I thought this was an Oakland 'must see'. It is not. It was disappointing to say the least. It's a large space but it's only the lobby open to the public. The lobby is outdated and cluttered. There are 3 or 4 prepacked options available. Looking at the customer pictures, I thought you could walk in and find a variety of dipped fortune cookies. That is not the case. Everything must be pre-ordered. I will say, the lady who helped me was so nice. Customer service was not lacking. This review isn't about the food. I never ordered anything.

I was hosting a lunch party and wanted to give my guests fortune cookies as party favors. There are only two fortune cookie factories that still make custom fortune cookies by hand. Luckily, Fortune Cookie Factory (FCF) located in Oakland allows online orders to be shipped. Thank you! Ordering online was very easy. I wanted 3 sets of 25 fortune cookies each with a different custom message and 50 fortune cookies with generic inspirational messages totaling 125 cookies. With shipping cost and everything, each cookie costs $1.24. If you do the math, I paid good money for the cookies. It's all worth it. I got what I wanted and that's what matters. Cookies & messages are mixed together so if you need to have them sorted, there is an extra fee. Make sure you add this service to your cart. I didn't know to add this service at the time of placing my order. Luckily, Alex, one of the staff members from FCF, emailed me and asked if I needed the cookies & messages sorted. I quickly replied yes. Thank you so much for asking Alex! I needed my order by a specific date so I made sure I specified it. I got my order 2 days early. Very cool! Unfortunately, when the order arrived at my house, I was not home at the time. Someone at my household carelessly mishandled the package and mixed all the cookies together. I was so super upset. No fault of FCF of course. Alex explained to me how my order was packaged. I appreciated his special attention and care. So bummed I didn't get to see the packaging. Nevertheless, it was a lesson learned for me. All cookies were individually wrapped. They are made fresh right before shipping and are good for 4 weeks upon arrival. Cookies were light and crispy with perfect texture and taste... not super sweet nor doughy just the way I like them. My custom messages came through nicely. Inspirational messages were wonderful, too. I enjoyed the cookies and messages very much. Thank you FCF for everything! The next time I am visiting the Bay Area, I will swing on by FCF and check them out in person. I'll be bringing home some bags of fortune cookies for sure.

My grandmother loved that we added emojis in the fortunes.

Love supporting a small local family-owned Bay Area business. I ordered 100 fortune cookies with a few different custom fortunes for my grandmother's 90th birthday party. The cookies came individually wrapped and were so cute! They were also flavorful with a perfect crisp. Ordering was easy and they delivered our order to our front door for a fee. The fee was worth it though as it was one less errand I had to run before the party. We received so many compliments from our party guests. They thought the cookies were adorable. Working with the staff at the Oakland Fortune Cookie Factory was a great experience. They have been around for 50+ years!

Love supporting a small family business and Asians in the arts! I haven't had a chance to swing by in person so sight and taste unseen, I ordered a few Lunar New Year boxes to be shipped to family in So Cal and Colorado. They were shipped on time for New Year's and I'm told they are the FANCIEST fortune cookies EVER! The packaging was great - everything arrived whole and my family raved about how beautiful they are. Definitely a special and unique treat to share! Can't wait to try them myself!

First time coming here, but a family friend would come here all the time. Tours aren't happening due to Covid, but you can order online. The lady working was super gracious with us. She still let us pick up some cookies even though we didn't order online and even brought it out for us to look at it. The bigger boxes of the year fortune cookies are dipped in chocolate and inscribed with the year with extra decoration. 5% of the proceeds goes to the AAPI community. The mini box of three cookies (no donation) was $8. The one with six cookies was $24. They also have a bag for "misfortunes" which are just the cookies that didn't make it to perfection for a discounted rate. They say you eat with your eyes first and let me just say I wasn't starving after picking these adorable cookies up. Hope they open back up for tours cause I would love to watch them make it.

I ordered several of the Chinese New Year fortune cookies for gifts this year to my extended family. (Of course, I ordered two packages for myself that I picked up curbside since I live in Oakland.) They were so pretty, so festive, and delicious. Each of my family members were excited to get the cookies. My mother, who is very tough to impress with gifts, loved them so much that she wouldn't eat them for a week! This is a mother daughter run operation out of Oakland Chinatown. I love the fact that I am able to give a food gift that reflects my American born Chinese roots so uniquely.

Definitely a sweet touch to any event you will host, from the ordering process down too actually receiving the package was easy , I needed the cookies for my familys birthday party so naturally I was extremely stressed out on if it would be shipped on time so I constantly sent emails, phone calls And each time I was assured that the order will arrive on time and it did!!!! They were beautiful and sooo delicious literally melted in in your mouth and fresh.

Walked in to see what is available at the store (kids like browsing rather than ordering online). It's more of a factory with a very, very small area reserved for a storefront. It's not noticeable from the outside and no one is available to open the door (be prepared to call). We got lucky and someone just happen to go in and we followed them in. They have cute sprinkle fortune cookies at $2 each, rainbow (fruit flavored) fortune cookie bags, and then they apparently also sell broken cookies the way bakeries sell cake edges (cheaper). We got lucky and they had extra Mother's Day box available, which I bought on the spot. Score! Would recommend the glitter fortune cookies (edible glitter is big now), but I personally thought the sprinkle ones were sweeter. The packaging was intense. I'm understanding it's because the cookies are fragile and they deliver them too (order online!) but I wish it had come with a description or list of what's in the box. Unboxing this was a literal treasure hunt where I wasn't sure what else I missed lol I'm kinda excited they have tours too. It seems like it'd be a fun birthday spot where you could start with a tour and finish at the park one block away.

The Great Fortune Gift Set (for the Lunar New Year). 8 individually wrapped cookies inside the box.

When I was looking for a gift for the Lunar New Year, I heard about this place. With COVID, their storefront is closed to the public, and ordering is only available on their website. I chose their Great Fortune Gift Set,, placing my order on Monday night and requesting a pickup on Wednesday afternoon. I called on Wednesday morning to confirm my order was ready, which they did. And when I arrived on site, I called again, and they handed me my order while I was parked on the street. The packaging was beautiful, and the cookies tasted very fresh! The set had 8 individually wrapped cookies, with 4 different fortunes. I'm glad I found this place and am looking forward to ordering from them again!

I placed two custom orders with them this year. The first was for my husband's 70th birthday/Chinese New Years. We gave them out as a party favor to our guests. They were all impressed with them. Almost too cute to open and eat! The second custom order was for our church's Pentecost celebration. We had a verse printed as the fortune and the back-side had the occasion. Fortune Cookie Factory was so kind to offer to have our church logo included on the fortune! It made the cookies extra special! Fortune Cookie Factory offers very fancy dipped cookies with sprinkles in a rainbow of colors and flavors. They've changed with the times and I hope they'll continue to succeed! Thanks Fortune Cookie Factory!

Fun way to celebrate Lunar New Year. Ordered a bunch of boxes for the family. My favorite were the ones dipped in chocolate. I don't think I'll be able to eat regular fortune cookie again.

I've always wanted to stop by here, and after reading a great article in The Oaklandside about the business and its history, I decided to order some cookies for Lunar New Year. What gorgeous, lovingly decorated cookies that are not just nice to look at, but are delicious! The cookies are light and crunchy, and have just the right amount of dipped chocolate and decorations without being super sweet or difficult to chew. I love that the business is run by a mother-daughter team, too! They offer all types of uniquely decorated, colorful, or plain cookies for every occasion, and you can even personalize the fortunes. Great for party favors/special events, or when you just want to treat yo'self to some yummy, beautiful cookies with a side of good luck!

Last weekend I realized I'm near a milestone 1300 reviews!!! Woo hoo! Not quite a Cherylynn N epic count of 2700 but she's been my "Yelp hero" since I started Yelp! For reals... Anyhoo, when reaching a milestone of reviews you want it to be special and meaningful (or not) hmm...what to do? Well, on Sunday while flipping thru stations I came across the History Channel: Modern Marvels with Adam Richman (Man vs Food)...why not? Afterall, watching re-runs of re-runs on ID Channel can be sooooo predictable. Things I've Learned: never buy insurance, a saw or large plastic bags a week before you're going to kill someone, ethylene glycol is so old school and be sure to turn off your cell phone before you drive to a deserted location! Noted! I digress...The season premiere of the (revived) Modern Marvels with an episode on famous cookies: Entenmann's chocolate cookie, Girl Scout and fortune cookies!! Cool! During the fortune cookie segment, Alicia the General Manager (4th generation) discussed the history and being one of the oldest fortune cookie factories in the United States that still fold their cookies by hand (using their original machines from the 1950s) in good ole Oakland Chinatown...definitely, a lost art that requires speed, precision and creativity...by the end of the segment a black-and-white picture flashes and I had to do a double take. OMG she looks familiar...had to pause and play back multiple times and knew right away that was my late, GRAND AUNT, Edith *tear*...Gosh, the flood of emotions and memories slowly started coming back of visits to Chinatown, visiting "aunty Edith" and picking up MIS-Fortunes....broken cookies or ones that cooled before getting folded. I can still remember the delicious smell of the batter and warm cookies getting peeled off the press The next day I sent an email to the Fortune Cookie Factory asking about the picture and the history...Alicia quickly responded, sent me a scan of the pic and asked if my grand aunt was Edith....confirmed! Back in the 70s - 80s (the time Edith worked there) it was called Gum Xing or Golden City Bakery (and partly why I didn't remember) and now its current name.... It was only thru pure serendipity that I happened across this show and definitely a part of family history. I like to think my Grand Aunt Edith is posthumously getting her 15 secs of fame (big smiles) and i dedicate this 1300th Review to her! *HUGS* *** SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS ** The Fortune Cookie Factory is definitely a treat with their variety of tropical flavors, chocolate dipped, customized fortunes and selection of custom colors (Warriors, Lunar New Year, etc) for ANY occasion .... In the last 12 years, I've made bulk orders for baby showers, weddings, fundraisers and getting customized fortunes that are always a hit....Alicia is very responsive and will accommodate your orders and deliver when promised....True old-school customer service that has run in her family for generations! Thanks Alicia for sharing history, making a great product and I look forward to visiting with my young nieces and nephew for a brief tour. For now, I will just order some goodies to share with friends and family! Note: Online ordering is easy with curbside pickup by appointment only or shipping.

Overall, it's been a good experience every time. Parking can be challenging depending on the time of day. Most of the parking is on the street, so you'll need to keep an eye out for pedestrians and bicyclists while looking for a spot. That's probably the biggest inconvenience of visiting this place. There is usually a 15 to 20-minute wait whenever we come for dessert, but we've always been seated within the quoted wait time, which we appreciate. The restaurant itself is fairly small, so the dining area can feel crowded. Tables are very close together, and you're practically sitting back-to-back with other guests. Because of this, the noise level can get pretty high, and it's easy to overhear conversations from nearby tables. The desserts are the highlight here. The BingSu is excellent, and the lava cake is one of our favorites. The menu is accessed through a QR code, making ordering simple and convenient. Food portions are decent, although prices are definitely on the premium side. Service is efficient, and the food and desserts usually arrive pretty quickly. We used to go to their city location regularly, but over the years we've found ourselves visiting this location more often because the area feels more comfortable and convenient for us. That has made this our go-to spot whenever we're craving dessert. Overall, this is a great place for dessert. The quality of the desserts keeps us coming back, but the difficult parking situation and cramped seating prevent it from being a full 5-star experience. Would definitely return for the BingSu and lava cake.

I originally came in for Dubai inspired chocolate pistachio cheesecake but was instead greeted so warmly by head pastry chef Nile! She is full of life and so passionate about her baked goods. I almost wanted to buy one of everything after hearing about each item. Desserts: *Blueberry Ube Cheesecake *Pistachio Ricotta Cake *Dubai Pistachio Chocolate Cake with Biscoff Cookie Butter *Red Velvet Cheesecake Cup Nile just baked the Dubai cake and mentioned she would have a slice for herself that night. It was sweet and decadent for sure. Definitely perfect for sharing! I loved the blueberry ube cheesecake and so did Mom! I was looking for my leftovers and they disappeared from the fridge. Creamy and slightly fruity with that thick buttery crust-- amazing! Pistachio Ricotta cake was light and moist. Perfect when you want something delicately sweetened for tea time. Red Velvet cheesecake cup was just ok for me due to the cheesecake frosting. I think I would've preferred a whole slice of cake instead. This bakery kiosk is a part of Turkish-Mediterranean restaurant Moussaka. Interior has the cutest cafe tables and chairs. Love the grey with baby pink + mint green color scheme. Step inside and go directly to the dessert display to place an order. They're also on DoorDash. Can't wait to see what Chef Nile comes up with next!
