Hate to see my childhood boba spot so dead :( I could see why though because there are so many better competing boba spot out here while this one looks like it's stuck in 2017. The interior of this place had slightly change over the years, but haven't been much updated, it doesn't look too welcoming with the bright walls and chairs that imprints line into your butts. They also got (very rigged) claw machines as the stuff animal had stayed the same since the first time I've been here. P.S owners, are you planning to sell the domo kun? Because I would be happy to take it off your hands . As for the food and drinks. They're not terrible as the reviews says, just not as stand out to other local spot we have now, but this was my go-to spot because again the food and drinks are good. Drinks: 4/5 Some of the drinks are a little diluted, but most of the drinks still taste good, however they are more on the artificial side. If that's not what you're into, then maybe this place is not for you. I also don't really like the boba here as it's on the harder side. Recommend: jasmine milk tea, earl grey milk tea (taste like maraschino cherry juice), honey green tea, and mango green tea ( I usually get everything half sweetened and it taste nice Food: 3.6/5 ( 7 years ago I would say 4/5 but the quality and quantity have decreased a lot They used to have fried mushrooms and those were my usual order, but sadly they don't have them anymore. I recently tried the popcorn chicken again and it is not good as it used to be. They also give you very big cuts instead of popcorn like cuts. The seasoning lacks a bit, but the spice is real strong. I do not recommend their fries as it's big cut and taste too grainy. Service: 50/50 sometime 5/5 sometime 2/5 (depends on your cashier) but you can't expect too much as this is just a to go spot, however I did have a poor experience with one of the cashier and their bad attitude. First time here because apparently Coldsun in Brea is closed and I need to find a new go-to popcorn chicken joint. Formosa feels very out of place for the mall it is in. I can see they were going for cute, but the decor wasn't quite there. But that's okay, because I'm here for the snacks and tea. We came in during rush hour. The place was empty and we ordered at the counter right away. Food took a little while to come out but when it did, we were hit with the delicious aroma immediately. It was obvious that everything was made to order -- super fresh, piping hot, and generously seasoned. Decent portion for the chicken and tofu too. My Taiwanese partner said the flavor of the food was reminiscent of night markets in Taiwan. Passionfruit tea and aloe was good too, really refreshing. I got 50% sugar, and even that was slightly on the sweet side for me. Based on other (much older) reviews, it seems like maybe I got lucky with the food this time. Ive been coming here for a very long time and very disappointed with my visit today. I ordered a passion fruit drink and popcorn chicken. Food and service is usually good but today threw me off. Drink was good but the popcorn chicken was under cooked. Chicken was red and way to mushy. So I called to let them know and see how they would be able to take care of this and was laughed at by the worker who answered the phone. He asked me to return to the shop so he can look at it and I don't live close to them so I was not going to be able to return. He kept on laughing and saying that he's never heard of a complaint like mine and proceeded to laugh some more as if I was telling a lie i then proceeded to offer pictures of the under cooked chicken and as he received them he's proceeded to laugh even more. I've never felt so disappointed, disgusted, and disrespected from a situation that could've been resolved with a no worries come back at your convenience for a refund or a different menu item. Never coming back to this place ‍. This place isn't the best boba spots to check out in Orange County. The place is run down , walls really dirty , the restroom was really gross looking with their toilet seats scratched up and carved out doesn't look clean at all and they seem like they just don't care of the appearance of their establishment. The place was really quiet so no music the only thing you can hear is their claw machine making sounds. The location of this place is not the safest. To the point that you have to constantly keep looking behind you whenever someone passes by their door. It made my party and I just leave cause it felt like some homeless couple was trying to rob the place. Their boba tea was not the best . After looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: Almond Milk Tea, $3.75 + large size $1.50, prior to tax- I ordered this drink to be made with 50% sweetener and no ice. I wished I had ordered this to be made with 25% sweetener because this drink was way too sweet. I ended up adding black tea at home to this drink to lower the sweetness level (it lasted two days for me). Tiger Milk Tea, $3.75 +  large size $1.50, prior to tax- Same as my drink, my husband also thought his drink was very sweet with 50% sweetness (and he also ordered his drink to be made with no ice). He was surprised by the color of this drink because it looked like Thai tea and also kind of tasted like it too, although our receipt shows we ordered the tiger milk tea. ----------------------------- (Total= $11.31 after tax, prior to Yelp 10% discount) Wait time was about 6 minutes for our order after paying. If you need to use the restroom, you need to request for the key from the counter. I thought the restroom was clean but had tagging/ scratches in the toilet seat. I personally really liked my Earl Grey Milk tea! It was very floral and definitely very accommodating to my taste buds; however my cousin got the Jasmine Milk Tea and it tasted too much like powder. If you go here I would recommend getting their special milk teas, I feel like those definitely taste better! We also got the popcorn chicken which taste like your typical popcorn chicken, they definitely have a lot of breading on it so if you like the crunchiness this is the place for you! They also have different size cups and the big plus about this place is the price range is pretty nice for the size. The large is definitely LARGE! At first glance, Formosa is a nice and big study hub with free wifi and lots of Taiwanese snacks. The service was friendly, the interior was brightly lit, and there are lots of vintage claw machine games. However, their food just wasn't to my liking at all. I had the large green milk tea was just tasted like powdered milk. They do give large portions for a good price, but I just couldn't drink it when comparing it to other boba stores. I mostly came because they have popcorn chicken, but I was a bit disappointed when it lacked flavor. The texture was really good and crunchy, but I tasted like I was just eating flour! Tonight was my first time coming here. Spotted osmanthus oolong tea on the menu and had to try it (it's my go-to drink at other tea places). I was 100% satisfied with my drink! I didn't adjust the sweetness level, so for me, it was fine as is. You can still taste the tea flavor which wasn't overpowered by the sweetness. My friend got it as well but with cheese foam and was also satisfied with his drink. I'd give it 5 stars, but I just think it's too pricey ($5.25). The crispy tofu was also good but suffered through delivery being in a bag. If you have an air fryer to pop this in - it would reheat perfectly. Teas were decent. My co worker liked his royal milk tea. I had the grapefruit green tea with aloe and it was good. They also do take care to pay attention to instructions in terms of sweetness. I don't typically like my teas too sweet - and they took care to follow instructions and make the teas they way you like. Ordered for pick up, got there and the guy gave me my order. I noticed the drink was a vibrant orange...like Thai tea. I got to my car and my gf and I saw the drink and we're like, that's definitely thai tea. AND no boba. The last time I was here was right after they opened - years ago. Tonight I was craving popcorn chicken and Yelp brought me to this spot. I'm in freaking love. I called ahead to order because these are those times. They guy asked how long it would be before I got there, so the chicken would be fresh. I arrived a few minutes early and saw signs on the door that said one party only at a time and to call their number to order. After a couple folks left I rolled in and saw he had tables creating a perfect physical distance, with the credit card pad on atable by the far wall, so I didn't have to get too close to him. The chicken wasn't ready yet and he offered to bring it to my car when it was done. Even better, some guy tried to walk in while I was paying and was asked to wait outside til I was done! I'm in love. Oh, and the chicken is amazing. Mild is on the spicier side of mild, but it's perfectly cooked and so damn generous in portion size. It's tender yet crispy and perfectly seasoned. *sigh. I was excited to visit based on the name of this place. My partner and I came and got 2 drinks. He got a house green tea with boba and I got a sea salt earl grey with jelly. Their prices are on the cheaper side with ability to customize ice/sweetness/add toppings. They have regular, large, and supersize sizes. Service was ok at first. I was waiting for my drinks and heard the worker tell the other she made a mistake and forgot to add the jelly. The other said that it was okay and there was an easy fix without having to remake it. My drink came pre-mixed without the sea salt on top...which is how I don't like to drink it. There also seemed to be a lot more sea salt. The house tea was super sweet and the boba tasted like it wasn't in a warmer. It was hard in parts inside the balls. It looked like they had some board games and toys for people to hang out and have fun. Drinks: I got a basic jasmine milk tea, and it was okay.
