Absolutely trash service! I rarely if ever leave a bad review, but to the owner of this place, you are the reason god created the middle finger. My 3 year old and I showed up at 4:45pm. It's Christmas, you have about 4 people in line in front of me, (you are arguing with the local EMT's who are using a visa gift card to pay for their to go order, and refusing to use their visa because you think it's a scam card, until one of them politely, but firmly told you to swipe the damn card and low and behold...it fucking worked) and another 3 couples behind me, and 2 couples in your lobby waiting to be seated. I 100% get your'e busy, and I fully expect to wait 45+ minutes for a seat. I finally get my turn to speak to you to ask for a table of 2, and your response to me with the most dumbfounded look on your face, as almost as if I am stupid, was "full house, go somewhere else!" The people in your lobby heard you talk to me like that and looked completely shocked. The 3 people waiting behind my kid and I for a table looked appalled too! I even asked if we could wait and you said "look around full house" and then looked away like I was a ghost. So I said "we can't eat here?" And you didn't even acknowledge me talking. My kid instantly started crying because he realized we were not going to be served and didn't understand why I started to walk away. What's odd, is that you were willing to seat the older people in line behind me after I left, and one guy in the lobby was just shaking his head in disbelief. It took everything in me, and I mean everything in me, not to jump the counter and kick your ass and tell you what a POS you are because I didn't want my innocent kid to ever see that side of his dad. On second thought, maybe it would have been beneficial for my kid to see me pummel you. That way he knows what it means to stand up to jackasses like you. I will NEVER and I mean NEVER walk into your establishment again. I will do everything to convince the entire population of Sequim not to patronize you, and I will make sure of it. Every person I meet, I will tell them this story, and I will ensure your failure as a business. This would have been our first time eating at your place after living in sequim for the last 3 years, and what baffles me, is that you were willing to seat the other people in your lobby who just asked for a seat. Also, I could see at least 5 open 2 top tables. Do you have something against serving a toddler and his dad? Do you think that you won't get a big enough order from me with just a kid? If that's the case, then go to hell. Thanks for giving us a great end to our Christmas you coward. I am rooting for your business to fail. What's sad to think, is that there are trees working very hard to produce oxygen so that you can breath to keep your business open, I think you should go apologize to that tree because your a waste of oxygen. read more

This place was the most pleasant surprise so here is (probably too) long winded story. One of the frustrating things of the pandemic is not really knowing if a place is opened. We rely on yelp and look at recent reviews as a first filter. We then call the restaurant to confirm they are open. Smaller restaurants sometimes do not answer their phone. So on a Saturday night around 8 o'clock we drove into downtown Sequim and reached our destination only to find an empty parking lot and no lights on. For those of you unaware the average age in Sequim is around 104 (slight exaggeration). As a result there are very few restaurants opened after 8 o'clock. We pulled over and looked at Yelp and found only a few places with very mediocre scores open for business. So we then pivot to take out and we had had an inch for Chinese and call the first option with the highest reviews. Now you have been there too when you call a place that is open and yet when you want to place an order they say the kitchen is closed. It should be a rule that the kitchen is opened as long as the restaurant is open. But that is not the case with some smaller establishments and life goes on. Option number one loss was my gain as the second and only remaining choice was happy to take my order. I saw a few options and asked if they would swap out the protein and they were happy to do so I told them I wanted a spicy rating of four (out of five) and they nailed it. The first thing I have to mention is the portions here are out of this world humongous. I was convinced they made an error and gave me family platters and not entrées this could have fed six people easily and probably 10. So the bang for the buck was a winner but the real winner was me because the taste was amazing. This Chinese food has rivaled anything I've tasted in San Francisco or Los Angeles and easily the best Chinese food I've had in Washington. There are times when you are on yelp as a reviewer and it's just really difficult to describe how great the food was and this is one of those times. I can only say that I look forward to the next bite until we could not complete the entrées and I relished the idea that I would be finishing off these entrées over the course of a couple of snacks over the coming days. If you can't handle spice than this place is not for you or at least order with a spice rating of 1. Otherwise you need to take your baby boy taste buds and go to Panda Express. Fortune star was my fortune and I will come here every time I'm up this way. It will be too long before I get to visit again but I do look forward to it when that day arrives. There are many reasons that I got to this number. From the poor customer service when picking up the food. And hearing a interaction with another customer who wished them well and said sincerely kind thanks to them. As the man walked away I heard the females making fun of him.. I read big portions not true The soup had zero flavor I was shocked my husband had a different soup and that as well had no flavor. The main lunch specials the Sweet and sour was meh.. the chicken was under the rice and the sauce was on the side . Did enjoy the almonds but sad at over all. We live in town and have eaten at all the pleased in town more then once. I will we come back no. Safeway there food tasted better and the customer service is nicer as well. Wow, talk about a disappointing meal! I got into town around 2pm on a Sunday. I was looking forward to a good Chinese meal because my town does not have good options and I have eaten at Dynasty in Sequim before. Unfortunately, Dynasty is closed on Sunday so I called Fortune star for their Mongolian beef lunch special with brown rice and soup. For the nearly $20 that they charged for a lunch size portion (apparently because I asked for brown rice?), you would have thought the food would at least be flavorful and have more meat than peppers and onions. It was spicy as I requested but with very little flavor and very little meat. The fortune cookies provided were extremely stale and I had to toss them. I think they are taking advantage of the fact that the other good Chinese places in town are closed on Sunday and Monday. This restaurant is not recommended, makes me sad to say that about small businesses but there is no excuse for this experience. read more

I'm giving it a two purely because of the customer service at this place. There's a lot of Chinese food options here in Sequim and Port Angeles. The food is pretty good at fortune star, definitely a little pricier than the majority of restaurants like this one around the area. I'd come here again maybe once a year for their shrimp dumpling, but only as take out. When we went to leave the restaurant, our waitress (who had a pretty sour attitude from the beginning) decided to follow us outside with our receipt and tried to convince us to leave a tip. I'm normally a decent tipper, I do the 10-20% if I feel service is good. read more

My 2-star review is due to the change in service and lack of it when it comes to boxing up leftovers. When I started going here a couple years ago, usually during the lunchtime, the waitress would take my plate of leftovers and scrape them into the little Chinese food to-go container right there at the table. She did it so beautifully too and with ease, never making a mess; I really wondered how she did it so well, but maybe standing helps. Now, the past few times I've eaten there they've handed me the to-go boxes with the bag for me to box the leftovers myself. The boxes are not big containers, but the cute little Chinese food to-go boxes, which makes getting half a plate of slippery noodles into it a challenge that gives me anxiety while I anticipate a mess, and it doesn't make the dining experience end in as much joy as it used to. Pardon me if I don't want more work when dining out, especially when they didn't do that before, but the bar is lowering on the service standard and I don't like that. Is this what $11/hr minimum wage gets me as the customer who wants to enjoy one meal out during the week without being given more work to do for my meal? Exactly what more is being required of minimum wage employees in Washington State now, since they all got raises...anything? Ultimately, this is a sad statement on American business at the micro-economic level and that's why it is so concerning to me, because it is happening where I live and in the businesses I patronize. I want service, not just the good food, which the food is great so I have no complaints about the food or the dining atmosphere. This is a service issue to me because the service has gone down while the paying rate for staff has gone up; I don't think that's good sign and it shouldn't go unnoticed. Granted, for all I know there could be some health code that mandates servers not box up the leftovers; if that is the case, that is only a detriment to the business because now they provide less service for more money and it leaves me disappointed as the paying customer who wants service. And maybe it was just a personal waitstaff issue; some of them box food and some of them don't, but that only leads to inconsistent service which isn't good either. Whatever it is, it should be addressed so the customer doesn't have to do more work. I'll go back because I love the food and the decor, it's a pleasant and relaxing place to dine; the staff is nice, quick to greet and seat, and fast with food; just be forewarned that the service has changed, based on my own experiences in dining here as a local anyway. The host at the front desk (owner) did not even acknowledge us, a lady was pouring waters at a big table then motioned for us to come over(without saying anything). Again nobody spoke to us. We ordered the following: House Chow Mein Orange Chicken Spring Rolls House Pork Fried Rice Egg FU Yung Pork Baby Bok Choy Wife is deathly allergic to Shrimp, House Chow Mein came with Pork and Shrimp "didn't see that in the menu, could have been catastrophe. All the dishes were mostly breading, Orange chicken had almost not chicken. Egg Fu Yung was all breading not sure there was really any egg. Spring rolls were edible. Bok Choy, in theory healthy was covered in some sore of fat. The place looks really nice, the people were very nice, polite and professional. Wish I could rate them higher. The restaurant was really good the food was delicious we ordered the schezwuan eggplant. Beware when you order the extra spicy it really is very spicy. The portions are pretty good size and for the price it's pretty inexpensive. The service was really really good .I frequently found at other restaurants when you make special request you usually have to remind them more than once. But our waiter remembered all the instructions once and was very diligent in following up with us, the service was awesome and we will definitely be back read more

Been here 10 times and always loved it. The last time I went on 1/2/20 the waitress actually took an extra egg roll and dumpling off our platter by spooning the food we could keep onto my moms plate. Apparently we had received an extra. I couldn't believe my eyes I have never seen a waitress do this!!!! Then a few moments later that same food was served to the table behind us. Disgusting!!!!!!!!! I won't say that I am a Chinese food expert but I have had a lot of bad Chinese food and do consider myself somewhat of a Chinese food snob....I tend to be more picky than most people I know. That being said this place was one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever had. Their food was outstanding. Even both of my kids loved it. We had their pork fried rice which is easily a meal by itself. We also had Cripsy Sesame Chicken and the Dry Wok Tossed Green Beans. All three dishes were outstanding. You know your food was amazing when you are completely full but still want to eat. Highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone. My only disappointment is that I dont live in Sequim and can enjoy their food on a regular basis. You can bet if I am back in the Port Angeles area, I will be stopping here again! read more

You enter this restaurant through a common lobby area which is a little odd but the restaurant itself is nicely furnished. Friendly efficient staff. The chicken in garlic sauce was delicious. Nice fresh flavor with crisp vegetables. The nine flavor beef was a disappointment. The texture of the meat was mushy and the dish would be improved with addition of vegetables and a little less meat. Prices reasonable. I would try it again when visiting. read more

They never checked back, or filled our waters. They brought our check while we were still eating, and didn't offer dessert. I am giving this restaurant one star for the food and that's it. I was taking my daughter out for a nice dinner and suggested we try Fortune Star. It was the most unfriendly restaurant experience I have ever had. The owner & the young woman server don't smile or greet you and barely acknowledged us during the meal. The unhappy server came & took away plates with soy sauce on them not long after they had been set down without asking us if we were going to use it & I didn't like that. I thought the food was good and that's why I gave it 1 star. The bill was not quite $50 for our two combination plates and I handed the server a $10 bill and got no "thank you", smile, or anything. I went to pay the bill with a bank card & I put a zero where the tip should go & I told the owner I had already paid the server with $10 cash. He gave me my copy of the receipt & we left. My daughter had barely started the car & noticed that the owner had not only left the restaurant but was standing out of a back door to the little strip mall where the restaurant is located inside. He seemed to be looking at our car so my daughter rolled down her window & asked if something was wrong. He questioned that we had not left a tip! Again, I yelled out the window of the car that I had given the server a $10 tip & the owner asked if I had left it on the table. Again, I told him I had handed the girl the $10 bill. If other people had been around when this "accusation" had occurred I would have been very upset and mad & probably would have stomped out of the car on the very cold, wet night & told the owner off to his face. Apparently, from all of the many, many bad reviews of this restaurant & how the owner badgers people over tipping it's surprising anyone goes there. So Iv loved this restaurant for years but a week ago I parked in the parking lot to pick up my to go order and I noticed one of the chefs was outside smoking but also looking around towards anyone as if something was happening. My car was off I stayed calm and still and then witnessed him lifting his white chefs apron to be able to pee right outside the kitchen door. Then zipped his pants up ( and I'm HOPING he washed his hands when he went back in the building. And that was that. I'm beyond appalled bc this restaurant has nice bathrooms so for any kitchen staff to think that pissing outside the kitchen door is ok is beyond me . I will never order from them again. read more

Fortune Star stayed open throughout the pandemic for take out. There was no drop in quality. Still by far the best Chinese food on the Olympic Peninsula. Staff is friendly and efficient. Our most recent dinner, after the re-opening, was June 19, 2020. The food remains unbeatable! read more

Each time I go here I seem to have issues. Most with getting my meals. Recently a large party of ours ordered and they forgot drinks and appetizers of ours. Last night, it took 20 minutes to get one spring roll, and then when my friends meal came, mine was no where to be found. After about 7 minutes of waiting, I asked the manager if my meal was coming out and he said he was going to check on it (after mentioning "tomorrow" in a joking way. After going to the lobby for 5 more minutes, he finally headed to the kitchen and came back and said "1 minute". Each time I have had an issue there is never any "sorry" or "apologies". Waiting for more than10 minutes while your friends waits to eat with you is nonsense. The food is fine, but its not great. In my opinion, if the food is not worth dealing with bad customer service, I wont be back. read more
