AMAZING sandwiches! Also 6 alfajores - EARTH MOVING delicious treats! And roasted garlic hummus, usually we make our own, and this is the best hummus recipe I've tasted in a long long time! It was an expensive visit, $65. BUT if you are going to spend money on bakery items, a visit to Gather RB will not be disappointing. The food IS AMAZINGLY tasty. We are looking forward to going back, after we save our coins for a few months :)

I was driving from Bucks County to Newport News to visit family over the New Year's holiday and Surf was my first stop about a third of the way to my destination. I wanted to buy a half dozen for the family to enjoy for the next few days. I hadn't counted on the Christmas break causing this shop to be full on a Tuesday morning and low on bagel inventory. But, it was, so my options were limited. My first choices (onion and sesame) were gone, so it fell to secondary availability to meet the need. A few garlic, poppy and plain rounders would have to do. Still, these were quite good; well textured semi-hard skin with softer chewy bread within. Taste was forceful (particularly the garlic) and with toasting, cream cheese or butter and slice of Gruyère, enjoyable. Strong brewed coffee complemented it as hoped. Service was friendly and helpful and appropriately apologetic for lacking my desired flavors. Not their fault that they were so busy on a holiday week. Good for them. Surf is definitely a bagel stop to make on a quieter day when they wouldn't be nearly sold out before noon! 4 Fat Bagel Stars

With 8 oz of fresh sliced corned beef piled high and a delicious sauerkraut and dressing! Asking about your vacation, giving pro tips on how to make your order perfection, and just caring about you like a family member would at a home cooked meal in your kitchen. If you dare have room, the desserts are sliced fresh from a display in the deli - I couldn't help but take pictures of the Skyscraper Cakes (Chocolate and Carrot options). Back then, I waited in line for over 30 minutes because the place was so busy, so I had high expectations. Unfortunately, this visit was the complete opposite. I ordered the corned beef hash and eggs with a bagel. The corned beef was full of chewy, inedible chunks, the potatoes were extremely mushy, and even the bagel was disappointing. The entire breakfast was basically inedible. To make matters worse, the restaurant was nearly empty, which was surprising given how packed it had been on my previous visit. I truly hope this was just a one-off experience, but with so many great breakfast options in the area, I honestly don't see myself coming back.

The bagels are still a very good buy, but the bagels are not as good as they used to be. The bagels are more bready, almost a roll not a ring anymore and the amount of toppings were almost nonexistent. The everything bagels had very little toppings and the sesame seed bagels had almost no seeds. When I first started going there for bagels the bagels were covered with toppings on both sides making it hard to tell the top from the bottom. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, they open very early and sell out of some bagels so it's a good idea to get there early.

This was absolutely delicious and like nothing I at least have ever had. Even when I was in France. The macrons were so fresh and like actually crumble in the inside like cake. I got the gelato which was coffee, flavored and then put a lavender vanilla macro on top. Super quick and helpful servers. Like I said not your average ice cream shop. Pretty cute uncomfortable in the inside, but we only sat down for a minute cause I wanted to see if we could catch the trolley.
