Tasting Menu are for anniversaries. Arrived here on a Saturday evening. Initially just a few patrons sat in this cozy interior. But as the night grew later, the room filled each table with diners that the single host, runner, waiter did an excellent job attending to. The vinaigrette with the shaken beef was memorable. The thick slice on the hamachi, while still totally tender like butter was incredible. The bread pudding did not travel well, and separated like an over cooked cobbler, but the chocolate yuzu cake was a hit for breakfast the next morning. Next time I guess I must try the Saucy wings and the short ribs. But it was a generous portion for the Chef's Tasting Menu, and I'd highly recommend exploring the menu that way. read more

The food here was not bad but the service from the hostess was horrible. Basically thrusting dishes on our table and disappearing before we could ask for anything else -- Upon entering, the hostess/waitress pointed us to our table where we sat down for the evening. Our reservation was as for 8:30 and had ample time to order food and libations. Unfortunately, no one came to us for almost 15 minutes until I flagged down the waiter. It seemed the hostess was taking everyone's orders but ours. Our dishes arrived and she basically dropped them from a height off the table where it made a clang, said "croquettes" and whisked herself away before doing the same thing with some of the other dishes. We did not appreciate this service at all and it masked our experience and critique of the ambiance. The food was as not bad either -- The lechon lettuce pork wraps were a bit dry, I don't know if the sauce was missing or it was supposed to come with sauce? The best thing on the menu was the Thai tom yum noodles. We placed two orders and scarfed those down. The potato croquettes were fine. Not as memorable as the noodles. The sake also comes in a shot glass. I thought it would come in the typical bottle but it was $8 for a single shot which is a bit pricey. Overall, I wouldn't come here again. The waiter was nice but the hostess/waitress was horrid and the food wasn't exceptional enough to warrant a round two visit. read more

I was not impressed by the entrees here, we ordered the drunken noodles and yellow curry. Both dishes weren't very flavorful or spicy. Drunken noodles had a very small serving of noodles and wasn't very saucy at all. Typically the sauce sticks to the noodles but not with this dish The yellow curry was decent but nothing special. I added pork belly (+$3) and the amount of meat given was not a lot either. The salt and pepper wings were the best item we ordered. The wings were a good size, crispy, and served with a spicy, citrus fish sauce. The popcorn shrimp had too much batter, was not crispy, and doused in too much sauce in my opinion. Saucy has been my go-to stop for date nights, girls' nights, business meetings, family/friend celebrations, and solo cravings. The ambiance is modern yet intimate. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. Icing on the cake is their amazing staff. Food You have to get at least 1 hamachi spoon to start. The quality beats most sushi spots. Go early for happy hour drink and appetizer specials too (Wed to Sat from 5:30pm to 6:30pm). Everything from the tasting menu was balanced, flavorful and well made. My favorites were pretty much all of it, lol. Paired it with a glass of their house white wine (currently Grüner Veltliner) and finished it with a cup of genmaicha tea. Tasting menu: 1. Such a good combo of great ambiance, food, and price. I ordered the garlic noodles with tofu (10oz, it also comes in 5oz) and really liked it. The sauce was just enough to coat the noodles without pooling at the bottom. In general they market their cuisine as Pan-Asian , so there's lots of cool dishes from different Asian cuisines like gyozas, bao, udon, and lots more. Tons of vegetarian options too! The drinks have creative influence as well. In particular I liked the sake cocktail flight which comes with 3 mostly fruity, light cocktails from the menu (as a smaller portion) Ambiance inside is upscale but approachable and this is reaffirmed by the price point - everything was very reasonably priced, with most entrees around $16-18, and some fancier ones at $30. read more

I came here on a Friday night, and it wasn't too busy. The restaurant is so cute. It is on the smaller side, but decorated with plants, Asian inspired art, and beautiful lighting. I was able to get seated immediately and place my order shortly after that. The staff was very attentive and friendly, they gave several recommendations. The Hamachi Shooters and the Saucy wings are probably the best items on their smaller bites menu. The Hamachi was so soft and tender, and they literally melt in your mouth. The wings were seasoned well, and the honey glaze added a sweetness to it. It also had a kick since there were chili flakes on it, and the honey held it together. They were so good. The garlic noodles were sort of a letdown, lacking the garlic flavor and had more of a saltiness flavor to it. They weren't bad, but having garlic noodles be a bay area staple, it didn't meet my expectations. The drinks were different and provided an interesting taste! The coconut milk added to the thai tea added a freshness I haven't had before. The Spicy Momo was the good but definitely was on the spicier end. The Mango Pop is something I would recommend getting if you are staying on the lighter side with your meal! This is my second time there. The service was just as good as before. The servers are quick, attentive, efficient, and patient and they work hard to make sure the guest is pleased. The food was great! Just like the name implies, nearly everything is served with a sauce and the sauces are so good, I wish they were bottled and served. Even though there are only 2 dessert options which are usually a cheesecake and a seasonal flavored bread pudding, both are great and I always order both! Parking is not a problem. The inside is nice and peacuful and a nice mix of music plays that makes you want to sing while you eat. I even brought my children and sister this time and we all sang and ate and love this please. We stopped by for dinner and we had a great meal with all the happy hour items. There was a beautiful mural of hibiscus on the back wall, which would probably look good on Instagram. We especially liked the carafe of the guava/sparkling wine beverage, the fried chicken, and the ceviche. I would not recommend the Kama which seemed like it was deep-fried rather than grilled. There was only one person waiting on tables in the small space so the service was pretty bad. I had to keep going to the register to order more drinks and the server forgot one of our dishes until the very end. When we got our bill, we over charged us for beers we never ordered. When I asked them to take it off, they said they had done it but couldn't generate the receipt. When I checked my credit card bill later, I found that I had been charged for the beer and at that point, it was too much trouble to dispute the charges. read more

Good spot for happy hour in downtown Oakland! I recently visited Saucy Oakland with a friend, and overall, it was a pleasant experience. Happy hour is offered Tuesday to Saturday from 5-6 pm. We came on Friday evening around 5:45 and we were the first ones there, though it was full by the time we left around 7 with some folks waiting. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but the decor is charming and inviting. The happy hour menu includes both drink and food specials. We were planning to hit up a brewery afterwards, so we skipped the drinks and stuck to the food items only. I ordered take-out from here recently. The good news is that the Saucy Wings were good: decently sized, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The soy ginger honey glaze was tasty, albeit a little intense (very sweet and salty) - but it was manageable because I ordered it on the side. The bad news is that the Drunken Noodles were, for a lack of a better word, terrible, unfortunately. They were wayyyy too salty and had no flavor complexity. All I could taste was soy sauce, seeping into every single atom of the dish. I kept on digging around to find a spot that wasn't too salty, but couldn't. Not only, that, but I was also digging around to find pieces of sliced beef and veggies... in the end, I only found a few pieces of fibrous broccolini stems (not even the broccolini florets made it in there!). We also got drunken noodles, which again were a tiny helping of some dry noodles. The interior of Saucy is rustic yet modern and cute. There are Asian elements throughout the decor as well. Our waiter was attentive and great at recommending food to us. For food and drinks, we shared: - Strawberry guava sake spritzer carafes: 5/5 - Not too sweet, pretty tasty, and strong. We ordered 2 carafes for a good buzz. - Garlic noodles with egg: 5/5 - SO GOOD. Since we shared, we wish we got our own lol. - Hamachi spoon: 5/5 - Fresh, addicting, and so yummy. We ordered two orders of these. - Cajun lemon pepper fries - 3/5. It's fries. And the flavor was good. - Pork belly lettuce wrap - 4/5. The pork belly to lettuce wrap ratio was good. I also really liked the sauce. I love fusion Asian food and I think Saucy did a great job with their menu despite only tasting food from the Happy Hour menu. My partner took me here and a fun date night in Oakland. It's located on a busy street but we got lucky with street parking. Despite its small size, the cozy ambiance, adorned with hanging greenery and Japanese lanterns, made it the perfect setting for a romantic date. To our surprise, it happened to be happy hour when we joined so we decided to indulge in some of the offerings: Strawberry Guava Spritzer ($14): It came in a carafe with 2 glasses to share. The drink is delicious, it leans on the sweet side & doesn't have a strong Sake alcohol taste (which is a plus in my book!) 5/5!! Hamachi Spoon ($4/ea): This dish came out within minute of ordering. The yuzu is very potent, the hamachi itself isn't the best I've tried though. Saucy Wings ($12): This was SAUCY, just like the restaurant name. Though the menu listed as 5 wings, we somehow got 6 wings instead (yay!). We got medium and it still has quite a kick to it. The sauce itself is sweet & spicy. I would have liked it a little less sweet though. Saucy Udon ($16): This was the only dish that wasn't on the Happy Hour Menu but we had to get this since it was my first time seeing a gochujang udon! The menu listed that it came with bell pepper but it seems like ours got replaced with gailan. The presentation for this was a little lackluster. The portion was not very appealing either considering it was $16 without any protein added. I did like the taste, it was spicy and sweet and but the flavoring profile felt too similar to the wings that we got so we didn't really enjoyed this dish as much. Overall, the staffs was very nice & attentive. I'm not a fan of any restaurant with shady business practices and unfortunately Saucy landed in this category with tip % inflation/stealing post pandemic that a lot of restaurant owners have taken advantage of. To be fair, I should have calculated the tip amount prior to leaving as a gut check so I own up to this part on my end. Food was decent and staff were friendly. Parking is a bit difficult on a Friday night but we found decent luck on Clay Street this past weekend. I was charged $95.20 on my card after consuming a $70 total meal with my friend. This included sales tax, health surcharge, community kitchen and a suggested 18% tip. Tips are to be calculated on the pre tax amount always, NOT inclusive of sales tax. Looking at my receipt, 18% of a $70 meal is $12.60 yet on the suggested amount itself, it said $14.56 which is actually 18% of all those added surcharge fees. You should never tip on sales tax so I'm calling this business out for this. Like I said, I should have checked this before signing the check but wanted to warn anyone else coming here about this. I'm sick of restaurant owners being dishonest about tipping culture (which is astronomically out of this world anyways nowadays) and taking advantage of customers with our own hard earned money so I'm starting here. read more

I visited Saucy Oakland for Oakland Restaurant Week, and the special Restaurant Week menu was an amazing value that let us sample all of the greatest hits. We began the meal with succulent pork belly, followed by the hamachi spoons and duck spring rolls. By the time the pumpkin tofu curry arrived as the main course, I was quite full. The meal was rounded out with delicious pandan bread pudding a la mode (with ube ice cream). The highlight of the meal for me was the pumpkin tofu curry; everyone at my table commented on how lovely it smelled. I could probably have gone without the duck spring rolls, which were a bit dense and dry; however, I really enjoyed the multi-course tasting experience overall. Recently tried saucy Asian during Oakland restaurant week. We ended up going with the pre-fixe menu that offered a few different options. I ended going with the garlic noodles with beef, saucy wings, and pork belly wraps. Everything was DELICIOUS. The garlic noodles were very flavorful and there was a generous serving of beef on top. The wings were crunchy and well seasoned while the pork belly wrap was a great starter. The passion fruit cocktail we ordered was also super tasty. The servers were very friendly and helpful. Came here on a rainy night with the intentions of trying out this Asian fusion restaurant. It was raining outside and when we arrived, we had to wait; but I appreciate the staff letting us sit in the back of the restaurant as we wait for our table instead of outside in the rain. Shrimp popcorn (5/5): This was by far my favorite dish of the night. It came with pieces of deep fried shrimp and four pieces of shrimp chips and two different dipping sauces. The shrimp was lightly battered and airy. It had the perfect meat to crisp ratio. The sauces included a honey-mustard and spicy mayo sauces; complimented the shrimp very well. Saucy Udon (5/5):. This udon was drenched in gochuchang and topped with mushrooms. The udon tasted perfect and it was a bit spicy. Khao poon (4/5): This traditional Thai dish is curry-based and comes with shredded chicken breast and vermicelli noodles. The curry was a bit spicy, but very smooth. This is a kind of like a more watery Thai curry. My only complaint was that the noodle to curry ratio was off as it felt like I was only eating the curry. Pumpkins Green Curry (5/5): This tasted like your normal comforting Thai curry. I really enjoyed this one. Pandan Crème Brûlée (5/5): I would like to express my gratitude to the chef for offering this to us on the house. I also would like to mention that this was the best crème brûlée I've ever had. We had a great time at Saucy's for dinner and would definitely come bac. You walk in and the place is cute, the string lights and overhead lighting are a complete vibe. We came in during an awkward post-hally hour, pre-dinner time and were seated really quickly which was a relief because it's a smaller space. They had a wide range of sake and a few flights too! We ultimately decided on a spritzer which was light and fruity. We tried a few different shareable, all of which were really good and had unexpected twists which was fun. Some I was a huge fan of, others fell into the more intriguing category. I have to recommend the Pork Belly Bao, which was my favorite thing of the evening. Came on a weeknight to grab dinner with some friends and we really enjoyed ourselves. Cute decor, casual vibes and delicious food. I love Asian inspired dishes/flavors and this place did not disappoint! We had a reservation and were seated right away. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I ordered: - Truffle Garlic Edamame: might be the best edamame I've ever had. Super flavorful. I may or may not have licked my fingers. - Garlic Noodles: another winner. The garlic sauce is VERY garlicky and I loved it. The crunchy chili garlic was a nice touch. The noodles were well prepared. - Shiitake Mushroom Bao: light and fluffy bun with a savory sweet filling. Really enjoyed it. - Duck Eggrolls: my new favorite eggroll. I love duck confit and the dipping sauce was a great pairing - Saucy Wings: super crunchy, delicious glaze - Classic Sake Flight: a great way to try a wide variety of sake My only issue was that the service was a tad slow. Came on a Friday night for Happy Hour. Restaurant seemed understaffed as it was fairly empty and still took awhile for us to be seated and order. Best food item were the chicken wings. They were crispy and the sauce was a good balance of sweet, spicy and savory. Hamachi spoons were good, but not great. We also ordered drunken noodles, the beef entree, popcorn shrimp and the pork belly wraps. Everything was lacking in flavor and far overpriced for the portion size. Ordered cocktails and they seemed to be small portions as well - both myself and my friend only had about half a glass full. I had some meat at home and needed carbs but didn't want to cook anything. Luckily, saucy was nearby and garlic noods just happen to be the perfect base for my meat. Got there around lunchtime and I noticed there was a large group of at least 12 people who had just placed an order. The kind gentleman who took my order told me it was gona be about a 20 minute wait just for noods because of the large group. I hesitated a bit, cue sad face, I said it was ok I'd wait. I guess the chef heard and quickly yelled at "Just garlic noodles? I can whip that up real quick first!". The Chef Gods were present that day let me tell you. Five holy stars for these saucy mf.
