Disappointing experience. A Saturday lunch requires some patience but not this much. It took an hour to get food, placing an order at 1:00... the menu isn't so diverse that a kitchen can't cook faster. Food was good but the kids meals were pretty bad. A hamburger with no condiments, cheese, anything. Asked for a slice of cheese and somehow that took five minutes. I know this isn't Panera or Wendy's and good food takes time, but our wait was unacceptable. read more

We went here Friday night. We were told it was great and hard to get in. We were seated right away. My husband ordered the king salmon dish. I ordered the filet. Here they came to the table. I cut into my steak. It was well done. I ordered medium rare. They took it back to redo. There my husband was enjoying his meal and singing his praises to how good it was. An hour later mine came in a to go box. We are on vacation how am I going to eat this in a hotel room? Need I say more ? read more

This is by far one of the best restaurants in Northeast Georgia! My boyfriend and I ate here on a Saturday night while visiting Lake Burton. The food was very fresh. I had the shrimp & chicken grits and he had the salmon. It was absolutely delicious! The service was one of the best I've experienced. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked in the door and the manager even came to our table to make sure we enjoyed our meal. Not only was the food and service great, but it had a cool atmosphere. Had lunch here today... Great!! We started with the gouda fritters. Oh my goodness these were yummy. I will go back again just for these. We also had the caesar kale salad, crab bisque, grit bowl and chicken salad sandwich. We had no complaints about anything..,, everything was great. We completed our meal with creme brûlée, it was ok. Haley was an amazing waitress and very friendly and helpful with our choices throughout the meal. The fortified salad was very well put together and tasted amazing. Our main course was also perfectly seasoned and the vegetables still had the perfect crunch. Last but most certainly not least the house made ice cream, I could have eaten a gallon even on top of our other two courses. Everything was outstanding. This is a hidden gem! Had a wedding in Splendor Mountain this weekend, so my boyfriend and I had a bit of time to walk around town today and this was the best dining experience we could have hoped for! The restaurant is beautiful and modern inside with a bar worthy of any craft cocktail to be served from! We were seated quickly by the friendly and courteous host. Our waiter was more than happy to recommend us certain dishes. We ordered the pork, cheese, cabbage soup (amazing stew!) and the fried green tomatoes (to die for, the accompanying sauce was out of this world-with the side of pork and spinach) for appetizers. Since it was an early noon lunch we chose to have Georgia sweet tea to drink, but there is a great wine, beer and cocktail menu-we might go back tonight for a drink-it's that good! And now for the main course-I ordered the special of the day, eggplant parmesan (better than my mom's but shhh she doesn't need to know!) and my boyfriend ordered the Reuben sandwich- both AMAZING! Overall it was one of the best restaurants we've ever eaten at, we wish we could bring it home! I was excited to try Fortify with my family however it turned out to be a nightmare. I ordered the trout. Given the dim light atmosphere I did not notice until I had eaten some of the fish that the skin looked raw. The server said it was fine. I did not finish the meal and later that evening, I got violently ill with food poisoning. I called the restaurant the next morning and they would not even credit my card for my dinner. A great spot in a quaint country town, this restaurant has it all. Every dish on the menu was tempting and the two that we chose were completely out of this world. The combination of flavors and textures was exceptional. It is clear that the chef is a genius in both technique and creativity. Combine that with a well appointed dining room and an attentive and knowledgeable staff and you have a sure fire winner. The food was incredible, the ambiance was divine, & the staff was so accommodating. I ordered the trout (perfect), and my husband had the filet. The Sonoma chardonnay was recommended by the waitress to pair with the trout - great pairing! It was my husband's & my first wedding anniversary, & the generous manager absorbed the cost of our dessert - an apple cinnamon creme brûlée. Delicious! The venue at first crashes with all prejudice one might have against the rural parts of the South. Nearly Spartan interior. This is the only "simple" part about the restaurant. Firstly it by far lives up to southern hospitality. And the food, it could match up with fine dining in any town. First I had the green fried tomatoes. Sort of sparkled with shrimps and green leafs, on a bed of grit. And for a main course I had the pork loin chop. A big piece of moist and tender meat. Grilled to perfection. And for me served with a local produced red wine, Cabernet Franc from stonewall creek. A beautiful reminder of how much north Georgia has to offer. read more

We stopped to dine here a couple of weeks ago on the way home from Highlands because of the good reviews. I ordered fish that the waitress described as "lobster like." It was not good. G had shrimp and grits that was just ok. For a bill of $60, we expect much higher quality. We were also still hungry when we left. We were lucky! We just strolled in hoping to get a table without reservations and we only waited for a table to be made. The manager was the host as well as the bartender. Our server/waiter was Austin and he told us about the chefs specials. They have a delicious drink special: Cinnamon Sour? Like fall in a glass :) my husband got the Nor'Easter which he loved but I didn't.. We started out with the two appetizer specials: fried oysters and the tomato sausage soup! Both were wonderful but my husband won't stop talking about the soup.. It is served with a pesto crostini topped with goat cheese: that cheese was my favorite part. For entrees we had the special: striped bass and the grit bowl. I chose the warm kale and sundried tomatoes and my husband had the squash and eggplant casserole for sides. The bass was delicate and moist with lions mane mushrooms which were very meaty? The grits were cheesy and the red gravy was amazing!!! We didn't save room for dessert but we didn't need it! The service here was exceptional and the food off the charts. Be prepared to spend around 100 per couple but it's definitely worth it. The gem hiding in Clayton, we will be back!! read more

Fabulous restaurant!! I am sad that it has been open for over a year and I just now went for the first time. The food is amazing! I had the fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, the filet for my entree and the chocolate creme brûlée for dessert. The filet was seasoned and cooked to perfection and was so tender I could cut it with a fork. Clayton is lucky to have such a great restaurant! I will definitely be back. read more

This is a great dinner spot in Clayton, GA. I've been 3 times and always had a good experience. The table is always ready when the reservation is made. The staff is friendly and helpful. This past weekend we started off with the Gouda Fritters (a must try), for my entree I had the Sea Bass special. I was blown away by the quality of the fish and presentation. Make sure you save room for desert, you won't want to miss the chocolate tart. On a side note we had the wife of the chef/owner as our waitress who was very nice and welcoming.
