As I entered I sat at the open seat at the bar , I then was told by the hostess that i needed to check in with her ! I said ok , well is it ok if I sit here she then "says ya its ok! " oy ! I was looking for gluten free options since they show gluten free zucchini bread but I ended up ordering Al Pastor hash , it comes with two easy eggs but it is on top of some type of soupy stew! certainly not Al Pastor! the shredded meat was tasty but I dont need 10 raw cloves of garlic in a veggie soup. Visiting from Chicago and stubbled along this cute brunch spot. Right away the drinks caught our eye; for the fall they had some cool drinks. I got the color theory which changed colors once you poured in the side drink, and my bf got a spiked pumpkin cold brew. We also got an apple cider daiquiri which felt right for the season. We had a fantastic brunch here. It's at the bottom of an office building so at first we thought we were in the wrong place but I'm glad we looked around and found it. We started out with some lattes that were both delicious. I got the matcha latte which also had some spirulina in it and it was a great way for me to start my morning. Last day of our Austin trip, we decided to grab lunch here as I've seen so many glowing reviews on Yelp. Highly disappointed as everything was mediocre or below. We were seated promptly without a reservation around 1pm Sunday. We viewed the menu by scanning the QR code which was great. After ordering, we waited more than half an hour for the food to come out. Food was mediocre at best. The bf wasn't really hungry so he was ordered the biscuit and gravy with fried chicken. The bottom of those biscuits were super hard and he struggled to cut them! Gravy and fried chicken was ok. My burger was actually pretty decent! The patty was nicely cooked and still moist inside. The flavors of everything else complemented each other perfectly. But with more than half an hour wait? Was it worth it? Not really. Service was below average. We probably talked to our server 3 times total? Maybe 4? So basically she took our order, did not check on us ONCE during our wait for food (I contemplated on ordering a latte but after 20min of being ignored, I decided not to), asked if we needed anything after the food came out, then we paid. Hmm, and if you've ever been here, you'd know that there's a 22% option for tips, then 18%, then none. This restaurant has the audacity to put a minimum 18% of tips? Seriously? Stayed downtown at the JW Marriott for a work party, woke up the next morning and walked over a few blocks to Forthright. It's small inside (they have a patio but it was too chilly outside) but very cute decor. Staff was attentive and food came out quickly. I had the avocado toast which was delicious and my husband had the breakfast sandwich and it was giant- his side of potatoes were delicious!! Latte was tasty as well. The food here is amazing--well worth the hassle of finding it for the first time as gps settings were off and the cafe is inside the block on the side of an office building. We parked a block away, but you can park in their lot for two hours. They only have outdoor dining available during Covid. It was windy and cool outside. They let us use their restrooms. Madi was a great server. She brought our drinks out first, then breakfast entrees. Two of us ordered avocado toast (one on sourdough bread and one with their delicious harvest bread/one with poached eggs and the other with scrambled). The side salad is just mixed greens with vinaigrette; nothing else. My other daughter had their waffle stack with a ridiculous amount of fresh blueberries. Excellent, tucked away restaurant we found while in Austin! Well worth the stop. We were seated within ten minutes in a smallish dining area (under a large fan they keep going as a Covid precaution so bring a jacket), and had our drinks immediately. Such a cute brunch place. I've been in the area tons of times, and I had no idea Forthright was located inside this building. My friend and I had class here, and our server was so kind and polite to help make us comfortable. They have solid WiFi, so that's a plus to coming and working here. Casual brunch spot off of Brazos in downtown. Walk in only so you walk to the front host and check in, wait wasn't bad went by very quick. Opted to sit on the outdoor patio and was very pleased with the service and food. Ordered the waffle trio and to our surprise they came out on popsicle sticks which I thought was cool, turned out fluffy and delicious. The orange juice was freshly squeezed and was refreshing. The eggs benedict was really good, the hollandaise sauce and the pastrami definitely elevated the dish. Overall I think I'll definitely come back as Forthright is reasonably priced, accessible compared to some of these other brunch spots that want you to make reservations weeks in advance, and has pretty good food. I must say, though, that the person who poached the eggs was an artist -- they were beautiful and perfectly done! My latte was disappointing. First, it was covered with cinnamon. Lattes don't ordinarily come with cinnamon, and this was not stated on the menu. Second, I don't think I got the extra shot. Obviously, I couldn't do a chemical analysis, but from both the taste and the effect, I'm pretty sure. The meal cost me $24 before tip. On a Saturday at 10:30 a.m., the place was unpleasantly jam-packed. The receptionist was friendly and joked about how the only seat at the counter was next to the kitchen. Wow we stumbled upon Forthright and it was a killer find! It's located on the side/behind the four seasons and the ambiance is unmatched for some coffee and breakfast. We came in December so the outdoor area has Christmas lights and Christmas music going and it is a total vibe! It's shaded and peaceful and the staff is so friendly and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our nice Saturday morning breakfast. The coffee was excellent and we highly recommend the Forthright latte. All the food looks amazing and seems to be made with quality ingredients. The menu has plenty of options for anyone but not too many to overwhelm you.
