Excellent cocktails, great lowkey but immersive experience brought into the bar design itself. Highly recommend for fans of fallout and other post-apocalyptic genres. Bartenders are excellent and mix with precision. Recommend parking more westward on Ventura blvd, east bound has little parking.

Better duck, cover, and start running from wherever you've been going lately, because The Last Canteen is the first place you should be heading right now for great drinks, retro-cool vibes, and some very good food. This creatively concocted bar on Ventura just East of Vineland (adjacent to breakfast hot spot Vivian's) has only been open about a month, and you should be paying attention pronto. Decked out like a cross between a 1950's atom bomb shelter and a makeshift army canteen somewhere in the South Pacific during WWII, it's got a vibe you're not going to find anywhere else. The music playing over the sound system is an eclectic mix of styles, but all from post-war, mid-century America. The servers are similarly adorned in mid-century outfits, and offer up the kind of friendly, welcoming personalities you'd expect if you took a time machine back to a neighborhood watering hole sometime before the launch of Sputnik. The Happy Hour menu is brief but hearty, with a nice selection of drinks and a few nibbles at discounted prices. But even the regular prices are reasonable by today's standards, and you won't at all mind spending what they're asking. The drink menu is a combination of traditional cocktails, tiki stalwarts, and contemporary combos, all featuring top quality liquor. They also have a "house whiskey" that's a secret recipe blend of many whiskeys, and I'm here to tell you the appealing flavor profile smoothly masks a hidden potency. It's good, good stuff. My House Old Fashioned, made with that house whiskey, was strong but had a contrasting sweetness in the background, making it a very balanced drink. My wife's Piña Colada also landed with a sweet kick, and was quite refreshing to boot. On the food side, the Tinned Sardines (somehow both bomb shelter relevant and utterly of the Saltie Girl moment) were spicy, tasty and very satisfying, while fried Brussels Sprouts were fresh, funky and feisty with their balsamic glaze. An order of nachos, topped with house made Bison Chili, was amply proportioned and nicely served, though the sweetness of the chili was not to our liking. To be fair, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the chili, we just prefer ours with more heat than sweet, and that's on us, not them. Lastly, a frosty cold cowboy boot of their house made sarsaparilla was bright and crisp and wholly enjoyable as the back to an extra shot of that specially blended whiskey. This place is not only a hoot, but a fantastic hoot. Bartender, Edwin, and co-owner, Jimmy, were friendly as can be, and I'm certain the neighborhood will embrace this MASH-like outpost the minute they know it's here. But go now!!! Show them some love!! I may see you, because I'm gonna be back very soon... maybe tomorrow. Hell, it's early... maybe later tonight!!!

We came here on a weekday during happy hour. Immediately the decor blew us away with how awesome and detailed it was! Every part of the space was themed- from the bar, to the bathrooms, to the patio, and even the ceilings. I had the frozen lemonade from the happy hour menu and it was delicious! It was sweet, tart, and had the perfect amount of alcohol. We ordered the chicken tenders and Brussels sprouts to eat and ended up needing to order another round because they were both that good. The Brussels sprouts were crispy and the balsamic glaze was so tasty! The garlic aioli with the tenders was amazing and we didn't even think twice about asking for double aioli instead of the side of ketchup that comes with them. Also the warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream on top is a MUST! So delicious! None of this experience would have been the same if it wasn't for everyone working there who made it an awesome experience. We got great food and drink recommendations, friendly banter, and they even told us some fun things to do and see in the space so we wouldn't miss anything. (Highly recommend answering the phone if it rings!) All in all this was a great bar and I can't wait to come back!

This was fun and the drinks were really good! The bar itself is small, so there was a long line to order drinks if you weren't sitting at the bar itself. But the bartender seemed to be moving things along. I had to wait quite a long time for my food order and ask someone to check on it for me, but I think that's a normal hiccup to be expected on opening weekend. The crowd was really nice and actually a lot of people into the apocalyptic/fall out / last of Us theme, some even arriving in costume. It's fun to just sort of sit there and look around and people watch. I sat at the bar and met some nice self-proclaimed geeks. I do wish that the bar wasn't so narrow, because I didn't have very much room for my drink and my food. If you're going to eat, better to get a table. My drinks were really good, although the mai tai didn't really taste like tiki Bar Mai Tai to me. But I was very encouraged, and would like to try many more drinks on the menu. They also seem to have a really good whiskey selection behind the bar. Looking forward to returning

This is a very themed gastropub designed to feel like a post-apocalyptic safe haven and they fully commit to the concept from the moment you walk in. Between the decor, the staff interactions, and even the menu descriptions, it genuinely feels immersive without coming across as overly cheesy. They clearly put a lot of thought into building the atmosphere and backstory of "The Last Canteen." The restaurant's whole concept revolves around being a refuge in the wasteland where travelers can gather for food, drinks, and good company. I will say they execute that vibe really well. They even encourage guests to dress up in costume, which adds to the experience, although it's definitely not required. I only ended up trying two drinks: *Piña Colada-rum, pineapple, cream, and coconut served frozen in a tall cocktail glass *Sarsaparilla-old west-style brewed soda served in a boot glass Both drinks were fun and fit the theme perfectly. The presentation was definitely part of the appeal here, especially the boot glass for the sarsaparilla. I wanted to try some of the food, but it was a little more than I wanted to spend. I would probably come back again, especially if someone else was paying, because the atmosphere alone makes it worth experiencing at least once. One thing to note before going: they do not have their own parking lot and they are right on the corner of Vineland and Ventura, so parking can take a little planning. Your options are: *Metered street parking on Ventura *Non-metered street parking on Vineland *Parking across the street at the shopping center *Residential parking if you can find a spot Overall, this place is less about a quick casual meal and more about the full themed experience. If you enjoy immersive bars, themed restaurants, cosplay, or unique cocktail spots, you will probably have a good time here.

Mai Tai (which husband loved) and a fun bourbon cocktail that was very refreshing!

My husband and I went last night before the show at the Bowl and were pleasantly surprised. First and foremost the staff was very welcoming and friendly. The drink menu had good diversity and good pricing, and they were very tasty. We shared a salad and that was very fresh and yummy. The style of the bar was also so much fun with the post-apocalyptic vibes. We are very much looking forward to coming back and bringing friends that we know will appreciate!

The space was like stepping into a set from the end of the world - post apocalypse. There was a phone that would ring and there would be these messages. To make your life easier, just wait in line for drinks at the bar. My favorite drink: good old fashion. The food smelled pretty good but didn't end up ordering anything because well had already eaten. I will be back for that old fashion. Last call was closer to 11pm but I saw a lot of folks hanging out.

The ambiance was lively, many people were dressed in an apocalyptic theme. The best part was the interactive features like the Phone Booth and radio. The phone will work if you try to dial, there is an automated response. The drinks were so deliciously curated. I will definitely come back to try some different cocktails. The staff was amazing, the location is a bit smaller so expect long lines but definitely worth it. Can wait to visit soon

Heaven for any fan of the post apocalyptic wasteland vibes! I'm a HUGE Borderlands and Fallout fan, so when I heard about this place opening so close to home- I was excited from the start and it PROVED itself a worthy addition to Noho's new fun themed restaurants. From the moment I stepped in, I was delighted with amazingly thought out decor and bartenders who greeted me with a smile. I was having a horrible day- and was desperately I need of a good drink and good atmosphere. I went with the "surprise me" option, and after great debate with the bartenders, I was made this lovely fizzy drink with gin, sweet cherry, and egg white foam. It was DELICIOUS. The owner saw my Borderlands merchandise and came out to say hello! We instantly got along well, and every staff that came to greet me had the same beautiful attitude. The food was DELICIOUS. I don't quite remember the name of my sandwich, but oh man. A toasted Parmesan crust always gets me. Not to mention, while I was devouring, the music choices perfectly reflected the Wasteland Vibes with tunes I genuinely have had saved to a Borderlands playlist for years. I was BEYOND happy. The owner is a baker at heart, so while the food is amazing, the baked goods are where things really shined. I took a cookie home with me, reheated it the next morning and it was the best cookie I've had (I don't like sweet chocolate at ALL.) 10000/10. Will be coming back here in cosplay. This siren is happy to have a piece of Pandora so close to home.

Came to the soft opening / preview night. Great food. Great cocktails. Great staff. Great atmosphere. Had the stuffed portobella mushroom, fried brussels sprouts, a blackthumb, and a smokescreen. All fantastic; no notes. Can't wait to go back again soon to try ALL THE THINGS!

After coming by too early on some weekdays after the grand opening weekend, I got to wander in on a Saturday just before opening. Whoever was in lead saw me and acknowledged they'd be ready shortly. The crew made a good first impression. Sat at the bar among 2 other early guests. One of these early reviewers stuck in my head but I didn't want to let that sway me too quick. Ordered a Last Meal and a shot of the Infinite Whiskey. Chili was tasty, maybe some bbq sauce mixed in to make it sweet. Not usual spiciness over smoked meat. Grilled cheese had some kick to it with the marinated veggies. Could use a little more of both cheese and veggies but came toasted nice and melty. Would rather have an alcoholic root beer instead of Sarsparilla , didn't bother to ask if they sell it. Figure they won't bother since they have full bar anyway. The Decor for the theme is pretty good enough. It wasn't just slapped together and thrown in randomly. You can only recreate so much of apocalyptic world in a bar while making it up to code. The place feels comfortable and divey and still fits gastropub and the theme whether you come as a fan of Fallout or just a good place for a drink and a bite. The only drag of this location is very limited street parking. Better off though as this side of Ventura Blvd can get trafficky on the regular. Just take the safer options of rideshare etc over. Hope to see how the menu evolves in seasons to come.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fiiiiiine. But seriously, if the apocalypse hits the valley, this is where I'd be happy to spend my days. The theme is on point and the vibes definitely pass the test. The inside is small and intimate, with more space out back, but make sure you take a look at all the decor along the way! I had a hard time deciding on cocktails because the selection is pretty big and they all sound delicious. I made my way through three on my first visit and I would recommend every one of them. Also be sure to test the infinity barrel whiskey- you never know what it's going to taste like next! And if you really can't decide, let the expert bartenders craft a cocktail for you! Be sure to grab a bite while you're here too. I had the chili (how could I not?!) and grilled cheese (now officially my favorite way to eat a grilled cheese ever) that comes with chips. You get a great bang for your buck and it's all scrumptious. Don't forget to try one of Turtle's famous cookies before you leave! By the way, they've got the added bonus of being right on Ventura where, yes, street parking only, BUT you're right next to the big intersection which means parking in every direction. I'll be spending much more time here and I hope you join me!

Fast forward, I live down the road now. Didn't remember the name or place. But my partner and I wanted to attend the "Krampus Cove"event. Which we had done at another location two years ago. We were stoked that it was at a new spot, and so close! We went on a Sunday afternoon. So it wasn't packed. Had a booth to ourselves. The decor inside was amazing. And the show was hysterical and fun. The actors are so great. Now as far as the bar goes - we plan to go back during normal operating hours and times (hopefully soon). And I can comment more. But I will say I'm excited to go back because the cocktails are super delicious, AND they have daily happy hour (5-8pm if I'm not mistaken). Huge plus. The only negatives are the parking. Very little parking lot so that could be tough on a busy day. And the service was mid. There was one friendly bartender, and another one that just may have been having a rough day. But I didn't feel really welcomed or attended to. Rest of the staff was great!

It's a restaurant with an overall speakeasy vibe BUT is not dark and foreboding. Rather, its high ceilings, well spaced out tables, and appropriately lit dining/bar space has a welcoming, cool vibe! And the music to fill the space before the live music was well, my kinda music - vibey 80s/90s hip hop. On top of that, the STAFF - the folks we met on a Monday (senior citizen hour) night were incredibly kind and attentive. We did stay through the first set of musicians that performed and it was great. Loud, but not loud enough that me and my friend couldn't still talk. Now onto the food. A nice surprise, considering this is a music joint! That bread was solid. The side portions decent - mushrooms and broccoli were fine. The steak was a generous size, cooked appropriately medium rare, and came with a unique side of bone marrow salsa. That was a nice, interesting touch. Was it the BEST food I've ever had? Not exactly, BUT it was the best food as part of a music joint, in the Valley. So the 5 star rating is really for the OVERALL experience.

**TL;DR: Great food, but terrible seating layout and "VIP" policy ruins the experience**…read more We booked a reservation well in advance and explicitly selected the main dining room, looking forward to the live music experience Verse is known for. Instead, we were placed to the right of the stage in a row of three 2-person tables (which they still consider the "main dining room"). For a venue centered around a performance, this layout makes zero sense: You only see the backs and profiles of the band, and the tables are positioned so that one person literally has their back to the stage the entire night. It felt like a second-class experience that completely missed the mark on value. Seeing three empty tables with proper views, we asked the hostess if we could move. We were told no because they were "completely booked and reserved for VIPs." Some time later, a manager came by to say that one of the VIPs hadn't showed up so a table was now available (the VIP by the way was an off-duty worker there). We didn't end up moving; the whole interaction left us with really mixed, sour feelings. It's incredibly frustrating to know regular paying customers who book ahead are treated as second-tier while prime tables sit empty for no-show "VIPs." Valet is $15 by the way. Due to the subpar experience and being stuck in a corner, I just couldn't in good conscience order the way I typically do, which usually includes multiple appetizers, several pasta and main dishes, dessert, and a great bottle of wine or champagne. Instead, we heavily scaled back our meal. As for what we did try, the kitchen has real highlights but a few misses. We started with the Peruvian scallops (5 to an order), served cold, ceviche-style, which had good flavor. For mains, the lobster tagliatelle was excellent. However, the mushroom linguini fell short; the pasta was far too tough and needed a couple more minutes of cooking, and it was oversaturated with a mornay sauce that completely overpowered the dish. To drink, the rosé was crisp and fresh. Overall, while some of the food is excellent, the poor floor layout and frustrating seating policies made this an extremely disappointing experience that wasn't worth the premium price.
