I missed my favorite dish, Thai Crispy Fried Chicken. I ordered it with all green salad. The container holds pieces of crispy boneless chicken atop lots of lettuce with shredded carrots and a sweet chili sauce. I drizzle the sauce over the greens and dip pieces of chicken into the container. Fort Street Café has lots of dishes, from curries (which are great), noodle dishes, meat plates, bentos, and banh mi. Haven't been here for awhile, and I hope this visit was an anomaly. I placed an order for pickup, and was at the restaurant about seven minutes later. The food was ready almost immediately after I arrived, which is not a good sign. The spring rolls were terrible. An order came with plenty of fixings, they were all fresh. But the spring rolls themselves were bad, and it wasn't due to the short ride home. The were barely warm, soggy, gummy, and a bit over-fried. Not a good taste combination. I've eaten plenty of cold and even soggy spring rolls, and they all tasted better than this. I had a lemongrass banh mi. It was on the spicy side, which I didn't expect, and didn't care for. But before that, I could feel through the wrapping paper that the bread was not fresh. It was one day away from being too old to and hard for someone to eat. Such a disappointment. Usually get the Thai Crispy...decided to try the Lemongrass Banh Mi. Love it. Not super lemongrassy and veggies aren't super pickly...just the way I like it. Bread is crispy but not cut the gums kine sharp. Jalapenos on the side, but I slip some of those bad boys in...usually regret it later but so good when I eat it. I ask for extra Chinese Parsley. It's been a pretty long time since I've been here and have always had great food every time I was, but this last time I was here when Joe K was visiting was pretty disappointing. I got the Combo plate which had pork chop, Kalbi, and Bbq chicken and Joe K got the Garlic chicken / Penang curry combo. The thought was we could share everything so he could get a taste of multiple items since this was his first time here. Unfortunately we both agreed the food was mediocre at best. Of all the food I'd say the curry was the most flavorful with a nice curry/coconut milk taste, went perfectly spooned over the rice. The worst by far was the pork chop, super thin piece that was beyond dry and tough. We actually didn't finish most of the chop and for those that know me, something has to be really bad if a human vacuum like me throws it away! For the other stuff (Kalbi, 2 types of chicken) they weren't the greatest either but nowhere near as bad as the pork chop. The Kalbi was probably the better of all the proteins. I really think the biggest factor was because we went towards the end of lunch hour and no doubt they had most of their popular items precooked for the lunch rush so it had been sitting for awhile. I ordered Catering for the first time for an office lunch party for pickup on a Friday. I needed to feed a total of 15 people - mostly males. I inquired 3 days before the luncheon by text. Family members been going here lately. They brought me a Lemongrass Chicken plate. I enjoyed the flavors. There was a mild spice kick. I could also taste a slight curry seasoning. The meal came with a generous portion of salad which included lettuce, two cherry tomatoes and small, thin pieces of carrots. The salad wasn't seasoned at all. I added some of the sauce that they provide. The rice portion was quite a lot layered beneath the chicken. The chicken came in nice size pieces. Texture was on the drier rather than moist side. I wouldn't rave about this lemongrass chicken plate. For the price and portion, however, I was content. The taste satisfied my craving for lemongrass chicken. I got the garlic chkn and panang curry combo. Good garlic chkn, just wish either the meat was thicker or the batter was thinner cuz the ratio is kind of off. Flavor and crunch is good though but kind of disappointed that it was only 1 chkn thigh cut up. The panang curry is also good but not really spicy like everyone says. Super mild if even that. Came with sticky rice which was a cool surprise since i thought it was gunna be just white rice. Each entree is good on its own but dont really go together. Garlic chkn would probably pair well with fried rice since you kind of need something more savory to balance the sweetness of the chkn. This is worth the price since you get a good amount of food. I also got the garlic chkn and pad thai combo. Those dont go well together at all. Sweetness overload. The pad thai comes with a lemon wedge which helps but it needed a couple more wedges. Otherwise, the noodles they use for it is more like the type used for pho. Its pretty plain like just noodles stir fried in the tamarind sauce topped with some bean sprout and peanuts which is fine with me since I pick out the stuff from pad thai usually anyway. I think this one is a little pricey for what you get. Found this little gem since my college days. I used to eat here nearly every other day!!! Not as often now and over the past few years since graduating, but will often order through DoorDash or go down to pick up my order. Food isn't aaaas perfect as before but still good! The garlic chicken is hands down my favorite and the flavor of that never changed. Ever. The pho lately hasn't been consistent. Sometimes it's flavorful with all the spices, other times it lacks the flavor. Their pho used to be my favorite but the inconsistency of flavor makes me sad. So I just stick with my other choices. I used to come here quite often when I was working in town. My favorite is the Pad Thai Noodles with Garlic Chicken. Since we were in town, decided to order our lunch from here to have my husband try it. I ordered 2 of my favorite...didn't want to share...lol! I'm so glad I finally got to check this place out. Everyone talks about how amazing the garlic chicken is, and it did not disappoint! The food is SO good and definitely worth the trek over. The lines are long during lunch, which can be discouraging but they are so efficient. Someone comes around to take orders from the line. So by the time you get to the cashier, I just let them know what I ordered, paid and only waited a couple minutes for the food. Other downtown lunch places should take note--it really speeds up the process. The owner is super nice and has an impressive memory. The person who took our order was very polite and even brought our food over to the table while we were waiting.
