I love this flower shop! I was born and raised in this neighborhood, once I got my own place I would stop by every two weeks to buy an arrangement that would last me - believe it or not, two weeks! Betty would give me instructions on how to care for the flowers to extend their life. The flowers sold at this shop are always very fresh and robust. Betty would personally assist me in putting something different together and would always give my daughter a rose or a flower. We moved out of the neighborhood years ago, but whenever I need an arrangement for someone or am in the neighborhood I stop by and pick up some flowers for my favorite flower lover in the world: ME The prices in this flower shop are unbelievable. With $10 I recently walked out with a gorgeous sunflower arrangement in a glass vase (see the photos I uploaded), which brightened up my living room for days. I love FWF! read more

I was referred to Fort Washington Florist by an aide at NY Presbyterian Hospital. A friend was admitted there for surgery and I wanted to send flowers. I was told to ask for the owner Betty. I called this morning and spoke to Betty who couldn't be nicer and more professional. Betty spoke to me about different options and different prices for each arrangement option. The prices were more than reasonable, and there was no delivery surcharge. Within hours, the flowers were delivered to my friend's room and they are positively gorgeous. My friend's boyfriend sent me a picture, and I got to speak to my friend, post surgery. She said the flowers put a giant smile on her face. I definitely felt I got my money's worth. I wholeheartedly and unequivocally recommend Fort Washington Florist. Thank you Betty. After I got surgery on my foot, my boyfriend wanted to surprise me, so he called this flower shop to see if they delivered and to see what would be best for me. When he called, they told him that they could "hook the roses up," and put them in a nice vase. He agreed to it, and paid for it. When I received my dozen of pink roses, they were not in a vase, and the delivery guy said that the roses were for Paola, which clearly is not my name, or the name the card. I had a feeling my boyfriend was up to something so I asked the man to see if I could see how the name was spelled, and it ended up being my name. The delivery guy was clueless and did not apologize. After I saw my name, I told him it was my name. I was on webcam with my boyfriend, so I thanked him, and I let him know I was going to put them in a vase... ME? PUT THEM IN A VASE? HOLD ON... Didn't my boyfriend pay for them to put them in a vase and "hook" them up? Ohhhh okay, I thought so! So my boyfriend didn't tell me anything about it, until he came over the next day, and we spoke about it! I decided to call the flower shop and the woman got crazy with me... She was not trying to accept the fact that she is human, and could make a mistake; she was seriously yelling at me, and saying that she did business with my boyfriend, not with me. She finally accepted she made a mistake, and said she would give us two free vases to make up for the mistake.... Actually, you are giving us one free vase, because my boyfriend paid for one! I guess the dozen pink roses were $60 because they were supposed to come in a beautiful vase... Totally forgot to review this florist. Betty is great! I was born & raised a block away & ever since I could remember, this flower shop has been in that same location. I consider them family. I no longer live in NY and for the past 3 yrs since I moved to Miami I've been sending/ordering my mother flowers online. Last year my order was messed up for my mothers birthday & mothers day & my cutie got the flowers a day late, I was very upset! Didn't want that happening again & so I looked up the best flower shop back home. Fort Washington Florist! Called in (Betty answered) took great care of me as she always takes care of all her customers. Very sweet, attentive, patient. I explained what I wanted & she knew right away. Growing up this is where we always went when we wanted beautiful arrangements & even for those sad times when a loved one had passed. She added personal touches & made sure it was done right away. This year my mother got her flowers in less than 10 minutes & hearing her surprised & happy when I called her a couple minutes later, was exactly what I'd hoped for. Very pleased and I will be back again soon. If I had to point out the only downside, I'd say parking was a nightmare (on a Sunday afternoon). NEVER AGAIN!!!!!! I went here yesterday 3/14/13 and placed an order for several flowers including natural white Spider Mums, natural orange Carnations and natural light blue Hydrangeas for a event I have on Saturday. I was told to pay in CASH because she was giving me discount because I was sweet. A discount that I didn't ask for buy "hey who doesn't want a few bucks off right?"! I went to Citibank next door because I dodn't have $189 in cash on me. When I returned, I asked her if I could have the flowers delivered she said "yes" and we arranged the flowers to arrive at 2pm on the same day. Thirty minutes after I had left, she said that she was short 5 Hydrangeas and that she could have them delivered tomorrow instead. I told her that I didn't mind having them delivered all together tomorrow at the same time, 2pm that way, her deliver guys wouldn't have to make multiple trips and of course to help reduce our carbon foot print :) The flowers arrived at 10am this morning and upon my review of the flowers, I noticed a strong smell when I opened the box and noticed that the natural light blue Hydrangeas petals and leaves had been spray painted in a strange "light blue." The delivery man saw the tears emerging and told me that he could take it back if I didn't want them, but to call the woman and let her know. I quickly called Betty ( who honestly was very friendly in store) and she recognized my voice right away. She asked me if I was happy with the flowers. I told her for the most part everything was great EXCEPT the Hydrangeas. She said that Hydrangeas don't come in light blue that they only come in white and that she's been in business for over 60 years and that all they do is $20,000.00 weddings and thats just what they do. Mind you, this whole time I'm not yelling at her or anything. Aside from my crackly voice ( because I was crying like a fool..lols) she said that I was over-reacting and that I needed to calm down. She then told me to hold on and I heard her tell one of the workers to please come on the phone and tell me to calm down because the Hydrangeas don't come in light blue. None of her works came on the phone and then she said well there is nothing that I can do thats just how they come and she hung up. As an Event coordinator/Party Planner I understand that flowers are sometimes spray painted BUT letting the client know that they are going to be spray painted should be COMMUNICATED especially if I was very clear multiple times that I didn't want them to be spray painted. Unfortunately, I will NOT be returning to this flower shop. I was however saved by Riverdale Florist on West 231st. :) read more

I chose this florist for two reasons: it's in my brother's neighborhood and it had 5 stars! I thought I was doing a good thing by going directly to a florist and not using a larger company, like ProFlowers. Well, I was wrong. The flowers, though beautiful, were delivered a full week early for a family event. In NYC, with the heat in the old buildings...there's no way the flowers would have survived. I called the florist, who apologized, said it was their mistake and that the flowers would be redelivered. Terrific, I thought, at least my family can enjoy flowers for two weeks! However, the florist did not tell me that they would be back to my brother's house that night to take the early flowers away. They took them back. I mean...really? I think that's kind of tacky considering it was their fault. I do realize it's the Valentine's Day crazy season, and possibly (hopefully) I'm the only person who had a bad experience. I can kind of understand delivering on the wrong date, but then taking the flowers back? No. read more

Meh. I went in looking for houseplants and was really upset to see that the orchids most definitely had a fungal infection. When I asked the staff about it they shrugged and said they "come that way". I asked a few follow-up questions and the owner (I think) kept yelling at the employee what to tell me, even though she could have just told me herself. I won't be going back. read more
