But this guy really went for it. I was absolutely not going to buy it, so I told him flat out, "Is this really worth your time? I'm obviously a tough person to sell to. Don't you want to try someone else?" He kept at it, threw in a little extra, and promised that I could do a consultation appointment before my haircut. The salon fkin delivered. Michael put up with my skepticism well. I got the best curly haircut of my life, and 1.5 months later it still looks hot af. I don't know if I can afford his normal rate plus the salon fees, but I love my hair so much I will be back whenever my bank account allows it. read more

My friends made fun of me when they heard I bought this deal off the street to come to a salon for a promo. First, I trust no one so I don't know how this man convinced me to venmo him money. Two, I've never taken a gamble on something like this let alone my hair. After reading the reviews, I felt a little better and saw Michael was the one to go to. Not only did he give me probably one of the best cuts I've ever had, but I've already booked my next cut and color. He books up quick and for a good reason! Not only is he good at what he does, but he's genuine, keeps it real and truly wants to make sure you leave happy (no matter if you came thru a promo or not). I'm hooked. Let me start out on a positive note by mentioning the super friendly receptionist (I think her name is Linda) who greeted me when I entered the salon and promptly asked me if I needed anything. I found Foster Glorioso from receiving a marketing promotion for a $49 haircut/highlight. My natural blonde hair had grown out about 5 inches since my last hair coloring (at Bumble and Bumble downtown) and instead of seeing my usual girl there (Sasha), I decided to give this place a shot due to their great Yelp reviews. Since my hair was pretty grown out, I wanted to use that as the darkest color of balayage and progress into a bright blonde. I saw Michael, who seemed to know exactly what I wanted. He repeated that I wanted a "rooty" blonde with bright blonde ends. Which was all correct. After he rinsed off my hair color, I could tell right then that there were major issues. There were big orange spots by my crown. Also, there was a bright demarcation between my roots and where he applied the hair color. I chalked it up as me being too particular and waited for him to finish cutting and styling my hair. The next day when I washed and blow dried my hair myself, I noticed how much bleeding there was from the painting (resulting in many spots). Additionally, the back of my head there is a harsh line where he started coloring without any blending or "ombre" effect. The hair cut is blunt layers, again with no blending. Mind you, I paid $270 + $60 tip to upgrade to the balayage. I don't mind paying more for my hair if the results prove it was worth it. In this case it couldn't be farther from the case. When I called to tell them I was unhappy, Linda, again, was super friendly and offered me to come back in to see someone else. I said I wasn't comfortable trusting anyone else there with my hair. I will be going back to bumble and bumble downtown (and spending an additional $600) to fix the disaster that is my head. Obviously, I would have preferred my money back. Since this salon seems to service older clientele, I recommend anyone looking for a more trendy look go elsewhere. read more

I was into taking a risk (hair grows, it's just a cut) so I gave them a try, and was not disappointed. Sharifa gave me the best cut and style I've had in years. The place was chill and quiet, Sharifa was low key, easy to talk to and very skilled. After the really good cut, when it came to the blowout she took care not burn my scalp with the blow dryer. Getting any hair service anywhere new can be harrowing but from the moment I arrived at FG, the experience was delightful! My appointment began with a very warm and gracious greeting from the receptionist and staff. The place has a relaxed vibe. Good lighting and clean. The best part was meeting my stylist, Sharifa. She was awesome- cool, patient, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to about my hair woes and fears (cutting a good amount of length- scary!). Like so many others, I came here because a cute guy in Union Square offered me a great deal... or at least what I thought was a great deal. A friend and I came to the salon this weekend for our hair cuts and color. She had a great experience, I did not. THIS DEAL IS JUST A PLOY TO GET YOU TO UPCHARGE. PURCHASE AT YOUR OWN RISK. When I first arrived, I explained to Michael that I was very excited to color my hair for the first time in 10 years. Unfortunately, he said that because of the nature of the haircut I had and the layers I was trying to blend, that the highlights I PAID FOR as part of the package were not recommended. He said he needed to protect his reputation as a stylist, rather than MY wallet and return business as a customer. After he refused to give me the services that I had paid for, he only offered as alternatives the 20% discount on a single process color or full head of highlights. both out of my price range and not what I had even wanted. I left feeling duped and frustrated. Never once did he offer me an additional discount, a discount on a return visit or anything else to make up for paid services he refused to render. I understand that I am not a "color director" but I felt he could have come up with a viable alternative that would have let me leave the salon happy instead of disappointed. SUPERB JOB! I came here after a random good looking man stopped me on the street for a special promotion - image consulting, deep conditioning, cut and 12 foils for like half or even quarter their normal price. Usually I keep my hair long, layered and minimalistic - no color or any changes in the last 10+ years! However I was LONG overdue for an image makeover and I couldn't have made a better choice! I went in with some ideas from a hair magazine but wasn't really sure what I could pull off. The salon is beautiful and classy not trying to be too "trendy" . Great service and the staff are friendly. Hannah was my stylist and went to great lengths to explain and figure out how to give me what I wanted with something I could manage (minimal maintenance!) and patiently explained all the different options to me (being a color virgin). She also explained each step as she worked on my hair and when I asked more questions had such in depth knowledge about what she was doing - was really impressed! The end result was fantastic - the cut & color - I haven't been this proud of my hair EVER! We came to the salon with a bunch of ideas -- blunt bangs, asymmetry, jagged lines, colors, not booooring. We wanted it BOLD, but also low maintenance. Crazy cut, but not hideous when it grew out. We showed our ideas to Michael to which he replied, "Yea! I can probably mix this, this, and this together and then put my own ideas into it. No matter what, your hair will look fantastic." What I loved about Michael is that he takes the essence of what you want and then applies creative license (while still asking for your permission to proceed forward). Like many others, I, too, bought the introductory promo off the street, and regretted it until I got my hair done with Sharifa yesterday! She was pleasant, and we had great conversation. She genuinely seemed like she cared about the well being of my hair, and not just trying to get me to be a client. I got a beautiful cut and blow dry -- she gave me tips on how to make sure the blowout lasts. The only down side is beware if you got the promo, as you will see in the pamphlet you are required to pay $25 upfront in cash at the salon (plus tip), which I saw after I purchased. I've been growing my hair out in order to donate it, and I was looking for a place for the big cut. I didn't have a salon in NY, and recommendations were coming up short (too inconvenient, not open on weekends, etc.). I came across Foster Glorioso (and Michael) by change, and it was amazing. I'm hooked. I cut off about 10 inches, and, as he put it, it's a very sassoon look. The lines are wonderful, and it doesn't require any product to maintain, which was crucial. I didn't come in with a sense of what I wanted, and Michael talked to me about it, he showed me pictures, and he didn't try to persuade me one way or the other. Well... he did steer me away from the "Friends"-style bob of yore, which I appreciate. I will say that the haircut also passed the first shower test -- after a shower, can I re-do it and still make it look presentable? The answer was a resounding yes! Since moving to NYC in August 2013, I'd been growing my hair out due to being nervous to find another stylist so beloved as the one I'd left in Vancouver! I thought - what the hell? After having serious buyer's remorse, I went Yelp shopping to find out more about this place and discovered a bunch of great reviews for Hannah and her short-cutting skills. Since I wanted to cut a great deal off and change my style, I felt pretty good and booked an appointment. Friends? I have never once looked back. Hannah is amazing. She wasn't afraid to give me a big change (long to pixie-ish!), told me why she thought what she did about the cut and gave me tips to style. I have gone back many times since and really just look forward to the whole experience. Not only is Hannah amazingly talented, but she listens to what you want but also takes into account your lifestyle, your face shape and tells you honestly what will work. She's also so helpful with styling tips, products and so forth! (I am now forever sold on Living Proof!) All the staff are so pleasant, welcoming and attentive, too. Like many others, I came here after buying a discount voucher in union square. I was hiiighly skeptical when I bought it, but the guy was very convincing so I decided to go for it. I'm glad I did! The deal was everything I hoped it would be: they didn't pressure me to spend any additional money, which I appreciated. The salon itself is nice, and everyone is friendly and welcoming. The robes they give you to change into during your cut are extremely soft (and oddly flattering?). I came in after a particularly stressful day at work, and the whole experience really helped me to relax. My stylist was the namesake Michael Glorioso. He's young, but very talented and caring. There's really only one thing I care about when it comes to getting my hair cut, and that is: can they do curly hair? Many stylists are absolutely clueless (and sometimes terrified) when it comes to curly hair. Michael clearly knew what he was doing. He was trained at Devachan Salon, so really, he's a master. He gave me a proper Deva cut: did the actual cutting with my hair dry, to fit the shape of the curls. He worked well with my vague, wishy-washy opinions on how I wanted it cut, and it turned out great. He's also hilarious! I'd love to come back for my next cut. I also came in with the voucher I purchased from a bubbly guy at Union Square. The salon is a nice space and was really quiet on a Friday evening. My stylist - I forget her name but she was a waify black girl with cropped hair - was great and took excellent care of me. I got the foils through my crown which did brighten up my highlights. The issue that I had with the salon was that when I requested toner, it was a $95 item!! I've never heard of toner costing more than $50, even in New York. I'ts only a 5 minute process. It really threw me for a loop but I paid up. They don't publish their prices so I felt like it gave them license to up-charge. With that kind of ambiguity and sticker shock, I don't think I'll be returning. read more

I also got pulled aside on the street for a deal, and did the haircut and styling. I was considering going from very long to a short cut, and Michael was phenomenal. He could tell that I was a little nervous about such a drastic change, and checked in with me before each step (cutting it off, adding layers, texture, etc.) and explained why he was doing everything. I felt completely at ease with him, and he was really an expert. Michael was also training another girl while he was cutting my hair, so I felt very lucky to even understand why he was holding the scissors a certain way or why he was cutting at a certain angle. While the cut is a little more expensive, I think it's absolutely worth it to have a stylist who you can so completely trust. Next time, I would go back to Michael, close my eyes, and tell him to do whatever he wanted. read more

Like many others, I bought a promo from Elijah Flowers who was hawking around Union Square for women in dire need of total hair makeovers. I NEVER EVER and I mean NEVER give in to people trying to sell me things on the street, but this guy's darned cunning ways and charm made me give in. He sold a cut + style package to me for about $37.13 + $15 in person fee + $7 tips = $49.13. The most expensive haircut I've ever had in my life (Yes, I'm frugal--I'm a poor college student-- a vagabond who's not a trust fund kid). Despite the higher than my usual prices, I have no regrets! Sharifa was a darling! Extremely hospitable, down-to-earth, and most importantly she gave me a cut I really liked straight off the bat! (and I'm extremely picky when it comes to cuts because I've been traumatized by many a mullet-crafting Asian hairdressers... Okay, maybe it's my fault-- I look for places that charge $25 or under and I guess you get what you pay for.) Anyway, this was one of the best haircuts I've ever had! So I bought a deal for this place from a guy in Union Sq park and was basically expecting to be let down. Surely I had just gotten ripped off and would regret taking the chance on buying the deal. Well, it was totally worth it! I was able to get an appointment within a week and a half of calling. The receptionist went over the terms of my deal with me on the phone so there would be no confusion (it isn't that complicated, but still). When I got there, the staff couldn't have been any nicer. They offered coffee, tea, water, magazines, etc. I had Sharifa style my hair. She listened to everything I wanted and gave me some great input and created a good style for me. I was skeptical about getting the highlights because I always let them grow out too far and get that ugly "I let my highlights grow out" hair color line. She placed the highlights a bit underneath my top layer of hair so they would be less noticeable when growing out. With the deal I bought, this was totally worth it. Yes, this place is a bit expensive otherwise, but I'm from Long Island and not used to NYC prices. Also, I have long hair and truly only cut it about twice a year, so I would gladly shell out a couple bucks to come back here in 6 months. read more

I had a disappointing experience at this salon. I bought the package deal off the charming guy on the street too (my own fault -- I know never to buy anything off a dude on the street!) When I came in, the stylist I requested was not available. I was also told that if I wanted to get the highlights, I would have to come back in a separate time because the stylist did not have enough time to do both the haircut and the highlights (even though I indicated that I wanted both over the phone). The haircut was ok. Then I was told that because my hair is dark, I would need to pay a lot more than the package deal indicated in order to get the free highlights that were included in the package deal. I have had highlights before, so that should be indicated on the deal when they sell it to you. I ended up not getting any highlights at all. Anyways, long story short, did not regret this in the end and so glad I did it. I did forget my promotion pamphlet at home, so the reception took my CC info and told me I had a few days to return the pamphlet, or else they would charge me. Best hairsalon experience I had in NYC! I have tried a few salons in NYC, but no matter how often I said I'd be happy to have the hair cut shorter and have layers, and that I always let my hair air drye, it invariably stayed fairly long and and looked great only the day they blow dried it, but disappointing when I let itair drye at home and it almost seemed my curls had gone. Not so this time! I got a perfect bob that brought back all my curls and looks just as great when I style my hair at home. I am getting lots of compliments from everyone. read more

I've been to him 4 times in the past year. He definitely knows what he's doing with color and also does great with the cuts. I recommend her for anyone who has curly hair and needs help figuring out how to maintain moisturized, flourishing curls. My mom goes to Yessenia also, but has had cuts and color done by Michael. I'm so impressed with how seriously this salon is taking the COVID-19 standards! I feel so many businesses aren't taking this virus threat seriously and are putting their customers in danger. But not here! They take your temperature upon arrival, they make you wash your hands prior to seating you, they provide a mask if you don't have your own, the stylists wear face shields in addition to masks and everything is PRISTINE! I've never seen a salon with no hair on the floor...how does that even work?? I got a men's cut from Michael (the owner) after not having my hair cut since February and he made me look like a new man! He was so professional, attentive and ensured my needs were met. Also I have to say as an owner, he looks the part! He was dressed to Impress, his face shield had the Chanel logo on it and he was just overall fabulous! Showmanship counts in a salon and he is definitely a showman! It's actually fun watching him work. Everyone was so nice from the receptionist to the young man who washed my hair. Michael was a pro and made sure to set the tone. I felt safe and comfortable going to his salon for the first time since NYC reopened and would recommend them to anyone looking for a chic and private space with friendly service and very talented stylists who take the health guidelines seriously! So many things in the package and the reviews online seemed great so I said sure why not. I show up and everyone was nice. I had a consultation with my stylist and I even showed her a bunch of pictures of how I wanted my hair and she understood and agreed. We talked about how I wanted to go shorter but not too short, discussed the length and she said she understood completely. I had complete faith in her abilities based on the reviews. My stylist was nice and she made my hair look good however it was NOT what we talked about and this made me upset. Yes the hair looked good but I trusted her to do something and she did it wrong and made my hair shorter then what we talked about. Even my friends and family were shocked by how short it was. Also even though they say 12 foils of highlights, they want you to purchase a glaze or gloss to go with it otherwise they won't do it; and people talked about being offered different beverages... Did not happen. I know I also got this hair conditioning but I don't think I got the cellophane treatment even though it says it comes with it. Plus if you get pulled aside read the promotion, they want you to pay an extra $15 for first timers, and I didn't see that until I walked away. Won't go back again. read more
