My husband had the Cajun Shrimp Pasta, my youngest had the kids Mac and Cheese, and my daughter and I split the Steakhouse Pasta. He enjoyed his pasta and it had a ton of flavor. It was a little oily. My daughter liked her Mac and cheese but said it didn't have much sauce and I agreed. Don't eat here. Ate here twice and hated both experiences. Drinks are super-weak; there's hardly any alcohol in them. Fish tacos are trash- no flavor and they just throw raw cabbage on top. Tortilla completely fell apart. Customer service is terrible! Waitress put in my order completely wrong the second time we went and took away my plate even though I was willing to eat it anyway (I was starving). Also waited forever to eat. AND my order was STILL wrong when she brought it out again. Overall vibe here is terrible as well. Not a welcoming restaurant, and host/waitresses are snobby. read more

Well, this was our second and last visit to this place. First I loved the taste of your calamari but when it's served cold it feels like a lump of fat in your mouth,not Good! We saved it and heated it at home. The orders were so backed up under the heat lamps that it was full and just sat there, the same food for 15 minutes just sitting there getting old but they are still going to charge you for that fresh food! Before we came inside we asked the lady outside at the front what the fresh catch was? She told us that the fish was interchangeable for each dish. We waited about 25 minutes for our salad, they brought the wrong dressing. Our food arrived after awhile, we both ordered the same dish, fish and chips. Only my husband ordered the opah and I ordered ono, he ordered the Cajun fries but everything looked the same. So we asked the guy who delivered it who was not our server which was which? ( i think 4 different servers so there was no continuity in service) Because my husband is allergic to Ono and breaks out in hives when he eats it. The server didn't know and said I think it's right, how he originally set it down. we waited until our waitress came back quite awhile later and asked her, she made a big production with her face too close to our food and held them up in the air and did a close inspection of our food and she said well your lucky because they are both opah (moonfish), she did not ask if we wanted to replace it with what I actually ordered, she said well you like the opah? Like I should just be satisfied with that. And both of our French fries tasted exactly the same not Cajun, but upon her close inspection she saw a pepper flake on my husbands and said his were Cajun fries. My husband asked flat out can you remake her food to get what she ordered? She just left and we didn't know if she did make another order for us and then a man came awhile later with ono the correct fish and Cajun fries (which I could smell were the ones my husband originally was supposed to get). By this time I was freezing (take a jacket, it only feels good for the first ten minutes and then it's just uncomfortable) and just asked for it to be boxed up as my husband had finished his food, so much for a nice dinner date out with my husband!. It's too expensive to have a bunch of clueless people wandering around not knowing what food is what and not immediately fixing an order that they made wrong. I don't like their payment method where they stand there and stare at you while you decide on a tip for a person who doesn't know what they are doing. We live on the island in waikoloa and eat out quite a bit, this was the final time for fosters kitchen, they need to tighten up their process because I feel like going out to dinner there was more trouble than it was worth. Side note: 2 years ago we went to the one in kona for my husbands company Christmas party and it was pretty good. Don't know if it's just the Waikoloa branch that has the problems. read more

Just so bad. Went here tonight for dinner. Waited 45 minutes to get seated which was OK. Didn't mind the wait. Once seated we waited 15-20 minutes just to get acknowledged and receive water. I'm not sure if they are severely understaffed or just staffed with people who have zero experience in the restaurant industry. We were seated at a table facing the kitchen and we could see the cooks pumping out food at a good pace, but the plates would sit for a VERY long time under the heat lamps. Wait staff simply could not keep up. We noticed several servers really racing around and others just standing around. Why not hire food runners?? When our food finally arrived it was cold, but we simply didn't have the heart or the patience to send it back. The food was tasty... but cold. By the end of the meal, we were just really ready to go! We won't be back... but Gordon Ramsey should stop by and teach this place how it's done. They don't have a clue. read more

We had dinner here twice while on the Big Island. The first dinner was delicious and our server, Felicia was helpful and great. I had the Blackened Shrimp with Grits and my husband had the stuffed chicken breast. Great choices. And the Monkey Bread for dessert was perfect. The second dinner did not go as smoothly. There was an enormous party there at the same time we were and that took away focus on smaller groups. Menus were taken away without taking our order. Our first course was wrong and was not corrected. BUT, the manager came over and immediately offered to comp our entire dinner as an apology for the trouble. Our dinner really was delicious and we did tip our server well. We left feeling satisfied and very appreciative of the professional way the issue was handled. While staying on the Big Island, we found this restaurant in the King's Shopping Center, and our family of 7 loved it so much we ate here four times over the course of a week. Their menu has plenty of variety and everything we had was excellent. The desserts are amazing. The service was always friendly. Excellent food ! We ate there twice during our week there . Both my husband and I got the Cajun shrimp pasta and it was great . The gumbo was also delicious . I'm originally from Louisiana and it was every bit as good as at home ! I also got the chicken pesto pasta and my husband had ribs . Both were very good . Nice atmosphere especially on the back deck. Our server both nights was Kehau and she was very friendly and welcoming and gave great service . We will definitely come back the next trip ! read more

I would have given it zero stars if possible. I had a reservation for the patio, but the patio was full. So you would think they would allow us to sit at a decent table inside, but they refused. They put us on a table outside the kitchen door which was noisy and had constant traffic back and forth going into the kitchen. They kept saying the other tables were for people who had reserved a table. I kept telling them I reserved a table two weeks prior but they refused to allow us to sit in the dining area which had 3 open tables. To make matters worse, the Ribeye steak, which sounded so good on the menu, it was suppose to be rubbed with Kona coffee and garlic, was not rubbed, marinated or seasoned with anything except a little salt. It was about 1/8th inch thick, and was slightly grilled only on one side. It looked worse than what you would get at Denny's, which seemed pretty good last night. The manager was a condescending jerk who thought his smiling and saying yes your right to my complaint was all that was needed to appease me. We went out on a limb and ordered a dessert, but after 30 minutes, it never came. We left with the waitress (none of this was her fault), saying the dessert would be out in a few minutes, but we had waited 30 minutes already. I would never go back. As a local resident I am happy to have this dining option in our area. After dining several times at the kona location and the Waikoloa location it is obvious that the quality is not the same at each location. The quality at the Waikoloa depends solely on who is cooking and how busy they are. Also the service is not as good and it is strictly a staffing issue not a personnel issue. Having eaten at their Kailua-Kona location before, we pretty much knew what to expect, but boy were we wrong! The Gumbo, while tasted good, was very thin, the prosciutto somehow did not make it into the Stuffed Chicken, and someone certainly should explain the difference between the Po' Boy and a chicken sandwich to the Chef. The french fries was soggy, and so was the supposedly freshly baked Seafood Pastry. (It actually tasted like something that was frozen and reheated.) The service was attentive, but our waitress obviously was not trained. Even though we live nearby, I doubt we will be back. read more

We chose Foster's on a Friday night at about 6:30 after checking out their menu when we walked by while shopping. We didn't have a reservation but we were seated after a brief wait. The hostess and her helper (perhaps a trainee) were friendly and fun. Our waitress, Cheyenne, provided efficient service with a smile. My wife had the tomato bisque soup and I the catch of the day (mahi mahi) with fresh vegetables and house fries. Everything was excellent. We also ordered for dessert the lava cake, which is one of several items on the menu with the warning that preparation takes a little longer because it is baked. Cheyenne repeated the warning, saying that it would take about 20 minutes to prepare. We placed the dessert order when our food arrived. After our food had been consumed and the table cleared, the manager, Shabbir, came by the table to tell us that the lava cake was taking longer than it should and it would be a few more minutes. He said he was going to comp the cake, and when he noticed that I had finished my glass of wine, he comped a refill. When the lava cake arrived a few minutes later, it was great, with a nice presentation. Shabbir handled the situation perfectly. We will definitely be back, and we look forward to trying other items on the menu. The prices are reasonable by Big Island standards and there's a nice variety of choices. read more

On the day of our visit we had an online event to watch at 600pm and decided that the best time to reserve a table was 430pm, to make sure we were finished in time. When making an online reservation there were no times available within the 4 o'clock hour so I reserved for 2 at 400pm. I thought maybe the lack of spaces was due to a popular happy hour. When we arrived, we announced that we had a reservation and the host could care less, because the place was essentially empty. Why the reservation? Why not 430pm? At least act like we are important, by finding your reservation sheet and crossing off our name. We were seated at a table that was a little too close to one of the only other occupied tables. Soon after removing our masks, a server came by for our drink order of draft beer and diet cola. When the drinks came, the glasses were slammed on the table by a different server, who quickly ran off. I assumed she had left quickly to get coasters that were missing from our table. Not the case, slamming the drinks on the table and not distributing them to the correct diner was just the way they were operating on this day. We also ordered the beer cheese appetizer. It was very watery and we ran out of toast before we finished the cheese. Usually the opposite would be true if the cheese was thick. After we placed our food order and the food arrived, we were still not impressed. Although my wife thought her chicken club was acceptable, I was less happy with my fish po'boy. The description said toasted French bread. Since it was a po'boy, I was expecting it on a split hoagie-type roll. It was between two slices of toasted bread, sandwich-style. The description also bragged about the homemade tartar sauce on the sandwich. I did not find any on the po'boy and it was dry. Even though there were not many restaurants operating, we decided not to return to Foster's Kitchen during our 4 week stay. read more

We ate here twice on our recent vacation. Restaurant is fairly new with clean, simple decor and both indoor and outdoor seating. The drink and food menus are extensive. The food is made from scratch and tastes like it. Our first visit I had a salad with chicken and Thai dressing. Portion was huge (I had the smaller size) and veggies were crisp and fresh. My wife had fish and chips. Least greasy fried fish I've seen. Second time I had their specialty burger with a salad. It was outstanding. My wife had the chicken club and finished it without left overs. Ended with delish chocolate lava cake. I also tried 2 local beers: The Black Sand porter and the Cocoa Brown. They were excellent. Prices very reasonable for the area and service was outstanding. Not to miss if you are in the area. read more

Fosters Kitchen was amazing! As an appetizer we had the bruschetta. It was a little short on goat cheese but other than that, the different flavors complimented each other very nicely. My friend had a burger which she said was the best burger she's ever had. They were also very accommodating with her allergies. She said it was very rich in flavor. My dad had the fish burger, which was more like a fish sandwich, which he really enjoyed. The fries were a little soggy though. I had the pork chops, which were delicious. They were crusted in a very flavorful seasoning and was topped with gravy which I really enjoyed. The mash potatoes were delicious as well. Our last course was the lava cake. My dad and I enjoyed the lava cake, but it was topped with some kind of fruit sauce which did not compliment the lava cake very well. Other than that, I loved the cake along with the ice cream. Overall, service was very good and I would definitely come back to Foster's Kitchen. read more

My mother and I stopped to have lunch at Foster's Kitchen in early March. We were told they were already open by my cousin who was visiting from Montana. Although Fosters Kitchen was not "formally" open they were doing a soft opening. We chose to sit close to the kitchen door as mom was using her push walker and distance can be a problem. The restaurant was quite busy, with every table taken. Our waitress was Paulina and she made a few suggestions. We want to thank her personally as we took the suggestions and we LOVED our food. Loving our experience so much we took my sister to Fosters Kitchen the end of March. Not realizing we should make a reservation we were told it would be a 50 minute wait. We put our names on the list and went window shopping. We waited only 25 minutes and our table was ready. We had mom in her wheelchair so we sat down below. Even against the railing we all had a great view of the lagoon through the many windows. With Paulina as our waitress once again we asked for suggestions. We were impressed that she remembered exactly what we had on our first visit and gave us new recommendations. Bottom line, People are dynamic (Hoki stopped to say aloha to mom, and that made her night,), Food was wonderful and we will definately be taking more family and friends out to Fosters Kitchen at King's Shops. read more

I am very grateful that they were open during a busy spell on the island but for our first time there I was not impressed. Service was slammed, I understand. The experience is probably different when there not so busy. Bartender was busy but of a good demeanor when taking our order. It was busy so thing took a while longer than usual I'm sure. Rosarita Margaritas were interesting, a little sweet and not enough strong lime flavor, I did go for seconds but the second one was to heal the pain from going to 4 different restaurants to get seated. The gumbo was decent, it was later in the shift so I'm sure it had sat in the warmer most the day, chunky consistency, hearty and filling with toasted bread on the side, traditional flavor and salted correctly! The chicken wings were spicy and big and crunchy, some of the better wings I've had, the Ranch sauce was lacking in uniqueness and acidity. The calamari was, well, I'm not sure but not the kind of calamari preparation I was looking for. It needed a crunchy element and a sauce with acidity that will balance the buttery ness of the dish. The chicken salad, although will be filling, was cafeteria grade. Try adding tomato shallot, cilantro in the the mix and toss the salad in the kitchen with the dressing, instead of the dressing on the side and adding a pinch of salt, also add the chicken on top fresh off the grill hot and it will add appeal and flavor. It will not be my first choice when going out anytime soon but please try it because all restaurants need business right now and your experience will be different than mine I'm sure. We had late reservations 8:00. The place wasnt too busy. Got seated really quick. We had to wait almost 10 minutes before we got water. We asked the runner a question about the difference in pizza size (kids/regular) he replied rudely oh I'm not your server and was going to walk away. I stopped him and said oh I'm not ordering I wanted to know about the size of the pizza. He couldn't really give me any knowledgeable information that was going to help make a decision. Waited forever our server she was delightful and bubbly. She helped with the pizza sizes and decided to go with the bigger portion for our kids. We had the hush puppies as a starter. It was delicious. Only thing is our server didn't ask us which sauce we wanted on the side either honey butter or Cajun remoulade. Our kids had a plain pepperoni pizza and a hot chicken pizza. They loved it. I had the stuffed chicken. It was amazing! Perfectly cooked and well seasoned, the mash and veggies were also perfect, the only flaw there was barely any gravy even though on the menu it said it came with country gravy. My husband had the pork chops. He's very picky about his pork chops. He was delighted. He really enjoyed it and couldn't believe how well they were prepared. The food was really tasty and beautifully plated. We'll definitely be eating there again. I would have gave 5 stars if we hadn't had a runner and if we had gotten water sooner. read more

Went for Friday dinner to celebrate two birthdays. We had reservations. Really nice ambience. If you get there earlier, you can have a table overlooking the water or sit in the patio if you want to overlook the water. If you sit in the outdoor front area, there was live Hawaiian music from a nearby restaurant- very pleasant. We were seated in a very busy area and asked for another table that was promptly accommodated. Hubby had a well drink that had mule in it (not Moscow mule) and while it tasted yummy, seemed a wee bit weak. We started with large bowl of tomatoe bisque that is accompanied with two small melted grilled cheese bites. Very tasty with a touch of cumin? But oddly, was lukewarm. We shared the larger portion Thai chicken salad- again tasty but this would not be enough as an entree portion. Hubby had club chicken sandwich. Kiddo had the bbq chicken sandwich. I had the pork chops (huge portion with two huge chops!!). Hubby loved the gravy. All the entrees was yummy. Fries were great- reminded me of fries we had in Amsterdam and they are known for fries!! I added salt to my gravy and I am not a salt shaker user. The gravy was delish but slightly under seasoned. and like the soup, lukewarm. I was surprised our food was not coming out hot as there were food runners and the entrees came very quickly. We were comp'd a cheesecake for the birthdays - a very considerate and unexpected touch. The cheesecake is worth ordering- not too sweet , great crust. Service was attentive and friendly. The manager (?) Came by to say hello and even removed some empty plates.
