My husband and I had dinner at Fosters Kitchen on our last night in Hawaii. I enjoyed the special and my husband enjoyed the fish & chips. Both were prepared perfectly. Curren, our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable with us. Olivia, the manager came to our table at the end to see how our dinner was. We appreciated the time she took to talk to us even though it was the end of her shift. The restaurant is small but comfortable and view of the lake was nice. We look forward to going again next time we are in Hawaii. read more

Foster's Kitchen was within walking distance to our hotel (plus) and didn't feature live music, at least on the night we ate here (another plus). Although there was a hostess stand outside, it didn't seem to be manned and there was some confusion about how to get seated (minus). Luckily the bartender saw us and another party and shepherded us inside to be seated. Once seated, however, service was friendly and prompt. I ordered the Candied Bacon Chicken Sandwich (recommended by the waitstaff) and my husband got some sort of fish thing (maybe a fish burger?) His fish was moist and cooked perfectly. The candied bacon chicken sandwich was really good though I wish the bacon was sandwich-sized and didn't stick out the sides. For dessert, I got the lilikoi cheesecake, which was to die for and the nearly the best thing I had the entire trip. We went back a couple of nights later and got two Thai chicken salads to go. They were delicious although for $24, I would have liked a little more of everything. We came for steak -- my son's 9th birthday request -- but the real revelation was the blue marlin fresh catch, which might be one of the best fish dishes I've ever had, and my standards are not low. Both my husband and I cleaned our plates! The steak delivered too; my son is convinced it's the best he's ever had and he takes that ranking very seriously. We stopped here on our way back to Kona after a trip to Hawi. I can't say enough for the staff. They went out of their way to make our experience special. My husband and I shared an order of crab cakes and fish and chips, which were delicious. The setting in King's Marketplace was relaxing and we were able to enjoy a hula demonstration outside of the restaurant afterwards. I have had interactions with the owner after confusion on a reservation at his other restaurant and he went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. Don't miss this one! read more

Wow! We walked in late and they accommodated seven of us. The food was fantastic and Pauly was so awesome. We had crab cakes, calamari, steak, shrimp, side vegetables, and cheesecake. My brother and his wife made sure I ate at Fosters while on my stay on Big Island. They had been living in the area for several months and said this restaurant was their favorite. We went on a Friday evening, with no wait for a table. Service was excellent. Wava, our server, was a peach and never left us waiting. I ordered the Ahi Stir Fry.. I was impressed with the price (it being lower than the average restaurant) and it definitely fulfilled my craving! The ahi was perfectly seared, with a yummy rice and veggie combo to go with it. I was so happy afterward. My meal truly brought me joy! The atmosphere was inviting for all types, fancy or casual wear both suited this restaurant. We popped in for dinner on Wednesday. Great service, seated and served water. Nice view of the lagoon. The tomato bisque was lukewarm - prefer a hot soup. The grilled cheese sandwich was a nice touch for dipping into the soup. Stuffed mushrooms were ok. Fish and chips - fish and coating were dry making it hard to enjoy the dish. The good: friendly service, extensive menu (something for everyone). Good kid's menu (everything is $10 if you are under 12). The bad: awkward entry, atmosphere. It seems the host stand is outside of the actual restaurant, but at 2PM when it's not busy this isn't staffed and you are left walking into an awkward entry that lacks flow/direction. The "meh": Happy Hour is 2-5 which is simply $2 off drinks and appetizers. read more

I didn't love cheeses that were in the sandwich, and the bread was soggy, it was also m just folded over.. not cut at all that was interesting.. Located in the Kings Market, this is a good option for anyone staying in the Waikoloa Beach area. Lots of parking available in the lot and if you get here at the right time you can get seating either outside or inside along the windows for a view of the water and Mauna Kea. The menu has a good variety for everyone and a daily fish special. We choose the steakhouse burger, kids mac and cheese, and candied bacon chicken sandwich. Everything came quickly and was hot. This is a beautiful spot, right by the water's. We had a great server name, Bri. She was pleasant, friendly, and attentive. I asked about some food and she highly recommended it and it was definitely delicious. The seafood pastry was the highlight for me. I really enjoyed it. My husband didn't really like the fish or the crab cake, but it was editable. I didn't visit the restroom, but the restaurant was clean, bright, and airy. A lovely restaurant with friendly staff. We went on a Friday night so it was busy and I think they gave our waisteress too many tables. I felt bad for her because she was very friendly. The food was good, the crab cakes were the best. I had the pork chops and they were very salty which worked out for how much I needed salt after my day but might be a bit much for someone else. Ordered Chicken Pesto and hubby ordered Chicken & Bacon sandwich on grilled sourdough. Both choices were a good pick. Sat indoors for the A/C. It was too windy outside. View of the pond is visible anywhere in the restaurant. We were a table of 4 and were seated at a corner table. When a table next to a window opened, with an obstructed view of the pond, they moved us there. A plus for our visiting friends. This is a very short walk from the Island Market, so we wanted to give it a try while picking up food. The food was great (fish & chips plus fish tacos) and the wait staff are super nice. There's no outside seating, which was disappointing, but there is a nice view of the little waterway from inside. We were in Waikaloa, King's Shops for work and looking for a place for lunch. Foster's offers on-line ordering. I got their Gumbo bowl over rice. It was delicious. Their grilled cheese had caramelized onions and was such a treat. Really nicely done. I enjoyed it with a cup of their tomato bisque. Great American bistro style food with a local influence. We ventured to Hilo from Kona while visiting Kilauea. We were looking for food spots in the area and happened upon Fosters Kitchen. As with Hawaii this restaurant is right up on the waterfront with beautiful views. We appreciated the kind service. It was hot and it's an open air restaurant so it was slightly warm but nothing to complain about as you are in paradise! We ordered the calamari as an appetizer with a few drinks all were wonderful, fresh, and delicious! Where things went off course was our entree's. My wife got the fish and chips, i got the steak (cooked medium) and shrimp, and my son got the fried chicken. The fish and chips tasted like they were frozen and did not have a pleasant taste or texture. The steak was raw and quite chewy, I gave up fighting with it after about 4-5 bites. Shrimp was rubbery and my son's chicken was dry and tough. For the prices we were not pleased with our entree's and that's the only reason for the review, the price doesn't match the quality. The bar seemed to have a bee problem with bee's swarming the bar (about 20-30 bee's). All in all the views are stunning, the staff are kind and welcoming, but the food isn't the best. read more

Order half rack of ribs, planning on taking some home. Sadly, did not the ribs were tender, juicy, and hot! Sides were fresh fruit cup - pineapple, oranges, and strawberries. Kudos to Chef Shelton and his staff for the excellent food. Leaith was attentive, made sure our beverages were never empty. Once she delivered the food, checked back multiple time to be sure we were satisfied. Her smile and aloha, is one reason, this is our favorite eatery! The entire staff treats us like family! Convenient walk across the street from the Marriott! Ribs Half - fantastic lilikoi bbq sauce - thankfully the ribs were moist and tender but this sauce could make anything taste amazing. I was worried from previous reviews, but this was the best dish we had! The veggies were decent but that sauce...so so good. 5 stars. Szechuan Ahi Stir-fry - nice seared ahi and veg. We subbed mashed potatoes for rice and it still worked with the dish even though the seaweed salad was sitting on top of the mash. Tasty. 4 stars. Fresh Catch - the marlin was perfectly cooked and the veggies and mash were great but the strawberry slaw tasted fermented. We mentioned the slaw was off since it was pretty bad and they discounted the item. If not for the slaw it would had been an excellent dish. 4 stars. Kids cheeseburger - the meat was good quality but had some chewy pieces that the kiddo didn't love. The bread was a slightly sweet bread and good cheddar cheese. Nice fruit cup. 4 stars. Decided to stop by Foster's after a day at Kua Bay and it was a great experience! I ordered the fish and chips and I've never had fish so lightly fried and delicious in a fish and chips order! I generally like to eat on the healthier side, so it was nice to have that lighter touch instead of deep fried in batter. The staff was very accommodating on where we wanted to sit and Arnold was the best waiter we had our entire Hawaii trip! If I were to open a restaurant tomorrow, he'd be the first person I'd hire for my staff! It was nice to have a meal with a great view of the pond and we enjoyed the laid back atmosphere!
