First, we had a to go order for cheesesteaks that hit the spot after a long travel day. Super tender meat & flavors. The next day, we wanted Johnny's again and made time to eat in. OMG the breakfast portions were the perfect way to start the day of adventuring the island. Umami-fulled loco moco made me so happy while my husband raved about the crispy hash browns and made to order scramble. For the ambiance, the weather was perfect on the patio and it's cool to watch the golfers get ready for their rounds. I'm a very loyal customer, however I went to have lunch Wednesday after golf clinic and playing a round of golf, I ordered wings, I was surprised that the restaurant now charges for dipping your wings $2.00, I asked the server why, she simply said oh yes it started a few weeks ago. Question are we as consumers will just continue to accept business to charge any amount???? I feel the facility is nickel and dime us! As a loyal customer for 4.5 years, now not happy. Stopped by Johnny's Waikoloa and tried the honey garlic wings and the Good Ol Burger. The honey garlic wings were definitely the standout for me. Super crispy on the outside, fresh, flavorful, and coated perfectly without being overly messy. The order came with about 8-pieces and every wing came out hot and fresh with that sweet savory glaze that keeps you reaching for "just one more." Tiny flavor fireworks. The Good Ol Burger was exactly what you want from a classic burger. Nothing overcomplicated, just a juicy patty with all the fixings on a soft delicious bun. Simple comfort food done right. Waitress was quick and to the point . But no hard feelings. Overall, good food, fresh ingredients, and a chill Waikoloa vibe. Came into Johnnys after a round of golf with my family. The guys in the clubhouse told us to get the Mushroom Swiss and Chopped Cheese. Our server Amy was very kind and also gave us good recommendations for the rest of our stay. Our drinks unfortunately took more than 15 minutes for a draft beer, Diet Coke and fruit punch. My wife watched the bartender who was also named Amy put on her makeup and use her cell phone while we and other bar guests waited to get our drinks. Thankfully our server grab our drinks. We also noticed the kitchen staff maybe the chef bringing out food orders to the bar. The live music was a treat with an open patio that had a nice island breeze. Minus the no urgency from the bartender, my family had a great meal and experience at Johnny's. Came for lunch at 1:00pm. Told the wait was 10 minutes. Not a problem to wait. But there was 8 open seats on the bar, and three 5 seater rounds. First time visitors at Johnnys, live Hamakua and stopped on the way home from Kona. Was already dark and wanted to eat and grab a cold beer. Didn't know what to expect except from reviews which seems okay. Parking lot lighting really poor, never work in Kona. Got to the door and its full sports bar vibe, loud, echoing room. All good, sat outside in open covered dining area. Wait staff very friendly and timely. Ordered an Alaskan IPA as the local choices weren't our favorites. Companion had a sandwich and I was eyeballing the wings. Good wings are a hard find on the island. Couple glasses of water before the beer should have been the first clue along with my arms sticking to the table top. Not sure if the pipes are bad or what but couldn't take the taste. Beer came was relatively warm and lacked any, let's say flavor. Warm is the bar, taste is the beer, what are you gonna do. Food came and remained optimistic. My companions sandwich, a chopped burger on a po boy was very tasty. An odd combo but they pulled it off. The wings though were disappointing. Like buying a bag at Costco and throwing them in the oven. Still on the hunt for decent wings on island. Overall underwhelming, will we go back, I doubt it. read more

I've been coming to Johnny's many times in the past and the servers are always happy here! Those ladies work very hard and super friendly. That alone will be a reason to come here for a bite to eat. But also we're so happy that now we can get Cubano sandwich at this restaurant. We used to only able to order cubano at the Johnny's food truck at Makani Golf course, but the truck is gone now, and we were craving the cubano sandwich ever since. It is so delicious! The thick cut pork is so tender and flavorful, it melts in your mouth! Crunchy bread grilled perfectly to hold those meats t other with cheese... Mmmm, another please! We had a much better experience here than any of the other restaurants in Waikoloa, etc. The food was affordable (for Hawaii standards lol) and the service was top notch.
