No problem, the place was nearing capacity per usual and we did get a window seated table. But, then I noticed, no collard greens on the menu. So, if you read my earlier reviews, you will note that I have eaten at quite a few "meat and three" style country diners and that I also know how to cook this food at home. That's a big qualifier, because Clayton Cafe had become a part of our destination trip to Clayton from Greenville, SC. It was just that good, a notch above the crowd. I didn't find this experience to be the same. The decor, service, ambiance was the same. Even the same crowd starting a 15 minute table wait shortly after noon. Business has not suffered, but the food is not the same. Overall, everything was less flavorful, more bland. The highlight, the white sawmill gravy was piping hot and flowed well, not a gloopy mess and I like that it was served on the side. The country fried steak was tender, but it had less crunch on the crust and was significantly bland - pepper and salt please. The green beans had a small chunk of meat involved, but they too were very bland and lacked a depth of flavor expected from the hamhock, the biscuit was good, but not the buttery crusty biscuit if yore. The okra was straight up flour breading with no cornmeal in the mixture and that's a game changer on this dish. Fried chicken was good. Squash, or squash casserole was a bland mess and left uneaten. Don't get me wrong. This three star rating means "OK". It's still a good meat and three. It's just not an exceptional meat and three as experiences my multiple prior visits. So that's when I asked the server if the restaurant had changed owners and yes, in April 2026. Well, there ya go, but Bon Chance to the new owners and Godspeed towards the hard work and keeping it going. Obviously, a full house lunch crowd on a Tuesday in June shows positive momentum. It seems to be a local favorite because it was pretty busy when we arrived. We got the last spot in the parking lot. The lot is not paved (dirt and mulch); however, if you have a Tesla they have two charging units in the lot. Staff are very friendly and inviting and they do a good job of cleaning and maintaining the coffee station and customer seating areas. Prices are competitive to other businesses in the area, although the coffee is a bit expensive in my opinion, but it is delicious. I ordered an Americano and it was one probably the best one we had on our whole trip. Nancy and I both ordered coffee's, the Americano was $5.75 and her Coffee of the Day was $4.00. For our breakfast we decided on the Bacon Quiche $7.50 and the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit $6.95 to share. The Quiche was on point; it was much better than the Biscuit Sandwich. Don't get me wrong both items tasted yummy it's just the biscuit was quite dry. Nancy had to ask for Jelly to spruce it up. They didn't charge extra for the jelly and after adding the jelly the sandwich was actually the bomb; something for the menu development team to ponder. There is not a lot of seating here but it seems most customers are in and out quick except for a few that are working on laptops and whatnot. All-in-all, a great spot for a quick breakfast or brunch and fresh ground and deliciously brewed coffee. I recommend them if you are in the area.

Yonger is a rare shop, in my humble opinion, for east coast since healthy choices both in markets and eateries are like trying to find a needle in a haystack so my heart happy knowing this exists here not far from where we stayed at just minutes from our children's maternal great-grandparents home. So many wonderful options and staff was friendly from the time we walked in to the moment of checkout.
