My husband and I have been going to Cupboard Cafe for many years. It used to be a treat but the food and service have gone downhill drastically! I ordered a side of okra and rice and gravy. The bowl of okra was half full and appeared to be the bottom of the skillet. The gravy was minimal and the rice was dry. The cheddar biscuits, which used to be great, now taste leftover and dry. Our waitress is always in a hurry and we have to flag her down for multiple omissions from our order. It's a shame things have deteriorated at was once our favorite restaurant. read more

We drive here from Gainesville based on the great reviews. We sat in the patio which was perfect, weather was perfect and the views are great. Our waitress provided great service. The food is where we were very disappointed. We got the turkey and gravy with dressing and a side salad bar. The best part was the salad bar. Turkey was very dry, dressing was sub par and the gravy was awful! We probably will not be back. Too many better choices in the area. read more

Went back again a few times and hadn't improved much. Always out of main dish items I would try to order almost every time. My husband and I always had a laugh about it because it happened a lot. But this visit put the nail in the coffin. We ordered our food and my husband got a one trip salad bar with his meal. Took over fifteen minutes for the waitress to bring his plate. In the meantime his tea glass was sitting empty. Once again the waitress tells me 30 minutes later they were out of the meatloaf I ordered so I opted for baked ham. Sat there at least another 15 to 30 minutes and no sign of food. Then saw two separate couples who came in after us get there food. At that point my husband and I just got up and left. The place is packed. It's right off of the hwy and we went for lunch as hungry hikers post our hike at rabun bald. The cuisine and decor is southern all the way and has an extensive 5 plus page menu with all things southern and some sandwiches and burgers. They have kids menu too. We ordered the glazed salmon, turkey and dressing and beef livers. Everything took a bit longer and tasted acceptable. Nothing out of thr ordinary but did not blow us away. We stopped in while walking through this small shopping mall and were not disappointed. I had a cinnamon bun and the wife had a peanut butter cookie with "Fudge" icing. A little story about that from the baker. We took the items with us and later on were wishing we had purchased more. When in Clayton, Ga, don't miss this hidden treasure. read more

My family and I have been going to the Cupboard Cafe for almost 30 years and up until recently the food and service have been amazing. Apparently it is under new ownership and our last visit was most disappointing. Firstly, they stop serving breakfast on Sundays at 11am so the church crowd is out of luck if they are seeking the wonderful breakfasts of days gone by. We were there at 11:15 and since no breakfast was available, I ordered a btl sandwich to go. When I stopped to eat the sandwich, I discovered that it was not cut in half and the toasted bread, which was good, was completely dry. No butter or mayonnaise, nor was there any offer of condiments made at the time of order. After having 2 meals under it's new ownership, I'm sad to say that we will no longer dine at the Cupboard Cafe. read more

Cupboard Cafe is a great little place for a family meal. It's almost like a buffet, in that they seem to have most of the food pre-prepared and ready to go. Hubby and I are big fans of the veggie plate. The Cupboard has a good selection of items for the veggie plate, including several items that change daily, like: bean of the day, squash of the day, sweet potato of the day, greens of the day ... You get my drift. The waitstaff are efficient, if sometimes harried, and I don't think any of them have ever gotten my order wrong. That, my friend, is an accomplishment. You walk by the fresh, handmade fudge, then the pie and cake display and off to your table. You are then greeted with a southern smile and cheddar biscuit! What will you have to drink? The corned beef hash is legit-chunks of corned beef with the usual potatoes- mix it with some perfectly cooked eggs...voila (not viola) yummy-happy tummy. Excellent service. Breakfast was fantastic. We had praline French toast and quiche of the day, which was brocolli. Both were amazing. Large portions, which will have you asking for a take-out box. Decor is rustic country meets retro diner vibe. It's a bit pricey, but if the food is this good, who cares. We will be back. Extremely busy Sunday afternoon with the older church crowd. Won't make that mistake stopping by during lunch on a Sunday again. We stopped by and wasn't as impressed by the visits before. The menu has changed with new owners, that was different. Food didn't seem as nearly as good as in the past. We played it safe with a burger and my husband had a chicken sandwich. My burger was very dry. Husband's sandwich was pretty sloppy. We had fried pickle as an appetizer that didn't get brought out in time. It came with our meal. Thumbs down for that. I got the banana pudding, which by the way sells out fast. Wasn't impressed at all. The "pudding" was like thick sugar water, no wafers or bananas, and a heaping of meringue. Extremely too much sugar. Will never get that again. The portions are plentiful. They serve bottles of Pepsi products instead of fountain coke products. They forgot my onion rings with my burger and they came after I finished eating. The burger, sandwich, onion rings were good. I had to take the onion rings and half the burger with me. Husbands fries didn't taste fried, tasted baked from frozen and weren't cooked all the way. Ambience? Lol. Is none an option. Very crowded area. Overall this visit was blah.
