similar bars in the area do. Each drink is freshly made to order. The space itself has something for everyone. The front porch is great for people watching, inside is loud and cozy, and the back patio has a wonderful atmosphere and room to spread out. I recently had a group meet at Forman's and it was so easy to make a reservation. Plus the staff was kind throughout the whole night when I had questions! I've only been to Forman's Whiskey Tavern once for a dear friend's birthday party, and while it's not at all close to my local area, I can definitely imagine myself returning. I don't drink very often, and I'm on a strict diet, which is code for "I generally either need to scour a menu to find things I can eat or put in extra special modifications to get things to my liking." Fortunately for me (and the server/bartender), Forman's has a good number of items to please even the most discriminating diner! Food: The food at Forman's is not your average bar food. This is quality food, masterfully crafted from quality ingredients. I enjoyed at least two orders of the grilled fish tacos as well as some Brussels sprouts. Those of you who follow my reviews know that if a restaurant has either of these items, it's a sure bet I will order them. Forman's has both, so you know it was chow time for me. The fish was moist, flaky, and best of all, piled HIGH. I'm in a constant state of hunger, so big servings of food I can eat are a sure way to my heart. Anna, my constant companion and wife, knows this, and once she say the gusto with which I attacked my first order of tacos, she surreptitiously ordered another plate for me. They didn't last long either. Like the tacos, the Brussels sprouts were delicious and well-prepared, the right combination of crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I mentioned that I rarely drink alcohol, so it was my great fortune that Forman's has a massive self-service water dispenser that is regularly refilled, but you can also order ice-water from the bar. I did both. More on that under "ambience." Service: The service was terrific. We ordered at the bar, but the food was brought out by servers, who also made themselves available to handle refills and the like. Everyone with whom I interacted was polite and professional, each person with an easy conversational style. I appreciate the excellent and swift service, and I also like unobtrusive service. Forman's staff excel in both regards. Ambience: Forman's has a terrific atmosphere. I'm not sure how to describe it, so I'm going to go with "Bavarian deep woods gastro pub chic:" lots of wood, steins, and other tchotchkes on every wall and ceiling. Very cool! There is plenty of seating, and for events, you can reserve tables. We had a reservation for 25 at a long table right in front of the bar. I could imagine Beowulf himself sitting at such a table in King Hrothgar's mead-hall. I noted earlier that I took advantage of all the water, which naturally necessitated a trip to two tot eh restroom. Like the resto of Forman's, the restroom was clean and well-maintained. I haven't been back to Forman's since my friend's birthday--this is her "local," as the Brits say--but I am already looking for an excuse to go back. All this talk of fish tacos has activated my appetite, so perhaps I'll make way way there again soon. Until then, give them a shot and let me know how you like it. read more

Came here on 5/23, a Saturday night. Had a reservation for 14 ppl for my 30th birthday ended up being about 25 people (oopsie) but the patio was SUPER accommodating!! They have a QR code now on the tables where you can order from and pay from your phone and a server brings everything out for you. My work friend organized a no-host get together at this place on a Thursday at 5pm, and that's what brought me here. I read some of the other Yelp reviews ahead of time, and knew to expect a convivial atmosphere. My friends had reserved an area of the backyard garden/patio for our group of around 20-25 people, and they had allocated 3 tables for us. There is 2nd bar right in the backyard garden that has a much shorter drinks and food line. I appreciate that, as mentioned in other reviews, there was an option to order my food vegetarian. The staff even asked me about my fries, and if I wanted them vegetarian. Very, very good atmosphere. Staff came by often to pick up the empty dishes and glasses.
