Our brunch at Forthright was delightful! Everything we tried for the table was delicious: 1. Chicken and waffles - Perfectly cooked chicken and yummy waffles--a great combo. 2. Cinnamon roll - The cinnamon roll was 100% eaten, gone by the end of the meal. So good, I think that says it all! 3. Sausage side - Savory, flavorful, so tasty. 4. Mimosas - The server asked if we wanted a "single" or "double" mimosa and explained that it was either a half-full or full glass--I thought he was referring to a champagne glass, but he was actually referencing a regular wine glass, so our double mimosas were very much enjoyed, ha. My only complaint about Forthright is that they don't take reservations (unless you have a larger party, I think). My friends and I got brunch here on a Saturday morning, the food came out super quick however, the coffee took a lot longer, and it was kind of diluted and watered down. The açai bowl was phenomenal and really fresh, just what we needed after a night out. The one dish I was really looking forward to it was a chicken in Waffles, while the chicken was really good, the waffles felt dry and cold- didn't feel fresh at all. Casual brunch spot off of Brazos in downtown. Walk in only so you walk to the front host and check in, wait wasn't bad went by very quick. Opted to sit on the outdoor patio and was very pleased with the service and food. Ordered the waffle trio and to our surprise they came out on popsicle sticks which I thought was cool, turned out fluffy and delicious. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and was refreshing. The eggs benedict was really good, the hollandaise sauce and the pastrami definitely elevated the dish. Overall I think I'll definitely come back as Forthright is reasonably priced, accessible compared to some of these other brunch spots that want you to make reservations weeks in advance, and has pretty good food. We got seated quickly which we did not expect because there was a good amount of people outside. However, our party was of two. We ended up getting a bottle of mimosas instead of the single or double drink, which we enjoyed it came with four flavors. So we go to try a variety and the price would just be better, a single is 9$ the double 16$ the bottle is 35$. The food was good and the service was quick! Last day my bf and I stayed in Austin, we grabbed breakfast here. We ordered the American plate and the chicken and waffles. The chicken was so delicious! This place is such a cozy, cute spot for brunch. They have both indoor dining and outdoor patio sitting (tho I highly recommend you ask for indoor considering the Texas heat). Walked in here for a cup of coffee. Ordered a hot latte. The gentleman said if I wasn't ordering food I couldn't sit outside. There were tons of empty tables. He finally relented and said he would bring me the coffee when it arrives. After waiting almost 15 minutes I walked inside and the coffee was just sitting there in a to go cup, even I had said I would drink it there. Needless to say, the coffee was cold and I asked him to heat it up and he said he could throw it in the microwave. Honestly, I am not sure why this place has such great reviews, as it was pretty disappointing. The basked of biscuits were soo dry and had a burnt bitter taste. The homemade preserves/ jam that it comes with was pretty good, but even that couldn't save the biscuit taste and dryness. The Americana was decent, but lacked seasoning. The michelada was not good. I should have guessed it wouldn't be what I wanted when I saw it come out with celery and olives. Definitely not a traditional michelada, I was not a fan of the taste and only had a few sips. It's a touch hard to find, its in a convention center but there's no signage outside from the street. Made reservations here at the recommendation of a friend. I showed up about 5 minutes early but my friend was running late. They wouldn't seat me until she arrived. Kind of annoying since about 20 people got sat between my arrival and hers, I don't know why restaurants do that. I understand there must be a reason but I can't think of one and it's really inconvenient. The restaurant is in a convention center so you just have to sit in the hall, it's weird. They do offer drink service out there though so that's nice. The drinks were great and innovative. The potato latke was delicious, same as the bread and jam, as well as the eggs. The bacon was literally tasteless. Not sure how that's possible but it tasted like cardboard. I would give this place another shot and order something different! Really cute place but rather busy! One odd thing was that I couldn't make reservations online for more than 2 guests and they don't take same day reservations supposedly. The wait was about 30-40 minutes on a Sunday morning and they served us drinks while waiting which was nice! I would advise getting single glasses of mimosas rather than the bottle since you get WAY more champagne that way for less. The flavors to mix were: Orange juice, cranberry, pomegranate, and grapefruit. I had the brunch burger which was amazing...I got it without the bacon but the mixture of the fried egg and hash brown in between some nice burger buns...yum! This is truly a hidden gem. We found it on yelp and actually had to call to find where it was at. Located in the San Jacinte office building. Ordered the dirty bird with an added egg on top, avocado toast with eggs on top, side of bacon, toast, and the Christopher Robin coffee. What stood out for me here is the service. There was about a 15 min wait to get seated, but while we were waiting a server found us to check if we would like some mimosas....yes please! So drink in hand is always a good way to wait for a seat, even if it's brunch. This is not your typical breakfast joint like IHOP . I went with the "full breakfast" which consisted of eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, and potatoes. The sausage was really fresh and I believe freshly made. The bacon was not my fave as it wasn't crispy. But everything else was good. So my only gripe was that we waited about 30 minutes for our food to get to our table. Everyone else that was seated after us already got their food. Our server advised that it was my friend's vegan burger that was causing the delay. So to appease us, our server gave us the friends and family discount and comped 20% of our bill.
