The only time you saw a server was them bringing food to your table. There is a water station next to the entrance. Pay with credit card if you order on the QR code (Apple Pay accepted). If you pay with cash, you get 4% discount and you have to waive down a server. Brisket was good. Baby back ribs were fall off the bone. We had a party of two, which we noted in the order, and we ordered a small size, which comes with three bones. They gave us four ribs! The sides here are so flavorful. The potato salad was great. The mac n cheese was so cheesy and creamy with white cheddar from Wisconsin. The dill pickle was sour. The B&B pickles were sweet. I would love to try the beef brisket chili next time. The sauces here are definitely lacking. Only the spicy BBQ sauce was good and actually had a spice kick. The eastern carolina and white alabama are not even worth tasting imo. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, and the wait is not long except during the lunch hour. There is plenty of parking, even at lunchtime. The tables and floors are clean. Mango-habanero wings were crispy and came with two dipping sauces, both delicious. We also tired the pretzel, which is on a smaller size, so next time I'll take our server's suggestion and order two. It also came with mustard and cheese for dipping. All their burgers are more or less a la carte: no fries, but chips and house pickle on the side. The burgers were fine though, with smash being smaller, but a bit tastier than their signature Monk's burger. Simplicity is sometimes the best. The beer list is expertly curated with focus on other styles besides IPA, but I assume that Russian River's Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig are always on the menu, in addition to ultra-local options. For pub fare, Monk's Kettle is a bit pricy, which is not totally unexpected in today's economy-especially knowing the area. I have to call out that, with the cheese board, came a little loaf of bread. That bread was really good all on its own. I would definitely want to eat it. I can still taste it. It was really good, but my wife, she's gluten intolerant. They offered, because she couldn't eat the bread, they offered to also bring her out some gluten-free crackers, so she got to enjoy the cheese board just the same without the bread. They gave her the crackers, and do you know, they just gave her those extra. They didn't ask for something more. They didn't do anything. They just took care of her. I really appreciate that. A friend who'd talked up The Speakeasy for years is besotted by the Marsala Sautéed Chicken Livers ($11) on the bar menu. Not ever a fan of liver, I avoided sampling his until we'd collectively polished off an order of Baked Goat Cheese ($10) and a trio of Pulled Pork Tacos ($13). He'd grown full and much liver remained which is when I learned that I do like chicken liver. Or rather, I like chicken liver as prepared at The Speakeasy. All of the above pretty much had me fan-girling out over this place but then this happened: We were done, requested our check, and were told that someone that evening had picked up the tab for the entire bar, something I've not experienced in my lifetime. I already liked The Speakeasy a whole lot before learning my food and drink were free of charge. Like changed to rabid fandom when this occurred. I know that I can't expect a full repeat of this experience but even if it's just chicken livers and Cabernet, that'll be enough.
