My sister is always taking me to new places when I visit New York and this one was tucked away in a little shopping plaza. There wasn't a wait, we got there around 7pm in the evening on a weekday. They had a highchair for my nephew and we had super service. The suggestions for appetizers for made for us and then we tried their pizza. If you ever wanted a chance to try bone marrow this would be the place to do it. I have had marrow before so I was able to compare it and this one was super flavorful and melted onto the toasted bread they gave so you could spread it on. The pizza as perfectly crisp and not burned on the bottom and of course the tartufo there was delish. I can never find tartufo out in Los Angeles so anytime there the opportunity in NY I am all about it. read more

I've been to Fortina many times, all three locations in fact, and on each visit something stands out as excellent. The food is straightforward Italian, solid and delicious. Big portions of classic dishes, with some unique specialty items sprinkled throughout the menu. I have come to expect exceptional service and the ambiance is casual and fun. This location has become a regular in my rotation, I love design of the space and is highly recommended. Servers are always great. Only downside, it can be loud in the space, but if noise is an issue, sit outside on the patio. read more

Was in Armonk on short notice for two nights. It wasn't a vacation but by the second night, I was looking for a somewhat "nice" dinner, in downtown Armonk. I made my choice by looking at online menus of local restaurants. My experience at Fortina was very positive. I ordered grilled polpo for my appetizer. Overall, pretty good (not cooked to much which can make it tough.) The "sauce"/garnish was unconventional, but good. Overall, the app was solid but not great. My main course was a homemade lemon pasta dish, and a side of Broccoli Rabe. The pasta was chewy and beautifully dressed, with a very lovely, full lemon flavor. The pasta was dusted also with sesame seeds. This is not conventional Italian, but it really worked, giving a second layer of flavor that made the dish special. I rarely order pasta in restaurants, but made an exception here, and I'm glad I did. I would definitely order this again. The Broccoli Rabe was very good and what you would expect. Had an ok glass of wine with dinner. No dessert. The staff was pretty attentive and overall satisfying. The restaurant is huge - and VERY noisy. If I was going out to eat to catch up with an old friend, I'm not sure I'd go there. The prominent, loud music is somewhat intrusive, but the restaurant was packed on a Tuesday night, so apparently most people don't mind. And the wine by the glass list was pretty disappointing. Think they should re-examine. Not a lot of enticing choices. As I've seen noted by other diners, I agree that menu pricing was a little aggressive. I would return however. read more

I have been to Fortina many times. I have tried many of the items from the menu and have enjoyed all. This review goes beyond the food, which many know to be amazing. Tonight, I came to Fortina with a party of 15, including 4 children. I spoke with Jen the week prior to make the arrangements and she was amazing. From start to finish the process was pleasant and I was given options and information. Our party decided to order "a la carte" despite being such a large group. Upon checking in, we were greeted politely and were given the option to sit at our table despite our entire party not being there. Our table was set up nicely and comfortably. Our server Edgar was attentive and came to our table multiple times between ordering. We were a complicated group and the entire staff was so accommodating. It reminded us of why we continue to come to Fortina, whether it is for a small, casual dinner, or a large party. Delayed review.... My husband and I loved this locale way back when. We went in following Armonk Frosty parade in Oct and it was just a crappy experience. Hostess wasn't friendly at all. When I put my name in I politely asked how long approx and she gave me some political answer about having to seat reservations first and no idea. I went outside to wait with my hubby and 3 yr old in the cold. He's crying he's hungry so I went back in and apologized for asking how long again. "Oh I see we're second on the list!" I smiled and said. She responded "we're seating reservations first." Oh..."can we sit at the bar with a toddler?" And she replied "no you can't." Stay clear of the $14 a SLICE (Gluten Free) Sicilian!..... I am so upset with this that it will be hard for me to return. I placed a take out order over the phone. I asked about Sicilian pie they told me they sell slices of gluten free Sicilian. Granted I understand gluten free is a little more expensive and although we really didn't want gluten free I said ok I'll try it because we wanted Sicilian pizza. So I ordered 4 slices and a Luigi Bianco. Well it was quite a surprise when I went to pick it up and they told me I owed $86 DOLLARS!!! Really!?!?! The four lousy (they were not good at all) cost me $56 dollars!?!?!? I completely feel ripped off!! A) They should have told me that the slices were that expensive B) Any other pizzeria adds 3-5 dollars to the cost of a whole pie for gluten free! I called today to double check before writing this review to be fair and not make a false review. But I am very upset, I happen to enjoy Fortina. They have become a little expensive and I do not mind paying for good food but at some point greed has taken over and they are using there little bit of fame to overcharge and price themselves out of the restaurant game. I've been to all the Fortina's, only for birthday get togethers or whenever someone picks the place. Most recently I went to the Armonk location. Definitely not one of my picks. What bothers me more than anything before even getting into the food, are the prices. This place is hitting you with champagne and caviar prices on a beer and hot dog menu. The pizza is in between decent and good. The salads are good, the entrees are decent at best with very small portions. Not worth it. If the place was just pizza I would have given it 3 stars, but in totality I think 2 stars is fair. read more

Pros: Awesome atmosphere/vibe, one of the best sound systems I've heard at a restaurant, very well-designed interior, great service. Cons: Food is a little pricey for what it is and definitely overhyped. I'd come back to Fortina, but not for the food. I had the meatballs, mozzarella sticks, and one of the pizzas with the black truffles and I didn't find any of it to be spectacular. The meatballs were kind of dry and tasteless, the mozzarella sticks tasted like they had fake cheese in them and the pizza had cheese that was way too liquidy. The vibe though is awesome, this is without a doubt one of the nicest looking restaurants I've ever been too and it nails the cool casual thing. I'm not sure what's going on at Fortina. I had an awful meal a month ago at Fortina Armonk, but I let it slide because of how amazing their reputation has been through the years. I tried Fortina Stamford and that was just as horrible. From dirty cups to freezing cold food, the staffs lack of attention was the cherry on top! My sister and I saw the chicken parm on the Instagram account & when we got it in real life I almost barfed. We were sick for the entire rest of the day because it was undercooked, cold, and the amount of salt was concerning. I'm truly sad that I won't be going back to Fortina anymore because I used to be a loyal customer-takeout included. The food has changed so much as well as the lazy staff. The food was good, not great. Pizza was burnt, not well done, burnt. We did sit for a while after we paid the check. I rarely go over the bill with a fine tooth comb; however, one of our guests did review the line items. We were stunned to discover that they charged us $2.00 each to put ice in our cocktails. I have had gin on the rocks in hundreds of restaurants and have never been charged for ice. I did question the server and was told that is their new policy. Pros: cool ambiance and very sweet, friendly waitress; interesting food selection (too bad everything that I tried was bathed in salt - luckily, blood pressure isn't an issue!) Cons: food is extremely salty - every thing that was ordered was salty: bone marrow and arancini, even the Caesar salad (actually had 6 glasses of water during the meal). My friend I had the pleasure of dining at Fortina last Friday evening and It was a great experience from the moment we walked through the door. The host, Jack, was extremely accommodating when we asked to be seated away from the door. He even took our drink orders while we waited and brought our wines to us. Once seated, we ordered our apps and entrees. I had the lemon pasta which I highly recommend. The Bibb salad and burrata were also very good. Went here because I was in the area and it was highly recommended. It did not disappoint one bit. The staff was very welcoming and warm. The place was decorated very well with a great vibe. Appetizer was a Crispino bread with fresh ricotta with honey on top. It was beyond great. The rigatoni in a bolognese sauce was very tasty and very different from Italian restaurants where you know it's not something generic. I tried a little pizza and it was light, tasty and crispy...in other words pretty much perfect. For dessert I got a muffin that was dressed with things to make it taste like the best pancake you have ever had. This place has a great vibe, warm people and authentic Italian food that you can tell is made fresh (especially the ricotta). I will make the trip from LI again just to come here. read more

Dinner last night was fabulous. The highlights of the meal were the Tenderoni pizza,the meatballs,the vegetable platter and the smoked mozzarella sticks. I'm not a big mozzarella stick fan in general,however these are the best I ever had. These are a must. The drinks were excellent and the service was outstanding. If you are looking for a disorganized restaurant with botoxed middle aged ladies dressed like 20 year olds (and their significant other / former high school football players turned middle aged meatheads) with overpriced bland pasta and pizza look no further. Bonus points if you love the movie Great Gatsby playing without sound on enormous screens. I suppose my fate at Fontina was similar to Jay Gatsby in the end. I've been here twice (I guess I'm a glutton for punishment) and both times we were seated about an hour after our reservation time, and with nowhere to sit during this inexcusable wait, I was constantly shoved aside by the incredibly rude and inexperienced waitstaff trying to get by with food and dirty dishes. The restaurant graciously offered soggy potatoes about 45 minutes into my wait. In all seriousness, I will not be back. The food in no way is worth the rude service and disorganized management. There are too many decent restaurants in the area to justify this place (let alone why there is such a crowd). Perhaps I'm not trendy enough for it. read more

The 4 of us sitting in the aisle constantly had waitstaff bumping and shoving our chairs. 4 out of 10 ordered wine as we arrived, didn't get them for almost a half hour. I used to really love this place. Or well I should really say this location because I still frequent the rye location. The waitstaff had become so snotty and rude it's sad. Three strikes your out. We have always had such a positive time coming here since they opened but the last 3 times were the limits for us to never return. 1x we came at 10 and the place was jamming so we ordered a bottle at a table and we're hoping to share a pizza the waitress took our order and then we didn't see her or the wine for 21 mins she finally came to tell us kitchen was closed. But can can order dessert we said fine but can we please get our wine. We got the bread pudding which didn't taste like bread pudding at all more like a corn muffin with ice cream. Our second encounter here was when I called to make a reservation for 8 and the hostess gave us confirmation. When we arrived the same hostess who took our reservation told us they were closed for a private party,then why did she take our reservation. No apology was given. And our last trip here was 2 weeks ago. I was working in Bedford and thought I'd call in some pizza to take home on a Friday nite with the wife. It took 15 minutes of phone tag to get someone to take my order. When I arrived I was told to go to the bar to get my order picked up. Are you kidding me the bartenders took 10 mins to even notice me meanwhile I saw 3 serves walk back and forth and a lady by a counter that looked like pick up but not sure what is was not doing anything why wouldn't someone help me. We were excited because these restaurants have generally good reviews. The pizza was OK - it was small but the taste was fresh and good, charred crust. However, was on the cold side when served. The appetizers were a waste of money. We had to chop the house salad ourselves because the "chef" gave us romaine cuts fit for a slop bucket. The to-go container wasn't even half way closed and fell all out when tried to get out of the bag. "Garlic bread" was awful. Save $10 and get Alexia. Their "famous" fried meatballs had good flavor but were rubbery in texture. Finally, if you care at all to go to a restaurant and NOT feel like a caged chicken when walking in, STAY AWAY. Eating in or carrying out of this place on a Friday or Saturday is for the birds. Overcrowded, poorly laid out interior seating and clientele who forget they live in a civil society make for a horrible experience and ambiance. It's really frustrating when you go to a restaurant where the food is excellent, but the service is slow, as is the case at Fortina. We went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We had two appetizers (the Arancini and the pickled vegetables) and two pizzas (the Luigi Blanco and the original famous rays). Everything tasted fantastic! Really delicious! The Luigi Blanco pizza was especially good. Sometimes a chef will add too much truffle to a dish and it overpowers everything. Not the case here- the truffles were a perfect compliment to the cheese on the pizza. The people serving us were nice enough, but they were either not attentive enough or they were under staffed. Every part of the meal was slow- slow coming over to greet us, slow to order, food was slow coming out, took forever to get the check. Nobody came over to refill waters. We ordered a beverage that never came out. We can be understanding to a point, but after a while you just feel annoyed and neglected. It wasn't particularly crowded, they had 2 big parties, and about 1/2 of the tables were occupied. Looking at the other reviews, the service seems to be a consistent issue. Went back to the hostess three separate times to ask how much longer and were told "not much longer", "you're next" and "our computer is frozen". After one hour and 20 minutes on a weekday- the manager came over to the bar to apologize and offer us appetizers and a round of drinks. I was expecting something a lot better than what I experienced. It was suggested that I try Fortina because I was looking for some good Italian food. We made reservations and were seated within 5-7 minutes of arrival, which was nice. I liked the overall decor of the restaurant and the bar area as well. I like the tomato cans they used as pizza stands and thought it was awesome that they used iPads for ordering - that must cut down on mistakes A LOT! We were seated in the room furthest from the bar, right along the windows. I was very excited, until I saw the big screen TV on the wall. That killed the atmosphere for me and what's worse is that every time I looked at the TV, I was awkwardly staring at the couple that was seated at the table right below the screen! The menu had a nice selection of items and we ordered almost one of everything. The food was nothing to rave about, however. The broccoli rabe came out cold, the pastasciutto wasn't warm either and had an awful texture and flavor (my boyfriend agreed). We ordered a prosciutto pizza that wasn't horrible, but wasn't anything that would save the rating. The service was sub-par as well. The food was poorly timed - we spent 2 hours at dinner! There were no apologies, just excuses. We asked for refills of water and had to wait 12 minutes to get served, even though our server walked past our table several times. There were always servers standing around, but nobody helped us when we needed it. We told the server we were upset with our pasta dish and she laughed it off, asked if we wanted it wrapped, and then cleared the table. No apology. No question as to why we didn't like it. Nothing. The ONLY reason I gave a 2 star rating was for the dessert. It was amazing! I ordered the chocolate tortoni and my boyfriend had the tirimasu. Both were presented in small glasses, which was a nice way to present the dessert, and both had amazing flavor. I've been to Fortina twice now. My first visit was good but unremarkable - my boyfriend and I both ordered a pizza, which we enjoyed. We came back for a special occasion with our parents a few months later. Music was playing so loudly that we couldn't hear each other speak from across the table. Everyone enjoyed their meal (most people got the pizzas and I tried a few bites - they were very good), but the service was a mess. My food didn't come out with the rest of the table's meals. I waited about 10 minutes and then asked a waiter about it. He said he'd look into it. We had to ask three people before it actually came out. While I enjoyed my pasta, everyone was done with their meal when it arrived. No one apologized for this mistake. It also took forever to get our check - we sat for about 20 minutes after finishing our meal before anyone came over to ask how it was/if we wanted a check, etc. While the food was good, I was really disappointed in the service. Blown Away. That's the best phrase I can use to describe my experience at Fortina last night. As one of the waitresses (ask for Alex) told us, Fortina is an upscale, modern take on an old fashion Italian restaurant (the checkered table cloth kind). While I usually pause to snap a picture of a great looking meal, this one was too good not to dive right into. We tried 3 different pizzas including the classic, the penne a la vodka dish and a house salad. My husband and I arrived at about 8:45pm on a Saturday night. We were greeted by a male host/maitre d'(?) wearing a flannel shirt , a heavy beard and longish hair tied into a ponytail (this seemed to be a bit of a theme among some of the male staff members). The restaurant was electric; a ton of people were there to eat and drink but I don't recall it being to loud to have a conversation. The large bar area was packed two people deep and we were told it would be a 45 minute wait. The restaurant is gorgeous. Sort of a rustic barn meets industrial loft meets furniture from Restoration Hardware vibe. I had a fantastic Martini made with Boyd and Blair Potato Vodka. as well as a bottle of Anderson Valley Hop Ottin IPA. Again, fantastic! I was really impressed with both the vodka and the beer and plan to seek each out for home consumption. FOOD: Prosciutto and Fig Appetizer: Loved the fresh figs and they pair perfectly with the large portion of prosciutto. Pickled Vegetables: Must get if you are keen on fermented foods. Spicy Olives: Good but not spicy enough to make a real impression. Braciole: A rolled pork dish with red sauce and a side of buttered spinach. Fatty, flavorful and wow. Charred Escarole: A huge hunk of escarole served on a large plate. Tasty, salted perfectly and I gobbled the whole thing down myself. Amatriciana Pizza: Another wow. Doughy crust. Great sauce dolloped atop the dough, onions and pancetta. We finished every bit of the food and I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and not overly stuffed. As I said earlier, the vibe in this place is electric. It was an exciting night out and the food is innovative, ballsy and fun.
