Okayama Kobo Bakery & Cafe is our top bakery in OC! The salt & butter roll is our favorite, especially the original and cookie versions. Everything we've tried so far tastes great. The cafe has cute decor and graphics, and the staff are helpful with recommending pastries. Street parking is available.

Did not live up to the hype, I expected more but it just taste like water down coffee. Their banana matcha tastes artificial as well. And there wasn't anything special to the bread, it's cutely shaped tho. I did enjoy the Japanini, that was really yum and crispy!! Staffs seems nice and the store is cute with a good ordering/waiting system. I came near closing time so it wasn't super busy.

I was here just last week and i really liked Okayama Kobo Bakery. So i came back to try other items on the menu. Today i had the french toast, the chocolate Emoji and a Yokohama Peach tea. Their dough is always fresh and warm out of the oven. The filling is slightly sweet and with the perfect consistency. It is light and just melts in your mouth. The Yokohama peach is a peach flavored green tea. Refreshing and with just the right amount of sweet. Great spot for a quick breakfast bite on the go. Prices are great and so is the service. Everyone is so friendly. I Live the energy, ambiance and background music. I highly recommend Okayama Kobo bakery.

Such a cute bakery! I am a fan! The line seems long and intimidating but moves quick. The banana matcha is excellent but I did not really like the matcha coffee. ! I enjoyed the salt bread, fish sando, some bun with hot dog, and omg the curry bun was amazing! It totally takes me back to my trips in Japan - since I can't visit Japan often I will try visit Okayama. I will definitely be back!

First time here, and I'm already a fan! There was already a line when got there (on a weekday), but that's to be expected. Thankfully, the line moved pretty quickly, although the bakery itself is small and can feel a bit tight inside. I got a small assortment of pastries, including the Japanini and some of their popular items: the Salt & Butter Roll, Curry Pan, and Kobo Kuma. Everything was warm, fresh, and delicious. I honestly wish I had gotten more. My kids enjoyed everything too. The only item that was a bit disappointing was the Sea Salt Taro Latte. It was a little too milky and sweet for my taste. I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more items from their delicious menu!

Long line worth the wait! This bakery truly took me back to Japan. The flavors, textures are all there. Every item is authentic Japanese. Exactly like Japan they have sweet and savory items. The spicy curry is amazing, the emoji pan, the toast! All of it is delicious. I tried the Taro latte and it was amazing. The staff is epically busy yet they still make time to smile and answer questions. It's a small inside with a few standing tables and counter. Luckily they have outdoor seating. Will definitely be back!

    - [ ] I live so close to this bakery. Every time I passed by, the line was a mile long. Yeah, a bit exaggerated. I said, why not give it a try to see if the hype is real? It didn't disappoint me to stay in line for almost half an hour. I almost left the line but thankfully, a bit of my patience kicked in. Finally, it was my turn to order the freshly baked assortment of breads. Yes--the goodness of the bread was the reason for the mile-long line! I also ordered a sea salt taro latte, and a banana creme matcha that is surprisingly refreshing! The staff members are pleasant, fast, and efficient at taking your orders. The interior is well lit, clean and organized. I have only one regret: I wish I had discovered this place sooner. Yelpers, be prepared for a long line and a lot of patience, and you will thank yourself when it's your time to order.

What a cute Japanese bakery shop in downtown Anaheim. They have mouthwatering sweet and savory pastries. All the pastries are made fresh with no preservatives. They also serve coffee, signature drinks, and teas. I heard the line is always long. It took me about 15 min wait but it moved fast. Ordered 2 Salt and Butter Rolls - A light, fluffy bread with a buttery flavor and a hint of salt Chocolate Emoji - Soft sweet bun filled with dark chocolate and vanilla bean custard cream Kobo Kuma - soft bear shaped bread filled with vanilla bean custard Spicy Curry Pan - Ground Chicken - Baked, panko-crusted bread filled with original Japanese style vegetable curry with chili flakes. Sea Salt Taro Latte - Mmm! It is perfectly sweetened and you can taste the Ube. All the pastries purchased were absolutely delicious and will definitely be back. There is parking structure close to the shop. They can validate your parking tickets for 2 hours. You can also park on the side street. I am definitely returning to purchase multiple boxes next time.

Love this bakery and their mentaiko breads. Their salt and butter breads/rolls are always a hit. Service is good but the lines are long, understandably. Wish they would've heated up my breads though. Either way, so good!

Oyaki Mentai Caviar + Mentai Salt & Butter Roll

My friend and I came here on a Wednesday around 1pm. This turned out to be a good time. At 12pm, there was a long line outside, and at 1:30pm, there was a long line outside, but at 1pm, we were able to walk inside. The emoji breads tempted us with their cuteness, but we were very curious about the Oyaki Mentai Caviar's combination of spicy cod roe and mochi. To be safe, we also got the Mentai Salt & Butter Roll. While we liked the Roll and its crunchy outside/soft inside, we actually loved the Oyaki. The mochi isn't sweet at all, just nicely chewy. Plus, whereas the Roll only had a little bit of spicy cod roe inside, the Oyaki was packed! I say this a lot, but truly, everything looked good. I hope to come back and try their Paninis and Danishes. If they're anything like the Oyaki, they'll be distinct, delicious, and downright delightful.

MUST TRY. The cutest Japanese bakery!! So aesthetic & it's SO GOOD. There's not an item that I don't like. I've been here a couple of times and I keep wanting to come back again and again. The salt & butter rolls are amazing. I recently tried the banana chocolate danish and it was soo good my mouth is watering as I type this. You have to get a chocolate emoji or a Kobo Kuma bread, they're too cute. Workers are so nice and helpful, the place was so clean and welcoming.

there was no line, so I decided to give this place another shot. Unfortunately, I still wasn't impressed. I reordered the banana matcha, and it honestly just tasted like banana milk with barely any matcha flavour. I also tried the salty bread, and it was pretty underwhelming. I thought maybe my first visit was just a fluke, but after coming back and having the same experience, I can confidently say I won't be returning.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon with my daughter for the cinnamoroll collab. There was a line that we waited around 20 mins in. The smell of delicious bread was coming out of the cafe. I ordered their most popular pastries as well as a tarro latte which by the way does not contain caffeine perfect for my daughter and a banana matcha for myself which is by far the BEST matcha I have ever had! The pastries were so light and fluffy. Very delicious. The line was definitely worth waiting in. I can't wait to come back!

I got so many pastries. There were no misses. My favorite of the bunch was the blueberry cake. The cake wasn't too sweet, was moist, fluffy, and tasty. I enjoyed the matcha cheesecake, garlic sea salt bread, and raspberry cruffin as well. I also grabbed an egg bacon bread and regular sea salt bread to-go for future breakfasts. Warmed up, these were great in the morning! To drink I had the Banana Pudding Matcha Latte which was not too sweet and yummy! Good matcha flavor and the banana pudding was creamy. Mixed together, it was good. I also enjoyed the crunchy bits in there as well as the real banana slices. I got it at the small size, but the portion was generous. It went well with the pastries. There's some inside seating and tables as well as a bathroom available. There is lots of free parking around the bakery. I went in the afternoon on a Sunday and it was still packed! The variety is definitely one of the strongest points here. We tried the Matcha Cruffin, Onion Cream Bread, and Three Cheese Bagel. The Onion Cream Bread was the best of the three. The cream was light and balanced well with the bread, but the onion flavor was pretty much lost. I could barely taste it. The Matcha Cruffin was disappointing. There was matcha powder on top, but absolutely no matcha filling inside. I'm not sure if they changed the recipe or simply missed the filling in ours, but for something sold as a matcha cruffin, I expected an actual matcha presence beyond the topping. The Three Cheese Bagel, made with cheddar, cream cheese, and mozzarella, had good flavor but the texture was much too hard. We were dining in and had it warmed up, yet the bread was still tough and the cheese inside had already hardened. Service was fine, but nothing stood out. Overall, great selection and a nice space, but the pastries we tried were inconsistent.
